This was the first time that we've used a contractor so we didn't know what to expect. We chose GA Chott based on their Angie's List reviews and were not disappointed. James was the gentleman that was the lead on our project. He was here promptly every morning and worked hard all day every day. We were so happy with James' willingness to listen to us and his attention to detail. We were very happy with the subcontractors that they used. The plumber had a huge job. Our stacks and sewage pipes were old cast iron and were rusted and cracked so had to be replaced. He also had to plumb for the new toilet, shower, double sinks, and laundry sink in an adjoining room. He did a great job and was very pleasant and helpful. Our new basement bathroom is beautiful. Fabulous tile work in the shower and beautiful vanity with quartz top and double recessed medicine cabinets have made a empty storage space into a lovely additional bathroom. What a pleasure to have access to water in the basement. No more lugging buckets of water down the stairs to clean or do projects, just to lug them back up to change the water and then back down again. Thank You GA Chott. You have made life so much easier for us and given us a space to be proud of. Thank you James for your hard work. And a special thanks to Angie who is the one who makes all the arrangements, appointments, inspections, and scheduling, for keeping us up to date and on track. For keeping us informed almost daily as to who was coming, at what time, and what was going to happen. We couldn't have been more lucky in who we chose to do our bathroom.

They were very good; they gave me a very complete bid-very detailed bid which I was pleased with. They didn't charge me anything for coming out. He was very professional, very experienced, and had good reviews with Angielists -which is why I called him out. He also seemed very knowledgeable especially about older homes and I have a home that is about 100 years old.

We had a great experience with this remodel! We were allowed to purchase all our own fixtures, lights, etc. and they installed them with no problem. I feel the price was very competitive. I was very happy with all the work done. The finished product is beautiful! When there was something I was not completely happy with, it was corrected to my satisfaction. The communication was impressive. Extremely prompt call backs. Scott was so nice to work with and all workers in our home were very polite and respectful! Everything was cleaned up at end of the workday. Darryll came several times during remodel to check on the job. I feel they went the extra mile in every way!
Description of Work: We updated our master bath. Had shower redone with marble tile along with the tub surround and front. New heated porcelain floor and marble vanity tops. Also replaced lavatories, faucets and lighting.

Based upon my experience, I think this company is excellent in every way. Responsiveness, follow-through and follow-up They were excellent in their scheduling, promptness, ability to answer questions, return phone calls, etc. They made me feel like I was their most important customer. At no time was I ever left to wonder or be anxious about anything. Professionalism of Staff Every employee I came into contact or talked with was very polite and knowledgeable in their areas of expertise. The gentleman that did the work was extremely polite, answered all of my questions, was clean and neat, and his quality of tile work and general, overall installation of the new shower area was excellent. There was nothing that needed remediation or follow-up after he completed the installation. He cleaned up the work area after every day's work and vacuumed the bathroom, hallway, and foyer after the job was completed. Other than having a brand new and beautiful shower, you'd never know he was here. Price and Value GA Chott was the lowest bidder of the three bids I received. While price is important to me the impression I get when discussing the job with a representative, quality of work, and cleanliness are almost as important. I do not want to hassle with jobs that drag out, unresponsive staff, a dirty work area (after all, this is where I live), or problems afterwards. With GA Chott, I had no issues at all and I am completely satisfied. I highly recommend them if you want quality work done, at a fair price with no hassle.

Very well overall. From the beginning, Darryll was easy to work with. He listened to our ideas for the design. Also, he didn't push more expensive details, accepting our desire to reuse the ceiling fan, garbage disposal, dishwasher, and refrigerator so we could save money. He also offered alternatives in finishes and products so we could make the best decision for design/style vs our needs and budget. Our final cost ended up being very close to the original contract proposal. Ryan, the foreman, and Angie (office manager and Darryll's wife) were great.. They communicated clearly and in a timely manner with me on all aspects of the project. Angie kept me up-to-date as to when various things would be happening during the project. She coordinated permits, subcontractors, etc with my schedule. Ryan explained what he was doing at various times and happily answered my many questions. I was around most of the time during the work, but Ryan had a key for when I couldn't be here. I felt comfortable with that. The only problem with the project involved the flooring. We decided on a flooring company who delivered the prefinished hardwood for the subcontractor to install. During the flooring install I found several bad boards had been installed and more than a few boards had dents on the beveled edges. Also, an installed threshold piece was cracked down the middle. Darryll had them return to make the repairs and withheld their pay until I was satisfied, adequate but not ideal. Two months after the project was complete, we had a small leak under the sink. I called. Darryll sent a plumber out the next work day to make the repair (replacing a too short pipe with a longer one). We've had no problems since. Now four months after we wrote our last check, we're very happy with our remodel and enjoying our roomier, fresh kitchen!
Description of Work: This was primarily a kitchen/family room remodel, including removing the wall between the kitchen and family room to open it up into a great room. About a two foot section of wall in the living room was also removed to open up the living room/dining room space. They replaced old paneling in the family room with new drywall. They installed new cherry kitchen cabinetry, laminate counters, and stainless steel sink/faucet. They installed ceiling can lights, island pendant lights, and under cabinet lighting. They also removed old carpeting and ceramic tile flooring in the kitchen, family room, hall, dining room and living room and replaced it with new pre-finished hardwood and colonial baseboards throughout those areas.

Darrell came out and asked what I wanted done, took some measurements and shortly thereafter sent me a contract. James was person who did most of the work. He, and the others when needed, were very prompt, worked like dogs and left my house very clean at the end of each day. As a matter of fact, my garage was cleaner when they left than it was when he started. They put plastic on all the furniture in the bedroom, protected my carpet upstairs and flooring downstairs. It was a fairly slow process, but James was extremely picky about his work. He was very precise which I liked very much. Darrell got the needed permits, lined up the plumber and electrician. The bid he gave me would have been right on point except I made a couple changes and he took care of them. Angie was very helpful and very good to work with. I would gladly call them again if I needed any more work done and I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Completely tore out old bathroom down to the studs. Took 20" from the bedroom to make bathroom larger. Had to move a window to accomplish this. Removed bathtub and made new shower. Also had to replace the floor in a second bathroom because it had rotted. Put down new subfloor and new floor and replaced toilet and vanity.

. It took a while. Lots of choosing and waiting for items to come in. Some to us and some to Chott. Once started they worked very hard. I especially want to mention employee Ryan who is a master of all trades. Things went fairly smoothly, but no matter if something came up Ryan, sometimes with Darryl's advice, would make it work. The craftsmanship is very good. We love our new bathroom. Also, they were very responsive to any questions we had. Angie would always call back. They were always there, on time.
Description of Work: Tore out existing shower, tub and enclosure, floor, toilet, old tile flooring and wall tile, and cabinet top. Replaced with quartz counter top, stand alone tub (which we purchased), glass shower enclosure and new fixtures.. Installed Onyx panels in shower and along wall bases around standing tub area. Installed new toilet. Installed new ceramic floor tiles. Cut and framed existing mirror. Painted walls and woodwork.

What nice people to work with. Darryll and Angie (the owners) are terrific --- extremely responsive and they really care about getting the job done right. The gents who worked on my house (Rich the painter, Dennis and crew for the flooring and carpet, and perhaps others) were polite, pleasant, neat, and ON TIME. I completely trusted the crew, and left a house key with Angie so the guys could come and go as needed. At the end of the job, there was a little bit of final paint touch-up to do; Rich was again pleasant and glad to be of service. At the end of each visit, the work areas were completely clean -- not a scrap of trash left behind. I never, ever want to hire a company that gives the cheapest bid. Darryll was very clear from the outset that he is not the least expensive contractor in town, but that he and his crews do superior work that the customer can trust. This is great advice -- he's so right! I definitely plan on calling Darryll and Angie again a little later in the year to remodel my kitchen and other living spaces.
Description of Work: Basement work: Repaired damage from frozen water line, including drywall, flooring and paint. They also replaced the carpet in the remainder of the basement and stairs, did misc. drywall repairs and painted the remainder of the basement. Misc: Installed a new mail box post and box (which I provided), utilizing cement for a permanent installation.

Overall experience was good. They did a good job in protecting existing carpet and furnishings. We do not have a walk out basement so all of the materials had to be carried down steps. Very punctual in starting the work each day. At end of day the worker explained what would be done the next day. GA Chott has a nice small showroom where you can select your cabinets, counter tops, etc. When discussing your options with them be sure to ask all the questions that you have concerns about. I really needed a fan fixture with a light and that was not offered until I brought it up after the walls and electrical had been installed. The size of the room needed the extra lighting for the shower area. I forgot to ask the question in the beginning as to if the fan fixture had a light. It was able to be added but at an additional expense and a separate switch was not able to be installed for the light so the light and fax operate on the same switch. We opted to do the painting to save some money and that was a bad idea. Have them do all of the work. If you want a beige electrical outlet and switches instead of white you will need to tell them. They installed white and we have beige throughout the house and was not given an option and didn't think about it till it was done. So we will have to live with it till we can change them out. I had ceramic tile installed for the flooring. I asked them to butt them tightly together (to look like hardwood floor) and that was not done as tight as I would have liked it to be. Did a nice job laying the floor overall. We purchased the flooring from GA Chott recommended tile store. There was a problem with the process of cleaning the floor and sealing the grout. My opinion is that if the worker laying the floor was use to installing ceramic he should have known how to clean the tile and that it should have been sealed. I had to get some special grout cleaner and sealer after GA Chott called the tile store. They did take care of getting it cleaned properly and sealed. The shower doors were left off of the proposal so that was another expense that had to be added on. All of the trades were professional and did a good job. GA Chott took care of all of the permits. We would have them do more work for us in the future.

This was my first experience hiring a contractor and it could not have gone better. Darryll gave me an estimate and contract very quickly and it was very reasonable. The contract was professional and outlined each component they would do. They did everything outlined and then some! Every day and between projects, mike would clean up after himself and vacuum/sweep any area that got even slightly dusty. Mike was always on time bright and early, he was happy to explain what he was doing and answer any questions I had. He consulted me when there were any ideas or concerns regarding the project as it was in progress. I plan to bring Darryll in again on the second phase of my bathroom (vanity, tile, backsplash) as soon as it's ready. I have already recommended GA Chott to all my friends and family. This could have been a scary and horrifying experience with my first ever remodel project but it was so great I'm looking forward to doing it again soon!

We interviewed two different contractors and went with Chott because they were able to start sooner. Our project did end up getting delayed a couple weeks but we weren't under any time crunch really so this was not a problem. When they did start, they expressed their gratitude in our flexibility which was nice. Our project took a little over a month. The guys were very friendly and professional every day. I am home with a three year old all day, and they were able to tell us which days were going to be especially noisy so that we could plan to go somewhere. We had never worked with a contractor before, so this was a great first experience, and we would definitely work with them again.

From the start of the project to the end, this went extremely well. Our inital contact was with Darryll, President of GA Chott. He came to our home for the estimate, offered some suggestions and ideas, and overall, was very professional in his proposal. Once the project started, Ryan, the lead installer stepped in and ran the project flawlessly through completion. His quality of work, as well as that from others from GA Chott, was that of perfection and detail. The sub-contractors they did use were excellent and did an outstanding job as well in their respective areas of expertise (counter tops, plumbing, electrical). Angie, the Office Manager, would call several times a week to check on our satisfaction with the work being done, and keep us informed on what to expect next. One very nice thing that they did was a very thorough clean up at the end of each work day. The kitchen area was sealed off as they did their work and thus dust and other debris did not track into other ares of our home. As is normal in just about any project, there were some changes as we went along. Darryll explained to us the cost and schedule impact these changes would entail. We thought he was very fair in the add ons and changes we wanted. In summary, I would highly recommend GA Chott for your next project. We were extremely satisfied and in fact, hope to have them do a bathroom remodel in 2014.
Description of Work: This was a kitchen remodel project. Scope of work included removal of some cabinets, soffit above cabinets and island, demolition of some walls. It also included installation of new cabinetry, sink, fixtures, counter tops, back splash, new lighting and new appliances.

I found them through Angie's List. I designed the kitchen and they did the work. What stood out to me about them was their flexibility. I know that a lot of general contractors have their own designers and things like that so I thought that it was great that they allowed me to do my design. I already knew what I wanted and how I wanted everything to look and feel so I think that they worked really well with me to make sure that that happened. I think that they did an awesome job on the floors, the walls, the cabinets and everything. It was a completely amazing looking kitchen for what we were trying to accomplish; from old to new. I think that it looks fabulous. I can definitely see why they had the A rating. They won several awards on Angie's List for different things and I can definitely see why. It was a really good experience. I needed a few minor things to get done but overall, I am definitely more than pleased with the outcome. I would definitely use them again.

Everything was perfect. We were having some issues with water leaking from our master shower area and other miscellaneous issues in the bathrooms. We had Darryll come out and bid the job. We showed him all three bathrooms and the hallway we wanted remodeled. He was very friendly and walked us through what we would need and asked us what we liked. He took measurements, made notes from room to room, and then sat down with us. He explained the whole process and said he would have a bid for us. We had called out a couple different contractors to bid the job. After receiving all the bids we chose Darryll and his team because #1 their excellent reviews on Angies List, #2 Darryll's thoroughness of explaining what we were getting into, and #3 the other bids were all very close. Our main worker at the house was James. James was very friendly and a hard worker. He is a master craftsman when it comes to construction. He would walk us through what he had done and the plan on what was going to be next. We had added some things and changed a few other things and James always said no problem. He would even find things as he went along that weren't done correctly (when the house was built or by previous contractors) and he made sure everything was perfect. James is the MAN. Darryll and James turned something my wife and I were dreading, dealing with random construction crews, and turned it into a pleasent experience. I loved the way they interacted with us and worked to make sure everything was perfect. I also appreciated how it was usually just James working at the house except when something "big" was being done. (A shout out to Todd. He would help James with the big stuff/clean up and was friendly) At first I was a little freaked out by leaving a total "stranger" at the house while we were working, but through the weeks James became like one of the family. I can't say enough about the GA Chott team. They were EXCELLENT. We will be hiring them back when we decide to do our kitchen.

We worked with Darryll for the initial bid. He was punctual, courteous, and did a good job working through the estimate with us. They did not nickle and dime us but rather believe in customer service. Once they ordered all the materials and they came in, Angie contacted me to schedule the work. She was very professional in setting up the appointments and always kept me up to date with what was happening. John was our day-to-day contractor. He was punctual everyday - waited until 7am before he rang our doorbell. He cleaned up after himself each afternoon. The work was great. I was once told that I couldn't find quality, good pricing, and on time delivery all in one contracting company, and that was true until I found GA Chott. I would highly recommend them to everyone - and have. I LOVE our bathroom. The shower is just what I had hoped and it all came in just under what I originally budgeted. Awesome job!

We were very pleased with the work, dedication, and professionalism of the G. A. Chott staff. We were working under a deadline, which they did everything possible to achieve. We were only without the actual use of our kitchen for 1-1/2 days. The employees always arrived on time, went right to work, and cleaned up the area before leaving for the day. Whenever we had a question or issue, it was promptly handled. Special thanks to Ryan, James, Angie, and Darryll for all their great work in making our kitchen look beautiful.

I did my homework. I received 8 estimates after contacting approximately 15 different companies. Darryll Hileman's (GA Chott's President) approach to the bidding was a major selling point. He was thorough, patient and respectful. He answered all my questions (and there were many) in a timely manner and was thoughtful in his responses. I was given options on how the job was bid, which enabled me to make a nearly "apples-to-apples" comparison. Also, the company allows you to supply your own hardware and fixtures, choose from the showroom or to work from an allowance. The GA Chott bid fell in the lower part of the middle range of bids I received. (This range was WIDELY varied.) When it came to the project itself, it was a pleasure working with John and Angie. Again, they were both respectful and very helpful throughout. John works very clean and it detailed; he's a great problem solver. The pinwheel pattern for the floor and trim work in particular weren't easy to pull off, and John's workmanship really shined. Angie was in regular contact and was a pleasure to talk to. The project came off almost without a hitch. But, importantly, when there was a small issue, it was addressed and resolved quickly, professionally and completely. The coordination of the inspections, all of the work from start to finish was handled, and there was no "nickel and diming." The project was delivered on time and slightly under budget. There was great communication every step of the way. With this much investment, you hope the end product meets expectation. GA Chott ? and specifically Darryl, John and Angie ? exceeded any expectation I had. And, as a result, I will hire them again. Without reservation, I give my highest recommendation.
Description of Work: GA Chott completed a three week, full bath remodel project in early June 2013, and I've never been happier with a contractor. This project required demolition down to the studs and the floor beams/slats, and it came with some difficult challenges. It's an old house (originally built in the 1880s), the bathroom is in a fairly small space. While I wanted to modernize the look and increase the functionality, I also wanted to keep a bit of vintage appeal with a clawfoot tub. In addition, as the house's only bathroom, time out of operation was a major concern. GA Chott delivered on time and under budget. And, the workmanship and attention to detail exceeded all expectations.

Darryll from G.A.Chott was very attentive to our questions. He listened to what we wanted and was able to give us ideas and to better hash out the details of what would work. Then his crew came in and made those ideas a reality. They were great. James is a real perfectionist. I would absolutely recommend G. A. Chott to anyone and everyone.
Description of Work: Replaced a shower enclosure, built a wall and replaced a window.

9/10/2012: We went to GA Chott's showroom to choose tiles for shower repair and to ProSource Floors to choose bathroom floor tile and grout. Paid $895 deposit to Chott to cover ordered materials. 10/29/2012: Work began with shower floor and drain tear-out. Licensed plumber replaced shower drain. Paid $1755. 11/12/2012: Work complete. Paid balance of $1675. After completion some old grout showed gaps. Chott returned and re-grouted those tile joints for $75. The used a Toto commode for the replacement. It works very well. Ceiling repair worked out well. Almost invisible. We were very pleased with their work and professional approach. They supplied their bid by email and answered all our questions. We liked working with Darryll Heilman, president of GA Chott, who did all the estimating.
