This is the second job Galati has done for me. They were very patient with me as I went back and forth deciding between repairing and replacing the wall. He was very helpful in helping me to decide what to do since the wall was in such bad shape and at the same time it's a prominent feature of the house. Once I gave them the go ahead to do the repair they were out within a week to do the work. They showed up on time and began working right away. The crew was very professional, talented and considerate. I watched them make a brick by brick decision on what and how to repair each section properly. The job took them nearly all day and when they were done I was very happy with the results. They cleaned up and put everything back as they had found it. While the wall is old and was badly neglected over time, it's now stable and the repairs have given it some character. I have already recommended Dan Galati to a friend and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

The service was okay. I was satisfied with the results, but there was a lot of debris that was neglected; which required me to press them to get it cleaned and removed from the area. That being my only caveat, their craftsmanship was well appreciated and I'm happy with the work.

Dear Member, We thank you for your feedback. We do apologize you had to find the clean up issue as jobs of this size create a large amount of dust and debris. However, we are glad we were able to rectify the situation. Most importantly we are glad you are happy with the quality work we completed.

Everything went fine. I had to go with a different company to get more tuck-pointing done for a better price. They were a little more expensive than I what I anticipated. However the work they did perform was fine and they were communicative to me.

The work turned out great, I was very happy with the guys who did it. Due to the sales man however, I would never use the company again. He came in and gave me an estimate for the cost, and told me that if it were to take less time that we could discuss the price. When the bill arrived, it was on the high end of his estimate so I asked him about adjusting it because of the shorter time it took. He told me that the price was the price and was not interested in negotiating the discussed adjustment. I had him come back to my home for another project - despite my first experience with him - for tuckpointing. When I began discussing the estimate for this job and the pricing, he became flustered and stomped away like a child.

We had had a lot of trouble with the mortar falling out on our chimney over the last few years and spot tuckpointing was not holding up at all. I had a couple bids but none were as complete as Galati and Sons. Plus their reputation was good. Their crew was prompt, they took precautions to cover the air-conditioner and the bushes. Their scaffling was carefully placed for their protection and secured. They removed the crown, I knew it was cracked. Then removed the chimney bricks and stacked them on the scaffling boards. The interior of the chimney by the stacking was also in bad shape and crumbling so it was removed and cleaned up. The stack itself was alright so they replaced the interior stack support. This took the whole first day and they wrapped the chimney that evening to protect in interior of the stack area. Next day they were early starting and had brought 50 bricks form city structures as a lot of ours were soft and showing signs of cracks. After cleaning the area they began laying the new bricks and matched the mortar so perfect you didn't see where the new started. The bricks were completed and the rim was built up to hold the crown on top. A temporary cover was placed so the mortar could set overnight and the next morning they were out to finish and place the crown. After a few days of the chimney setting Mr. Galati, himself, was out to check the chimney and applied the Siloxane PD waterproofing. We went over the paperwork and completed the transaction. I couldn't have asked for a better job.
Description of Work: Took the chimney bricks back to the stack, down to the flashing on the roof side and a foot down past the roof on the outer side of the house. Rebuilt the chimney with correct flashing at the roof line.

They were responsive, they were fairly quick, they brought in a large crew and copleted the job in a short period of time. I was a little concerned towards the end, that the paint sealant that they were putting on the basement was perhaps not enough, and we needed another coat. So they came back and repainted it without any extra charge.
Description of Work: I used Galati & Sons Tuckpointing. They tuck pointed a foundation in the interior of our house, and they stuck some kind of stucco material on it, and they then sealed it with some kind of paint. They also tuck pointed the exterior.

After receiving several estimates, they were the only one to pass the test of what really had to be done. Other masons provided quick fixes which would not have solved the problem since the bricks were pulling away from the very bottom of the house. I received their estimate in May and they held true to it despite the fact that I didn't have the work done until Aug. The only glitch was that they did not call me before starting the work and did the rebricking on the side of the house to the corner instead of the front to the corner. No problem, one pleasant phone call and I met them 2 days later to show them what work was to be done. The correct wall was completed without hesitation or argument. Job well done! They did it in one day and cleaned up perfectly.

Not more than 6 months later, in March 2012, a metal bar feature attached to the building fell off and to the ground. Also certain window sills were not tuckpointed. I called Galati, and in response, Galati became accusatory, blamed me and denied it was due to poor workmanship. Galati came out and tuckpointed the missed window sills, but refused to re-attach the feature as part of warranted work claiming the wind knocked the pole down. He rather wanted to charge me $750 to reattach and have me turn it into the insurance company as wind damage. I disputed the wind theory (no other wind damage; no report of a wind storm; it's a metal pole), to no avail. I obtained several second opinions from other tuckpointers. Galati's excuses were contracted by every one of them who visited my building and viewed his work. They, in sum, were surprised at Galati's poor work (surprised because they heard Galati had a good reputation); Galati's charged much too much for the job as a whole; the metal feature should not have fallen off the building and wind cannot be blamed; Galati should have re-attached the feature (re-attachment was easy to do) as part of the warranted work. And so one company just re-attached the feature at no charge. This May 2013, a contractor at the building knowledgeable in tuckpointing advised me to call Galati to point out popped mortar joints over some doorways, etc. Contractor said it should be a simple repair and Galati should easily have the right match mortar. Galati came out 5-13-13 and again blamed things other than his own workmanship. Galati said it was not covered by the warranty and cost of repair would be $575. I spent $22,000 on spot tuckpointing that missed spots and I have no warranty on warranted work. The workmanship was so poor that it couldn't last 6 months without tuckpointing issues arising. Just as troubling as the unwarranted shoddy workmanship was Galiti's lack of personal responsibility and choice to blame the customer rather than make it right. NO, I would never hire this company again. If you hire them, know upfront the work is not warranted no matter what they say.
Description of Work: Mid August 2011. Per Galati's inspection and recommendation, Galati's scope of work was spot tuckpointing my building, waterproofing and chimney repair. Cost $22,000. 10 year warranty. Issue #1 arose in March 2012. Issue #2 just happened this May 2013.

Exceptional job. Due to extensive damage, the chimney had to be completely taken down and rebuilt which they were able to do in about 2.5 days. Because the job was weather-permitting, they were only able to notify me the day prior to starting the job which was fine with me. They explained everything very well and even did some internal work at no cost.

We met with Dan and reviewed the scope of our job. We needed tuckpointing done on our all brick home and surrounding brick wall. His estimate however, was higher than other's received and therefore, we decided to chose another company for the tuckpointing work.

Galati and Sons did a wonderful job tuckpointing/repairing the front porch of our house. The masonry on our front porch was in very bad shape. The masonry was cracked and water damage was causing the stones on the facing to crack, splinter and come off. I got bids from four companies. Galati and Sons was the highest bid, but it was also the only bid that fully addressed the problem of the damage including an estimate of how many facing stones would need to be replaced. The other bids simply said that replacement stones or additional work would be an additional cost. Galati and Sons was more than worth the cost. It looks like we have a brand new front porch. They were on site for two days and cleaned up after themselves perfectly each day. Very professional and very good work. I recommend these guys without no reservations.
Description of Work: Tuckpointing and repair of the masonry on our front porch. Porch is clad with stone on the facing with the porch surface a collection of concrete slabs of various sizes. All of the existing masonry had to be ground out of the joints and tuckpointed as well as over a dozen facing stones replaced.
