Roof & Home Exterior Repair Specialist

During wind storm, (Circa beginning of September 2011) A tree Branch broke off and damaged the shingles on the corner of my roof. I researched Angie's list for roofing companies. Read all the reports and feedback on the top rated companies. I chose Roof and home exterior Repair Specialist because: 1. This company was an Angie's list Super Service Award winner. 2. Had very high ratings, and the only "F" ratings were during a family crisis that was beyond Chris's control back in 2009 or else was someone whining about not getting contacted 'right on time'. I didn't care about that...what I do care about is the quality of the repair! All comments about the quality of work were excellent. 3. Chris is a REPAIR specialist only...Does not do complete roof tear out and replacement-concentrates on roof/area repair, just what I needed. 3. Does not subcontract, does the work and/or inspects the work himself, 4. Uses legal / US CITIZENS to do the work! 5. I liked what Chris said on the phone when we discussed my repair issues. 6 . I didn’t have time to call a bunch of companies and get numerous estimates etc. and then ‘pick one’ for a job that would be about $250.00. I wanted to get the right company, the first time, and be assured the job was done right. Chris and his team came as promised, did a great job repairing the shingles (the tar-paper or tar coating has not 'laid' down yet, but Chris says this will occur as the roof gets warm enough to melt the tar (stuff) and it will flatten out. He did the job at (in my opinion) was a very reasonable price. If you have a repairs needed on your roof, I would call ROOF & HOME EXTERIOR REPAIR SPECIALIST....

Chris and his team did an excellent job on our recent repairs. I was very satisfied with all phases of the project including his prompt response, willingness to work with my difficult schedule, excellent communication and high quality work. If every tradesman held himself to the same high standard as Chris, Angie's List would be out of business. I give him my highest possible recommendation.

I called him on a Tuesday and I got confused. I put that he was going to call me about 2 or 3pm that day. I also put that he was going to come on Wednesday. It was about 5:30pm on Tuesday and I called him and he was very nice about my confusion and we kept the original appointment he had down for the following day. He was real relaxed and casual on the phone. I was really excited and impressed that he was able to come out the following day. He did call earlier than our set up appointment but I could not do that. I had another contractor coming out to do another job. I was pleased he offered and I felt bad I couldn't accommodate that. I had just came in from getting the mail, shut the garage door, and gotten upstairs. The dogs had then started barking. I then was trying to put the dogs up and I yelled to let him know to please wait. I had told him I would need a couple minutes to get to the door when I had spoken to him. He waited maybe about 2 minutes and I was trying to get to the door but he was gone in a flash. I even have a sign on my door that I am slow walking. I was upset and I called him on the phone. He said to me that I can't do the job it's just too big. He also said the rang the doorbell several times and waited several minutes. I know that is a lie. I was standing right there trying to put my dog gate up. That was all he explained. I was just speechless. I called him a second time and I asked him I am suppose to call Angie's List to give a report what should I say. He then tried to tell me he waited 15 minutes. I had just come in from being out side so I knew that was another lie. He again said the job was too big. He said he does not do continuous guttering. I said if you would have waited we could have discussed this. Had he been more professional and waited I would have had him look at the hole for the raccoons we've been having problems with. I didn't even bother to mention that to him because at that point I didn't want him to come back. In my opinion it was not very professional to just leave and not wait and talk to me face to face. I would maybe recommend him to some people but he would come with a BIG warning.

Chris was very responsive and came out to do an estimate. We needed some roof repair work and some repairs around our front door where a previous contractor had totally botched the job. Chris did a wonderful job on identifying out roof leak and fixing it (which also fixed our leaky basement as the water had been coming in through the roof and down through the wall). He also tore out the bad repair job from around the front door, and replaced the bad wood with concrete. It looked wonderful and I haven't had any problems with the work. Chris will now be my go-to guy for exterior house repair.

I would never use this roofer for anything. In June, 2010 I went on Angie's List and located 5 roofers, checked their references, went with the ones that didn't use subcontractors and contacted them to give me estimates for my leaking roof. Out of all of them, I went with Chris Owen even though he was the most expensive as he had given me a list of things that needed to be done, confirmed by 3 different roofers. While it took a while to get the work done, I understood he had a family emergency and I was fine with the delay. I supplied the shingles as I had some left. After the work was completed, I was still having a leaking problem, one window was still leaking and the water was running over the gutter directly in front of my front door. I called Chris and was told he'd get out to correct the remaining problems soon, but he was working up north and it would be some time before he could be here. After 3 more calls and quite a bit of time, they came out and repaired the remaining problems, so I thought. About November, I got out to clean my gutters and what I saw horrified me. The drip edge had never been replaced per the estimate, a piece of tin had been placed over the leaking windows edge and nailed into place. The facia boards that he told me needed to be raised had not been raised nor repaired. The lower shingles had been caulked to the roof and drip edging and in some places the shingles had been nailed down with a nail in the middle of each shingle a few inches from the edge. At this point I still have a two leaks that I've found. They were clean and efficient. English was not the workers? first language so there was a spokesperson that I spoke with. The person that came out for the bid was personable and seemed to be honest, and he provided the best bid that I got. The workers were kind and did a good job. Everything is excellent so far and I haven?t had any problems.

Our sunporch started leaking - a lot - every time it rained. Found Chris Owen on Angies' List. Chris came out promptly and inspected the roof. He told us me what in his judgment was likely causing the problem, but said he couldn't be certain without taking up more of the roofing. He gave us the option of patching the likely problem or replacing the roof, which of course would be considerably more expensive. He was clear there was a chance the patch wouldn't be enough and that we might have to replace the roof anyway. We opted to trust his judgment and experience and authorized the less-expensive repair. He patched two seams in the roof covering and patched around the perimeter. The repair was successful: we've had no leaks in the six months since. One thing was unusual, but fine with us: we never met Chris. My wife and I both work, and often long hours. We dealt with Chris entirely by phone and email. He inspected the roof when he promised, we discussed his recommendations by phone; he emailed he written estimate; we authorize the work by phone; he told us when he was available to do the job; he got it done then emaied his invoice; we inspected the work - or at least could see that work had been done; we paid the invoice. Part of the time we were even out of town. I was impressed he was willing to do the job on our word - I trusted he'd do what he promised and do it well. That mutual trust paid off with a job well done, with the least possible hassle for us as busy homeowners.

In the process of helping a family member sell her home; the inspector for the buyer noted several areas on the roof where shingles were not sealed down properly, or were damaged. Chris has done work for us before, so he was the first and only person I called to help; he answered my call immediately, got out to the house the next day and called me with his opinion of what needed to be done and what it would cost. Despite a stretch of less than ideal weather, Chris completed the job quickly and professionally. My two experiences with him have been top notch!

I saw that some people have recently given him a bad score because he was "unresponsive." It did take a while between when he did my estimate to when the repair work happened, but that was because his father and brother died almost back to back. So, while some people might have felt justifiably frustrated by his lack of responsiveness, I would give him a shot considering what he was going through in October and November. He did quality work, was easy and nice to work with and I felt the price was more than fair.

Chris was very good about answering and returning calls. However, the problem came when he was not able to start the job within the agreed timeframe. Our job was delayed twice and still was not done three weeks after we gave him the go ahead. He seemed to get annoyed with me when I called to ask when the job would actually get done. In the end I had to call another roofer who was able to get to the job in three days.

I had an insurance adjuster come out 9/27 to review the damage from the 9/18 storm. He told me the whole roof, along with the decking under the shingles needed to be replaced. I called Chris back to have him give me an estimate and tell him the other repairs wouldn't be needed. He apologized that he was so busy after the storm that he wouldn't be able to do the work for a couple months. He then told me that he wouldn't charge me for the work he'd already done in replacing the shingles. Thanks Chris!

Mr. Owen identified and repaired a leak in our 2 year old roof. The leak was really hard to find, but Mr. Owen was true to his warranty and came back as many times as it took to get the job done, and done right. We were so impressed and pleased with his work that we paid a bit extra in appreciation for his service. I would gladly recommend Mr. Owen for any roofing need.

He provided a reasonable quote and did a great job on my roof! His bid may have been slightly higher, but it was worth it for his expertise. He was a very nice guy overall!

Excellent. I have moss growing in two areas of my roof. I wanted to have it looked at along with the overall health of my roof. After checking out my roof, Chris told me that there was no need to amend it as it was not hurting the roof at all. Recommended I trim back a tree away from one area of the roof. He also said my roof was in perfect condition and that it was done very well which was a relief to me. He was honest, helpful, and trustworthy. He also would not let me pay him for his time. I was very grateful to find someone like him - you don't always find honest people in the home repair business. I would not hesitate to have him do work for me if I ever need it in the future. He's one of the good ones.

Chris is outstanding. He was the 3rd (and thankfully final) specialist we had work on our roof. He corrected the mistakes from previous contractors and found additional issues that others ignored. Chris is just who you want working on your roof -- skilled, experienced, trustworthy, reliable. Love the 1-year guarantee. He's in high-demand and has to work around the weather, so call right away.

Considering how rainy the last few weeks have been, I am very pleased with how responsive Chris was in returning my phone calls and doing the work. He did have to come out twice when another leak was discovered, but he came out the same day I called and did not charge me for the second visit. It was also nice being able to do everything over the phone. Chris worked with my renters which made it very easy for me. Would definitely use Chris again and recommend him to others.

Leaks inside ceiling of our multi-storied house began showing up after many rains. Some damage was caused by hail, some by previously badly installed skylights, and some by continuously clogged gutters. Called Chris Owens and several other contractors. Chris was extremely polite & responsive. He only does roof repairs, not new roofing. I felt like he really knew his business. His bid was second to the lowest I got, but I relied on my gut feeling as far as to his genuineness and integrity to choose Chris to do the job. Was very pleased. I like his guarantee. His work is warrantied for 1 year against any leaks. Other's warranties are for 6 months. Had gutter covers installed. Our house has a large perimeter with high roof-line in some places. I love the new gutter covers so far! No gutter worries anymore!

Chris returned call in less than one day and did interior inspection immediately. Because of ice on roof, could not inspect exterior for a few more days, which was fine with us as too dangerous to be on roof anyway. Chris and Robert did inspection as soon as ice melted (less than a week), explained the damage, repairs needed, and costs. Performed repairs in less than another week and did so in less than one day! Both gentlemen were courteous, professional, and a pleasure to work with. Their integrity was obvious from the start. Even gave us a one-year guarantee! Will definitely use this Company in the future for any roofing/exterior repairs we may need.

My experience with Chris was mixed. Initially he was very prompt and professional. But the quality of the work done was very poor. For example, Chris and his crew were supposed to paint some bare wood before installing a new section of gutter. They painted the wood with finish paint but did not prime it first. This is a very basic but important mistake--you must always prime bare wood--and I can expect to have peeling problems. I also asked him to repair some areas of wood rot on the trim (fascia, rake and soffit), which he advertises as a specialty. Instead of replacing the wood he covered the rotten sections with pieces of sheet metal and painted the metal. Not only is that not a repair it is guaranteed to make the problem worse because it will trap moisture and make the rotting worse. I now have to hire someone to rip that off and do the repair correctly. The repairs to the existing gutters were also not done correctly. Most of the problems with the existing gutters will still there when they finished. I called Chris to come back and fix the problems with the gutters and he said he would come to fix them but did not show. I had to call him again a few weeks later to get him to come back and complete the repairs on the gutters. Overall I feel like this contractor was pleasant to work with, and charged a reasonable price for the work to be done, but the quality of the work was very poor. I am currently looking for a contractor to come and re-do a lot of what I paid this contractor to do.

I had called Chris in early summer of 2009 to get an estimate after lightning shattered a neighbors tree and it partly fell on my house. He promptly gave me an estimate, but I wasn't able to have him do the work until the fall. We had a little miscommunication due to the time between estimate and work, but Chris more than made up for it. He is truly a nice guy who is concerned about making the customer happy. I will hire him again.

Chris responded to my request for an estimate within one day, and came in with a detailed and very reasonable estimate in comparison to the others I received. He showed up within a week at the time he promised and completed the work that day. He explained everything to me and he fixed some additional problems without any additional charge. He provided a one year guarantee against leaks. It has been over a month and we have had several very, very heavy rain-storms. The leaks have remained bone dry. I was very impressed and have added him to my favorites. He will be my first call for any roofing issues in the future.

I thought they were very professional and experienced in the work they did. They provided scaffolding prof, and secured their work area, so that their work would not be a hazard to themselves or any one else. I liked their price and thought it was worth the quality of work they did. I would hire this company again in the future.
