They are a little expensive. They have been very thorough. They clean up every night. They have hardboard and plywood down on the floor with runners and other things too. They are here at 7.00 A.M. every morning.

From first phone call to arrange a consultation, the experience I had with Mosby Building Arts was first class. The consultant gave very good advice so I could decide what work I wanted to do now and what I felt could hold for a later date. The project was for my older home and consisted of repairs as opposed to remodeling. The contract was prepared efficiently and the work was scheduled. The people who performed the work were on time, talented and very professional. They demonstrated excellent skills and efficiency, a solid work ethic, and pride in a job well done. I changed the work by adding more to the project and they efficiently shifted their work flow plan to accommodate my request for the added work and accomplished the job within the original time frame. They were also very neat and left my home well cleaned and without one mark on any of the walls. I look forward to having them do more projects for me in the future.
Description of Work: Plumbing advice and repairs as well as shower door and frame replacement, tile repair/caulk/regrout, replace bathroom mirror, misc. other work.

First they discussed the plans and showed us where they were going to put everything. They told me how they were going to do it and we were all in an agreement. The supervisor managed the entire job. They gave me a schedule of when things were going to be done and if we didn t have any problems we will stick with the schedule. They were able to solve any little problems that came up without any delays. They were pretty good. When the painters came the supervisor would come over and check. If he didn t like it he would have them redo it and he supervised everyone. A lady who was higher than the supervisor would come over every other week and do some checks. They were a little more expensive than some other places. I was really happy with the work and the quality checks. They were here seven o clock every morning. They were very punctual.
Description of Work: They put a laundry area in my living room. They did some plumbing and redone structuring of the pipes. They also did some repairs for the dryer and I had them remodel my bathroom. I had them remove a shelf under the lights and everything painted. I had three rooms painted, the rugs replaced and they also laminated the floors for both my living rooms and my family room.

The work went well. The only delay was due to the cabinet manufacturer delaying shipping the cabinets because they were located in the area that flooded this summer and had to close for awhile. No delay was due to Mosby. I had an idea what I wanted completed because this was the original kitchen, 30 years old. Mosby design team, Julie and Rich, gave me some good ideas and suggestions for the remodel. Mark helped with the cabinets. I picked out all the items I wanted and Mosby ordered them and delivered to the house. The only 2 items I actually brought back were the microwave and faucet, as I had a personal coupon to use for the purchase. Once the project began, I mostly dealt with James, the project manager, and he answered a lot of questions I had. Also, Steve, the lead carpenter, was at the house almost every day of the project. He was great to work with and was ALWAYS punctual and polite.
Description of Work: Mosby did a complete kitchen remodel. They gutted kitchen down to the wall studs. They installed a new floor, cabinets, granite counter, backsplash, undermount sink, faucet, garbage disposal, casement window and 3 new appliances(refrigerator, stove, dishwasher). The wall opening between the kitchen and family room was enlarged and a granite counter was installed in place of the old formica counter. They also upgraded the electric panel in the basement. I'm not sure about the rating above on the price(excellent or good)as I've never had any type of remodeling project done. I priced 3 other local kitchen remodelers and their prices were lower, but they all left off some pricing; such as they didn't know if the electric panel would need to be replaced or plumbing line replaced until they looked at it. Also, at the time I went to the 3 other places, I didn't know some boards would have to be replaced in the walls. These 3 places sub-contracted out a lot of work and I heard from others that this would delay a project. So, to be fair to Mosby, maybe the overall rating on total price should be excellent?

I heard about them on the radio. They were so professional. In their contract you have a year to report any problem, but there wasn't any. They called me before the year was up to check up and make sure everything was OK. I feel like they saved my life. I would hire them again.
Description of Work: A representative from the company came to check out my chimney. He was alarmed at what he discovered. He stated that he would not leave our house that day unless we were safe. He found that our chimney was almost totally clogged with crumbled bricks from the last 100 years. No one else had ever looked up our chimney. They installed a new liner and tuck pointed the chimney.

I was immediately put off by the fact that they wanted $325 just to come and talk about the work. (However, if you use their services this will get credited back for this amount.) Since I don't know if they are going to give me the best bid and/or design, I'm not going to gamble $325 on them. You have lost the potential for doing business with me. Based on this, my experience also tells me that their prices would be higher than others.

We hired Mosby to do a master bed/bath remodel in 2005. That experience was overall good. When we began getting bids on kitchen remodel, they came in $20,000 higher than our next closest bid. Because we had a good experience with them, we decided to spend the extra $$ for peace of mind. BIG MISTAKE!! From the beginning, a kitchen designer never met with us...our salesperson was the liaison. Demolition dust and debris all over our basement due to lack of protection of our home. Workers cursing and blaring radios in our home while working. Messes left at end of work days and weekends!! A cabinet line that Mosby recommends ended up being nothing but one problem after another with ill fitting doors and installation problems that after 5 months are still unresolved. The worst is the flooring, the tiles are not level, the joint lines are uneven, there are 2 places where tiles are actually cracked. I tried being patient, then went to just being tolerant to the final straw today that has caused me to make this report at this particular time. I spoke with the owner, Scott Mosby today. Part of the remodel included a floor heating system. I have asked for directions/owners manual for the floor heat no less than 10 times. Each time I am assured I will get it right away.,...I still do not have it so, I called Mr. Mosby, He listened but had an aire about his tone that made me feel as if I was bothering him. I explained my need for the instructions and explained that the last visit from his "Foreman" was 10/6/2008. At that time I was again promised many things none of which has been delivered on. At that visit, the foreman agreed that the floor install was unacceptable and that they would actually tear it out and start over. He asked if I would like to wait until after the holidays which I agreed would be my preference. However, I informed Mr. Mosby today that with all the broken promises and poor workmanship thus far I am afraid to let Mosby even try and right this wrong. Again, he seemed less than interested and never even made an effort to apologize or reassure me. He did call me back with in 20 minutes of our first conversation to tell me that the owners manual had been ordered (5th promise of this) a week and a half ago and should be here in another week !!!! What???? This job was estimated to take 35 days by Mosby in our contract. Even if those are working days we are miles past their estimate and for him to be so "blas " in his response is like I said at the beginning of this email, my final straw. Remember, you do not always get what you pay for!!

We chose to work with Mosby because we had heard that although they are pricey, they are the way to go if you have the money. They did do competent work, but I was a bit disappointed to find that they were still affected by the kinds of issues I've experienced with other contractors - workers not showing up on time or at all on certain days because of other jobs, work taking longer than expected, etc. The work seemed to go well, but perhaps my expectations of communication and time management were too high based on other reviews I had read.
Description of Work: We had an empty space behind our bathroom insulated, and insulation work performed in our attic. We also had an exterior door replaced, and had some weatherstripping work done on two other exterior doors.

I called for a quote to do repairs in preparation for the sale of my house. I was told there would be a $325 charge for an estimate and furthermore the charge would not apply to cost of the work if I were to select them. I guess it was a polite way of saying "we don't want your business". Needless to say, I declined. It seemed odd in that I had them over a couple years ago to bid on a remodeling job and there was no charge for that.

I called Mosby to inquire about getting an estimate and was told it's a $325 fee up front for an "in-depth consultation." That's about third of my budget for the project -- just to get someone out here to talk to for 20 minutes. Very disappointed. Called elsewhere.
Description of Work: I wanted to get an estimate on getting my garage insulated, specifically the underside of the roof, to get me additional storage options and a warmer garage for the winter months. Also interested in the different insulation materials and what would be best for my situation. I called this company because Scott Mosby is on KMOX AM 1120 with his weekend home improvement show and they sound very knowledgeable.

TO BETTER SERVE DURING THE MEMBER’S INITIAL PHONE CONVERSATION, OUR STAFF REQUESTED INFORMATION WHICH REMAINED UNANSWERED. MUCH AS A PHYSICIAN WOULD NOT PRESCRIBE TREATMENT WITHOUT SEEING THE PATIENT, WE HAVE TO SEE A BUILDING TO DISCUSS OPTIONS AND OFFER KNOWLEDGE-GUIDED SOLUTIONS. SIDING REPLACEMENT MAY BE INAPPROPRIATE AND EVEN DANGEROUS IF THE STRUCTURE IS ACCUMULATING WALL CAVITY MOISTURE, HARBORING ROT OR MOLD, AND PERHAPS EVEN CAUSING HEALTH ISSUES FOR OCCUPANTS. WE SPEND SUBSTANTIAL TIME AND RESOURCES TO ACCURATELY IDENTIFY REAL PROBLEMS AND GET TO THE ROOT CAUSE OF PROBLEMS AND PROVIDE ENDURING VALUE. MOSBY BUILDING ARTS PROVIDES A CONSULTING VISIT AND HOME EVALUATION SERVICE FOR $325. THIS VISUAL ASSESSMENT IS A 1 - 2 HOUR REVIEW OF THE HOUSE, FOUNDATION, MAJOR SYSTEMS, STRUCTURE, ROOF, RAIN-WATER DRAINAGE, BUILDING SHELL EVALUATION, WITH A MOISTURE AND ROT REVIEW TO VERBALLY REPORT AND DISCUSS THE TRUE CONDITION OF THE BUILDING ENVELOPE. THIS ASSESSMENT IS AN ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT TO ACCURATELY IDENTIFY AND RECOMMEND A CORRECT SOLUTION IN THIS SIDING REQUEST. WE RECOMMENDED THE HOME EVALUATION TO HELP THE MEMBER MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE. WE CLEARLY IDENTIFY, UP FRONT, THAT THE EVALUATION SERVICE IS NOT AN ESTIMATE. THIS WAS A DECLINED OFFER OF AN EVALUATION, ONLY. WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO ASSIST THE MEMBER IN HER SIDING PROJECT AND PROVIDE THE BEST SERVICE AND PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE SHE WILL EVER EXPERIENCE.

They provided plans with detailed listing of work and cost breakdown. They worked with us through several iterations of the plan. They met with us at several business/stores to help pick out cabinet type, hardware, fireplace cover, lighting, etc. Throughout, they maintained a neat work area using dust enclosures etc. Along the way, they uncovered and fixed a structural problem in our living room ceiling. They ran into a couple of problems along the way. There was difficulty getting a sub to successfully polyurethane the wood flooring, but they redid it until they got it right and paid for our motel nights while this was being done. Our sliding glass door encountered some slight grit blast damage from cleanup work on the exterior, and they had a new glass ordered and installed at no added cost to us. They were easy to work with, and they listened to any concerns we had along the way and always did whatever necessary to provide a quality result.
Description of Work: They did an extensive interior remodeling of our house. They removed some walls, relocated the refrigerator, added a window, put down a wood floor, added a dry bar with wine rack & cabinetry, overhead lighting, laundry closet, fireplace mantle, & facing.

Scott W., who worked on design plans was very knowledgeable and was flexible when needed with our hectic work schedules. I can't say enough about Ryan, who worked on site and oversaw the subcontract work. He arrived promptly, checked with us to address any issues as well as update us on status of the project daily, made sure all areas were cleaned up at the end of each day, and worked with great care as if this was his own house. His customer service and construction skills were excellent. The quality of work was very good, the project was finished early, and the result was better than we expected. The price was probably on the higher end though.

MOST OF THE SALES CALLS THAT ARE MADE THROUGH MOSBY ARE FREE OF CHARGE. DUE TO THE VOLUME OF CALLS WE MAKE, A POTENTIAL CLIENT IS GIVEN A "VERBAL" ESTIMATE AND INSTRUCTED TO CALL IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO GO FORWARD WITH THE WORK. IF WE GAVE "WRITTEN" QUOTES TO ALL OF THE PEOPLE WE MAKE CALLS FOR, OUR SALES PEOPLE WOULD DO NOTHING BUT CREATE PAPERWORK, THAT IS THEN OFTEN USED TO "BID SHOP" THE WORK. THERE ARE ALSO TIMES WHEN WE CHOOSE NOT TO PURSUE A PARTICULAR CLIENT BECAUSE WE FEEL THIS CLIENT WOULD NOT FIT OUR COMPANY.
