They said we probably had a leak but they did not do a leak check and felt the freon recharge and the changed part would solve our problem. The service did not work at all. When we called for them to come back out, they said we'd have to pay another service call and also pay for a leak check. Every other vendor we've called to come out guarantees their work on the first service call. Expensive lesson learned. While Mr. Jones indicated he would try to contact us, we never heard from him.
Description of Work: They changed a capacitor on our airconditioner and also recharged our freon.

I am sorry this happened. It is our company policy to return for a leak check with no second service call charge once we have been to a home and return within a reasonable time frame. There must have been an error on our part and for that I sincereley apologize. I will attempt to contact the member to remedy the situation. If anyone has a problem with any of our services, I invite them to contact me personally. My name is Bill Jones. I am the Operations Manager and I can be reached at 816-943-8400. Thank you.

The crew arrived on time, with the correct equipment, and started work right away. Installation was quick and they answered our questions before, during and after installation. They left the house just as they found it; no cleanup on our part. Painless.
Description of Work: We chose Midwest to purchase and install a replacement heat pump. We worked with Bob Epps, who did a nice job of helping us evaluate our alternatives and answering our many questions. We received proposals from two other installers but chose Midwest because they offered a competitive price, were responsive and provided us good information to help us with our decision. The installers were prompt, polite, and pleasant. They finished the work in a reasonable amount of time (half a day) and cleaned up well. They explained how the system worked and answered questions regarding the operation of the unit. I was very pleased with the whole experience and also how the A/C unit has been working since the installation. I would definitely recommend this company for HVAC work.

We've been using Midwest Heating & Cooling for the past three years without complaint. However, this time I was very disappointed. I called to make an appointment and they gave me the standard arrival window of Noon - 4:00 p.m. I waited around the house during the entire timeframe. At 4:29 p.m., I finally received a call to say they were in the area and would arrive in another 10 minutes. Once he arrived, Scott was very courteous and professional. I was very disappointed to see a $10 charge on my bill as a fuel charge. I realize gas prices are high, but that's the cost of doing business when you are required to maintain a fleet of vehicles. Put that charge in your base cost or at least inform the customer that it will be added when they make the appointment. My time is very valuable yet I sat around for four and a half hours without so much as a courtesy call to say they would be late. Where's the compensation for my time?
Description of Work: Called for routine maintenance on our air conditioner. While examining the unit, it was discovered that the dual run capacitor was overheating and was replaced.

The overall experience went very well with no problems.
Description of Work: Tom DeBecker gave me an estimate on a heating and cooling system and also came out and checked on the workers during the day of installation. He explained the installation very well and the appropriate products to choose for my home. I purchased a new A/C unit, furnace and humidifier. I had two other estimates and Midwest gave a very reasonable price. The installers were prompt, polite, and pleasant to have in my home. They finished the work in a reasonable amount of time and cleaned up very well. They explained how the system worked and answered questions. I was very pleased with the whole experience and also how the A/C unit has been working since the installation. I would recommend this company for HVAC work.

In the process of looking to replace our AC/Heating units I spoke with Tom at Midwest HVAC. Midwest has done service for us over the last 10 years and we have been satisfied with the service. Unfortunately our system was only 10 years old and in need of replacing as it had too many things going wrong and it was undersized for our house. I had a very positive meeting with Tom and received a bid for a replacement system. We did not choose to use them for the replacement. Our decision had nothing to do with Midwest Heating or Tom but other factors. I have nothing but positive things to say for Tom and Midwest and would recommend them to others.

Called Midwest as a result of what Angies List customers had to say about this company. They were able to send a tech out the same day in 10 degree weather and the day after the 2/1/2011 blizzard. Their tech (Tim) did a good job of finding the problem in a short time and got the furnace up and running and only charged us for the service call. We were very happy with their service.

Contacted Midwest along with a few other companies. Had been using another larger company in the past. Tom D. was the estimator and did a great job explaining our needs and options. He was very informative and did not spend any time bad-mouthing the competition, as others did. He was very matter of fact about the whole process and not too high-pressure. He had communicated all the specifics to the installers, who did a great job and were courteous and helpful as well. Answered a bunch of my questions and did a great job on the whole process start to finish, including cleaning up after and disposing of the old equipment. I would definitely recommend them.

It was a good experience. The comfort consultant came the same day we called and provided an estimate within several hours. We confirmed the price and scheduled an installation date. The men arrived on time and removed the old furnace/installed the new one within several hours. They suggested we build a better pad for the AC so they came back a week later to install the AC. They were neat, professional and great to work with.

Everything went great. They finished in one day and have had no major problems. They did have one problem; they were unable to put a chimney liner in for venting due to our thick foundation. It did require a price increase but they had warned us about this beforehand that it was a possibility. He also gave us a good discount on the service. I would definitley use them again. Also, the price does not include the $850 instant discount we got through KCP&L since we had such an old and ineffecient AC. It also does not include the $1500 tax discount we will get for getting an energy effecient furnace. So after the tax rebate, total price will be $4,469.00.
Description of Work: We needed a new furnace/AC. The furnace was still in working condition so we had time to get estimates and make a good decision not based soley on availability. We received estimates from 3 companies all highly rated on Angies list and we felt Midwest was the best overall in regards to professionalism, price, knowledge, and who we "felt the most comfortable with". For the estimate, the serviceman was very professional and answered all my wifes questions (I was out of town so could not be there) and pointed out everything he would do and what needed to be done. He gave us a price estimate 1 day later. Approx. 1 week later, they came and installed a 95% effecient York furnace, humidifier, York A/C, digital thermostat.

They did a very good job. I have used them for quite a while. They were very good. I have a yearly contract with them for the annual maintenance of the two heating and cooling systems in my house. They would do two service calls a year for the price of $250. They would be coming in April 2011 for the spring service. They were very knowledgeable. I did not have to get them to come out. Once you have the maintenance contract, they would give you priority service. They knew what they were doing. If they came out to fix something, it would be fixed right on and they don't have to come back again.

Everything went very well. Excellent follow-ups - instructions on how thing worked and detailed explanation of the bill, rebates and tax credits. Excellent experience and I would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Very prompt and professional. Not only inspected what we already had but explained in detail what they would do regarding the installation. Explained fully the documents they would provide for tax credits and then informed us about rebates from local electric and gas companies which we were unaware of. $850 rebate from KCP&L and $250 rebate from Missouri Gas Energy. An unexpected and pleasant surprise.

Nice job once he got there, but he hadn't written down that he was to come between 11am and noon, so when I hadn't heard by 12:15, I called him and he said, oops, can't get there today due to an emergency hot water heater. Told him that wasn't a problem but he should have called me to let me know as I had plans that were depending on his being done by 1:00 pm. Came on time next day; knew exactly what to do and did a nice job. Charged me what he had quoted on the phone earlier, and didn't try to upsell anything else. In spite of the schedule snafu, I would use them again.

I used Midwest Heating and Cooling for years for annual check-ups and repairs and was very satisfied with the service. However, when my a/c went out this past summer, they didn't perform in their usual way. They missed appointments and we had communication problems in scheduling. The bid for the repair was given orally and seemed high. I ultimately went with a different company that made a sales call, wrote out the bids, compared options and saved several thousand dollars. The savings is not on an apples-to-apples comparison, but I understood what I needed, what the options were, and made my choice. Midwest was good about always sending the same service representative and I appreciated that and in the beginning of the relationship was prompt.

The A/C unit failed during 100 degree weather. Another company gave a bid but left the A/C unit in pieces when they were done. Midwest re-assembled the unit and got it running so it would offer some cooling over a hot weekend. At first we were only looking to replace the A/C unit but after the estimator explained the cost benefit of doing both the A/C and the furnace at the same time and the furnace was also nearing its life expectancy, we decided to replace the entire system. Midwest installed a new Lennox A/C unit and furnace the next week. We were completely satisfied with their work and professionalism.

They were very responsive, on time and fixed the unit when they said they would. Install took longer than expected but they honored the price quoted. Air conditioning was working when they left.
Description of Work: Air Conditioner coil ruptured. Coil had to be replaced. Unfortunately the coil required is no longer being made by the manufacturer (Trane) so a Lennox coil was installed. Size was a problem, (replacement coil was larger than original) but was "made" to fit. Air Conditioner was fixed and does work, but furnace now makes a mighty "bang" every time it kicks in.

The estimator was on time, very professional, spoke to me as a PERSON, not an idiot, and explained things completely. He also gave me the different options, and told me he COULD sell me a larger, more expensive system, but that I didn't need it. I was very appreciative of that and of all the information he gave to me. This was fabulous! The guys who came out were on time, SUPER quick, worked quietly and efficiently, and did a couple of extra things. They left the area downstairs by the furnace cleaner than when they arrived. Not only was it a wonderful experience at the site, the company also followed up quickly with all the paperwork necessary for us to get our energy rebates. All in all, I would hire them again, but I definitely hope I don't have to have them out anytime soon. I would recommend them to anyone anytime!

I cannot say enough positive things about this company and their employees. I am a lawyer and not easily impressed. As a single female I found it very difficult to be taken seriously by other compaines that provided bids and their bids were incommensurrate with my needs and available funds. Ken Duff of Midwest was extraordinarily helpful; honest and genuine. He educated me about the systems/requirements for stimulus qualification and told me about Angies' List so that I could check out other compaines as well as his. He provided me with references to other compaines he respected when I asked for the same. He was a total straight shooter. He assessed my needs and concerns and gave me the best quote for the best product. I did a lot of investigation and got a lot of bids as this is a fair amount of money to part with in anyone's book. This company far surpasses any of the others as far as quality and integrity. The installation team was quick; polite; very professional and instructive as to operating the system (Kevin and Jeremy). They had the whole system in w/in 6 hrs. Amanda, the individual who coordinated the appt's and paperwork was so helpful, kind and personable (plus she processed by Lennox rebate on the furnace--I didn't even have to do that myself). I feel very fortunate to have found such a stellar company. Their reputation is well deserved. I highly recommend them.

We used Angies List to identify several HVAC providers. Each was invited to take any measurements or readings they wanted in order to recommend the correct equipment. Unfortunately, there was a wide range in their estimates of our square footage, tonnage required and whether our existing ductwork was adequate. The folks at Midwest came back several times to insure that their calculations were correct. They got our business. Because of the avalanche of service calls they got when the temperature shot up, we were asked if they could take some of some elderly people who were without A/C and come back to finish. We agreed. Our new A/C was working before they left. They returned and finished the job. There was a small glitch with a room that stayed too hot. They returned immediately and corrected the issue by adjusting damners and adding a supply. No muss. No fuss. We are very happy with the results and would recommend Midwest to anyone. We feel we got the best overall value possible.

Perfect. I got what I wanted. My old system was 30 years old. The a/c was the size of a window unit and could not really cool. It used huge amounts of electricity. I got the KCPL "Checkme". My old unit was qualified for the $850 rebate. I also wanted to get the $1500 IRS tax rebate. I also wanted a manufacturer's rebate. I said, "I want the lowest priced system that will trigger all the rebates." FINALLY, I GOT IT ALL. I talked to and got bids from nearly every heating a/c company in the area, large and small, off and on for a year. I really disliked the salesmen. The first one I tried, another company, sent a salesman who stayed 2 hours and cried. I promise he did. Another, from yet another different company, was an arrogant fellow who intended to bully me. I appear to be a "little old lady" to some. He said he was "just doing what is best for me." Others could not get the concept of or do the math on the rebates. One, the one who did the Checkme tests, did not get back to me with a bid as I had asked. One or two made bids that were extravagantly, and even laughably high. ( His bid was $3000 MORE... three thousand dollars MORE for a Lennox, I guess he did not notice that he was standing in a $100,000 home.) One badmouthed a product that I know is not bad. I can and do read. He was cranky and sort of mean. Another Angie"s "A" rated would not even come out because my purchase would be so small and he was so busy. I got sick of stupid salesmen who could not tell that they weren't selling anything. Finally, I called Midwest. I told the person who answered the phone that I just can't stand salesmen. I told her why. The technicians were always nice and informative. The salesmen were always terrible. She sent Tom. I am sure Tom was ready to meet a loon. He was very nice. I told him what I wanted. He had a look at my little home. He sent me a proposal with several choices that included all the levels of available rebates. So easy, so simple. No hype, no pressure. I had to delay my install due to a foundation emergency. That was fixed and the hot weather came. I contacted Tom and my system was installed in a week. The installation is very clean and neat. The installers were prompt, careful, neat, friendly and professional. They left no mess or damage. The work was done in just a few hours. They made sure I had a/c on while they worked. Everything is perfect. My a/c .... is a beautiful thing. The furnace is very nice and clean looking. All the switches that I might need are in plain sight. I am sort of slowly renovating my little home. These units make it look so much better. Not to mention with the high efficiency I will be somewhat immune to all the proposed utility rate raises that are in the news. And I get all the rebates. I am confident that Midwest will be there if anything goes wrong. I would never call anyone else.
Description of Work: *****$5273.00 cost is misleading. I get $1500 back with my taxes. I will only pay $3773 for this great system.********** Install energy efficient heating and a/c Lennox 95% efficient gas furnace & 16 SEER, 13 EER a/c.
