Extremely well.
Description of Work: Central air went out. Another company did not respond for three days. Due to extreme heat in the humid 90s I needed to find someone so called Arctic. They came out even on the weekend though closed. Brandon was friendly, professional, prompt, and efficient. He also did a wonderful job of communication keeping me informed. I would certainly use them again. My neighbor highly recommended them and so did Angie's List and now so do I.

Called to repair a leak in the refrigerant line that was not a manufacturing defect. Service was prompt and done well but as I said above I would have liked an alternate to expensive R22 if available and the labor charge was excessive.
Description of Work: Repair leaking line and refill w/refrigerant. Charged $350 for about one hour onsite plus refrigerant cost. R22 refrigerant is being phased out and priced up by government edict and I would have liked to know if their was an option to replace with other than R22. This company had previously installed the AC about five years ago. In the warranty period they would not warranty a defective switch without paying for a service call. I took the switch into their office and the lady just shut me down and would not let me talk to the owner. I have about 40 years of industrial electric service and I think I can diagnose a simple switch.

Dear customer, Unfortunately with an R-22 system, there are no alternatives other than charging the unit with R-22. Regarding the part that you allegedly brought into our office, our insurance coverage designates what we are insured to do. We cannot sell a part over the counter as we do not even have an in-house parts outlet. Our coverage is for our own employees and will not cover a situation such as a consumer do-it-yourself project. Any warranty part must be diagnosed and serviced by our technicians or the manufacturer will not honor the warranty. I hope this clarifies some of the points that you brought up in your review. Excellent. Call to finished repairs.
Description of Work: I have used this company for several year for routine preventative measures and repair for heating and AC. They promptly schedule technicians, who report as scheduled. They are professional and clearly explain the situation or needed repairs. They clearly explain the costs for repair and parts. I plan to use their services again and recommend them to others.

Nothing more to add.
Description of Work: The company completed a repair described as a line voltage component for central air unit blowing hot air. The company charged $289 plus trip charge. The Technican completed the work in approximately 30 minutesI called the company the following day and requested an itemization of the repair for materials and labor. The office manager was unable to answer and The owner was not in but called later in the today and responded their company would not provide an itemization of the amount they billed as they utilize a flat rate all in pricing format for several years. I advised the owner if a part was replaced, I would like a part name and/or part number for the repair completed. The Owner refused to disclose and provide an itemization as requested. I have drawn my own conclusions by the companys' failure and refusal to provide an itemization for billed work between parts and labor. Draw your own conclusions why a company would refuse to provide an itemization of their own services made by a customer request.

Response from ARCTIC AIR HEATING & COOLING CO
In review of (member name removed) complaint to you, our company is set up on a flat rate pricing guide, which means that the customer knows in advance of the cost for repair. The service technician advises the customer regarding the cost, afterward the customer must authorize the work to be done by signing the authorization part of the service invoice allowing the service technician to proceed with the repair to the system. The flat rate system is devised of a one price depending on the nature of the repair. Labor, materials and parts are figured in the one price. The customer knows in advance what he/she will pay for the repair. The Flat rate program is an industry program that many HVAC companies currently use to avoid price controversy and variables in repair pricing. This actually protects the customer depending on the speed of the various service technicians, avoiding hourly rates. Some technicians are slower than others. So for the same repair, we charge the same price for every customer. This process also eleviates variables in pricing. (member name removed) signed the authorization to proceed with the repair utilizing our flat rate pricing. If(member name removed) didn't wish to proceed with the repair, he could have used a company that does not utilize flat rate pricing. After authorizing the repair, (member name removed) complained to Angie's List regarding the flat rate pricing. This is precisely why the proceedure is explained in advance in it's entirety and why the customer must sign the authorization prior to the repair. When the repair is completed, the customer signs the acceptance of work performed area of the invoice, which says that the customer is satisified with the work performed. I hope this clarifys this matter. Respecfully, Arctic Air Heating and Cooling Company

It was a very good experience. Very professional.
Description of Work: I tried to change the filter in my A/C unit and could not get it to start again. I called Arctic Air at 11:30 on Friday; one of the hotest days of the summer. I got a call back from the technician in less than 10 minutes. He tried to walk me through resetting the unit to get it started. When this did not work, he came out. Showed me what to do and got it going again. He did not charge me for the call. I will certainly have them come for the fall service. I have a new Heating and A/C company!

The service technician was very friendly, cordial and knowedgeable. He evaluated the situation quickly, provided an estimate and indicated he could complete the job the next day, which he did. The trip out to evaluate the situation was no charge, although we incurred a trip charge the day he repaired the flue pipe, which is included in the overall cost. We saved 15% off the service charge, because we had done business with them before and had their sticker displayed on the furnace. Price gets a C (fair - literally) meaning it was a fair price given my situation. I did not have alot time to get cost comparisons without incurring additional trip costs. I wanted to get flue pipe replaced asap and assumed the price was reasonable based on past shopping experience for heating and air conditioning in the past. Artics prices have been competitive and one of many reasons I chose them originally, but the work only took an hour, which feels pricey without comparison. Overall, the job was completed to my satisfaction and I would recommend them for consideration.
Description of Work: The original flue pipe that allows carbon monoxide to run from the water heater and furnace to the outside, corroded and had to be replaced. Our new heater and air-conditioner was pruchased and installed by Artic Air. Based on our satisfaction with the units performance we contacted them again to replace the flue pipe. The worked performed including tearing out the old flue pipe and installing new flue pipe.

See above for the story. Very impressive service.
Description of Work: Last summer I decided to clean my air conditioning compressors. I pulled out the fuse in eletric box so there would be no chance of shock. After hosing out the compressor I tried to get the large fuses back in and could not get them connected to start the A/C running again. I called Arctic Air and they sent a workman out in an hour or two and he got the connection back properly. There was nothing really wrong with the system, but I messed it up myself. They did not even charge me a service call, which they surely could have. I thought right then, I would certainly give them my business and recommend them for their fairness.

No work was done. I explained myself above.
Description of Work: My heat up was not working and I called this company to help me. They said they could be there the same day. When the tech arrived he was wearing a pair of shorts a sweat shirt and he a small tool bag in his hand and he had on dirty tennis shoes. He went to the basement and looked at my furnace and then looked at my thermostats and asked were my second furance was. I do not have two furances, I have a dual zone set up in my house I explained. He said well I do not know how to work on that. I said then you need to not touch anything and I asked him to leave. Then he parked in my drive way and left an oil mark. Not professional at all.

Response from ARCTIC AIR HEATING & COOLING CO
The reason our technician refused to work on this system is because it is set up improperly. A zoning system should not be installed on a non variable furnace because as the load decreases or increases the furnace must be able to provide the desired capacity. Member's furnace is a fixed capacity furnace and whoever installed a zoning system for her did it improperly. This was explained to her by our technician but she did not want to accept the facts and became angry and frustrated. All of our technicians are uniformed and properly dressed for the job and we don't think it is fair to write untrue comments about our tech because he tells the facts about her improper and mismatched system. All zoning systems should be installed on variable equipments this is recommended by the manufacturer you are welcome to research this and get the real facts. We do it right otherwise we will not touch it.

We new up front the problem could be something more then a simple leak and it was. They spent 3 hours in 100 degree weather replacing the unit and fixed an exhaust pipe that was never sealed when the house was built. We were given several options and a professional opinon. No pressure sales. Everyone was friendly and did a great job
Description of Work: We had what was thought to be a frion leak last Sunday. It was fixed but only lasted a week. Brandon explained the problem may be a bigger issue but explained we should start with this issue first. When I called a second time they were here early and resolved our problem with a new unit. They also credited the previous service call.

Overall, they did a great job. I can't say enough positive things about them. In the end I saved a whole bunch of money, and I wish I would have found them sooner.
Description of Work: Performed a routine maintenance service on our furnace. This was after our regular HVAC company, LBA, had informed me that my fan motor bearings were going out and the motor needed to be pulled and cleaned. After looking things over Arctic Air informed me that this was not the case, saving me several hundred dollars in unnecessary expenses. The previous company was also charging me close to $80 each for filters. Arctic air recommended I just go to Lowes and buy them for $25. They also checked out the humidifier for no extra charge (something LBA had yet another surcharge for) — so overall, just for the regular maintenance visit, this ended up costing about half as much as LBA, and several hundred dollars on top of that for not doing unneccessary work. It's also noteworthy that Arctic Air does not have a tiered pricing structure that tries to push you into purchasing a service contract.

I was searching for a contractor to install a new heater and air conditioner, because our furnace was 40 years old and our airconditioner had stopped cooling in the hottest part of the summer. Ray from Arctic Air came to our house and gave us an estimate that was comparable to the other companies that I had talked with. He also took the time to answer all my questions and helped to make sure that we were able to take the most advantage of the energy tax credits and rebates and credits from the utilities. I also felt confident that the Arctic Air solution was appropriate for our house. Arctic Air sent three installers to install the system. They took caution not to dirty our floors our damage our house. They were very courteous, friendly and professional. They removed the old equipment and installed the new system in about 8 hours. Including running a new line set for the AC and installing Vent pipes for the high efficiency furnace. They explained all the tax credit paperwork, filed the warranty paperwork for me and answered the care and maintenance questions that I had. It was a pleasant experience overall.
Description of Work: Recommended and installed a new furnace and air conditioner.

They applied gasket/insulation and said they do that as a standard on their installations. Our unit was purchased from a different dealer. The problem was solved, at least as far as we can tell.
