The patio is awesome! We have had so many compliments on it. They built it strong enough to support our hot tub, even installed the conduit under the pavers for the hot tub power so there are no lines above ground. We will not get termites, carpenter bees or carpenter ants in our new patio - or need to stain and seal it yearly like our deck. We are extremely happy!
Description of Work: Basille: Removed our old rotting deck Installed a new patio with a retaining wall and fence to replace the deck Removed and replaced two old piers for a second story deck that were rotted and not installed correctly originally.

I called for an estimate. Jim came to our home, and told us what we needed. In the fall, he called to schedule. They came out and performed the job. We paid them. I will call them for a spring treatment.
Description of Work: Basile Landscaping performed a fall treatment to our sorry lawn. They aerated, fertilized and overseeded.

Sales Rep was prompt and very curteous. Unfortunately cost was to high due the fact that the work I needed was small so there was a min. order cost. I have no problems with contacting this company in the future.

Eric at Basile was quick to respond and schedule an appointment to view project to be quoted. He seemed knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the job. Was very much looking forward to his plans for our yard. One month and two phone calls later, no quote. Very disappointed. We will not be using Basile for our landscaping. Based upon the companies that DID provide a quote, our job is about $5,000. Apparently, Baslile is either too busy or our needs too small.
Description of Work: Only an initial visit was performed. No follow up for over a month.

Went very well overall. There are always problems with any job - weather , miscommunications etc. but this company did their best to exceed our expectations, not just meet them. Too often in this world people want to do a job as minimally as possible for as much money as possible. Many just take the money and run and don't care how inconvenienced or unsatisfied you are. Basile (I dealt mostly with Eric who was just wonderful to work with! ) did not just to the job so that is was "good enough," they did it the right way because they take pride in their work and reputation. As a result, I will recommend them to as many other people as I can and will give them all my future landscaping business. Wish every service provider was like Basile!
Description of Work: When I tell you how wonderful this company is, you will think I am exaggerating! I have worked with many contractors of late and all of them left much to be desired but this company was fantastic. They did an excellent job listening ( - really listening, not just giving lip service) to what we wanted and they did their best to work within our budget. Their workers were very respectful and worked very hard, sometimes the weather making working conditions difficult. While other contractors we've had left a huge mess at the end of the day (including their lunch/coffee/cigarette trash) these men left the job immaculate. We had major work done -lots of bushes removed, lots of digging etc. so alot of mess necessarily had to be created in order to get the job done right. At the end of the day they swept, washed, vacuumed - leaving the place cleaner than I could have expected. We don't like people smoking or listening to loud music when they work for us. No one played music and when they smoked, it was inside their trucks, off our property. Not one cigarette butt to be found left behind like other inconsiderate people have left. If ever there was a question, if something wasn't what we expected, they immediately addressed our questions or concerns. We had serious drainage problems and the original plan we tried did not work so they suggested another solution. The first solution they tried, while trying to keep our budget in mind, did not work but there was no way of knowing that before hand. So we had to go with another avenue. While it did cost us a little more, I thought it was certainly a fair price for all the hard work they did. So far, the second solution to the horrible drainage problem we had has worked very well. We paid another contractor, a few years ago, to replace old window wells. The job was not done right. We lost money and had a lot of aggrivation because of the water getting into the wells. Basile came in and replaced the window wells properly and made sure the drainage would go away from the house instead of towards/into the house. We had a large gravel area which had to be removed and reseeded. They dug it all up and brought it all to the front of the house to be put in trucks to be discarded --- they made sure that they didn't spill the gravel all over the yard, no trail of mess was left. We were impressed. We had many new bushes and trees put in. One tree has not made it - with this horrible weather we are surpised only one did not survive. They are going to come out in the fall and replace it. The service before, during and after the job has been excellent. It is nice to work with people who have the same values and work ethic we do. In every case they not only did what they said they would do, they always went a step beyond. Many of my neighbors have come to tell me how impressed they were with the company and the work they did. I will definitely have any future work done by this company and recommend them highly.

Eric was my contact at Basile from start to finish. He came to my house with lots of great ideas on how we could clean up my yard and get back to a good baseline that we could more easily maintain on our own. Everything he suggested was common sense stuff that would make things look a lot better. I did not at any time feel like he was trying to upsell or push something unnecessary on us. After we spoke he spent some time taking lots of pictures and measurements, and emailed a bid within a few days after after the visit. I accepted and sent the 50% deposit to get on the schedule. The crew spent three days at my house. They were all extremely courteous and very effective at what they were doing - each day when I came home I could see that significant progress was being made. I was seriously impressed by how they had cleared out so much of the overgrowth just in the first day. Eric stopped by a couple times while the work was being done to check up on things, and the week after the work was done he followed me to make sure that I was happy with what was done. I was in fact quite happy and things came out great. I am very pleased with what all happened here and I look forward to hiring Basile to put down some sod in my back yard this fall.
Description of Work: My yard was already in bad shape when I purchased my house two years ago, and between work and a new baby we were not able to keep up on maintenance. Consequently it turned into a jungle. I hired Basile Landscaping to clean this up. - Cleaned up the front bed of my house, removing significant ivy ground cover, volunteer tree, and weed overgrowth- Removed a large honeysuckle tree- Planted new bushes in front bed, transplanted others to new locations where they'd be placed better, and re-mulched- dug out a large weed patch between my driveway and my house and replaced it with a rock bed for low maintenance- dug out a 1-foot or so wide section between my property line fence and my driveway and replaced with a low-maintenance rock bed- cleaned up and mulched a 15-foot or so wide area of bed in my back yard

We hired them to address a situation of extreme neglect. We worked with Eric Herter to create a plan of action. He is articulate, knowledgeable, punctual, professional. He scheduled a maintenance and new planting package on a date about a month later; his crew arrived prompthly on that date, and by the time they left the premises, the place looked terrific and the curb appeal was restored.

Eric Herter was terrific. We had used Eric and Basile Landscaping before at our old house. He answered all of our questions and came by the house as often as we needed to discuss the project. They spent a significant amount of time just clearing the yard. It was labor intensive because the garden was so large and was left unattended for years. As they were removing ivy, we discovered stone paths and walls that we never knew existed. There were no problems, the employees were respectful and professional, and the cost was as estimated. My new neighbors even complimented Basile on how well they cleaned up after each day.
Description of Work: Basile cleared a very large garden in the back of the house and along the side. The garden was overgrown with many shrubs, plants, different types of ivy, and a small tree. There was also a signficant amount of concerete and stone paths that had to come out. Before they started, Eric Herter gave us good advice as to what plants and bulbs we should keep. We ended up transplanting a few plants and two hundred bulbs to friends and family. Basile then installed a sprinkler system in the front, side and back of the house, replaced the garden with sod and seeded and treated the front lawn.

No work was completed by Basile. I did see the email which they resent posted dated and I have amended my review accordingly. They still did not follow up to see if I received the bid or if I had any other questions regarding the bid. In a service driven business like landscaping, this is still part of the process for them, as the contractor, to do for any new business development they may have outstanding.
Description of Work: Never received a bid after they came out to look at the job. Called a week later and was told it would be sent via email. Never received and in the meantime, I have had the work bid, decided and completed and still no bid from them! I did see the email from them post dated and have amended my review accordingly. They still did not follow up to see if I recieved the bid or if I had any other questions. In a service business, this is still part of any process for new business development.

Response from Basile Landscaping & Lawn Care LLC
We contacted this customer and discussed this matter. We have a record of the bid being submitted to the customer in the time promised. We forwarded him the original email bid so he could see the date and time, which was a week after the original meeting. We think that we have proven to him that the bid was sent in a timely manner and that his report was not warranted and in fact incorrect. We have asked him to remove the negative report if he agrees that this is an email mistake and we are awaiting a response from him.

Eric Herter responded on time to do a walk-through for an estimate as appointment was set. We went over the job with him we wanted done and he sent estimate. We agreed to the work. The yard maintenance went well as it has in the past. The crew that was sent to do the work was efficient and courteous, they were punctual and did a fine job. The leader of the crew, Mike, rebuilt the retaining wall. He worked very hard the second day, but didn't finish. I then received a call that he wouldn't be back the next day to finish - it may be a day or two. Mike came back two days later and completed the job. He did a very good job with the wall and we were pleased, however, at the time Eric walked through to do the estimate with us, he stated they would power wash each stone that needed cleaning before it was put back. That did not happen. Eric also said he personally would be out the second day to see how things were doing, but called with an excuse. Then the day the crew was to finish the job Eric called with an excuse about not having a crew and not being able to pull from some other client so we would have to wait. He also was going to come out and see how it all went when the job was finished, but called with another excuse. All in all we were pleased with the work...it just took longer than I think they estimated. We thought the stones would be washed as Eric stated during the initial walk though and felt Eric should have come by during the work at some point and met with us as a professional courtesy. Even though we have used this company in the past and been pleased, we may look for a different service next spring.

I called Eric about the job around the end of February, and by March 9 the job was completed. He came out immediately and sent the proposal on March 1 and they came on the 9th and worked all day until job was completed.
Description of Work: Cleaned out our dry creek bed (which they had put in a couple years back), cleaned out all of the leaves from the front and the back yard, completely mulched all of our beds and created a beautiful little bed around our tree in the front yard. Trimmed all the bushes around the house (most of which they planted a couple years back). Cleaned out the area under our deck and put down more rock. Along our creek bed I had planted some little spiky plants and they divided them and planted them further up the creek bed. It looks awesome! They raked our entire lawn and cleaned everything up perfect

The project went very, very well. I called Basile and Jim Thomes called me back within 24 hours. We made an appointment for him to come over and look at my project. He was easy to work with and gave me several ideas and options for the areas. Once we made decisions on design, pavers and the fence, he e-mailed me a detailed bid. The guys were able to start within 2-3 weeks. The project took a week. They were there first thing in the mornings and worked until late in the afternoons. I made a few changes during the process and Jim and the crew worked with me to insure that I was satisfied. The patio and fence are both beautiful and the stone edging in front looks great!
Description of Work: Basile removed an existing brick patio, wall and a brick landscaped area. They installed PVC pipe with clean out adapters to extend the gutter downspouts under the patio and into the front yard. They replaced the patio with stone pavers and built a retaining wall and also a pathway to the driveway both with stone pavers. They removed a wooden fence and replaced it with a beautiful composite fence along side of the patio. They also replaced brick edging in the front of the house with natural flagstone.

Obtained quotes from 4 highly rated companies on Angie's list Concrete was definitely the cheaper option, but we decided on pavers because of aesthetics and durability (we hope). Basile was not the cheapest bid, but also not the most expensive We were initially impressed by their responsiveness, the thought that they put into the project, and the detailed quote that we received. They were very helpful in selecting the best material / color for our house. We had a strict deadline for finishing the project; they told us that they could complete the project by the deadline, despite being the busiest time of year for them. They came and completed the project when promised, on time! The workers and supervisor were very professional, knowledgable, courtesy, and hard-working. They clearly knew what they were doing. Although we spent much more than if we simply replaced the walkway and stairs with poured concrete, the final results are very beautiful and all of our neighbors have complimented us on the results. In contrast, we have witnessed others in our area perform similar projects using other apparently 'budget rate' contractors or poured concrete- we are glad that we went with Basile and the paver approach.

I believe all projects went very well. I have cites my experiences in the previous section
Description of Work: I began working with Mike Basile and Eric Herter in 2008 when they removed, hauled off and disposed of the existing tie wall on the west side of my home. They removed the established hydrangeas and saved them to transplan into new planting area. They installed approximately 129 square feet of a two terraced, capped Versa-Loc strone wall. The approximate dimensions of this side wall are 5'at a 3' height and 5'at a 2' height. A slotted drain tile (like a French drain) was installed under clean rock to catch the water behind the wall. A filter fabric was installed around the drainage system to prevent topsoil from clogging the drain. The terraces behind the wall were filled with the excavated soil and topsoil was addred at necessary. The hydrangeas were tranplanted the the bed covered with double ground oak bark mulch. At that same time two existing planting areas were cleaned and the existing landscape tie timbers were removed and hauled away. These two beds were edged with Natural Cobblestone edging and covered with landscape fabric and natural stone. I was extremely pleased with the projects and had them return in 2009 to my mother's home for landscaping. In 2009 My Mother's back patio bed was cleaned, the existing plants were removed, haluled off . Her existing hydrangeas (3 plants) were relocated to the newly topsoiled clean bed. Approximately 40' of cobblestone edging was installed around the perimeter of the bed. An additional bed by the patio was cleaned, the existing plants were removed, hauled off. Hostas were planted in this bed. Eric Herter was in charge of this project and again we were extremely pleased. In 2010 I worked again with Eric Herter on the landscaping of my courtyard in the front of my home. They sprayed the unwanted ground cover with a commercial grade round-up to weaken the plants. On a later visit they removed, hauled off and disposed of the unwanted plants, weeds, leaves and debrise. They worked compost into the soil to create an ideal growing environment and added topsoil to the beds. They graded the area to ensure the proper slope and installed weed guard. They installed trap rock under the exiting Japanese maple and matching decorative gravel to the remaining bed areas. They took up and existing Mexican beach pebbles and re-stalled the pebbles and a stone path from the door at the garage to the main walk ways. They planted 2 pink knockout roses, 1 spires, 2 false cypress, 1 blue spruce, 7 Japanese painted ferns, 5 bears breeches, 7, astible, and 5 hostas. At the same time an additional landscape project was completed on the left side of my house. Again the bed preparation was the same. Cobblestone edging, steel edging and natural stone was installed. One weeping Japanese maple, 3 hydrangea's, 3 iteas, 6 hostas and 5 Lenten roses were installed. At this time, the irrigation specialist, Mark Howell installed an irrigation system to the lawn and landscaping areas. In the lawn areas he and his crew member installed the following: 12, 4" pop-up sprinklers, 4 1" valves, 300 ft of 1" PVC pipe,1, 12 Station controller, 200 ft of 13 strand 18 guage wire, and 1 master valve. In the landscape areas they installed: 35 12" micro spray assemblies, 2 1" valved, and 200 ft of 1/2" poly pipes. All jobs have been done to my satisfaction. In 2011 Eric Herter worked with my nieghbor and myself on a drainage problem between our houses. Again, they removed, hauled off and disposed of the turf between the two properties. They installed various sized and small natural stone boulders to create a bed edge and water break designed to direct water as it comes down the hill through the turf towards the low point between the two homes. From this low point they installed a dry creek bed that extends to the wood line. The creek is approximately 4" wide and larger boulders are installed at the top of the creek. Smaller boulders were used along the sides of the dry creeek. The rest of the area between the two homes is filled with Meramec gravel over felt. I also had Meramec gravel installed over commercial grade week guard felt under my deck. I have been very pleased with the work performed by Basile Landscaping and plan to have them complete another project this spring.

Our contact with Basile was Eric Herter and he was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. He listened carefully to our preferences, came up with a fabulous plan for our yard and adjusted it according to our aesthetic and financial concerns. The difference to the front landscape of our house is great and the process of dealing with Eric and the Basile crews has been one of those great experiences with a contractor that you wish you had every time you contracted to have work done on your house! As all of you know, this was a very diificult summer to try and install and then nurture plants. Unfortunately, some of our plants did not make it and Basile has been great in backing up their work. They have been responsive to all of our concerns and we will try to use them for all future lawn/landscape concerns.
Description of Work: Created a landscape design for our whole yard. Removed an existing retaining wall, removed two old large white pines, made new beds, created a new "living wall" with boulders, created new beds, planted 4 trees and numerous other plants. Recommended and then co-ordinated with a concrete company who installed a new front walk and porch.

I had discussed this work with Eric from Basile earlier in the spring and that I wouldn't be ready to complete it until late summer or early fall. Once I contacted him to tell him I was ready to go ahead, Eric had a crew out to do the work within about 2 weeks. A crew of 4 showed up around 9:00 with all the plants and necessary materials. They immediately began work at clearing out plants I wanted to have removed and doing a general lawn cleanup. Once that was done, they recut the edges of the beds before laying mulch around 4 flower beds and several trees. When they were ready to begin planting, the foreman asked me to come and check the layout and made some minor adjustments before continuing the work. They were finished with the entire job by 3:00 that afternoon. The crew was very efficient and polite and left the place looking beautiful!
Description of Work: Basile did a general lawn cleanup, removing sweet gum balls from the lawn, trimming shrubs and replacing mulch around trees and in flower beds. They also removed several overgrown/dead shrubs, then planted new shrubs and flowers in the front flower beds.

They came to our house to discuss our desire for a landscape plan and partial installation of the plan. They recommended hiring a landscape architect based on the scale of the project and our desire to develop a master landscape plan for the property. Information on the architect was not provided within timeframe I was told. Proposal with architect's information was received within one week of meeting. We went with another company that had a landscape architect on staff.

We called to follow up with this customer about his report and the proposal process and he recollects that we set an expectation of getting a proposal back to him within 2-3 days of meeting with him. Our records indicate that we sent a proposal back to him 6 days after meeting with him. We typically set an expectation of 1-2 weeks to receive an estimate back from us, but in this case we fell short of what the customer remembered being promised. We will continue working to set realistic, accurate expectations and making sure we meet them.

Juan Delgado and his crew came on Monday and removed trees, bushes and other debris from our yard. There was so much stuff they removed it took them two trips to get rid of the waste. They also ground down the tree stumps and added the topsoil. Juan let me know that he thought it would look better and be easier for them to lay the sod if they removed the lower limbs from the blue spruce trees. I agreed and he did that for us. It looks absolutely gorgeous. On Tuesday they came back and put in the sod. The plants that they were to put in our terrace area didn't not arrive on time so Juan and his crew came back out on Wednesday to install them for us. We are extremely happy with Basile but especially with Juan and his crew. They never stopped working except to grab a quick bite for lunch. They were so pleasant to work with. All in all our experience had been awesome and we would recommend Basile hands down.
Description of Work: Removal of large shrubs, trees, plants and other debris. Tree stumps ground down. Topsoil added and the area was graded to prepare for new sod. Fescue sod was installed. Crape myrtles and day lilies were installed.

Installation was completed as described. The quality of the completed work was excellent. Except for some delay in receiving the initial proposal, all efforts were performed in a professional and timely manner.
Description of Work: Installed approximately 74 feet of French drain through the low point of the back yard. The French drain was installed in a 12 inch deep by 6 inch wide trench with a 2 inch rock base laid with 0.75 inch clean gravel. The 4 inch drain pipe was slotted, to collect water, and covered with a sleeve to screen out sediment from potentially clogging the pipe. Another 3 inches of 0.75 inch clean rock was then installed on top of the pipe and the remaining 3 inches was filled in with topsoil. Water from the French drain was outlet into 2 pop-up emitters. Mexican rainbow creek rock was laid at the lowest section of the back yard near the pop-up emitters.

Made a request for a bid via email and they responded the next morning. We set up an appointment to meet at the house. Mike arrived on time and looked at the situation. He said he would submit a bid in a day or so and he did that. His bid was significantly lower than the other bid we got, in part because his approach to theproblem was different. Upon our acceptance of the bid, the work was scheduled and completed on that schedule (with a one day delay because of weather). The work was done as promised and appears to be working as intended. The whole process went very smoothly.
Description of Work: Installation of a french drain on all four sides of a detached garage in the back yard Connecting those drains to an existing underground drain Installation of gutter guard on the garage Installation of a collection box in the front yard Entension of the drain from the downspout in the front of the house

Thank you member for the report. We greatly appreciated the work and the chance to do this job for you. It certainly was a challenging drainage project and we're happy we could solve the problems.

They were pretty well equal to the other bids I got and they did have good ideas but again it was my personal idea what I wanted done. There was nothing wrong with what they did but I just felt that the other provider gave me a little bit more. If I had another big job to do I would contact them again. It was more of my personal preferences and what I was getting for my dollar that mattered to me.
Description of Work: Basile Landscaping & Lawn Care LLC came out to give me an estimate a month ago for lawn and yard work.
