We have used Birkenmeier and sons for several construction jobs at our home in Clayton. Each time, they did a great job and exceeded our expectations.Al was great communicating throughout the projects. He is detail oriented and provided highest quality work. He is experienced and able to help develop space options…and he has a great team! We would highly recommend his company for any remodeling projects.

Al Birkenmeier and his team were amazing. From the bidding process to the final stages of our home renovation, Al was communicative and thorough. We completed a large project - gut kitchen, primary bath and backyard renovation, and the process was really smooth and professional and all of the subs used were the same. If questions or complications came up, as they do with a reno this magnitude, Al took care of it in a timely and effective manner. The workmanship is top level and the communication clear, honest and consistent. The team showed up every single day, on time, and were professional, respectful and talented. I would 10/10 recommend Al and his team, and I am grateful we found him for our renovation. It looks amazing and we are so happy with the result and the confidence that it was done the right way.

Al and his guys were fantastic. They were kind and will to work my project into their busy schedule. They also gave me individual quotes for each project I was looking to price out for now and in the future. I know their work is top notch as they also replaced my parents kitchen.

After an unexpected flash freeze and 3 pipes bursting in my kitchen, I came home to a flooded main level. It was devastating! Being that I live in a Century home I was hesitant about hiring just anyone. Keeping the aesthetics of a Century home was a must for me. Al Birkenmeier was recommended to me as he has many years of experience in building homes from the ground up and remodeling. I could not have been more pleased with the results! Al and team are extremely professional and go ABOVE & BEYOND to not only get the job done but to do it RIGHT. You don't find many people that will do more than the original plan just to make it right, but they did! It seems every corner we turned a new issue would arise, mainly because the house is so old, but the team never waivered! They fixed everything they came across and made it right! I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Al, Jonny, Bobby, & the rest of the team for not only giving me the kitchen of my dreams, but being on top of everything!

Al and his subs did an excellent job, delivered everything when they said they would, worked with us to overcome some small bumps that were introduced by the prior contractor (who would get a 0 review if that were possible) and left us with a lovely bathroom that came out better than I ever expected. I would highly recommend them.

We love the final product. They did a good job coordinating all the professionals between flooring, tile, electric, plumbing, etc. They also worked well with the designer at RSI who designed the kitchen and supplied the cabinets, counters and floors. Cost below is total. Labor was $68,390. Job did take 4 months, but it was a very old city home (built in 1896). But we couldn't be happier now.

We hired Al and his team to install four columns on our front patio. Beyond getting the job done correctly, they were on time, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves. We are very happy with the quality of their work as well. We’d 100% work with them again and would certainly recommend them to others.

Al was great to work with. We did a full bathroom renovation and it was quite the job. Al was very thorough and detailed and does things the right way, which we really appreciated. Al Birkenmeier and his team are Phenomenal Professionals! We have an over 100 year old house and nothing is square! Al and his team did everything to insure we loved our new kitchen. We couldn't be happier. The work was precision and beautifully finished. Everyone on Al's team was professional and great to work with. We love our new kitchen. Work completed included: Replacing Double Doors with single door and windown in outside wall. Removing old cabinets, plumbing, wiring. dry wall, tile floor, and ceiling. Replaced beams under kitchen floor that were rotted. Replaced Sub Floor, Removed Cast Iron Stack found in Wall for upstairs bathroom. Rewired Kitchen, moved plumbing to outside wall. Installed cabinets, counter tops and applicances. Painted walls and wood work. installed new lighting.

From start to finish we were very pleased with the work and service provided by Al and team. This was the first large scale remodeling project that we've had done, so we were lost at the beginning. Al was very responsive, answered all of our questions, and never made us feel as if we were a burden. During demo, we were faced with some surprises once the drywall was down. Al took it all in stride and assured us that there was a solution to each issue; and there was. We were very impressed with the quality of the carpentry skills and attention to detail from Al and his team. Our new kitchen and half bath look AMAZING! We will definitely look to work with Al Birkenmeier and Sons for any of our future home improvement projects!

The project could not have been better… Al, his people and subs do exceptional work and are terrific to work with. I’ve used several contractors over the years and Birkenmeier & Sons are clearly the best. The finish carpentry is amazing. Al kept us informed throughout the project, was very reliable to come work when promised, vacuumed at the end of each day, had useful suggestions, and completed the work in a timely way. I can’t say enough about the quality work and expertise they provide, as well as the customer service… the communication, friendliness, and responsiveness couldn’t have been better. Al will be my first call the next time I need work done.

Al Birkenmeier and his team were all very professional and a pleasure to work with. After collecting multiple bids for the project, we felt Al was the most thorough and took the time to really talk us through what was needed and what to expect. His work was of high quality and was extremely reasonable in costs. Some of the work uncovered pre-existing issues that needed attention, and Al took care of it all. We highly recommend Al and hope to use his services again for future projects!

Al is the best contractor in St. Louis. Al built our extension in 2016 and the result was outstanding. So when we decided to remodel our kitchen and bathrooms, we thought of him first. Once again, the result exceeded our expectations. The project was completed on time, on budget, and with meticulous attention to detail. The best part: each room of our mid-century house features custom trim that is unique to the period. Al recreated all of it by hand, including crown, ceiling, doorway, chair rail, and even a custom mirror for the powder room. Our old house doesn't look renovated, it looks brand new. If you are considering a project that requires craftsmanship and detail, I suggest you reach out to Al.

Al rebuilt my porch during the pandemic. All went great. There was a window to be replaced that didn't come in before the work was completed. Al called me when it came in to schedule installation. It was now during the height of the pandemic. I was concerned about keeping an older parent safe so asked Al to wait to install the window. He was very agreeable to what made me comfortable with the situation. I called him a couple months later and scheduled the installation. He came and installed it. I'm very grateful that during a difficult time he respected my views and rearranged his work schedule. Will definitely hire again.

From the first time Al came out to look at a laundry list of projects at our home, he was consistently generous with his time and very responsive as we narrowed in on what project to tackle first. He suggested a crown molding for our living room and dining room that was slightly wider than what we initially brought to him, and his judgment turned out to be better than ours. On the two install days, he and his partner arrived exactly when he said they would, and executed the project with great attention to detail. Our plaster walls and ceilings are far from square, but Al was able to work some magic and make it all work. When we're ready to move to the next projects on our list, we'll definitely be reaching back out to Al.

In a nutshell, Al does what he says, and says what he does. From my initial conversation with him, his integrity was quite apparent. The professionalism, communication, cleanliness, punctuality, reasonable costs, and his years of experience to make the project better are just some traits that make Al a stand-out contractor. I cannot imagine using anyone else for future projects. I am not one to give high accolades, as nowadays there always tends to be at least one notable thing that goes wrong. Look no further!! Al is the best general contractor in the area!! We hired Al almost 7 years ago for a large scale home remodel (new floors, new windows, removal of load bearing walls, etc.) and he and his team were great to work with. Al and foreman arrived daily by 7 am & worked hard all day. He did not delay our project by setting up side projects during our construction. He was flexible with us when we changed our minds or had new ideas and he worked hard to get our project done on time and kept to our budget. There are no surprises with Al. He held weekly meetings at our house to show us what he had accomplished and the plan for moving forward. He was so professional, but also approachable and would take a call from us anytime. This was the first time we've ever tackled a home remodel and we had no idea what we were doing. Al guided us the entire way. A few of our neighbors saw how hard he worked and hired him to do similar jobs (remove load bearing walls, widen doorways to open up the flow of the house) at their homes. Over the years, we've contacted Al to get advice on various home projects and he is always there to give advice or come over to check things out himself. About 2 years ago, we had an issue with a custom shower he installed and he sent the glass company out to correct our problem and he must have paid the fee because we were told there was no charge. He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to various trades (good, trustworthy plumbers, electricians, carpet layers, etc.) and is always willing to share his contacts with us. We recently called Al to get advice on a new front door. He stopped over on his way out with his wife to take a look and get measurements. His customer service is unbelievable! If Al has an opening in his schedule, setup a time to meet him. You will know immediately that he is a great man for the job. He enjoys what he does and it shows! Thank you so much, Al!!! It went extremely well. The new baseboards match the original ones perfectly and the craftmanship is outstanding. Before starting the project Al explained everything to us in detail. Al and Bobby were polite, efficient and cleaned up the mess as good as I would have and I am a stickler for that. Al Birkenmeier has done 6 different jobs for us over the past 5 years and every job is outstanding. We trust them to do high quality work at a very fair price. We hired Birkenmeir and Sons to install a sliding French door into a three seasons room, and we are thrilled with the results. Al and Bobby had to create an opening from the living room and cut through an exterior brick wall to create the space needed to install the door. They were extremely neat, made sure to clean up as they went, and communicated what they would be doing each day. The most impressive part was their attention to detail. They were able to match the trim in the interior as well as matching the trim and bricks on the exterior. The door looks like it has always been a part of the house. I would highly recommend Birkenmier and Sons for any remodeling jobs and will absolutely be using them again for future projects.
