The person who came out and did the estimate was great. Very knowledgeable, personable and willing to answer questions. I am knowledgeable enough about electrical to ask the right questions and it seemed like I would be getting a very professional installation. A few days later, one of their techs came out to do the work. I was not home, but my wife said he was very nice, and took care of the work in a timely manner. I came home to a new electrical panel that was not professionally installed. Technically, it was to code, but visually, it was sloppy. I called the estimator back and asked that he stop by sometime and review his companies work, considering we specifically talked about a neat and professional installation. He obliged, and a few days later came out to the house. He was also not impressed and made a call to the office to schedule a specific person to come out and make adjustments to the installation. This second tech came out and did a great job of cleaning up the first guys work. Satisfied, I called the estimator back and let him know I was happy, which he appreciated. End of the story, this company has skilled techs that will do a great job. They also have techs that are not so careful, but still get the job done to code. I happen to be really picky about peoples work, and for my money, expect a quality professional job. It seems like it could be hit or miss from this company to find people that take pride in their work.
Description of Work: I had a new 200A panel installed on our 1970s house to replace an original 1970's 100A service.

Excellent. Arrived on time, was professional and knew his stuff. A lot of this was pretty easy, but it did require a lot of work around as this remodel was not a gut to the studs job. Instead wire had to be fished through the walls at a couple of spots. In addition, bringing the new power in from the main panel across the whole (finished basement) was not an easy task.
Description of Work: I was completing a simple kitchen remodel. I had them add 3 outlets, convert the existing outlets to GFI, move a canned light in the ceiling, and wire the garbage disposal and dishwasher to a plug verses hard wire them. This required adding 2 new breakers and running 2 new lines from the opposite corner of the house.

The job went very well from bidding to completion. Matt, one of the owners, was the person who did the bid. While going over the list of things I wanted done he made suggestions if he thought there was a better or less expensive way to accomplish the outcome I wanted. For instance, instead of moving a wall switch about 15' to another wall so I could a light when coming in the front door, he suggested replacing the current switch with a motion detector switch that would turn on the light when I came in the door. The switch can be changed to a normal, manual switch when I'm at home so it doesn't keep going on and off. This resolved the problem I had and certainly saved me a lot of money. He made me aware of several places where the drywall would probably have to have a channel cut into it. That gave me the opportunity to decide if that was acceptable. The crew who did the work, Bob, Kenney and Dave, were great to work with and went out of their way to not put any channels in the drywall. The only new holes in my walls or ceilings are where new outlets, switches or ceiling lights were installed. Unbelievable in a 55 year old house. The entire job was completed in a professional manner. All that's left is for Ameren to move the electric line from the pole to my house and for the final inspection. I was a little disappointed in not always being informed when the crew was needed to take care of emergency calls and wouldn't be showing up that day or if they were just going to be delayed. Overall, they did a very good job and were great to deal with. I got Fielder's name from Angieslist and would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: Fielder added new outlets for my kitchen remodel as well as adding outlets to accommodate the added demands for electricity today vs. 55 years ago. They added ceiling wiring for 8 new fixtures and corrected some previous wiring errors. Fielder also installed a new electric panel, upgrading to 200 amp service. And very importantly they relocated the main power coming into the house from a location only about 7' above the ground to a mast above the roof. There were also some miscellaneous additional items I added as the job progressed. The house should now be up to current code standards.

Although Fielder Electric professionally wired our kitchen and appliances, the company failed to professionally install under-cabinet lighting and under-cabinet power strips. The company destroyed new dry wall when installing the power strips, bent and scratched the power strips when installing, and mounted the under-cabinet lights so close to the strips that we burned our hands when plugging appliances in. Needless to say, the entire job had to be repeated and the company delayed our project two weeks to fix their mistakes.

As an architect, I have seen the full spectrum of residential subcontractors. Fielder Electrical Services rises to the very top of the "best of the best" list. They were professional in every way. They did not take any shortcuts in their work and went out of their way to make sure we were pleased. They get an A+!
Description of Work: Existing home had overhead electrical service with 200 amp service. Overhead service extended above an elevated deck. Service line was within 8' of the deck surface. Obtained a proposal to change out overhead service to underground in addition to increasing service from 200 amp to 400 amp. Work included changing out the existing panels, moving all the existing circuits to the new panels, and installing a 50 amp breaker for a spa and a 50 amp breaker for an electric kiln. Also installed two additional pieces of conduit in trench to handle cable/high speed Internet service and telephone.

Rep arrived on time, was friendly, answered all questions. Examined electrical panel and task including dryer location. Estimate provided 2 days later for replacing electrical panel and option for just adding breakers to existing panel and running wiring for dryer. Pricing appeared to be fairly comparable to other phone estimates I'd received. Decided to install breakers and run wiring myself for the dryer. Will re-evaluate panel replacement when I am ready to get basement finished.
Description of Work: Purchased new home and sought estimate to replace original (36 yr old) electrical panel in basement to provide additional capacity for an electric clothes dryer and future basement finish. Had additional safety concern about Zinsco panel.

Matt Fielder came out to do the evaluation of the job and write up the contract. The contract was promptly written, and they were able to email a copy of the contract to me so that I could receive it sooner. The work was done according to the contract, correctly, and for the price that was quoted.
Description of Work: Moved electric and telephone lines underground from utility pole in easement to house. This includes digging the trench, laying the conduit, and pulling the fishing line so the wires could be moved. They also removed the old circuit breaker box, and installed new circuit boxes to bring the house up to 400 amps. They brought a electric outlet on the patio up to code by installing the correct conduit and box. They replaced some aluminum wire that was on a light switch.

Terrible! They won't send the electrician out until they know you are home, even when the appointment has been confirmed. I was outside my house watching my children play and waiting for the electrician to arrive. Meanwhile, Erin was leaving messages on my home and cell phone requesting that I call them back, or else she was going to cancel the service call. I had just confirmed the appointment that morning. Very aggravating! Plus, she was rude when I called back to complain. She called me high maintenance, hung up on me twice, and told the electrician (over her radio while I was listening) not to come to my house. I'm writing to the owner and filing a complaint with the BBB. Stay away from Fielder!

STAY AWAY FROM FIELDER ELECTRIC IN STL. Fielder Electric replaced two dimmer switches on some halogen track lighting. Every time I switched on the light it sounded like an electric chair being turned on. I called to complain and they indicated those were the switches recommended by the manufacturer. They said an additional service call to remedy the problem would result in additional charges. I had already paid $400 to have two dimmer switches replaced! I attempted to return the dimmer switches to Fielder for a $190 credit (the amount they charged for two dimmer switches!) They said they had no use for them. I ended up purchasing two switches at Home Depot and replacing myself in about 10 minutes. My experience was awful. I would not recommend FIELDER ELECTRICAL to anyone.

Initially, was happy with the work done. But repeatedly had problems with 2 circuit breakers tripping which were connected to outlets in basement installed by them. Contacted company and they came to home but had no explanation for why the circuit breakers were tripping. They replaced the circuit breakers and then sent bill for $105 dollars to us. We felt the work should have been under warranty. They indicated on invoice that "no issue was found", so therefore we were responsible for the service call. Since the replacement, we have not had any further problems with the circuit breakers tripping. They tried to blame on one yr. old treadmill, which is not tripping existing circuit breaker. We feel we should not be charged since this was a reoccurring problem from work done by them. We have received 3 invoices with threats to place liens on home if not paid. We are very unhappy with the attitude and treatment we received from this company and would not recommend them to anyone.

WE WHERE VERY IMPRESSED WHEN OWNER MATT CAME OUT TO GIVE US A QUOTE. HE MADE SOME VERY GOOD SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO ACCOMPLISH THE WORK WE NEEDED. HE OBVIOUSLY HAS A GREAT DEAL OF PRIDE IN HIS COMPANY. HE WORKED WITH ME TO GET WORK SCHEDULED DUE TO A TIGHT WINDOW BECAUSE OF OTHER WORK BEING DONE IN THE HOUSE. THE ELECTRICIAN DID A GREAT JOB. HE IS VERY FRIENDLY, WORKED VERY WELL, AND VERY EFFICIENTLY. EVEN WAS READY TO COME OUT THE NEXT DAY JUST TO DELIVER A $0.89 LIGHT SWITCH COVER BECAUSE THE ONE HE HAD WASN'T THE RIGHT COLOR.

THEIR INITIAL VISIT AND QUOTE WAS HELPFUL. THEY COORDINATED WITH AN A/C COMPANY FOR THE INSTALLATION OF SERVICE. HOWEVER, THEY COMMUNICATED POORLY AND WHEN I CONTACTED THEM THREE TIMES TO ASK WHY I HAD NO ELECTRICITY IN PART OF THE HOUSE, THEY DIDN'T ANSWER, REQUIRING ME TO CALL AGAIN AND AGAIN, WITH NO RESULT. ONE DAY I FOUND A BUSINESSCARD FROM THEM IN MY MAILBOX AFTER WORK, BUT THEY HADN'T CALLED AHEAD AND NEVER RETURNED MY PHONE CALLS. I WONDER IF IT WAS THAT I WAS A WOMAN OR IF THEY ARE JUST POOR ON RESPONDING AND GIVING SERVICE.

THE SERVICE PERSON WAS EXTREMELY RUDE. WHEN ASKED, ''DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS?'' THE RESPONSE WAS, ''I AM NOT GOING TO TELL YOU, BECAUSE IF I TELL YOU WHAT IT IS, YOU'LL FIX IT YOURSELF AND THAT IS FOOD OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF MY CHILDREN.'' AND THIS IS JUST ONE OF MANY EXAMPLES OF RUDENESS. WHEN THE QUOTE WAS RECEIVED, IT WAS A PROBLEM, TOO. THE WORK REQUIRES A TRENCH BE DUG TO OUR DETACHED GARAGE TO LAY WIRE. HE OVERESTIMATED (AND THEREFORE QUOTED A PRICE TOO HIGH) BY 50%!!!! 120 FEET INSTEAD OF THE 80 FEET THAT IT REALLY IS AND FOR THE OTHER 2 ITEMS, THE QUOTE WAS SIMPLY $70 PER HOUR TO TROUBLE-SHOOT AND FIX. WELL, WHAT WAS THE POINT OF COMING OUT FOR THE FIRST APPOINTMENT IF THERE IS NO REAL ESTIMATE. WHEN WE CALLED TO GET CLARIFICATION ON THE ESTIMATE AND TO SEE IF THE PRICE WOULD GO DOWN IF AN ACCURATE MEASUREMENT OF THE DISTANCE WAS USED, IT TOOK THEM TWO WEEKS TO CALL US BACK. WHEN YOUR 12-YEAR-OLD SON SAYS THAT THESE PEOPLE DON'T TREAT YOU LIKE A CUSTOMER.
Description of Work: NEED WORK DONE ON 3 ITEMS: 1) NEW ELECTRIC TO DETACHED GARAGE 2) FIX AN OUTDOOR PORCH LIGHT 3) LIGHT OVER SINK IS BLOWING CIRCUIT WHEN YOU TURN ON. ESTIMATOR DID COME OUT TO LOOK AT ITEMS BUT DIDN'T FIX ANY AT THAT TIME.
