A & J Drain Service LLC

The stack from our sink and washing machine had been backing up for a while. Drano didn't seem to help. Plunging helped, but only for a short while before it would back up again. The problem seemed to be getting worse on Saturday night, so Sunday morning I did a search on Angie's List for a drain service. A&J Drain Service, LLC was listed the best by far -- and the $30 coupon wasn't too shabby. A&J's website listed that they had Sunday hours, so I called Sunday morning and left a message. The owner, Marty, called just before noon to find out more about the problem. He said he could come out Sunday, but it would be an extra $100 for working on the weekend. For $100, I told him I could wait a day :) We scheduled it early (7:30am) Monday morning. Monday at 7:30a, Shawn, from A&J, calls to let us know he's running about 25 minutes late [BTW, this is why I gave Punctuality a 'B' -- not calling and/or being later would have ranked a 'C' or lower]. He went to work quickly and discovered a large build up of grease about 30 ft down from the sink. He also snaked the line from the washing machine. He advised that we flush the system out with a quart of bleach once a month to prevent future occurrences. The entire visit lasted about 30 minutes. It was a very pleasant experience and I would use A&J again and recommend them to others.

The service tech arrived about 15 minutes late, however it was an early morning appointment (7:30) so I'm willing to cut him some slack. When he arrived he was courteous and prepared to go right to work. He was responsive to questions, explained what he was doing and what he expected to encounter. From the time he arrived it only took about 45 minutes to complete the clean out. Overall I was very pleased with their service.

Excellent job-took care to put on "booties" before coming in house, seemed very knowledgeable, worked quickly & professionally.

We are very satisfied with the work that was done, he stuck with it till the end and made sure we were up and running. He was prompt and efficient.

I called around 7:30 pm because the lateral line keep over flowing. He said he could come out within an hour but that after hours house calls cost $100 on top the service. That seemed like a reasonable amount to pay given the last minute nature of my call. He said he could schedule me for the next morning if I could wait, but with storms rolling in I didn't want to risk it. I told him to come on out. He said he be at my house in an hour and he showed up right on time. He was polite and professional. We talked a little bit during the service and he explained to me what he was doing and what he thought the problem was and what he was doing to fix the problem. He is highly rated on Angie's list for a good reason, he is good at his job and communicates well.

We had a water/sewer back up into our basement. We discovered it Tuesday night. Had MSD come out at midnight, but their line was open. Called A&J before 7 am on Wednesday morning, and their first available appt was at 1 pm, but they said if something opened up or if they completed other jobs early they would call and come to our house before 1 pm. Sure enough, they called us at about 10:30 that morning and were here by 11:00. Sean and his assistant were polite, professional and quick. They were able to open the sewer line with no problem (the clog was in our lateral line). We used our Angie's list coupon and saved $30, so our final cost was $105. We would definitely recommend them to others.

Bathroom tub was draining slow. Called A&J, they came out the next day and showed up on time. Worked quickly and fixed the problem. Will use them again.

He then ran the big drain snake through the roof vents all the way through the drains, about 85 feet. He also replace the under sink drain pipes in the kitchen which were corroded through. Then he snaked the upstairs bath drain all the way. Excellent work, fast. very professional, wore clean booties every time they came back in the door from the roof work, etc. I asked for a stack of cards to refer people to A & J Drain. I will use them again and recommend to anyone with a drain / plumbing problem without hesitation. All the drains run great now. He also said to call back if there was any problem with those drains and he would take care of it.

I called A & J Drain Service because I had a blocked kitchen drain. Because they are located too far from where I live they do not service my area. Despite this they gave me the name and number of another person. I was very happy with their referral as they did a wonderful job and at reasonable price. Most companies would just stop after telling you that they don't service your area but A & J Drain went the extra step to lead me in the right direction.

Excellent service. He arrived at the appointed time. Was very professional and friendly. He did an efficient and thorough job quickly finding the problem in the line under our basement floor. He explained our issue in detail, educated us how this problem develops, and advised us how to move forward with a contractor we would need to do the repairs. He marked the floor to show a contractor where the line runs and where the actual failure is located. I highly recommend this service to others.

I called A & J Drain service around 10:30 am on April 24th and talked to Marty. I explained the sewer back up problem and asked if he could get to us that day. he said because of all the rain he was very busy but he could fit me in around 5:00 pm. I said that would be fine. Marty called me back about 15 minutes later and said he had a call close to my house and if I was available he would be able to do the work in 30 minutes. I agreed, Marty and his assistant showed up on time, went immediately to work and cabled out the line. I was sure there was a break in the sewer line because I had seen smoke the previous summer when MSD had the sewers tested. Marty suggested having the lateral line inspected with a camera and then I could show the county the DVD and the repair would be done at under the lateral sewer repair program. I told him I would think it over. I talked it over with my wife, called Marty back later that day and we agreed to scope the line the next day. Marty and his assistant [I apologize for not remembering his name because he was a hard worker] were held up by another customer's problem so he called and we agreed to a later time. They set up the equipment, explained everything we were looking at on the monitor and went to the house and out to the main sewer line. Marty saw some small roots that were still in the clay pipe sections and in one part of the PVC pipe. He went and got the cable system again, used an expanding cutter and ran it out to the main lin. He again used the scope and saw a few small roots still in the section fits. He again got a brand new expanding cutter that was slightly larger than the one he had used, ran it out a few more times, and for the third time ran the camera through the pipe. It was clean. Marty went and got another piece of equipment the measured the depth of the PVC, figured out the area of the PVC break, marked the area and depth on the grass, put our flags, and gave me the DVD of the sewer line. Marty only charged me for the agreed to price of the camera for the second day's work. He also accepted Angie's List coupons for both days work. He called up the contractor for St Louis County's lateral sewer line and handed me his phone to talk to the man. When he found out I lived in Crestwood he said they had their own contractor and I would have to contact the City. I will not go into the situation with Crestwood, but when they would not do anything I called Marty and asked if he would talk to the Engineer. He agreed and did his best to help me.

The technician was supposed to come at 3pm, but was able to arrive at 1:30 which was great. He came in, put the booties on his feet and checked out the drain in the basement. I explained that I had juiced an enormous amount of fruit and vegetables and tried to slowly feed the pulp down the garbage disposal, but it backed up all over the basement floor. I could no longer use water in the kitchen or the washing machine, as both used the clogged drain pipe. The technician asked if it was alright that he had a trainee with him, which was fine, and they proceeded to carry in equipment and snake the drain. When he was finished about 20 minutes later, he said they had to go out about 30 feet but everything was clear. He ran water down the pipe for several minutes and offered to clean up some of the overflow. The young guys were very courteous, quick and did a good job. I'll recommend them and use them again. The normal service fee was $110 but with the Angie's list discount, it was $80.

The service was straightforward and professional. Can't say much about cleaning a drain, except to say they knew what they were doing, they were cleaned up afterward, and it was as good a 'drain cleaning experience' as one might expect.

When I called A&J he apologized that his people could not come until the next morning! That was fine, the rain had stopped and there was no emergency. The men called if it was okay if they came half an hour before the scheduled time. It certainly was! They came, checked to make sure that the toilet drain was not also clogged, and cleared the drain completely. They left no mess at all, and put all the gunk into a plastic bag. They were polite, efficient, and extremely effective. If every service company was as good as they, life would be a lot easier!

Everything went well. The clog was in a bend in the pipe, so they were unable to clear it with the snake. They returned the very next day with the water jet tool and cleared it. That did increase the price a bit. Marty gave me some excellent tips on how to avoid garbage disposal clogs in the future. The price for the sewer line cleaning was more than I have paid in the past, but Marty had a coupon on Angie's list and quite honestly, I felt like I was dealing with a trustworthy business owner and would receive good service, even if the price was a bit higher. And, as it turned out, it was worth it and I got great service.

Excellent responsiveness. Professional service. Good value. First call was taken on a Friday. Work was scheduled for a following business day because of high work load. Saturday service was volunteered. Drains were cleaned efficiently. Explanations were provided about exactly what caused the clogs. Shoe covers were worn. Cleanup was done. Price was fair. Angie's List discount provided. Providers were personable. Great job guys!

The work was completed and everything is working great. Hopefully this doesn't happen again but if it does I will call A & J Drain again.

Woke up one morning to find our laundry room/furnace room flooded. The sewer line had backed up. Called A&J. When the serviceman appeared he was very polite. The drain was hidden under the water heater but he found it making suggestion how to access easier. He cleared the line and cleaned the area as best he could. I really appreciated his courtesy. I will definitely call on A & J again.

When St Louis had the heavy rains the drains in our backyard overflowed and threatened to flood our garage. After the rains subsided, it took well over an hour for the catch basins in the backyard to recede. I called A&J Drain Service on the Monday after the rains. After a few quick questions about the drainage system and the last time it had been serviced, we set a date for them to come out. They quoted an estimated price over the phone, which seemed reasonable. Because of the cold weather during the week, we needed to reschedule their visit a couple of times, but finally succeeded late in the week before the major snow storm that hit the region. A&J showed up promptly. They quickly diagnosed the problem (even had me peer down the outside sewer pipe to see years worth of tissue and other debris clogging the pipes) and began water jetting the drain pipes. They even cleaned up the catch basin, which was not in their original quote. They completed the job in less than two hours. They were very professional, took some time to educate me about drainage issues, and were reasonably priced. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Awesome service. Marty helped my Dad out of a bad situation. Another company had taken advantage of my Dad and had charged him hundreds of dollars with an estimate of many hundreds more. When I explained the situation to Marty he checked out the situation, did what needed to be done and did an extreme kindness for my Dad. This happened at 5:30 on a Sunday afternoon when I was just beginning to do the week's laundry. I read through the reviews and called A & J Drain Service. The owner, Marty, answered the phone and came out himself to fix the problem. Within an hour of my call everything was fixed. He took the time to show me the problem, explain why it happened, and show me what it looked like when everything was back in working order. I wrote my check for the price he quoted and he gave me $30 back for being Angie's List member. Everything good you read in other reviews is true. I was impressed.

I called and begged for immediate service and they were out by the next morning. Quick, professional, freindly--everything you want from service people.
