They were very nice. I didn’t go ahead with the project as the purchase of the house didn’t happen. We thought of buying a house, tearing it down and rebuilding it. The gentleman who came was very informative and it was going to cost me more than what I wanted to spend. I was very happy to pay the service fee because he was very informative. I spoke to one gentleman he was very knowledgeable and honest. I possibly would have gone to him if I would have gone ahead with the project. I spoke to the gentleman for 45 minutes and he was very helpful and nice. He knew about the area that I was planning to buy and what could go well with the board in that area. We talked about several things and I was quite satisfied with what I paid him and the service he gave me.

Thisis the 2nd big job have trusted Mosby with. In Feb.they called to see if I was having any problems with the previous job. No,was my reply ,but I had some other things that needed doing. I was kind of fearful about proceeding with the projects because i knew they would involve disrupting my routine. Rich came out and explained all the details related to the three projects and the costs involved. He broke everything down into manageable parts.and time frameworks. Rick, the project manager was helpful in guiding me to the tile subcontractor and helping to pick out the tile and grout. We had some sub-flooring issues that had to be worked out that involved extra costs, but thats why I chose Mosby. They will tell you the truth about the problems instead of covering them up and then having them cause problems with the installation down the road when the contractor is long gone. That has happened to me too many times. I have 2 sets of steps leading into my family room and Mosby had to tear out the concrete steps because I wanted the risers to be the same size. My family room is an old enclosed breezeway that origonally had a slanted concrete floor(Hence the need for heated floors. We got tired of being cold.) Mosby rebuilt the steps beautifully and the man who installed the tile was an ARTIST. The new floor makes my furniture look like an HGTV dream room. So easy to clean and move furniture around. We have a little old rescuded Maltise who can easily navigate the steps now even with her arthritic joints. My house is 71 years old and I have had to do alot of up-dating over the 25 years I have lived here. I have some cracked plaster walls due to settling and I will definitely call Mosby when I am ready to deal with THAT,although I trust that it will be done beautifully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: Plaster repair in my breakfast nook on the outside wall around the window and and on the ceiling. Also painted the wall and ceiling and rehung the blinds and curtain rod. Rerouted a cold air return in my family room and put in a heating duct. The best thing was installing replacing the carpeting with heated tile floors.

We have had Mosby complete numerous projects: window replacements, sump pump work, painting and the most recent floor and tile work. They are not inexpensive, but the quality is worth the price which is why we continue to have them back to complete additional projects. The work is well done; they are neat and responsive to every request.

The project began with a detailed estimate and project outline created by interaction between the Mosby representative and us. There was a fee for this service, payable whether we went ahead with the project or not. We accepted the estimate, and the final tasks were specified through a series of meetings between us and the Mosby team. At the end of this process a detailed set of work orders and drawings was created, and the project was begun. The Project Manager did an excellent job of ensuring timeliness and coordination between the group of Mosby workers and subcontractors. The various jobs were all completed on schedule and to our satisfaction. The Mosby staff was cooperative throughout, and the project was finished in a timely fashion within the original cost estimate. We have had a couple of minor issues arise that needed correcting, and these were fixed right away with no hassle. We are very pleased with the Mosby firm, and would use them again. Their cost structure is a bit high, but in this case you really do get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Remodeled our master bathroom to enhance accessibility. Installed new sink, countertop, wall and floor tile. Enlarged shower enclosure and made it a walk-in facility. Redid plumbing below the floor surface. They also replaced our conventional doors into the bedroom and bath with enlarged pocket doors. The bedroom and bath were repainted, and the bedroom hardwood floor was refinished. Other associated carpentry and plumbing tasks were done as well.

We were given an estimate that was twice as high as the three other bids. It was so high that it was not even negotiable. We did not ask for a formal proposal. I was not looking for an over-the-top finish. Granted that we were given a ballpark figure, it was much more than we expected. We wanted something functional. Ultimately we did sign a contract with another company that is highly rated on Angie's List. There was a scheduling problem with the Mosby rep being doubled booked. It did not materially change the final outcome.
Description of Work: We asked for a bid to finish the basement (bedroom, bathroom and an entertainment area w/ a wet bar).

The entire project, consisting of multiple repairs and upgrades, needed to be done within a five-day window and was planned well in advance. The consultant brought brochures and samples for flooring, cabinet, countertop, faucet, sink and toilet to my home and that made selections easier because I could see things in place. The Mosby professionals were excellent. Don Nanna was the project lead and was here every day, performing the carpentry work and overseeing the scheduling of all the other professionals - plumber, painter, flooring people, deliveries, haul-away. I was amazed with the orchestration of the work flow. As soon as the sewer stack was accessed, the plumber arrived to inspect it. The work went smoothly for the entire week. Every day they cleaned up the work area before leaving. They all worked well together as a team, helping each other with a goal to get the job done right and on time. I could not be happier with the results. Don is a perfectionist and made sure everything was correct before he asked me to approve the completion of the work. I wanted the work done once, and done right. And I wanted a firm that could coordinate all the purchases, and all the professionals and manage the project. They gave me honest advice as to what really was or was not needed, and suggested more cost-effective solutions for some things. This team represented the best in work ethic, cooperation, dedication to and pride in their work.
Description of Work: Bathroom floor removed, along with toilet, sink, cabinet; make access hole in wall; remove/replace sewer stack; repair subfloor that had been damaged through the years from leaks; provide/install new flooring, moldings, toilet, sink, faucets, cabinet; cabinet top; patch/paint wall. Other work included providing/installing/painting new exteror dooor and replacing moulding around large garage doors, replace kitchen sink faucet.

Repair bedroom ceiling.Address water problem in the bedroom.Paint and repair ceiling fan.
Description of Work: We had our ceiling replaced in our bedroom. Also, they were to look into what was going on in the attic. There solution was to replace a half roof. They did not adequetly address the water problem. Another contractor found that there was a cracked supporting beam and the chimney was not addressed. The bedroom ceiling was done correctly, however the color of paint I selected was not used. They decided that another color was better. Also, they said that they would repare and replace a non working ceiling fan.We had to call them back we did purchace a new fan. We asked them to design a remodeling of our only bathroom. The design was ametourish and they were going to charge us $60,000. /we had our bathroom worked on at a much reduced price and to our satisfaction. Their plan was to remove and replace. The plan we went with was to update and keep the beautiful design that the bathroom had.

The woman who called in response to my email inquiry was quick (before I had said two sentences) to tell me that Mosby was more expensive than most and that it would probably be more expensive for them to do any work than the insurance estimate we received to replace our roof and guttering. She told me that they do not deal with the insurance company which is fine with us - we already have all we need from the excellent claims adjuster and insurance company to complete our claim on our own. She also told me on the phone that because of their "superior expertise' they would charge us a fee of $325.00 as a "consulting fee" to give us an estimate. I was very disappointed in her superior attitude and this fee as I have listened to Scott Mosby's program on KMOX for years and have high regard for his wisdom and seemingly strong customer support. Since we have 2 other highly regarded companies scheduled to give us a free estimate, We decided not to proceed with this company at this time because of her lack of responsiveness and less than friendly attitude with me on the phone.I would strongly recommend that this "front person" be more attuned to her customers as she did nothing to try to get to know my needs before jumping into a discussion of how superior this company is and that I would need to pay for the privilege to speak to someone. A real turn-off!!

Dear Member, Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns with our services. We are continually looking for ways to improve our efforts to help home owners, and your feedback is valuable in doing so. Many times, insurance companies unfortunately put us in this position. Their motives are usually to spend the least amount of money possible on claims. Our motives are to provide comprehensive solutions that are in the best interests of the home owners. It’s sad these two motives oppose each other, and often the home owner is stuck in the middle of a difficult situation. Since insurance companies don’t necessarily want to pay for a comprehensive solution, Mosby typically doesn’t get the opportunity to actually help homeowners by working on their homes for insurance claims. This being said, our consulting service is one way to help home owners get sound advice in order to be informed about all of their options especially when dealing with insurance companies. As you noted, there are many qualified companies that handle insurance work. We’re happy to hear you were able to meet with them. We apologize for making you feel the way you did during your conversation with Mosby. Going forward, we will definitely work on improving how we communicate with home owners in these situations. Thank you again for your feedback. Sincerely, Mosby Building Arts

We gave them a call regarding our kitchen remodeling and other projects. It was a waste of our time as they wanted to charge $325 to come to our house and gave us "consultation" about our projects. We know exactly what we want so we do not need consultation. I wish instead of saying "ask for details", they just say no to free estimates so they do not waste other people's time.

Dear Member, Thank you for providing feedback on your experience with our company. We’re sorry you didn’t think we were a good fit for your project. We do offer a fee-based consulting service which is highly recommended when meeting with new clients who have multiple projects in mind. Through this service, our Home Consultants take a whole home approach which gives homeowners no-pressure advice on developing a plan to protect and improve their investment. If a client chooses to work with Mosby, the $325 fee would then be applied to any services over $3,000. This would be the case for most remodeling projects. Here’s a link to find more information regarding this consultation service. mosbybuildingarts.com/services/consultation.php Thanks again for your review. We appreciate the opportunity to learn how we can improve our services. Feel free to call us at 314-909-1800 if you have any other feedback or questions we can help you with. Around 02/28/12 I made an appointment for the Mosby consult to come out. He arrived on time. He listened to what I was wanting to do, took a look at the bathroom, went out and got all of his samples, he also was able to show me many of the bathrooms Mobsy had done. We went through the whole planning process. I picked out my colors, the fixtures I wanted everything and then he worked up the bid. There was no pressure to sign right away and the price he quoted would hold for a few weeks if I needed that before I made a decision. I had done some research before having Mosby out so I did decide to go with them. At this point we made a appt for the project manager, plumber and other to come and do a more detailed review of my bathroom (measurements etc.). They all arrived right on time. It took about an hour to complete. The project manager told me that my order should come be ready in about 6 weeks and then they could start the work. It started almost to the day. I do only have one bathroom and they did work with me on that. IWe stayed with my sister for about a week and then they were able to get us back in oue house until they finished. There really were no major issues. Like I said above really the only issue I had was not quite enough information on how things were going but again part of that was really my problem for not asking as often as I probably should have. But as far as work done and keeping the place as neat as possible, they did that. They covered my furniture and did have the dust kept to a minimum during the project and cleaned up after the project. The whole project took 11 business days to complete start to finish (Monday - Friday. No work is done on the weekends. I made my final payment the last day of the project which was 04/30/12.
Description of Work: I had a complete bathroom remodel. It was a complete tear out and rebuild. The bathroom is a walk through and I did have both doors replaced as well. No additional problems were found during construction. Also I did have all smoke alarms updated to electric during this process so $1,500 of this $25,000.00 was for that. This was my first remodel project so naturally it probably was a little more stressful for me than someone that has experience having this done. Having said that the only negative feedback I have regarding this whole project with Mosby is because they are so good at what they do (AND THEY ARE) I would have liked a little more information from them how they thought things were progressing and how close they thought they were to their projected completion date. But being a first timer part of that was me not asking the questions. But now I'm more experienced at this too so this won't happen again. But using Mosby for my first project was one of the BEST decisions I made. I could not be happier with my new bathroom. By the way one other item. The consulting fee up front that you pay when the Mosby consultant comes to give you a bid is well worth the money. They don't just look at your project and give you a bid off the cuff. They take you through all your selections for your project colors for the walls, type of fixtures, cabinets etc. The whole thing and then you get the bid so it is truly as accurate a bid as I believe you will receive. I had no problem paying for that and will be happy to do so again when it comes time for my next big project my kitchen. And there was no pressure at all to sign up for the project that day.

Mosby Building Arts is a joy to work with. They are expensive, but not overpriced: you definitely get what you pay for with this company. I have never seen such quality workmanship and attention to detail. James and Steve, who led up the project and did a lot of the work, were sticklers for detail. We have lived in this house for over 12 years and never noticed the height of the steps leading up to the landing on both staircases did not match the height of the steps leading up from the landing. James did, and raised the landings one inch (one inch!) to make sure everything was even. It wasn't in the job specs, they didn't have to do it, they didn't charge us any more to do it, but James' approach seems to be to do the level of workmanship he would want on his own house. There were other things, small things like that, that were not specified in the project but that bothered James and Steve enough to correct. For example, when they put new trim around door leading to the back porch, James felt it wasn't insulated quite well enough, and on his own added more insulation to stop the draft we had been feeling for several years. A remodeling of this extent required a lot of demolition in preparation, with all the dirt and dust that go along with that, but they covered everything, hung tarps and cleaned up at the end of the day every day, which made it all so much more bearable. We haven't always had that experience on other remodeling jobs, and it does make a huge difference. We got a call every week from Mosby asking us how things were going. They did not make the smallest decision without consulting us, even asking how thick the grout should be between the tiles on the kitchen backsplash: they took nothing for granted. Kelly Layton did a fantastic job of working out the design based on my input which mostly consisted of my dislike of what the previous owner had done, and we really enjoyed working with her and Rich. And when it was all done, they cleaned EVERYTHING! It felt like we got a new house. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. We will definitely be using them for any future projects.
Description of Work: Carpeting and ceramic tile replaced with hardwood in kitchen, livingroom, bedroom, and two staircases; replaced balusters and bannister; new closet doors and 6 panel doors, new baseboards and trim, new kitchen countertop, sink and tile backsplash, new fireplace surround, hearth and mantel, window seats built on either side of new new fireplace

They are a really great company, but they are expensive. High quality, but high price. You get what you pay for. I use them because this is a remote property for me and I've met the owner of the company and I completely trust them to be there alone with the key and all the belongings. This is why I choose to use them.
Description of Work: The replaced a window and fixed another one that was jammed open. They fixed a door on the TV cabinet. They changed all the locks and fix the mailslot.

From the start, the estimator provided a number of alternatives including keeping windows (a large bay window and two smaller windows on either side of the main bay window) versus replacing them. He was extremely thorough in what the job entailed and what they would do to ensure water would no longer work its way down the siding. This included replacing certain wood right under the roof line and sealing it and all of the wood on the exterior of the bay. At the time of the original estimation, it was not known that the bay window header was rotted. This was not discovered until the workers removed siding, etc.. At that time, the Project Manager provided a fixed cost estimate that I felt was too high. I requested alternative pricing and the original estimator called to say that the work may be done on a time & materials basis and could save on the cost if the work was not as complex as it appeared. As it turned out, this was the case and I saved quite a bit over the fixed cost estimate. I was VERY impressed by Mosby offering this option and even more impressed with the workmanship. The two that worked on the house were true pros even noting along the way some things they had noticed with the original bay work that they wanted to correct even though it was not necessarily part of the job. They certainly were knowledgeable and worked quickly and professionally also doing a great job of cleanup. They also pointed out other areas of the exterior siding that may cause issues in the future that they said would be easy for me to address! I was very appreciative of their advice. Given Mosby's reputation, I admittedly did not seek a 2nd or 3rd estimate. However, I believe what I received was peace of mind that the job was done correctly by a firm that stands behind its work and would be here in the future should issues arise. And they guarantee their work. I may have paid a bit more, but I am confident I received my money's worth.
Description of Work: Extensive repair to bay window including rotted wood, re-siding, adding of special water proofing and flashing. I had water damage from water working its way behind siding and hitting the bay window header and working its way into basement. Work included maintaining existing windows (which were relatively new), replacing exterior rotted wood all around the bay, re-flashing, re-siding, as well as a few other touch ups around the house, e.g., fascia at one side of house that had blown away in a storm, replacing the trim around our front porch and tightening up the front porch's ceiling trim. The work also included replacing the exterior wood, insulating sheet, flashing and siding of the area of the house to the right of the bay window (about four feet). The bay window required replacing its header which also meant removing the secondary header to my deck. Mosby had to remove some of the decking, remove nails from deck floor joists, remove deck header, replace bay header and put it all back together again. The finished job was completed in a timely fashion and the result looks fantastic.

They are very professional and have a good reputation in town. I would certainly recommend them, but their price was way out of range for us.

They were good, but I didn't want to use them for this particular thing. I am familiar with them because they are in my area. They are just pricey, that's all. I'm sure they would do a good job. I know people they've done work for but the estimate I got was a little on the high side so I didn't use them.

They made an appointment. The salesman came out and discussed about what we wanted done. He was suppose to come back and give us an estimate but he called about forty five minutes before he was supposed to arrive and said that he was injured and he was going to the emergency room. The next day when I called to find out if everything was okay and reschedule, the company knew nothing about it. They knew nothing about him cancelling or about my files. I was not impressed with how I was treated. I would not use them nor recommend them. They had a good reputation but I did not get that experience.
Description of Work: Mosby Building Arts came out and discussed about what we wanted done probably about six weeks ago. We wanted a quote for bathroom remodeling and windows replacement.

It was not expensive, but I was concerned about the quality. I chose them because they were on Angies List and I had received another quote, who said they could not do the work without a special order. I liked their knowledge and selection of the material. He was very thorough and professional. He responded to every question and was very polite with it. I will contact them in future.

They were very professional. They were very organized. They tell you exactly what they would charge you. They come to your house and see thoroughly what you want to do and give you a lot of information. They give you very thorough report and review on the estimate. We decided not to proceed with the work. We thought they were kind of expensive. They were very responsive. I would consider using them in the future.
