Fence and Deck Depot

We contracted Fence and Deck Depot to build a 4 foot white cedar fence for our residential home. My husband was impressed with the "quality wood" they used which is why he choose them instead of the two other companies that provided us quotes. We met with Aristole to determine fence line and style. We specifically stated the fence had to be no more than 4 ft tall due to HOA regulations in our subdivision. We discussed different fence styles, inquired what he thought and he said what we described would look great. So, we proceeded and my husband had to steak off the property for measurement as Aristole followed. I had a bad feeling from the get go. The crew showed up and worked quickly, the fence was put up timel and used the materials as discussed. The fence line; however, was NOT straight at all. My husband contacted the company right away, they sent out the owner who did understand the issue. He indicated they could staighten it a bit but due to the style of fence we chose, this is the look it created. I was furious, we specifically asked about the style and if it would work and were told absolutely. They did come and straigten the fence line as best they could. The fence measures at 4.5 ft tall, again it was the "style" of fence we chose that made the fence taller. While I understand the fence style may have created some of these issues, we asked and we told them several times due to the HOA the fence could not be over 4 ft. Why would they not tell us this style will be over 4 ft or when they were building why would they not say anything? Well, it is one year later and that quality wood we purchased has multiple warped boards (which are not covered under warranty). Some are so bad that the nails have popped out. The fence just looks bad and my husband contacted the company to discuss and they informed him the warping was not covered under warranty. He said OK, I will replace those boards but could someone come out and look at the other issues? That was over 2 weeks ago and no one has ever called to schedule. We are disappointed in the product and the service. Our same subdivision has a huge project going on with retaining walls and they asked if anyone could recommend a fence company for the top of the massive retaining walls, all we said was don't use Fence and Deck Depot. Shortly after writing this review, the company contacted me while on vacation stating they would come and replace the warped boards. We were thrilled and asked if they could come the second week in June (this was the first week when they called and we were out of town). They said sure. We never heard from them. My husband called, they are busy. My husband called again today 6.24.2014 to inquire...again they are busy. The posts are different heights, the boards are warped, nails are popping out and the fence is just over a year old. They are willing to put their name on this product. It's a shame the only thing a customer who has already paid can do is write an honest review hoping others don't have to go through the same disappointment in the future. Utterly disappointed and beyond frustrated but glad to see the owner replies to all his A reviews.

The latch on my fence had broken and I had gone everywhere looking for the part. (All new parts were not long enough.) So I went to Fence and Deck Depot as my last resort. They didn't have the part either, but they offered to custom make the part for me. They had the part finished and painted by the end of the day. They were great!

Fence & Deck Depot was the lowest bid of the four top-rated fence installers in my area on Angie's List, all of whom were highly rated. This was a large fence project, and the actual installation took about two days. There was some brief follow up to finish the gate latches. The lines are dead on, and we are extremely happy with both the product and the installation. Communication and appointments were punctual, and the staff were pleasant and professional.

We met with Fence and Deck Depot early December and chose a fence. We had other bids but we chose them because their product seemed to be better quality and they were very concerned about code. We have a somewhat difficult area to fence and they found ways to make it work. They were also very thorough. He went over the paperwork with me over and over. Most of our fence was gone and we worked it into the deal for them to tear out the rest and leave it by our burn pile. He showed me a bush that we would need to cut way back or remove before they could do it. They thought they'd get started end of december once the fence came in. Mid-January they finally came but left saying they couldn't do it because the remnants of fence was in the way and we hadn't cleared the branches of the trees to 6' up. We had cut back the bush but hadn't been told to trim up all the trees. They were mostly trimmed that high anyway. So we cut everything out and removed our fence ourselves (we didn't want anymore hold-ups - we have a dog that couldn't go outside alone until this was complete). THey didn't come back for another week or more and when they did, I was out of town. This trip had been planned for a while and I really thought the fence would have been in at least three weeks before I left. ANyway, You can imagine my surprise when I got back and it was the wrong fence. I had chosen a modern fence with no ornamentation and this one had spikes. It was the right color and size but definitely not a fence I would have chosen. I called them up and told them. They asked me what I wanted them to do. I asked what my options were and Gabe said he didn't know. So I had to think of something which was uncomfortable. I told him I felt really bad having them come rip the whole thing out and replacing it (also, I finally had a fence and didn't want to give it up). I asked if they would discount it enough to make it worth keeping even though i didn't love it. He said he'd call me back. He called back and told me they would take $400 off. It was a $9000 fence. I told him I didn't think that was right. If they had told me when selling me the fence that I could have the pointy one for $400 less than the one I chose I would have said no way. In fact, I wouldn't have wanted it for $1,000 less. But I was trying to save them the hassle. I said how about 10%. That seemed reasonable to me and was much less than it would cost them to tear this one out, dig new post holes and install a new one. He called me back the next day with a counter-offer of $650. He said,"You know we're taking a loss on this now!". Uh, so am I. I don't have the fence I wanted. That's a pretty big loss. Shouldnt' they have to take the loss on a mistake they admit they made? I was so frustrated but sick of dealing with it - they made me feel bad everytime I talked to them, like I had done something wrong. So I took their offer and decided Angie's list was probably the best thing I could do. It's sad because I wouldn't have complained if they would have given me the 10%, even though that is still a much better deal for them. I do believe the fence is high-quality and was installed well.

i dealt with chris initially; he was very courteous. after an initial misunderstanding (mainly on my part, i think), things went very smoothly. two workers, after careful explanation of the plan, took down my decrepit old wooden fence and a/c enclosure and replaced them with quality vinyl fencing, and a total of four gates. during the installation, they encountered a problem which forced them to alter the plan for one side of my yard. this complicated their job, but they and the office came up with an elegant solution on the spot. they were hardworking and did a great job, and hauled away all the old wood. i am very happy with the job they did.

Called to get quote to replace aging wooden gates across our driveway with aluminum gates. Called on Monday, scheduled appt for Wednesday. Salesman came on time, was very nice, and knowledgeable, but price quoted verbally was $600+ more than another quote we'd already received. He also said they wouldn't be able to get to the job for about a month. He said he would get me the quote in writing the next day. Haven't heard from him since (it's almost a week later).

Fence and Deck Depot is a fantastic company to work with. Beginning with the quote to the final inspection the job went through without a hitch. Our salesman Ben was great to work with. He helped us make the decision on which fence would be the best suited for our needs. We received quotes on the exact same material used at other well known fencing companies and Fence and Deck was the most affordable. I can't say enough good things about the crew. They were extremely polite,conscientious, and hardworking. Just super nice guys! Even during some of the hottest days this summer they worked long hours to ensure the project met the scheduled deadline. I highly recommend Fence and Deck Depot

When first contacted, a price and installation date were established, but due to bad weather, the installation had to be delayed several weeks. I was also offered and took advantage of a financing plan of 12 months 0% interest. I received 2 other estimates and they worked with me to make sure their price was competitive.

The job, once started, went fairly well. I am happy with the fence. The only quibbles I have are 1) the crew didn't use powered augers to dig the holes for the posts and it took them longer to install the fence. When I mentioned this to management, they said the auger the crew had on their truck didn't work and didn't know they access to another auger. `The crew were Mexican and did not speak English real well, but they worked really hard and were very courteous. 2) On one side of the house I wanted a double gate wide enough (10') to drive a vehicle through. I wanted the gates to be 4' wide (man gate) and 6' wide. What they installed was two 5' gates, which is a little inconvienient. I didn't catch this when I signed off on the design plan and the salesman didn't mention it, so we're both at fault. Other than that, I am fairly happy with the fence. I feel that we got good value for the money we spent.

Everything from the salesman,who was helpful and not pushy,to the work crew went as well as could be expected.

, Loved the crew! I don't think I have ever seen such hard workers. If the product turns out to be half as good as the crew ,then we got a great fence. Give those guys a raise!

In general they were good, hard workers. They were a crew that spoke a foreign language which posed a little problem but it was fine. I was concerned that it didn't seem that they had set the posts in concrete as I didn't see any concrete at the surface. I wrote a review stating that they did not set the posts in concrete. Mr. Lusa called me and came out. He and a worker dig down at several random posts to show me the concrete. I appreciate how he handled my concerns and now feel that I would recommend them for their honesty and the quality of their product.

I read other reviews ... each experience is your own. Ours was worth every penny! We choose a winter project and knew it would be weather dependent. Communication worked both ways. We returned all calls and they did as well. No sales pitch. We knew what we wanted, had three companies come for estimates. We picked them because we really wanted the Red Cedar they offered. The design had to be modified to meet HOA rules and city regulation. No problem, they redrew and remarked the property. Highly recommend.

We had our work performed by the O'Fallon IL office of Fence and Deck Depot (same company). My husband finally had enough of replacing rotting fence posts and we decided to have our fence professionally installed. We contacted 3 companies for bids, and Fence Depot was in the middle in terms of price. Jon, their consultant, did an excellent job of reviewing our requirements, bringing up considerations we hadn't thought of (tie to neighbor's fences? match heights?), and explaining the differences in the types of materials. In the end we decided to go with Fence Depot based on the quality of product and workmanship (20 yr warranty on cedar fence, 3 yr on workmanship) and price. The team that removed and replaced our fence was top-notch. They were professional and took into account our concerns regarding our dog and young child. Materials were handled well and all residue was removed at the end of the job. The gates are wonderful--work well, look beautiful, and keep our toddler in the back yard! We've received complements from neighbors on all sides. About two days after the fence was installed, we discovered an old fence post that had not been fully removed. We called the office; they were quick to respond to our request and it was taken care immediately. I recommend them without reservation ... great crew and great fence!

The only caution I would give is to be aware of the strong sales pitch during the free estimate. We were ultimately satsified with the materials and price offered and decided to hire the company. The fence was installed in one day and the install was scheduled very quickly and we did not have to wait weeks or months. Fence looks excellent still and meets my expectations. The install crew was very nice and efficient.

He went through everything and made sure that I understood all aspects of the project. Their price was too high, but he was so nice.

Sales man Bill was very professional and informative. He even accepted competitior coupon of 20% off. However, after initially making our selection to hire Fence & Deck Depot for our project, and phoned Bill, he said that he would email us some information the next day to get the ball rolling on finance options. He did not follow through and in the meantime we intertained one last company for our fencing project and they offered a better quality wood and beat the proposed price from Fence & Deck Depot. We decided to go with another company for our project needs. 7/13/12 In response to Richard Lusa at Fence & Deck Depot dated 6/5/12: On the evening of 5/23 when I spoke to Mr. Page, he said that he would forward us the finance paperwork the next day 5/24. In the early morning of 5/24, I emailed Mr. Page copy of his proposal to us and a copy of the competitors coupon, just for reference support for Mr. Page. We did not receive the financial documents on 5/24 and on the same eveining of 5/24, we decided to entertain another company's bid. I emailed Mr. Page on the very evening of 5/24, advising of our change to go with another company. It wasn't until 5/25 at 1:08pm that I heard from Mr. Page, where he emailed me the financial documents we requested on 5/23. So, for not following through with what Mr. Page said he would do, is why we decided to go with another company. We were very anxtious to get this project rolling and didn't want to take a gamble that Mr. Page's oversight is a reflection of what we could possibly be dealing with when it's time to start the project. I havre also corrected my scoring to match my review.

Although I think their prices should be about 15% lower, from start to finish, we are pleased.

Prior to selecting the Fence & Deck Co., we had received estimates from 6 different companies around St. Louis. By far, the Fence & Deck Co. was the least expensive & the most responsive to our needs. In fact, the Fence & Deck Co, was 5,000.00 dollars less than Chesterfield Fence for a comparable item (we were also unimpressed by the service from the Chesterfield company, they told us that they "did not need competitive pricing because their business spoke for itself"--well, they lost our business). We ended up buying a black aluminum fence from the Fence & Deck Co. The rep., Mike, was knowledgeable, honest, & very easy to work with. They were also prompt in their service--in fact, they called to see if they could install the fence on Dec. 23 & since it was approaching a holiday, the put 2 teams on the project (we have a 1/4 acre lot so it was impressive that the job was finished in about 3 hours). The crews who performed the job were professional & we love the result. In fact, our fence was installed better (straighter & with less concrete overflow) than our neighbor's fence & they spent almost twice as much at a competitor's business.We are very happy with their company & would use it again. We have already recommended it to others & will continue to do so.

It was the worst experience I have ever had dealing with a company. Their people just do not know what they are doing!

Bill Page, the estimator, was timely with meeting, estimation sent and approximate scheduled date. Company called witihin a week after contract signed for scheduled week and the day before to confirm. 3 workers were timely, polite and efficient. Work was performed as agreed upon and completed the same day. I will use them again for my 6' privacy fence and will recommend them to friends, neighbors. I contracted with them to also stain the fence and haul away old. Everything was completed, as per contract.

Bill Page came out and gave us a very competitive estimate. We were scheduled to have the fence installed some 4 weeks out, but when we explained that we were concerned about the safety issues of the old fence and the pool, Bill was able to "expedite" installation. Four installers showed up on time and were very professional. They had some obstacles, like tree trunks, to deal with, but they were able to complete the entire job in two days. The installers were friendly and kept their work areas clean. We are really very happy with the results. Dealing with Bill was a pleasure and the installers did a great job!

They showed up to do the install without advance notification. Thankfully we had out of town family to be there if anything came up. Two guys did the entire job in one day. They finished up right before I got home from work. They show my son how to work the gate locks and provided instructions as to when to remove the blocks.

The estimate we received, though higher than I originally expected, was competetive with other established deck companies for the scope of work to be done. The work was timely completed, even though the workmen were working under a unusually brutal hot St. Louis summer. The workmen arrived when scheduled, were pleasant, careful with our belongings, and considerate of our pet. They cleaned up their debris and scrap every day before they left. As with any remodeling project, there were a few items which I felt were not quite what I wanted. When I pointed my concerns out, immediate steps were taken to meet with my expectations. The deck foreman, Duane, was particularly helpful. He was truly professional, kept us informed of the progress, the projected completion date, and made sure the completed project met all our expectations. The owner of the company, Richard, assisted us in filing an insurance claim for the damage done to our old deck, by writing a detailed letter to our insurance company outlining what was needed to be done to make sure the new deck surface looked good. Shortly after installation we had a small stain problem appear (our fault) on the deck which they took care of right away, without charge. I would recommend this company to friends or family.

Everything went well for the most part. The crew arrived much earlier in the morning than we had hoped, due to the hot weather. The work was finished within 5 hours and they did an excellent job. My only concern was it was very difficult to understand the thick accent of the foreman. Besides that, everything was perfect. I spoke to the receptionist at the office on the phone and was able to pay for the service via credit card through her. Very painless!!
