Response from Larry L. Vaught Roofing Inc
[member name removed], Sorry you were not happy with our service or the price of our bids. Our records show that we had an appointment to meet with you between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon on Friday August 22nd, 2014, and that we were to call you 30 minutes before arrival, which we did call ahead and meet with you in that time frame. The estimator who met with you turned in the necessary information that Friday evening and we prepared a proposal which was mailed on Monday August 25th. I apologize if we did not make it clear that we were not working Saturday or Sunday and that we would mail our bid to you on Monday. When our secretaries make appointments for estimates, they always tell our customers that the estimator who meets with them will obtain the necessary information and then return it to our office where a bid will be prepared and mailed, unless special requests are made. Again, I apologize if in this instance we did not make it clear that the estimator who met with you was not going to leave you with a bid prepared on the spot. As for the fact you thought our bid was "very high" and that yours was a "small job", we will have to disagree. We gave 2 base bids to repair 2 separate leaks. One of the areas we bid to repair was not installed to meet building code requirements or to meet any asphalt shingle manufacturer's installation requirements for "low slope applications". Due to this fact, we did not bid to just replace a small area, we bid to replace the entire 8 feet by 15 feet low sloped area because it was not installed to meet building code or any standard installation instructions. There was also siding that was in disrepair that was likely contributing to the leak so we included replacing about 10 square feet of siding in order to be able to guarantee that we would get your leak stopped. The other leak we bid to repair was the result of your roof not having any step flashing installed where the roof adjoins the stucco siding above the leak. Who ever installed this roof simply applied tar between the shingles and the siding at this area, instead of installing one step flashing on each course/row of shingles and cutting the stucco siding as necessary to extend the step flashings up behind the stucco siding. We bid to cut the stucco siding out as necessary to correctly install step flashing along the 17 feet length of the wall above your leak, which is not easy or cheap, but the only way we can guarantee to stop your leak. Again, sorry we could not meet your price needs, but we do not believe in taking short cuts like using tar instead of step flashing, and it does cost more to do it right.
