They were pretty well equal to the other bids I got and they did have good ideas but again it was my personal idea what I wanted done. There was nothing wrong with what they did but I just felt that the other provider gave me a little bit more. If I had another big job to do I would contact them again. It was more of my personal preferences and what I was getting for my dollar that mattered to me.

We were dreading the project because we knew it would take weeks and we were not looking forward to having workmen in our back yard for that length of time. We were also wary because we had fired another contractor for being dishonest with us. That said, we were pleasantly surprised by Basile's crew's professionalism and competence. Mike Basile came by every few days and was always available to address our concerns. The workers were always pleasant to us and to each other; there was no bickering or goofing off. They arrived promptly on time every morning and cleaned up meticulously at the end of each day. Two bumps in the road: the day that the water feature boulder slipped out of place; they remedied that promptly. The other was our dissatisfaction with the appearance of the landing and steps leading from the great room to the patio; they completely re-did it to our satisfaction. Neither of these issues added to the length of the project or added to the cost. Our project also required an electrician, irrigation specialist, and ironworker; Mike arranged for all of these subcontractors and they worked smoothly with the main crew. Although we had two lower bids for this project, we chose Basile because of the impression he made when he came for the estimate. We were not disappointed. This spring, we are enjoying our beautiful new patio and lawn. We have hired this company to do our lawn care and will certainly use them again for future projects.

i called Basile b/c i saw they had pretty good ratings (save one) on angie's list. i made an appointment for one day and eric called to reschedule b/c he was tied up on another job. no problem. eric showed up at the reschuduled time and was very pleasant and seemed very knowledgeable. he said he would email me a bid withitn about a week. a few weeks passed - no bid. i called his cell phone and left a message - no response. i called the main 636 number and they said the would have someone call me back - no response. i called eric's cell a few days later - he answered and apologized for not getting to me - he was a little behind. he said he was in the offfice all day and would be getting my bid to me that day. i never received a bid. i called his cell phone again today (5-19-11) - still no answer. and i called the main 636 number - no answer. i left a message on his cell phone. who knows if he will respond. subsequent to my post the owner contacted me to apologize and make amends. i appreciate the quick response and have decided to give this company a chance with my lawn. so b/c of their response to my post and that they appear to want to make sure i am a satisfied customer i am upgrading their score from a ''D' to a 'C'. i will keep you posted. i am sure this grade will change again after the work is completed. thanks Basile for making the effort to ameliorate the situation. UPDATE: I contracted with Basile to regrade to slope properly. Basile sprayed the grass/weeds and then returned a few days later to regrade the yard after the foliage was dead. The workers were very nice. I was present when they started the work but left b4 it was completed. when i returned the ground still seemed lumpy. i contacted eric a few days later to share my concernes. eric came by and saw the that the ground was still lumpy and that water would pool. he had his workes to come by and address the problem. i was not there when they came to do the work b/ i believe additional dirt was removed. once i started watering the grass i noticed that the water pooling in large areas. a whole lot more then prior to the regrading. even after the sprinkler was turned off, a significant amount of water remained. after a hard rain it is like a lake in the backyard. i did not contact the company to repair again b/c they had already made an attempt to fix it once plus my grass was starting to grow back. i have attached pictures. one picute is right after the sprinkle was turned off. one is about 10 minutes after the sprinkle had been turned off. and one photo is after a rain storm. you be the judge. UPDATE 7-14-11 Owner Mike Basile is working hard to ameliorate the problem. i appreciate his efforts. will keep you posted

I have used Basile Landscaping in the past and been extremely pleased with their work and professionalism. Sadly, this experience was different. I first contacted Mike in May 2010 regarding a lock for a gate he had installed a couple of years earlier. It was broken and needed to be replaced. I also requested some estimates for different projects to be done around the yard, some of which were firm commitments and some of which were still in the "what about this" planning stages. He came out and took notes and said he would get the estimate to me in the mail soon. About this time, Basile Landscaping was mentioned in St. Louis Magazine, which may have resulted in more business than before (I'm trying to give him the benefit of doubt here). Over the next 5 months, I called and emailed Mike about 6-7 times and didn't hear back. Finally, in October, he called and apologized profusely for not getting back to me. He sent someone over to fix the lock the next day and said he would send me the estimates. While I appreciated the new lock and the apology, I never received any estimates. Overall, a very disappointing and frustrating experience, especially considering the stark contrast it posed to my earlier dealings with him.

Within 24 hours of calling the company for an estimate, Jim had called, come by and e-mailed me the estimate. We set a date for the job, they were there 1st thing that morning and did an excellent job. Everything about the experience was positive.

We ended up not going with this service provider, from a cost perspective (work was being done for parents, who had a limited budget to work with), but I felt compelled to put a "thumbs-up" review out there for Mike and his company. He was very responsive on the first contact, sending me a very clear E-mail bid later that day, and even going so far as to follow-up with me a few days later when he'd not heard from me, and also sending an amended quote with updated details. I called Mike and thanked him for the total professionalism, and added that we were not going to be able to go with his business, purely on a cost basis (he responded on this contact as well, very much appreciated). And although we didn't have any work completed by them, I could say with good certainty that if the quality of work could be measured by the level of professionalism and follow-through by his firm, then I'd say they're a very safe bet for anyone interested in having any work done for them. They are very professional. Jim came to our house and gave us a bid-we accepted the job and they were prompt at scheduling. The workers were courteous and hard-working and the job was complete in about 4 hours.

The guy that came was fine, he answered all of our questions. He walked around with us for an hour or so around our property and did a nice job.

They do a great job every week. If I ever move I will make sure they can take care of my yard

Showed up early, went over work to be performed and process. Great experience, only reason we didn't use service was that it was out of our budget.

This company was highly recommended by friends who were happy with the services but considered them expensive. I was impressed by their professionalism and comment during the interview. However, the estimate provided for the work was, I felt, extremely expensive and we did not pursue the project further with them.

It all started well, lawn looking good during fall of 2009 and spring of 2010. So this summer (2010) the company applied fertilization and weed control which gradually spun out of control. We ended up with NO grass !!! It is very clear that the last application not only totally finished the grass, it also killed a tree in our back yard ! Calling Mike, the company owner was a very unpleasant experience. Basically he did not care, never came out of his office to see what I was complaining about. We had other major problems with the company. The people who cut the lawn kept destroying different things on our property. They broke! our siding, pushed our down spot and cut the top off one of our drains. They also cut the grass too low, especially for the hot summer we had experienced, which helped in the destruction of our grass. We also hired an irrigation guy through the company. He messed our previous programming, but when we called him back to fix it, he and Mike insisted on charging us.

Responded promptly and provided an estimate. Started work when indicated and completed in one day. Returned for a short addition to straighten sod line on side. They did a good job -- it looks so nice. We are very happy with the results and will call them when we need other work done.

This was our second experience with Basile. We planned the job with Eric Herter of Basile. (The first was a stone retaining wall, reported here last year.) This was a bigger job involving regrading, water diversion, shrubs, and placement of flagstones. Basile provides high quality in both materials and crew. Complete clean-up after the job was done. At the end of each day Eric would call telling us what work had been done, how it was going, and asking if we had any questions. Pricing is not cheap, but the value is extraordinary in terms of materials, workmanship, communication, timeliness, and final results.

Based on the other reports on the list, I knew I was going to call Basile first, since I wanted so much work done. They were a pleasure from start to finish. Eric, the desgn rep, came out and walked around with me and got a detailed idea of what I wanted done. He also gave me suggestions for the swale and french drain - I knew I had a problem, I just didn't know what I was going to do about it. He then took measurements and within 48 hours sent me a detailed proposal complete with diagram. After we settled on the work to be done, he came out before they started to finalize the details Their work crews are fantastic. Jaun, the crew chiet,took time to make sure I was happy with the work in progress. He also came up with additional suggestions to handle my drainage problem, since he was hands-on and could view the problem in action. They do a very high quality job, and clean the work area up completely when they leave each day. Eric followed weeks after the work was completed to make sure everything was functioning well, and made some suggestions for additional drainage improvements. I wish every experince with home maintenance and remodeling could be as pleasant as this one. They are not the least expensive option, but if you want it done right and done well, you will get every dollar you paid them and then some. I drive up to my house now and say "Wow, who lives here?".

Eric responded quickly to my request for a quote and came out to the property to discuss the problem with me. He formulated several options, even getting outside inputs, and then delivered quotes for two options based on what we had discussed. Eric was responsive to my questions and very easy to communicate with.

It was higher than the company that I went with. He submitted a really professional bid. He was very courteous.

They always seem to have a good solid workforce. They are a little deficient in understanding green homes. However, they're adaptable. The quality of the work is very good. It has taken them much longer than I ever thought, but it's more work than I ever thought, too. The prices are a little high, but fair.

They came out to do the work on a weekly basis. They came out 3 times, and it was $36 per cut. I was never there when they were here but the yard was always left neat and clean. They were very responsive. I had a difficult time getting in touch with them over the phone, but they handled everything over email very well; it was neither their fault nor mine - we just couldn?t connect over phone because of a phone tag issue. There were some better prices out there but they had a better reputation. We have renewed their services for the next year.

They did a good job and the seeding worked, which worried me since it was so late in the season. They were here for 5 hours, which is a lot of time for what I paid! I was pleased with the results.

Excellent. They completed all work as requested. The patio was made with brick pavers in a cobblestone look and is just what we wanted. Nice curves and solid construction. The patio involved moving and re-working some lawn irrgation lines, which they handled. Our front landscaping was put in 10 years ago. We wanted some overgrown bushes removed and we wanted new perrenial plants and plants that would be green all year. Basile did an excellent job pulling out old plants and planting new ones. We're looking forward to Spring. They also solved a standing water issue on our front walk, and used large stones to create a shortcut through the landscaping for people entering the house from the front. Nice job all the way around, and very professional.

I thought that they were pretty good. They were pretty thorough. I had to have them redo the path, because the supervisor did not know exactly where I wanted it to go so they redid it. They mulched everything in my garden, which I thought was very good. They did a good job and it was a large space. I thought that they were a little bit pricey for the work. They do a thorough job when they come out. I had used them for aeration and seeding since. I will continue to use them in the future.

I think overall they did a good job. The people were courteous and the representative that I worked with was punctual on all his appointments. The people that did do the work did a nice job, although they damaged my driveway, which was a significant negative because I just repaired it.

The work began when I was told it would. Workers were very professional and attentive to detail; they checked it with me before leaving to ensure all was done to satisfaction. Calls from the company rep before and after the job checked to ensure the job was done correctly from start to finish.
