They replaced the roof on my mother's house. They were very professional, polite and nice. I was impressed they had men on the job ranging from young to very experienced. The quality of work is great. They completed the job quickly and left the job site clean. I have recommended Larry Vaught Roofing to friends of mine and will continue to.

They did a great job with the repairs. They took a lot of time doing the repairs correctly so that, hopefully there will be no further problem. I thought the price was a little high at first but when he was done, the quality of the work was well worth it. I will definitely use this company in the future.
Description of Work: They came out and did a number of repairs on the entire roof. Installed step flashings in two separate areas and and re applied metal flashings and counter flashings around the chimney area. They installed Johnny caps on roof plumbing vents and also gutter diverters on two sides of the house that had a problem. He also replaced a couple of blown-up shingles while he was here.

It went very well. Roofer showed up at time promised. All work was covered by $99 deal. He still issued me a $100 credit toward any future work with no expiration. I felt that went beyond the deal which implied credit toward work at time of inspection. I have dealt with Vaught Roofing in the past and found them to be very honest.

Dan visited the site first to inspect the roof. He was courteous and efficient. He answered all of my questions and was a consummate professional. Chris Morgan delivered the estimate. He took plenty of time to walk me through the details and options. He also answered all of my questions. I went with another roofing company in the end, but I cannot speak highly enough of the professionalism I experienced with the Vaught team.

They did an excellent job. We had a dark hallway and now, we have a daylight in there. We had a ranch house and it is pretty good size. They did a fine job. I didn't have any problems with him. It was good. They picked up and did a good cleaning. There were some shingles that were left on the hedge.

Very well, he found the possible leak in the flashing that I was not aware of, turns out the leak I thought was from the exhaust fan vent was actually from that flashing when we went in the attic afterwards.

They came back and did exactly what they were going to do. I didn’t have to be there. It was great. Scheduling was easy for the second visit. He scheduled with me verbally the day of the inspection. One of the things they wanted to do were quite expensive and we decided to skip that. We did everything else that they recommended. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: They came back again, did some shingles replacement and did some flushing. They did preventive maintenance on the roof so we won’t have leaks in the future. They found a hole on the roof that must have been caused by a falling tree limb. They did a general roof repair.

It turned out fine. I was happy to get a professional up on the roof to look things over and get a chance to fix it up before we get a real problem. They did a fine job cleaning the gutters and came back to do the other work. I had no problem. It was not difficult to get an appointment. They were on time and did it in a timely manner.
Description of Work: I used the big deal of Larry L. Vaught Roofing Inc. They came out and did a free gutter cleaning, which as expected was an opportunity for them to inspect the roof and see if it needed any repairs. They identified and found it. They invited me up on the roof to point some of the things out. They did some repairs.

They didn’t charge me anything and it was a free quote. They did a great job. It was just a lot more expensive than I had anticipated the repair to be. They were great. The gentleman that came out was on time and professional. The quote they came back with was high. The work went ok... however, communication was terrible. We were told by the person who gave the initial estimate that there were two options - replacing the skylights, or repairing around the skylight mounts and keeping the existing skylights. Because there were two options, I contacted the employee who gave the estimate and specifically asked if the new skylights were put on, would that include repairing and building up the skylight mount. He said that yes, we didn't have to choose both for this work to be performed. Once the skylights were installed I noticed that the area around where they were mounted didn't look quite right. The installers told me that we didn't choose the option to repair and correct the skylight mount area. So even though I had specifically asked about this - they mounted new skylights to old mounts and told me it would cost another 2k to repair/make right the mounts. If Larry L. Vaught Roofing had communicated this to us properly we would have selected to have this repair work done in the first place. Additionally, after an initial call from Larry L. Vaught at the end of July to say we were scheduled for sometime at the end of August - I never heard back from them. It was upon me to call them multiple times and find out what was going on. When I called, the person in charge of scheduling was unavailable and I was told they would call back. This did not happen and I did not receive a call back until I called 2 more times to ask about the schedule. Also, they quoted us $300 to clean the gutters - the installers told us they would not be cleaning the gutters and that a gutter cleaning crew would be doing it. Then on the last day of work, the skylight installers went up and half-heartedly cleaned the gutters with just their bare hands. No hoses or anything else used- not what I would consider being a $300 gutter cleaning job. All in all pretty disappointed in the job... I wouldn't recommend these guys.

Response from Larry L. Vaught Roofing Inc
I regret your expressed dissatisfaction with the services we recently performed for you. Before replying to your review, I spoke with all personnel that were involved in your project and reviewed all records before offering the following response: Our records indicate that you originally emailed us at 8:41 PM on 6/29/2014 requesting a free estimate from us to perform various work. We called you on 6/30/2014 & scheduled an appointment to visit your address on 7/7/2014. We met by appointment on that date. A written proposal was generated on 7/8/2014 and mailed to you for your consideration. We received your signed acceptance of our proposal by mail on 7/15/2014. We called you on that date to inform you that we received your signed acceptance of Item #1, Item #4, Item #5, Item #6, Item #7, Option A, & Option B of our proposal #9186 and informed you that the work you authorized us to complete is projected to commence “The week ending 8/29/2014”, and informed you that we would call you the day before starting work. Due to missed work days resulting from bad weather, we actually were unable to start the work until 9/4/2014 (4 business days later than projected). As is our standard routine, we contacted you the day before starting the job to inform you of our intent to commence with work the following day (i.e. start work on 9/4/2014). I have no records to either deny or support whether or not you called us to make further inquiry as to when work would commence, but do have records indicating that we did provide you correspondence regarding scheduling as noted above. The work was completed on 9/5/2014. Regarding your belief that we should have included replacement of the “roof flashings” around the 4 skylight curbs once you contracted to have the “skylights” replaced, I find that we clearly & specifically quoted per item #2 of our written proposal #9186: “Detach the 4 skylights from their curbs and re-attach to curbs as necessary to furnish and install new metal roof flashings around the 4 skylight curbs”. We also provided separate quotes on the same proposal as noted per Option A; “Remove and replace the three 58” by 58” double domed (acrylic over acrylic) skylights with new double pane (glass over glass) curb mount skylights”. And, Option B; “Remove and replace the one 24” by 48” double domed (acrylic over acrylic) skylight with a new double pane (glass over glass) curb mount skylight”. You authorized us to complete Option A & Option B (i.e. replace the skylights), but you did not authorize us to replace the flashings around the 4 skylight curbs as noted per Item #2. I regret if you found this confusing, but our written proposal unambiguously provided a line item quote to replace flashings around the 4 skylight curbs and separate quotes to replace the skylights themselves. I did however check with all personal involved in your project and no one has any recollection of a discussion with you whereby they informed you we would include the cost to replace the flashings around the skylight curbs if you simply chose to have the skylights replaced. Regardless, in effort to gain your satisfaction in our company I offer to reduce the cost to replace the roof flashings around the 4 skylight curbs by 20% of the original quote as noted per item #2 of our proposal #9186 dated 7/8/2014. If you want these flashings replaced, as noted per your review, I hope you will take advantage of the considerable savings I am offering as I truly wish you to be pleased with my company. And, upon request, we will gladly take a look at the gutters to assure that all debris is removed, but we routinely do this "by hand". Sincerely, Kevin L. Vaught

Larry L. Vaught Roofing sent Dan Whitfield to my house to look at a leak I had in my window box. As a lone female, it is a bit unnerving to have strangers in my home, but Dan was an absolute professional and I was at ease immediately. I showed him the damage to my window box ceiling and told him how I had caulked and water sealed all around the window but, when the leak just continued to get worse, I realized with dread that it must be my 7 year old roof. It was. I only wish I had used Larry L. Vaught Roofing to install that roof as I believe, regardless of it being two years past "warranty", they would have repaired it....or most likely never made the mistake that cause the leak in the first place. Dan explained what had happened and everything that needed to be done and even some things he said I could do but probably didn't need to. There was no high pressure and no "sign the contract now" that I have experienced with other companies. I was told to think about it and to even get other companies out to look at it. This is a company that is evidently not afraid of their competition. I received a itemized estimate in the mail a few days after Dan came out. I was surprised at how fast the estimate came, but even more surprised at the bottom line....and that wasn't just to fix the leaking place I knew about. That also covered a place on the other side of the house that was about to do that same thing, gutter cleaning, and caulking around vent things up there. I chose the things I wanted done--pretty much everything--and faxed my signed contract back to them late in the day. I received a call from them the next morning to set up a time. The caller noted that I was having water come in and said that while they were booked into November, since my job wouldn't take a lot of time, they could possibly get someone out on one of the next two Saturdays. That first Saturday I was gone all day, but by early the next week, I received a call with a day and time less than a week away. My fixer guy ended up being Dan--he said it works out that way some time--and I felt very confident with him up on my roof. A few hours later, he tells me what all he's done and gives me things to look for the next time it rains. He tells me about ice damming and what to look for there and we also discuss gutter cleaning and another potential roof issue I asked about that he thought might have just been the result of some very clogged gutters. Very pleasant experience. Dan even removed my tarp job complete with giant tarp and ten fifty pound sand bags. AWESOME!!! I am confident my roof is repaired and if, by chance, there is still a problem, I am even more confident they will find the issue and resolve it. Thanks Dan and Larry L. Vaught Roofing. I can't wait for it to rain!!!

I wish to thank you very much for your kind comments. I especially appreciate that you took the time to describe your total experience with our company and am quite proud to hear that you conclude we are a company you can trust. Regrettably, the construction industry as a whole is not necessarily considered to be an industry full of trustworthy contractors, and justifiably so. However, there are some truly good / trustworthy contractors out there and I am pleased to find you were able to discover one of them (us). I thank you once again for your posted review as it will undoubtedly help other Angie’s List members discover a roofing contractor they can trust, and provide us the opportunity to offer our services to other great Angie’s List members like you! I regret we were unable to perform the work within the time frame you desired it completed by. It has simply been a very busy year for us, which has created a significant back log for our services. I only wish we could double our staff during periods of large volume, but it takes us many months / years to add a few more employees due to the high level of on going training we provide them. They won't work on your roof unless they make money off of the labor and all the material. Refuse to do the job.
Description of Work: I called to get the service for roofing. I advised the provider Vaught Roofing that I had purchased the shingle and needed the rest of the material and labor. After 47 years in business we have learned that in virtually ever instance whereby a customer furnishes materials and the contractor is simply to provide labor, numerous problems occur, including: insufficient quantities of materials furnished to complete the project, improper materials provided (i.e. wrong type / length of fasteners provided, non-code complying materials provided), poor quality materials provided, necessary flashings of proper dimension fail to be provided, etc, etc. Sorry you had hoped we would "rent" our craftsmen to you, but that is not our business model, for very good reason.

An appointment was scheduled in a timely manner and the estimator arrived on time. He was on the roof for quite awhile, then came down and explained a ton of things the roofer had done incorrectly. He said in order to fix it properly, they may need to remove some stucco, and the repairs to that would have to be done by another company. He then went back up on the roof for another extended time before leaving. While he was here, he caulked around some pipes. We got the estimate a few days later. It was for several thousand dollars, not including the additional repair that may have to be done to our stucco if we had them do the work. (We just had the house painted last year.) The explanation of what needed to be done and the high cost led us to get two additional estimates. The second one was for $500 and involved only closing five places where birds were getting in our attic. The third estimate fell between the first two and is the one we chose to do business with. I asked both subsequent estimators about the need to do what Vaught said was necessary that involved possibly removing some stucco. They separately said that was totally unnecessary. Needless to say, we have no confidence or trust in Vaught Roofing.

Response from Larry L. Vaught Roofing Inc
After reading your post, I reviewed the roof repair proposal we had prepared for you and found that we had proposed 9 separate line item repairs, to address 9 separate issues of concern. The repairs were bid separately so you had the option to choose any one or more of the 9 separate repairs quoted. One of the repairs we suggested amounted to $40.00, one was a $45.00 repair, one was a $180.00 repair, two separate repairs were $350.00 each, two separate repairs amounted to $480.00 each, one amounted to $490.00, and one amounted to $1,040.00. Two of the repairs we proposed (item #1 & item #2, quoted at $350.00 each) were submitted to address leakage attributable to ice damming, which I would not consider to be the result of faulty installation. And, one of the repairs we proposed was to simply replace a damaged flue vent cap (amount = $45.00). However, the remaining 7 separate items we proposed to address were specifically submitted to address “faulty” installation. If any of those conditions have not yet been addressed (i.e. have not yet been repaired by others) I offer to take pictures of those conditions so you can see how they are currently installed upon your roof. Then I will provide you with the installation instructions (along with illustrations) straight from the shingle manufacturer’s installation manual specific to each of those conditions we have observed, to provide you documentation that each of the conditions we proposed to repair do in fact fail to meet the prescribed methods of installation. It is never my intent to mislead or “up-sale” a customer. It is always my intent to inform customers of each and every condition observed which may result in leakage or premature failure. In fact, you will find that I specifically stated on your proposal that the kick out flashings proposed to be installed per item #9 are proposed to be installed at areas we would consider “not” to be critical areas. I simply made you aware of this faulty condition, but went on to inform you that I did not consider these repairs to be critical. I regret you feel we may not be “trustworthy”, but I can assure you that my sole intent was to provide you the most thorough information possible so you would be aware of every potential concern. Sincerely, Kevin L. Vaught
