The whole process from the estimate all the way through to the finished product was a pleasure. Al was prompt and professional. Everything was completed in a timely fashion and they were great about protecting my furniture and cleaning up after themselves. We would definitely us them again in the future.

Really appreciate owner's wife for taking the time to post this review. Originally met the husband to bid the repair and worked with the wife throughout the process as he was at work everyday when we started. Basically the problem started when the siding was not properly flashed from the roof above. Seen this a hundred times and can not figure out why some contractors do not get it. Nonetheless we had to jack up the corner of this home, replace the damaged wood components and replaced a bad picture window in the process. We did the job properly, respected the owner's home and communicated throughout the process to successfully accomplish the job at hand. The owners were great to work with and we turned a bad situation into a situation that could be taken on the worry list...Thanks Angie's List for bringing us together. Take care, Al

It went perfect! Al and his co-worker Gary arrived at the appointed time and day and were ready to go. Securing the 2-story back "sun" porches was difficult and intense. It certainly was more involved than both Al and I anticipated. But Al did not charge me more for that additional work. Al has done work for me before and it is always done to beyond my expectations and my expectations are high. They did a great job for me and I feel very secure that those porches are safe to use. They increased the structural capacity. Installed galvanized hangers and other structural items to code. I don't understand all of it but the engineer who said it needed to be done gave me the ok. I read a previous review that stated Al was a misogynist. I am a woman and have worked in the woman's movement for 34 years and take great pride in being a feminist. I understand misogyny and confront it on a very regular basis. It is not a word to use lightly. Al Birkenmeier has never exhibited any behavior that even comes near being misogynistic. I respect him and he very obviously respects me and I highly recommend any client female or male to hire him. Sincerely, Michelle

Well thank you so much [Member Name Removed] I really appreciate the opportunity to be of service again for a previous client and it really makes me feel I am doing my job. And really appreciate you commenting on a previous negative comment calling me out as a misogynist, that really bothered me. I love and respect all women and view them as precious to our world as my mother, my wonderful wife and daughter. I have worked really hard to respect, communicate and serve all my clients woman or man for over 35 years now and will continue to do so. Looking forward to coming back [Member Name Removed] to trim out those porches for you when your siding guy is done with the windows and siding. Take care, Al

Birkenmeier and Sons Inc. just completed an entire re-roof on our existing home where they had to do a complete tear off and install new architectural roof shingles over the proper Ice/Water Shield and underlayment. They did an awesome job and completed all in one day of our fairly large roof. His men were very polite and did a very good job of cleaning up. My husband and I highly recommend them for any and all home improvements as we know of several clients they have worked for with glaring recommendations from all of them.

Thank you so much for the review and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance. As a general contractor we employ all trades to take care of pretty much everything a homeowner needs. In the mid 80's to mid 90's all we did was custom homes so we did everything from the foundation to the roof with everything in between. We do use the best trades people we can find so may be a little bit more then the cheapest but usually worth it. Although sometimes jobs are too small for us and/or to be competitive we will always take a look to see if we can be of assistance... Take care, Al

I had multiple contractors come out a provide many reasons for the separation from a sinking foundation needing peering, water damage requiring full basement waterproofing as well as full tear down and replacement of the bricks. Al responded immediately to my phone call requesting a quote and had his masonry man Dan out to my house to inspect the brick work and advise what needed to be done. Dan showed me that the issue had been poor workmanship back in 1963 when the home was built. The contractor did not provide adequate anchoring for the brick to the framework of the home. The quote was competative and comparable to other similar repair offers. Dan was the only one who came to my house while I was there to show me what was needed and how it would be fixed. In addition, Dan went out of his way to find matching bricks for the home. The size of the bricks made in the 60's are larger than those made today. He found a number of styles that he thought would work and offered me the opportunity to look at them and choose what I thought would work best. I was surprised that the bricks Dan selected were nearly a match to the 50 year old brick on the front of my house. I selected the brick, they were delivered when promised and Dan's work was superb. He even went to extremes to ensure the mortar color matched perfectly. This team was the only ones that offered the opportunity for an exact match. The others promised "as close as possible". In addition I asked to have them to repair some cracked bricks and do needed tuck pointing. Finally, I told them I had water leakage around my chimneys and had a number of roofers come and repair the flashing on more than one occasion. The leakage continued. Al, inspected the chimney and advised it was not the roofing but the chimney itself. Dan came out and made the necessary repairs. The service, response and trustworthiness was wonderful. The service and workmanship provided was much better than anticipated and a bargain for what I had to pay
Description of Work: I had three panels of brick veneer separating from my 1960's era mid-century ranch house. Al's team came to my home and were able to replace the failing brick with new brick that matched the fifty year old brick work on my home. It would take a professional to be able to determine that there was a difference in the brick on my home

This client had a unique problem of poor craftsmanship from the time the house was built. The wall ties that hold the brick veneer to the house framing were not nailed into the studs as should have been. Again we come behind trades people that either try to take short cuts or just ignorant of the proper way things should be constructed. And sometimes things just get old and wear out. Nonetheless we will do our best to do things the right way from the get go, may cost a bit more but in the long run always worth it.. This one my bricklayer as all of our trades people go out of our way to find the best solution to not only remedy the problem but also make the repair as attractive as possible and protect the character of the home. Kudos to my bricklayer cause even I was impressed how seamless he made this repair blend with the 50 year front elevation.... Take care, Al

At last and after helping this client complete two prior jobs he had us come back another time to extend the space between the steel posts that support the I Beam that supports the center of the home. We have had a lot of experience in this field and as usual those steel post always get in the way of a good floor plan. So it may cost a little bit more what a difference we can make if we can move those steel post to open things up. It is not rocket science but you have to know what you are doing as you move the supports that structurally support the house. I have had 44 years of experience in commercial and residential construction which has taught me well and how to approach these challenges. Now, this client has a free and open kitchen in his finished lower level that makes a tremendous difference in the looks and feel of this new area. Thanks again for another opportunity... This client bought a new home that needed some additions added to it to make it complete. He is a CEO of a big company so did a lot of traveling but always stayed in good communications. This deck was one that belongs in the Home and Gardens Magazine as it was decked out with a built in hot tub, gas grill and gas fireplace. We were able to get creative with our custom railing, unique design and rail lighting. It is fun for us to do this elaborate stuff and appreciate the opportunity... Take care, Al

This was our second of three jobs we were invited to accomplish for this client. As usual if the first job turns out spectacular and another job is desired we are invited to accomplish another opportunity which we did in this case. Again this is a new home with the desire to finish out the basement, which is now called the lower level as we extended the character of the first floor though out the lower level to make a seamless extension that extends the warmth and feel of this beautiful home. We appreciate this opportunity and had fun helping this client accomplish his dream to complete the home of his dreams.. Take care, Al

I first met Al through Angie's List in March 2014. He was one of 5 contractors I interviewed to complete a large home renovation project. He stood out immediately from the other contractors as someone who was knowledgeable, responsible, honest, and fair. We hired him and were not disappointed. Al completed our first project on-time and on-budget. He was a dream to work with. Al completed our first project in August 2014. He allowed us to call with any questions or concerns long after it's completion and went to bat for us against a major plumbing product company re: a defective faucet. He takes customer service to a new level. Al recently completed another large project for us, a complete basement renovation. Al and his team were just as wonderful to work with a second time. I give his name out to anyone I know that is considering home renovation projects. At least two of my neighbors have used his services just based on seeing him and his hard working crew getting started at 6:30 AM and completing a beautiful project in no time. I noticed a recent review that unfairly calls Al a misogynist. I was floored by this review, until I noticed that this reviewer did not actually hire Al for his services. She obviously does not know Al. I am a young woman, who knows nothing about home improvement. I dealt almost exclusively with Al as my husband has a demanding job and works long hours. I was also very pregnant and hormonal during our first project;). Yes, Al, I'll admit it. Al was always kind to me and treated me like an equal. He took time to explain anything I asked him and never made me feel like this was a man's territory. He was equally caring towards my children, who were often in tow for meetings. This judgement of Al is simply not true. Anyone who really knows him can attest to this. Al, I hope I am done with you as I can't handle anymore home improvement at the moment and you've made my house pretty perfect. You will however always get a Christmas card from me and we enjoy getting yours as well. We consider you family. Angie's List subscriber, you would be darn lucky if Al was available to hire for your job. He is one in a million!

Well, I am ever grateful for the work and the review. I really cherish my clients and when asked to come back do other things I feel I am doing my job. I know I am not perfect but if I do have to come back to make any adjustments or help a client on a previous job detail I take it very seriously. We always try our best to do things right the first time and the way I would do it for myself. This client was great to work with both times and her husband being a doctor made his availability some what scarce so on the bigger job I set up a time once a week per his schedule so we could keep him in the loop. I really enjoy what I do and enjoy seeing the smiles on my client's faces when they see the finish product. Thanks again to Anjie's List for putting good people together so we can help each other... In 2014, Al Birkenmeier and multiple subcontractors (all identified and managed by Al) assisted us in major renovations and upgrades in an older family home in Kirkwood. Al and his team did an excellent job and we are very pleased with the results (as noted in my lengthy review posted in December 2014). Based on this positive experience we asked Al to assist us with some additional smaller projects. He organized and supervised the repair and partial replacement of siding at our home and also with the adjustment of doors and jambs after the original reno, which had included repair to a damaged foundation wall. He also assisted with oversight for some exterior landscaping work and followup. We needed a custom built bookshelf for our sunroom and Al personally oversaw the planning and design of all the components of the shelf and then returned multiple times to ensure that the spacing, molding and painting were done correctly. This is not just a bookshelf, but a masterpiece, which really completes the wall in the sunroom. Al?s attention to detail and commitment to quality are exemplified in this final work, but reflected in all that he did for us in remaking our home.

I have hired Al Birkenmeier for a number of projects over the last 5-6 years, ranging from this relatively modest fence repair project to a large-scale kitchen and office renovation. The best review that I can give is that I will hire Al again for my next project. His combination of skill, quality and communication set him apart from all other contractors that I've ever hired. Al will do the job the right way and will keep you informed of any issues. Most recently I noticed some rotting in a very expensive wooden fence around my property. Al identified some faulty construction techniques as the source of water infiltration and devised a plan to permanently solve the issue that did not involve replacing more of the fence than was necessary - but did involve taking extra time to seal all the new wood being used before installing it. He also introduced me to a new painter who provided good service at an attractive price.

[Member Name Removed], has been a very good client over the past 5-6 years and I know he wants stuff done correctly. I enjoy very much working for him because of that and I can do the job the way it should be done and the way I do things. It may take a few more bucks but in the long run it is money well spent. We always try our best to do the job the way we would do it for ourselves and Mr. [Member Name Removed], like many of our other clients, realize that and keep calling us when a job needs to be done correctly. He has an awesome home with some very impressive character that we both value and protect. Makes my job fun because we are not doing the same old cookie cutter stuff that doesn't take much effort and craftsmanship...Thank you Mr. [Member Name Removed] for another opportunity... Our first contacts were great, and Al was pleasant and attentive. I was impressed with Al's ability to bring together all of his subs to my property to determine a bid. I met with each sub separately to walk through the project with him. I felt Al was knowledgeable and would be a good contractor; I hoped his bid would be on budget. He told me he understood that I was in a hurry and would try to expedite the bid, which I greatly appreciated. As time went on, Al had various reasons about why the bid was not complete-- he's too busy, he's a "top shelf contractor" (per one email exchange) and may not be the best option for my job, he was waiting for subs to respond with numbers. After nearly a month of waiting for his bid, Al emailed me and said that my plans were not complete enough, he had too many questions on the project from his subs, he could not "guess" on what the numbers would be, that he had a responsibility to his existing clients and 4 more clients waiting for bids ahead of me, and that he would no longer provide a bid. This was unprofessional; he could have told me from the initial meeting that he just didn't have time for my project --or even that he was too busy to give me a bid from the very start! If he had so many questions about my plans, I would have been happy to pressure the architect to finalize the details and send them to him immediately. If his subs had questions, they all had my information (and the information for the architect/designer) and could have contacted me or asked him to follow up on the information. We had several emails where I inquired about the bid and he responded with why he hadn't finalized yet, without ever asking for additional information. Instead of providing me a chance to assist with the detailed plans or additional information OR just declining the job from the beginning, he cost me two weeks of work while waiting for his bid (in the meantime, I received three other bids for the job). Nothing personal to Al himself-- he was a nice, decent guy. UPDATED IN RESPONSE TO PROVIDER: It is an unfortunate truth that being a woman in this industry is not easy. Misogyny is alive and well, and is clearly exemplified by Mr. Birkenmeier's comments. I (a woman) am the client in this situation, and I contracted my husband's architecture firm to do my drawings (a firm that has been incredibly successful for over 40 years.) Mr. Birkenmeier is merely displaying his hopes at discrediting my review, and I will not let him bait me into some sort of childish slapping contest. Mr. Birkenmeier previously contacted me via email after my first review in an attempt to guilt me into changing it. I did edit the wording to be somewhat softer, but I cannot be dishonest when it comes to these reviews. It defeats the purpose and ultimately is a disservice to all Angie's List users. Needless to say, the roof is still standing. The architect and the structural engineer involved are both at the tops of their industries, and to be quite frank, the only amateur here appears to be the one who was unable to complete his job with the adequate information required. It makes me sad that in this day and age there is still so much anti-woman sentiment, but at least there is a place like Angie's list where I can let other women see for themselves the depths to which some of these men can sink.
Description of Work: This provider (Al, owner) came to my property and met with me, bringing several subs, in order to provide a bid for an entire home remodel and basement finish.

Al Birkenmeier, and his assistant, Gary, did an exceptional job on the renovation project that I needed a general contractor for. With over 40 years in the contracting and home building profession, I could not be more pleased with the end product...he gave me exactly what I wanted. Very professional, easy-going, prompt and precise with all the tools of the trade to get the job done. I would not hesitate to use Al again in the future and/or refer him to anyone in need of general construction. Exceptional work.

This client was great to work with and in need of some experienced help to do a portion of his renovation that he could not do himself. He wanted to relocate his staircase going from the first floor to the lower level. After building 60 custom homes we have had plenty of experience in the field and how to make it happen. In doing the job, had to make a turning staircase because of space constraints and remove some walls that the client was not sure if they were bearing or not. We even did some extra stuff to show our appreciation. Well, it all turned out great and appreciate the nice review client gave us. He even asked us to bid some of the finish work which is another good sign that I look for on every job... I enjoy what I do and making the client happy at the end is just icing on the cake... Al was fantastic from beginning to end. A downright nice guy, he communicated promptly and professionally. Perhaps we could have gotten the services at a slightly lower cost elsewhere, but he seemed like a great balance of cost vs. quality and he made sure we understood what he was doing and why throughout the whole process. On some things he was a perfectionist where it counted: our front door closes butter smooth. On other things (the particular drywall mudding sub-contractor he chose, for example) he could have done better, but it was a matter of getting an excellent drywall job in exchange for having to deal with a less-than-professional person doing the work. In the "win some, lose some" game, Al won in all the areas that counted. I will go to him first in the future for work that needs to be done.

Client was excellent to work for and seemed to understand what we were up against, and I trying to treat my customers like I would like to be treated, I realize I am going to run into more then what meets the eye as it always does. So with the opportunity I opened up the walls until I could determine the end of the damage that needed repair, replaced all damaged areas and put everything back together the way it should be. Normally the taper relies on the painter to do some minimal touch up with the paint job, so maybe the owner did not realize this as they did their own painting but it seemed it all worked out. Had to patch in the hardwood floor and that turned out good as well. And did some extra caulking on the exterior siding and trim as there were some gap and cracks that needed some attention... Thanks for the opportunity Homeowner and Anjie's List... Take care, Al

Every aspect of the work and service from bid to final bill was outstanding. Al was always communicative, professional and helpful as were his employees and subs. The work was done on schedule and on budget. He even did some custom work to make the vanity top and vanity that we purchased separately fit together when we thought they wouldn't. Throughout the project they were very organized and used plastic walls to contain dust so their presence was of minimal impact to our daily routine. We now have a GREAT looking bathroom with pocket doors and a new walk in closet in one of the rooms.

( members name removed), were just great to work with. They had two very beautiful young girls that they were sharing their only bathroom with on the second floor. Fortunately one the bedrooms had some extra space we could capitalize on and was able to plan out a Jack and Jill bathroom for the both of them plus a walk in closet. We had to bring up the plumbing and electric through the first floor from the basement building out a wall and able to blend it in seamlessly. It turned out great and had fun helping them out with a very practical need. As always we treated our clients like we would like to be treated and these clients were very accommodating along the way. In the end mission accomplished, everybody happy thanks to Angie's List... Take care, Al

Of the quotes I received from various companies Birkenmeier and Son's was the most thorough and realistic. They showed up to begin work on schedule and stayed with the job until it was finished. [member name removed] had some serious damage to the back of his home that needed some professional attention. The original siding job was allowing water to get behind it and causing an invitation that invited termites and water damage to sneak up on this homeowner with no way of knowing until it was too late. We had to shore up the floor and roof to replace subfloor members and structural wall members. The job turned into a bigger job then I expected cause a lot was hidden behind the walls but we worked hard and got the job done and kept our original price with the owner. [member name removed] was great to work for and gave us access to do our job even though he had to be at work everyday but with his trust and our hard work we gotter done...;-) He was a pleasure to work and since we had such a good experience he trusted us with redoing his roof and gutters... When Birkenmeier and Sons did some repairs on my home it was not necessarily my intention to have him also do my roof and gutters. However, the first job was so painless that I asked him to give me a quote for the roof and gutters. His pricing was better than I had been expecting and the convenience of using the same team was very appealing. The roof and gutters look great and they fixed what was a problem for many years with water getting behind the siding.

Nothing better then a repeat customer. Our second opportunity to be of service and fulfill a need for a very good client. After repairing his home that suffered some severe damage caused by termites and water damage I was on the look out to make sure this will never happen again. So when we got the job to redo his roof and gutters we also built out the rear fascia board so it projected over the siding which was the problem to begin with. After building approximately 60 custom homes in the mid 80s-mid90s I never could understand why some builders did not pay attention to details that avoids such problems. Nonetheless the roof and gutter replacement were a simple replacement. We talked the homeowner to go with some gutter guard protection as there were many mature trees that will cause problems down the road. Again it was a pleasure working with this client that trusted us and we made sure that his trust would pay off for him. We got the job done, done right the first time, and took measures to avoid problems down the road... Thanks [removed member name] for the repeat opportunity and glad to remove your immediate concerns regarding your home... Take care, Al

I called and left a message with Al with my concerns about my garage. Al called me back in a very timely fashion. We set up a time for him to come look at the situation. Al arrived to my house on time on the day of the appointment and called me to tell me he was on his way. He was thorough and unrushed in his diagnosis of my problem. After he left, we emailed several times to discuss the details of the project. Al is prompt in his response to e-mails and phone calls, which I really appreciate. The work was done sooner than completed and Al was great with communication. I think the price may of been a tad high for the work done, but I think it was well worth it for the peace of mind to know it was done right and that Al was always there to alleviate concerns. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again and I have several other projects I will use him for in the future. Thanks, Al.

Again, I was able to offer 44 years of experience and do the things that are necessary to do the job right the first time. When I have to redo what is wrong first it does raise the cost accordingly and I do have professionals that all work for me and pay them a premium to offer the best job possible so I can maintain the integrity of my reputation. If I can't do the job the best way I don't want the job, it's just the way I like to live my life and sleep like a baby at night. Nonetheless, if you want the best call me and if you want the cheapest price better call the other guy. Angie's List does have a very group of good contractors so a good source for all and I use it myself. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be of service so Thank you homeowner for that chance....

We had fun helping this Great Family, with eight children wow!, replace on door and convert a window into a door so they could get from their laundry room to their new front patio area. Was not the normal task as the floor was slanted concrete and we had to cut through brick and block, then anchor framing to the masonry and shim the sill to properly do the job correctly. Then the jamb and sills had to be custom made to accommodate the thick exterior walls which raised the cost of this project. Nonetheless we were able to get the job done professionally and working perfectly. We really had fun helping this family accomplish their plan and they were great to work for... Thank you Anjie's List as this the 4th client in the same subdivision due to you... Take care, Al

Al was very professional from the beginning. Most of his sub-contractors were easy to work with and did excellent work. Al doesn't do design, but he recommended someone to help us with that who ended up doing a great job. He estimated the job to take 6-8 weeks, and it was finished as predicted in 8 weeks. He was very responsive to all our questions and concerns. I will use him again in the future.

This job turn out so awesome I need to get some pictures of it on this website as I need to do on so many just run out of time doing so many things. It still amazes me when we get a chance to work with my kitchen designer and put our heads together to totally open up walls and rearrange the layout for a new kitchen. It completely impacts the whole house plan. This newly wed couple had a good house to work with and a potential for a complete make over of the living space of their 50 year old home. We tore out a wall, closed off an exterior door and gave this couple the kitchen they dreamed of. They even invited my wife and I to their house warming/birthday/anniversary party met their parents and friends and just had a great time. Everyone was so complimentary which made my day and gave me the satisfaction that I look for on every job. Another positive relationship thanks to Anjie's List... take care, Al

Al of Birkenmeier and sons, Inc. was extremely professional, punctual and courteous, as was his crew. Unforeseen issues arose when the wall was taken down. The wall, which was not supposed to be a weight bearing wall, was bearing the weight of two bathrooms above it. The ceiling above had to be jacked up 2 in.in order to begin. The main stack of the plumbing was found to leaking, and had to be replaced, as well as supply and return water lines moved to the opposite side of the room.Termite damage was also found in the tearout phase, with replacement of subfloor needed. Despite these setbacks, Al and his team worked diligently to keep our project on schedule, and kept inconvenience to our large family to a minimum. He and his team were polite, and proactive with subcontractors, keeping the project moving. Al was communicative, direct, and congenial to work with. We are completely satisfied with our expanded kitchen dining space, the openness of our new hearth room, and the beauty of the added natural light. It has modernized our 50 year old home in such a livable way!
Description of Work: Removed wall between kitchen and family room to create expanded kitchen eating area and hearth room living space. The room was expanded ceiling to floor. New hardwood floors were laid in hearth room, which were seamed together to existing kitchen floor. New canned lighting, electric and ceiling in hearth room.Old bookshelves were torn out, and replaced with windows, under which window seats were built in. A side entry door was removed, and replaced with a window. Did stone overlay on fireplace surround and new stone hearth.

It was our distinct pleasure to work with this family. They were awesome and tip my cap to the parents that can raise 8 wonderful kids. As in most older homes the house was good size but too many walls closing up the space available. After opening up the wall between kitchen and family room it was much to my surprise that the original builder had made this wall a bearing wall very contrary to standard building and because of that the floor up above, with the weight of two bathrooms, had sunk two whole inches. We had to jack it up and install some supportive beams to support the weight. Also found some cast iron drains in dire need of repair and got that taken care of as well. All completed in time to refinish the hardwood floor while the family was on Spring Break with the kids. What a difference removing a wall can make to the use and feel of the home. It turned out spectacular and everyone is happy. Anjie's List strikes again as we ride off in the sunset feeling good....Take care, Al

Going into this, I was worried that my construction job was going to be a big mess but it turned out to be a very pleasant experience. No matter what questions I had, Al was available to answer them. He called or emailed me back quickly and made sure I was comfortable with all the steps of the project. He took care of a couple of issues before they could became problems, and that was such a relief! His workers were very kind, professional and treated my home with total respect! I would use Birkenmeier and Sons again without hesitation.

It was a pleasure to work with this client. I could tell she was very apprehensive to how all this was going to go down. We had to tear out her existing staircase going to the lower level in the middle of her home. I tried my best to give her confidence that we would make this job as easy as possible. We also planned to do the job when she was home on vacation from work and it just went as smooth as it could be. We got it done in a week and out the door. This lady was very kind and very comfortable once we got started and she figured out that we were very experienced and willing to treat her and her house like she was family.... Another winner for us and Angie's List... Take care, Al

We were so very pleased to help these clients with their roof replacement on their very impressive home in Sunset Hills. We had met as I was a client of their orthopedic and prosthetic business (P&O) and they did such wonderful job for me getting back to running and playing tennis. It was a pleasure to return the favor and that's the way it is supposed to be. Good people taking care of each other... Take care, Al

They were clean, fast, professional and I trusted them to be in my house while I was at work. I already have them coming out to do more work for me around my house. They loved our dog and could not haven been any nicer, professional and fair. They were half the cost of our other bids and did an amazing job. I highly recommend them.

You meet the nicest people in a Honda, no I mean on Anjie's List. Actually these wonderful clients came from a neighbor that found us on Anjie's List. They had a need to eliminate a bearing wall with out any sign of a structural header showing for the support. So as we have so many times in the past, and very uncommon to most builder/contractors, had to hide or conceal the structural beam that supports the 2nd Floor above so the ceilings could be flush with each other after the wall is removed. It is 10 times more work but have done it so many times it is becoming faster and easier every time. Not only were these clients great to work for the wife made us some of the best chocolate chip cookies we ever tasted and man were they good. We enjoyed doing the job they needed and had fun doing it for them and playing with their puppy on our lunch break. You know most all people just want a good job for a fair price and Anjie's List is the best place I know to find that. Thanks for everything, Al
