They took the time to do a design and talk to us about options and recommendations of what plants and flowers that would be optimal for our yard. The work turned out to be fantastic. We only had one tree die on us through this whole process. The work seemed to take care of most, if not all, the moisture problem we were experiencing. There is no way I would have done this job myself, so for the price, it was worth it to have them come in and do the work. We have an ongoing contract for mulch service and to winterize our watering service. We had a couple of issues that became a communication issue and we had to make sure they corrected the problem, but it was resolved quickly. We will use this company in the future.
Description of Work: We have hired this company to put in a 5-zone lawn irrigation, landscaping, hardscaping, sewer work on one side of the work, and gutters. They created 2 walking paths and added some extra things to the work they were already doing.

The drainage system has worked beautifully. We used to have standing water and soggy ground for up to a week after rainfall, but that is no longer the case. The flower beds look great and the rock and flagstones that were added really top it all off. I really enjoyed working with Eric. He is very professional and always called to make sure the work was done to our satisfaction. We still use them for ongoing lawn maintenance and will continue to use them in the future for any larger yard projects, too.
Description of Work: Attached downspouts to underground drain lines to direct run-off water away from house. Installed drain line and new drain box in swale at low part of yard and connected to existing drain boxes. Cleaned-up existing flower beds and added landscape rock to aid drainage problem.

It went very well. They were very helpful in advising us about our different options and lowered their price when they had inadvertently removed some of our landscaping plants.
Description of Work: Basile Landscaping installed deep edging around all of our mulch beds and added mulch. They also installed a stone edge along a mulch bed which had previously kept eroding into the driveway.

I'm the type of person on a survey that usually gives 4/5 for good service. So for me to rate these guys as A across the board is something. From the start they worked with me to get out to my place to get a quote in on my schedule, even though they had to juggle people. They gave the most detailed quoted of any of those bidding on the project. They knew I had a deadline and worked very hard to get it done in that time (and they did). They did a very professional job, cleaning up after themselves every day, and overall once the project was done. They got on my project and stayed on my project till it was done, occasionally bringing in more than one crew. They were very responsive to any questions/concerns I had. The job went great - we're very satisfied. We have a usuable area in back of our walkout basement instead of a muddy hill.
Description of Work: Concrete pad beneath deck busted out and replaced with paver patio. Natural stone stairway installed from front of house around back, and down hill from walkout basement to yard. Flagstone walkways installed between staircases and patio. Mini retaining wall on hill from front to back with stairway. Gravel beneath deck that wasn't patio. Two front beds cleaned up, planted and mulched.

The lawn really needed some work done and they ploughed up a fairly large area and replanted it and it looks than time better than it did. I was pleased with them and I got them because they had a good rating, but their pricing was on the higher side. They were professional, responsive and punctual.

Estimate only, did not hire for the work needed. ($1,580.00)
Description of Work: Obtained estimate only, went with another contractor due to my needs to manage costs. However, Eric from Basile arrived for the estimate on time, was very friendly, professional, listened to what I had to say, offered suggestions and alternatives and provided a prompt estimate. I would consider use of this company in the future.

This is the first time that I used this company, and I was very pleased with their service. They were responsive to my request for a quote. Eric came to my home with his one of his foreman to review my landscaping with me. Their crew arrived when scheduled and completed the work in a timely manner. I will use their services again. They added some decorative gravel that was not in my original quote but that I requested during the walk through without additional charge, which was great.
Description of Work: Basile provided Spring maintenance on my existing landscaping. They cut back foliage, as necessary, edged garden areas, and added mulch and decorative rock where needed.

Basile bid against two other vendors, but seemed the most knowledgeable and professional even though they were the most expensive. We had to pay for the initial landscape proposal while one other vendor did not charge. The crew arrived on schedule and worked intermittently for three consecutive weeks. Dan, the Foreman, was exceptional in terms of accessibility, diligence and skill. Mike, the owner, visited the site at least twice a week and was extremely receptive to our suggestions and adaptable to our work schedule. The work crew was professional, polite and highly skilled. They transformed our general concepts into landscaping works of art. Both our stone wall and rear garden path represent some of the finest craftsmanship I have seen. We have since received many compliments from neighbors and family.

First of all, I need to credit Eric, who bid the project and oversaw the work, for his creativity. When he came out to examine the front flower bed, our main concern, we really didn't know what we wanted other than some way to reduce water from leaking into the basement through that bed. We mentioned an idea another contractor had suggested, and Eric spend about 30 min brainstorming other ideas with us. We finally settled on two options, the one we ultimately chose (described above) and a more expensive strategy that involved installing a drain box. The work itself didn't go precisely as planned, but in the end it turned out just fine. The crew of 3 men started fairly early in the morning. I happened to look out the window and notice that in addition to digging up the front flower bed they also started digging up the corner bed, which was *not* part of the requested work, in fact, they cut down a rather large shrub and were working on digging its roots up by the time I noticed. I immediately called Eric, who wasn't on site and hadn't been out yet (he's not the foreman, but typically stops by to check on the work), he assured me he'd deal with the situation, immediately called the on site foreman to tell them to stop working until he arrived, and came by within 15 minutes to assess the situation. Fortunately, we weren't attached to the large corner shrub, and this mistake had a happy ending. They enlarged the corner bed and made it match the front bed aesthetically, and they replanted the 3 shrubs from the front in this enlarged corner bed. We also found that the original large shrub's roots were threatening the clay sewer pipe, so it's probably good they removed it. Eric and the crew were very apologetic about the mix-up and were good-natured about resolving the matter. Once we'd settled on a solution, the work on both beds took a few more hours. The crew cleaned up thoroughly and even spread some of the extra soil beside our house where we needed to plant some new grass seed (over a French drain the same company had installed a few months earlier). Eric called the next day to verify that we were satisfied with the work and offer some advice about how to take care of the new plantings (e.g., watering, pruning).
Description of Work: They did some work in two flower beds in front of our house, mainly to improve some water drainage and leaky-basement problems, but also for aesthetic purposes. Specifically, the front center flower bed was our primary concern because we thought, based on our observations and opinions from a few contractors, water might be pooling in the bed and leaking into the adjacent room in our basement. This is hard to describe, but essentially they knocked out the concrete edging blocks around this bed, removed three small shrubs and dug the bed down to a particular level (where water seemed to be leaking through a seam between poured concrete and brick), installed rubber pond-liner material in an 'L' shape going from the soil up the wall, and re-filled the bed. They planted some new grass and rose bushes, graded the bed distinctly away from the stoop, and topped it off with oak-bark mulch. They also enlarged a corner bed, replacing a large out-of-control shrub with 3 smaller ones, and topped it off with mulch, this wasn't actually planned, though (see below).

I recently purchased this home and I knew the yard had been neglected for quite a few years because of all of the overgrowth. I contacted a few other landscaping companies but we decided to choose Basile Landscaping. Their crew of three men arrived with the boss. We went over the work to be performed and they started to work immediately. After the end of the first day and when the job was completed they cleaned up the entire work area.
Description of Work: They removed all of the weeds that were in the garden bed, cut back and trimmed all of our trees out back and out front, removed all of the ivy that was growing along our backyard fences and on the back of the garage, dug up and replanted some of the yuccas, and removed our box woods from out front of the house.

Overall, I think it was pretty good. The only issue I had was with the flagstone path. He did offer to come out and look at it and redo it, but I decided not to have him. It is a little too low, so water collects on it. The work with the mulch was good. I was a little disappointed with the lawn as well. He communicated well. He asked what was going on and offered to come back, but I decided not to do it.

My experience was very good. They were a bit slow in getting me a bid, but once I made contact with them, the bidding process went fairly quickly (this was not an urgent project on my part so the slow bid was not an issue). Mike was in contact with me during the project to have me answer a couple of questions; after all was done, I had to call him about watering and he was prompt in returning my call. I should also explain that my bid was a bit complicated since there are several things I want to have done, but have to prioritize them. The bid met all the details we had discussed during our preliminary meeting - in fact, it went into far more detail than I expected. This was not my lowest bid, which is the only reason for the B on price. The price was important, but the fact that Mike also supplied a list of customer references was impressive. I felt more comfortable with Mike because of the detailed bid and also because of some drainage issues around my house - he made me feel as if he'd worked on similar issues successfully.
Description of Work: I had a dog run in my backyard that was rock over landscape tarp. They took out the rock and landscape tarp, leveled the area, and put in sod. I also had them aerate, over seed, and fertilize my entire lawn.

Very positive. Eric is the contact we worked with. He was always very responsive and quickly provided any information we needed. From the first contact, through our decision to contract with them, Eric was in touch but was never pushing us toward a decision. The work took about 1.5 days and was done very well. The work crew kept a neat job site and completed everything to our satisfaction. Part of the drain piping had to go through existing landscaping wall that had to be dug out. This was completely put back together, and you cannot tell anything was done to it. The real test of this came with the remnants of Hurricane Gustav, 5+ inches in about 5 hours. The drain worked perfectly! No pooling of water in the front yard. I highly recommend this landscaping team.

Wanted better look for putting house on market without completely redoing and spending a lot of money. Eric worked with me by coming to the house twice before we agreed on the work. They came in a timely manner and finished the work in 1 1/2 days. I called him back because they had missed something and they came back right away and finished up.
Description of Work: Trimmed bushes, cut an edging around mulch, added new mulch to freshen up, added rock to fill in bare spaces, buried an exposed pipe and covered with sod, generally cleaned and freshened up, removed some unattractive shrubs and planted some nicer ones.
