They were wonderful. The young man who came and did the estimate was right on what it would cost. They were very clean and prompt when they came and did the insulation. They gave us other options to save money and insulated other way in addition to what they did. They cleaned up after themselves.

From the estimate to the actual work, Hayes Insulation was very professional. Zack gave me various options on bringing my attic space up to R-40. When the installers came they were on time, explained what they were going to do and approximatley how long they would be. They cleaned up after themselves, and had me inspect the work to make sure I was satisfied.

The guy showed up about 5 min before scheduled which was fine with me. He came in and began to look around. He really knew what he was looking for. He asked me questions about the house that I had not even thought of (we had only lived there for 6 months). He began telling me what things I could do immediately to improve my home's energy efficiency. He was very nice and joked around with me a little. He did a thorough walk through including climbing up into the attic and looking @ the crawl space through the access hole (he didn't actually go down there, which was fine with me). I'm sure he got a good idea of what he was looking for by doing what he did. I was impressed with the quotes.
Description of Work: The guy came out and did a walk through evaluation of my home's energy efficiency. He sent me a quote for services the company could perform to increase my home's energy efficiency. This was mainly adding insulation to the attic, crawl space & walls.

It went well. They showed up as scheduled. The workers were polite and helpful. One invited me to come up to the attic with him so I could see exactly what the problems were and what was being done to address them. The entire job lasted 3-4 hours and they left without any significant mess. The entire house, particularly the second level, is noticeably warmer and more comfortable. As a result of the work, I'll probably be able to lower the thermostat a degree or two. I would guess I'll recoup the costs of the work within a few years. I plan to have them back sometime later this year to insulate the garage.
Description of Work: I first had them do a free home energy evaluation walk-through before scheduling any work. This was much more extensive than I would have thought I could get for what I paid. The representative probably spent 1.5 hours in the house and climbed through the attic. They sealed the duct work and recessed lighting fixtures in the attic and also blew in additional insulation. They also gave me some suggestions and advice on managing the vents on the lower level to help increase the airflow in the second story, which was unusually cold.

I called for an appointment, based on Angie's list recommendations and the free consultation coupon from Angie's list. I got a call back a day or so later and Mike scheduled a time to come by the house. He arrived promptly as scheduled. He was very thorough in going through each room of the house, pointing out issues with my HVAC vents as well as some basic principles on how my HVAC system should operate. He pointed out simple, cheap ways that I could improve the efficiency of the system I had including caulking holes and seams in duct work and adjusting the vents to better direct air flow into the occupied rooms of the house. Mike spent considerable time in my unfinished basement not just telling but showing me, with the help of a smoke stick, the holes and gaps in my duct work and where the caulking would help. He also spent time showing me how I could cheaply add some insulation to areas of my unfinished basement to improve the energy efficiency. Finally, he climbed up into my attic and did a quick inspection, noting that the job done wasn't bad, but there was some considerable room for improvement with some blown cellulose insulation as well as more meticulous attention to caniser lights and ducts in the attic. He also climbed up on a ladder to inspect a soffit in the master bedroom and discovered that it was not finished properly, further degrading the energy efficiency of the home. In short, Mike was prompt, friendly, professional, thorough, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful.

We had several bids from other companies ranging from $890.00 to $3100.00 to insulate the attic of our home. Hayes Company was the only company that offered a solution on how to insulate over the can lights. Other companies suggested tube around the lights, leaving the insulation away from the lights, and they basically did not want to address the light issue. Zak Hayes suggested covering the can lights with premade covers then insulating over them. This would allow air space around the lights to prevent fire issues and allow for a complete blanket of insulation in our attic.
Description of Work: Insulate the attic of a 45+ year old split level home to R-38 and provide a solution of how to best insulate 15 can lights.

As you can see from the above description, the job went very well. I found the company through Angie's List. I made an initial contact by email and they responded within a couple of days by phone. All appointments were kept on time. The original estimate required some guessing about the routing of lines, hidden behind existing insulation, so it was not a criticism that the actual work turned out to be less demanding than the original estimate. The installation crew was receptive to my request for explanation, before actually doing the work. When they discovered that the pipes were in an easy location to protect, they were honest about telling me that and called for a revised price. They were clean and unobtrusive while they worked and cleaned up very nicely at the end. I thought their original price was a little high, but that was due to a difference in the amount of work I thought was needed and the work they thought was needed. When the installation crew had a chance to open up the area and see the real requirement, I was very pleased with the final price.
Description of Work: Upgraded freeze protection for water supply lines to an upstairs bathroom which had problems with freezing in extreme cold periods in the winter. An estimator came out within 1 1/2 weeks of my call to look at the job. they prepared an estimate and scheduled the work. The crew arrived right on time as promised. They looked over the work and concluded that the scope was not as large as originally estimated and called to have a revised price quoted. The crew was very pleasant and obviously knowledgeable. They installed rigid Styrofoam between joists to block air incursion and increase insulation value where the pipes were located. The new blocks were sealed with expanding foam. They observed that the exposed end of the bathtub in the attic space was not properly insulated and corrected that problem, as well as a poorly insulated outside corner on a knee wall for the adjoining bedroom. The entire job took 2 hours. The original estimate was $540 but they reduced the price to $300, due to the smaller amount of work actually required, compared to the initial estimate. The owner, estimator and installers were all very congenial while remaining professional. They offered me advice on an additional improvement which I can easily do myself (saving an additional $100). I would recommend them.

If there is one man who knows insulation and how to do it correctly as well as what you need to do to your home to make it more efficient that man would be Mike O'Connell. He gave my husband and I phenomenal tips as to how to improve our heating and cooling. Instead of charging us $900 to redo all of our duct work on our heating system he told us how we could do it ourselves (for a measly $100 in materials) and improve the quality of the air output (We can't believe the difference it has made). Unfortunately, the 2nd story of our house was not as cheap or as easy to fix. Our 2nd story didn't have any insulation (Lucky us!). Mike and his team blew the insulation in from the eve's of our roof (we have a Mansourd Roof). The project took 2 days. The guys were very respectful of our home and property. There were a few 'pops' that occurred in our walls but they were immediately fixed and repainted. Mike will not be happy till you are. Unbelievable men with honesty and integrity.

In a word, Mike is AMAZING. He's very personable & friendly, and didn't make me feel foolish about the "common sense" things that he pointed out. He didn't charge me anything for the consultation, and I learned so much what he showed me made a NOTICEABLE difference in my comfort in the home, without spending a dime. He spent a lot of time explaining things to me & has an awesome enthusiasm for his work. This guy is doing what he loves to do! When I am ready to do insulating, he will be the only one I call. I received his name not only from Angie's List, but also from a friend for whom he performed insulating work. Her home is older & her upstairs used to be so drafty in the winter that she slept downstairs in the guest bedroom. Now she's able to enjoy the whole house year-round.
Description of Work: Mike O'Connell came to my house in August 2007 (and came back for a followup in November 2007) to give me an estimate on blown insulation, but he did much more than that. Mike educated me about many things that were contributing to my house being too hot in the summer, and too cold in the winter. He recommended that I install a cover for my attic fan, showed me how to properly set the dampers in my basement to heat & cool efficiently (he even found a 3rd damper that I didn't know existed, that was about 98% hidden by a finished wall), and how to properly orient & modify my vent covers so they'd work to maximum advantage.

We were very pleased with the experience overall. Our crew, (Jim, Chris and Sam) were on here at 7:30am on the scheduled day and ready to work. They were also very patient with me, starting their work around me while I finished the last of the demolishing, (this was the job from heck). Their work continued through lunch until 6:00pm that night to complete the exterior work. They were very dedicated to completing the work that day. The next morning they applied the insulation on the interior basement studs. I was impressed that they had a representative there from Icyene who was observing and training on a new product. I understand the installers have been installing Icynene for over 10 yrs and are fully certified by the manufacturer. We couldnt have been happier with the work and cordial professionalism of our work crew.
Description of Work: Applies Icynene foam insulation to interior basement and exterior (up to 2 1/2 stories high) walls that I exposed on my house. We removed siding to remove and repair rot, mold and fungus from bad work done before we bought our house. The insulation crew set up scaffolding as well as plastic to protect other parts of the house and applied the Icynene foam, then trimmed it back to flush with studs. They also covered my exterior walls with plastic after the application so I would have time to re-sheath and side the house. They also cleaned up the job site to my satisfaction upon completion.

All the work went very well. We had taken most of the furnishings from the second floor, so access to the walls and ceiling was easy. Mike allowed a discount if I would do some of the work - drilling holes, etc., so I got to have some of the fun, too. The crew cleaned as they went and put a barrier on the stairs and floor covering on the first floor, so the house stayed pretty clean through the process. They put plugs in the holes, so patching up wasn't too hard.
Description of Work: Insulated the second floor walls and roof of Brookside bungalow. The insulation was blown in from the inside. Most areas were accessed by 2 1/2" and 4" holes. Larger areas required cutting holes for workers to get through. All the work was done carefully and thoroughly.

After being ignored by several companies, this company promptly responded. For the estimate, he spent about an hour looking over the home and also pointed out where we could improve energy efficiency in the home (on our own). He gave us an estimate of $1,700. We agreed. Within a week, crews showed up on time to work. The job was done within a few hours. The job went easier than expected, so they dropped the price by $500. Now that we have puttied and painted the walls, you can't tell where the holes are. The insulation job made a noticeable difference in the house. It's no longer drafty and during the summer we hardly had to use any A/C! I think we will save a lot of money in the long run and I've very pleased with the job. I would definitely recommend this company because they seem honest and genuinely interested in helping you. They'll sell you only what you need and tell you what you can do on your own to save money. Great company!
Description of Work: We own a 1949 three-bedroom, one bathroom ranch near downtown Overland Park. When we bought the home earlier last summer it had no insulation in the walls! The home was drafty and heated up quickly every day. We hired the Insulating Professionals to to fill our walls with insulation. Because we have aluminum siding, the work had to be done from the inside by drilling 4 in and 2 inch holes between each stud to fill with siding. We choose cellulose for economics and to prevent infestations caused by fiberglass. The company plugged each hole with Styrofoam plugs. Although they can putty the walls, we did it ourselves to save money. They also offer to clean up after the job, but we told them not to vacuum since our entire house was a mess with construction work and we hadn't moved in yet.

Just a very solid experience. TIP was far from the least expensive company we received bids from. But Mike O'Connell's knowledge was so obvious that I just felt it was a no-brainer to choose TIP. They did the work over the course of a few days and his crew was always clean, professional and efficient. The difference with the added insulation was clear within days after installation and I'm looking forward to seeing its effect during the winter months.
