I called asking for a bid and an appointment was set at a time I designated as convenient. Leaf Filter sent a very courteous, knowledgeable, and professional sales person (Kirk) to demo and describe their gutter protection system. He arrived at the scheduled time and delivered a nice presentation. I had bids for three different systems and this was the one I most preferred. Even with the discounts Kirk was able to offer, the price was somewhat higher than the other two systems. However, I felt the product was the best choice for our home based on reviewing it in person and in consumer publications. Kirk arranged to have the system installed within a week, checked to make sure the installation had gone well, and reassured me that the lifetime warranty would always be in place and any issues would be addressed. Both of the other companies that bid were rated highly on Angie's List so it was a difficult decision that was ultimately based on my perception of the product.

This review is a combination of the following factors: B for product quality F for the sales staff B for installation: initially a problem, but they returned to fix it Let me start with the product quality. Original review: Consumer Reports rates LeafFilter as the best, and after seeing samples of the competing products, it seemed like clearly a winner. The surgical-grade mesh doesn’t let anything through. The installation goes underneath shingles so it doesn’t void roof warranties, and in our case for a brand new roof. Really outstanding. We also got an estimate from Gutterglove Pro, which is another product of comparable quality according to Consumer Reports, and LeafFilter seemed better. Update one year later: We get a lot of build-up that blocks the filter at the seams where pieces of the filter come together. This kind of defeats the purpose of having a gutter guard at those locations. Consumer Reports gave this their top rating, but their testing probably didn't include installing multiple pieces with caulk at the edges, or leaving up the product for a year. The rub: Our salesperson Tim Byrne was a nightmare. When he first came to our house, he had that slick salesperson style. For example, he kept looking around and commenting on how expensive things were in our home. When I told him that we were nonetheless cost sensitive about his product, he started teasing me about whether there were soup kitchens nearby to feed my family. He actually repeated that joke several times. After the whole routine where he spent a lot of time talking to his manager on the phone while we waited, he proposed a price. Actually, it was a good price and less than what Consumer Reports had listed. I asked if I accepted the offer when he could have it installed (water was dripping down our brick wall, and we needed gutter guards and tuck pointing asap). He said early the next week, and so we both signed the offer and he wrote on the contract to target but not guarantee early next week. Well, the next week comes and nearly goes and we played phone tag until finally on Thursday evening he calls to say “we have a problem”: the price he extended was too low. He said that it was a big job and he could get in trouble to use that much material for that low price. I reminded him that we had a signed contract. The best part: then he asked if I expected him to lie to his superiors about how much material was being used, and accused me of being unethical if I didn’t pay a new higher price. I said of course I did not expect him to lie to anyone, and asked if he had not been authorized to extend a contract. He said that he was authorized, but that afterwards they found that the offered price did not reflect the measurements. He said that he returned to our property several times because he couldn’t get a good measurement the first time because it was drizzling. (Actually, his initial measurement was exactly the same as the other estimator’s measurement.) He asked for about $400 more than the contract price we had signed. The next morning I called Leaf Filter corporate, and asked whether it was their policy to change the prices on signed contracts after the fact, and to allow their salespeople to walk around customers’ properties unannounced. They said they were concerned about this. Shortly after that, Tim called me and said it was all just a misunderstanding, and he meant that he “revisited” the property in his notes, and did not actually return in person. (I said that sounded odd because he referred to taking new measurements, but let it go.) We agreed to raise the price half of what he originally asked, about a $200 increase instead of about the $400 increase he had wanted, and to have the job done asap. The installation was a problem. First, they made a huge mess on my wooden deck that they never cleaned. The mess consisted of such small pieces of waste material that it was hard for my handyman to clean it. Second, out of a second-floor window that overlooks a 1.5-story addition, I could see that the corners were soldiered differently from each other and one had a gap at the edges. I called Tim and he had someone come back to fix this. That person, to his credit, spent about 3 hours going over every inch of the installation. That was great, but it would be nice to get that level of quality without the customer happening to be above a roof line to notice. All in all, I am not sure that would buy the product again. If you do, let me suggest overseeing the installation process carefully and asking for a different salesperson than Tim.

We have been very pleased with their work. There has not been any clogging and it is a good system. They came the next day. There was one issue with the service. The man who did the down spouts did not do it properly. However, I called and they came back right away to address the problem. They were very professional and the service was good.

The man was prompt. One man completed the work and he did the work very quickly. The service was good. We had one problem with water coming out really fast from one of the gutters. However, they came out and fixed it right away. We have no complaints with the service.

We negotiated a price and they agreed. They subcontracted the work but the subcontractor's work was very shoddy. I have called three different times to make repairs. They fixed the issues but I was not pleased with the work.

The service was good. The guys were very personable. I mailed something to them to get my warranty on the work. They have yet to mail me my warranty.

I had met a representative of Leaf Filter at a street fair where they had an exhibit of the services they provide. This occurred approximately on June 9th 2013. I had given the rep my card and he said that someone would contact me about coming to my home to provide me with an estimate. Well, a representative did call and come to provide me with an estimate after looking over what I needed to have done on my roof. The date was June 10. The representative made me an offer to have the work done the following day which took me by surprise. I was thinking that I would be placed on a waiting list and that it would take a few weeks at the minimum before they could begin. Because of my hesitancy the representative give me a lower bid hoping to get me to say yes to having the work start the following day which I agreed. On June 12th the worker from Leaf Filter showed up prepared to get on the roof to install the gutter protection system. The immediate problem was that the ladder he brought to get to the roof was too short. But to save time I allowed him to use the ladder I had that would get him on the roof. He began the work immediately and was completed in a few hours as scheduled. The worker cleaned up the area and I paid him the 1200.00 as agreed to on the contract. I have had the gutter protection system for over a month now and it has rained several times during this period. The system appears to be working quite well as promised.

The mesh is suppose to keep them from needing to clean the gutters. They said if I see water leaking to let them know and they would come fix it at no charge.

Overall good experience with the company and the installers. Their price defitely involves paying a premium over the other existing products on the market, and thus far we have not had a true test of effectiveness due to limited rainfall.

I saw the Leaf Filter at the Home and Garden Show and was really impressed. I thought it looked like a gutter cover I had never seen before and one that might just actually work. I signed up for a rep to come see my home, which he promptly did. He explained everything and it took a bit of negotiating, but we settled on a price. Bob, the project manager, came out and we went over everything that would be needed. He even ordered special brass brackets and screws because my gutters were copper. When the installer came, he got to work. He knew what he was doing, but he pointed out to me that my gutters, which were 90 years old, were so bent up that it was going to be very difficult to attach the Leaf Filter properly. He was able to do some of the newer gutters on an addition, but then we halted the job while I decided what to do about the old gutters. I finally got 4 bids for new gutters. Bob at Leaf Filter was very patient and came out to talk about Leaf Filter doing the gutters. He was extremely nice, informative and easy to work with. They gave me a very good price for new gutters and I accepted their offer. Then I tried to decide whether to go with 6 inch gutters or the size of my original gutters which were 5 inch. Several different guys from Leaf Filter gave me periodic friendly calls to see if I knew what I wanted to do. When I finally explained to Aaron that I couldn't decide which size to go with, he came right over and helped me decide. I had the best gutter installers who also installed the filter. It has been at least a month since then and it has been raining for the past several days now. I feel great knowing that NOTHING but water is going into my gutters and down the drain. Overall, it was a very good experience. I wish all jobs went as well as this one. Thank you Leaf Filter. I believe when you say that customer satisfaction is your highest priority. I was able to take my old copper gutters to a metal buyer and sell them for $530, which was the topper for this project!
