Description of Work: I paid $99 to have this company design an outdoor space for me. I was free to keep the design. I got an email from the company on a Sunday night stating they would contact me by phone the next day. They never called me or contacted me again. I'm in the middle of home remodeling and am dealing with several different types of contractors, so I don't have time to chase them down. I emailed Angie's List explaining the situation and asking for a refund. Have not heard from Angie's list either. I am one unhappy customer.

Description of Work: The $99 consultation with drawings was well worth the price. High attention to details, and creative solutions. Very impressed with his can-do attitude. Estimate for project was fair and in line with other contractors. However, we decided to go with another contractor, but would consider Essential Extras again for other projects.

Description of Work: Replace porch and patio with deck, arbor, and paver patio. The consultation was very worthwhile ending with a rough estimate and creative plan for deck shape and arbor details. A more specific drawing and estimate was personally discussed with me a few days later. The estimate was broken out by each smaller part of the job, deck, arbor, screening, tearout, landscaping so I could decide if I wanted entire project or portions. | |Carpenter was exceptional and contacted me if he wouldn't make it on time. Job site was made safe every night. Although the start of the project was delayed by severe winter, the project was completed in the timeframe discussed. Project stayed in budget except for a few minor repairs needed when old porch was torn out. My neighbors love it.

+ 0 moreHe were professional and showed up when agreed. Ahead of time he gave us ideas to think about in planning a back yard (to come up with our goals for the space.) Upon arrival we discussed goals, and he walked the yard and took measurements. He then offered several ideas, and listened to feedback. After that he returned a second time with one of his co-workers to discuss specific plant/ tree ideas, deck and landscaping ideas, and finalize the drawings. He then sent us an extimate for the work, and the drawings that we needed. We are very happy with the design. We may hire them to do some of the work, and do some of it ourselves, once we figure out our budget etc.
Description of Work: I can't remember the exact price but it was an Angie's List didscount deal for a landscape design. We were looking for recommendations and drawings for our back yard, which is what they did. They also gave estimates for some of the work and labor.

Description of Work: This is the second time we have used essential extras. The first time they changed the direction of the stairs from our deck to our yard and covered the deck. This time the doubled the size of our deck and added electricity and water. Terry, the owner, is very creative in his designs and listens carefully to your requests. They have done two jobs that blend in well with our original deck and greatly enhance our outdoor living experience at a reasonable price. I plan to have them stain the whole deck in the spring!

+ -1 moreBefore we began our remodeling projects to add a screened in porch, deck, vinyl siding and vinyl fence, we gathered estimates from about 6 companies. During the estimate process, Terry (the owner of Essential Extras) offered great suggestions while considering traffic patterns, durability and our desires, while the others we met with seemed to only consider ?cookie-cutter? style decks with no uniqueness. Terry?s portfolio of projects was professional and nicely presented, while other?s albums were difficult to follow, as there wasn?t much explanation or continuity. Terry seemed to understand what we were wanting. Initially, I had the feeling that he held our hand and walked us through the process which was what I needed because we were considering a huge financial project. Once the project began, we no longer saw Terry until milestone payments were due. Terry did not inspect the work or check on the carpenter?s progress. The relationship between the lead carpenter and the owner left a lot to be desired because they often talked badly about the other one. The carpenters arrived early in the mornings to work but would often leave shortly after lunch. We loved the carpenters, who were exceptional, professional, and personable. A really special relationship was formed with them. I rated a B on price because he wasn?t the lowest price, and once we contracted with him there were additional charges that seemed to be surprises. I rated a B on responsiveness because we had a problem with the screen door closing properly as well as a gate closing properly and it took some time before he came to fix it. I rated a B on punctuality because the carpenters sometimes didn?t come or would leave very early. I rated a B on professionalism because the superintendent of job and Terry had a bad relationship and regularly talked badly of one another. Once the project was completed, we were very satisfied with the finished product. We feel that we have a very nice outside living space that has been built with quality in mind.
