Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

Called to repair a small crack in the lateral sewer line (outdoor) that created a large sink hole in the yard. A scope and video of the lateral line is necessary for the bidding process and to ensure a reimbursement from a local municipality. Each plumber typically reviews the video before a site visit to see the damage and review information like depth, distance, location to the sewer district line, etc. Called Roto Rooter to get pricing for the scoping / video and they would not give a price upfront, unlike EVERY other LOCAL plumber I worked with. Should have ended communication right there. Ended up hiring another company to video the line for $170, which they provided for me to send to every other bidding plumber. When I called Roto Rooter for the bid, they didn't want to see the video and didn't ask for any diagramming or other pertinent information up front. When the technician showed up, he immediately began asking questions every other plumber was able to assess independently as part of the bidding process: How deep is the sink hole? How deep is the line? I pointed out to him that the line had already been scoped and recorded and the video could likely address those questions. He said he didn't have access to the video and would have to charge me another $200+ to video the line himself. Then he asked for a diagram, which no other plumber has requested and insisted he'd need that. At that point, I asked to end the encounter said I wouldn't need Roto Rooter. He then insisted on calling his manager to, I guess, try to salvage the situation. When the manager wasn't available - after 15 minutes of waiting - he called MY local municipality without my permission, got a city clerk that I know on the line and passed his phone to me to try to prove that I was somehow mistaken about this process. It was beyond unprofessional and insulting. I'm sure the plumber knows more than me about the job and about the process, but there are plenty of HIGHLY rated and recommended LOCAL plumbers here in St. Louis with just as much experience, knowledge and know-how that don't make the process so time consuming, frustrating and insulting.

They got the sewer unclogged and were reasonably priced.

We've been in our house for 40 years. I think just over time drains just get plugged and they are who we call. Other people that we checked with was about the same price. They are fine. You can rely on them. My first impression was favorable. They are dependable. You know you're not getting somebody who doesn't know what they are doing.

Their prices have been the same pretty much over the years. It's just 1 person and it normally takes maybe 30 minutes, maybe not that long. One time it was the bathroom, one time it was the other bathroom, one time it was the kitchen.

They were fine. It was very inline with everybody else - average. We have used them many times over the years and we've always been satisfied with them. I would definitely say they are very dependable service. The people are dependable, courteous and on time.

We've not had a bad experience. They leave things very clean. They are dependable. They do what we have them out to do. They're polite. They're on time. It doesn't take them a very long time. Their prices are similar to other services that we have used. It's very routine and we haven't had any problems.

It took him at least three hours to get the blockage done. I think we got our money's worth because he was out there for three or four hours. He was really good. Actually we thought it was going to be hours later but they came out the same day.

We had a plumbing company come out and then used Roto-Rooter because the plumbing company couldn't do what we needed done. The price was fine. Actually since he wasn't able to fix it and he really worked at it, he took $30 off. They were very responsive. He was there within an hour.

great, no problems since then. Fair price, came when said, called ahead.

Everything was excellent but it was overpriced.

We used the plumbing service recently. They replaced some galvanized pipes with copper. They did a fantastic job. I think the price was reasonable. Very meticulous. They only give you a 4 hour window, so sometimes they couldn't find a plumber. I had to reschedule two or three times. They seem to have competent people working there and in general they're reliable.

They cleaned out the kitchen sink drain for free because it was the same line as the first time. Outside from being very expensive, they stayed by their warranty. I probably wouldn't use them again because of their price. I probably wouldn't recommend them because of their price. It took less than an hour to complete the work. They cleaned up very well. I called them, they came out, and did their thing.

It didn't really seem like a deal, my total price of what I had to pay. I had to pay more than what the Big Deal was for. I'd probably grade them a B for price because I didn't feel like I really got a deal out of that.

The tech didn't want to go under my home, wanted me to give him directions under the house, and kept asking me to stick my head Into the crawl space to look at things I couldn't possibly see from where I was standing. He said to check under my toilet for a leak, the cost would be 295 dollars, plus the cost of a new wax seal. My toilet is brand new. He clearly didn't want to be there. I just said thanks but no thanks. He did point out my AC was dripping under the house and told me how to fix it myself, which was just a longer hose. I appreciated his advice, that was about it.

Had to call 3 times to see where they were. Appointment was scheduled between 9 and 11, they arrived close to 2pm. Way over priced. Paid $250 for a small job. Had to call another plumber to fix the work he did. Never will use them again.

I would definitely hire again. They were helpful and professional.

The staff member who answered phone at Roti-Rooter would not give any kind of ballpark amount. She said their company did not allow that. She said you just have to have the person come to your house, and they would give you a free estimate when they arrived. I asked several times for a ballpark figure of any kind, giving her as broad of a question of whether it might be closer to $40, $200, or $2000... she would not tell me anything. That way of doing business is terrible and seems kind of scammy. Any reputable company should be able to give a rough estimate or at least some kind of "our residential customers in zip code ##### usually pay about $xxx." Offering a $30 coupon to Angie's List customers is meaningless when the technician can pull any price out of his or her backside when they arrive, based on how affluent the home owner looks, etc. We will never do business with a company who operates like they have chosen to.

He was very thorough. The guy that came was really good. I would call them back if I had any other problems like that.

There was 1 person and he cleaned up after himself.

They showed up right away and got it fixed. The price was outrageous but I had no choice. It took them an hour and they used about $20 worth of pvc pipe to repair the sink.

It was a difficult clog, and took a few hours to clear, but the serviceman got it cleared and working fine again! In addition he replaced my old under sink plumbing without my asking him!! Excellent service!!!

I had a good experience with them. The work was done at one of my rental properties. They did what they said they were going to do and they charged a good price. The worker was acceptable, fine and good.
