They also used quite a few a few different contractors so everything changed as we moved long. They installed things incorrectly the first time and had to go and purchase new material and do it all over again. It took about 4 months.
Description of Work: GA Chott for plumbing.GA Chott for plumbing. They added a steam shower unit and a whirlpool bath. They actually did all our plumbing. They also did general remodeling

Integrity. That's the word I think of when I think of G.A. Chott! From the owners, Darryll, who bid the job, and Angie, who managed the job, to James, the lead installer, Nick and Michael who were helpers, and all the subs, all were professional, had amazing attention to detail, and every single one of them had one goal in mind...to provide us with an over-the-top remodel. And they accomplished that above and beyond our expectations. We couldn't be happier. When a few challenges arose, as they always do, especially in a job this size, they were handled with ease and everything was done to our satisfaction. We can't say enough about how awesome their attention to every last detail was, and how organized they were, especially the lead installer, James. We highly recommend G.A. Chott to anyone planning on a home remodel, especially a big one. Their professionalism, attention to detail, knowledge of what they do...I could go on and on...not to mention genuinely nice people who were great to have in our home... is why we will continue to use them for all our remodeling plans going forward.
Description of Work: They performed a total kitchen and powder room gut and re-model, along with new flooring in those rooms, an entrance hall, and a room addition.

We had an amazing experience with GA Chott. From the initial bid to the completion of the project, each step was entirely seamless and smooth. The owners are professional and polite, and highly responsive. The construction team is personable and professional and prompt. Most impressively, they cleaned up before they left every day. I had heard horror stories of working with general contractors, but our experience was nearly perfect.
Description of Work: Kitchen remodel including: wall removed to open up floor plan; tile floor removed and subfloor repaired; hard wood floors laid; some new cabinets installed; new garbage disposal, sink, counters, back splash, and lighting installed; several rooms painted; support beams in basement adjusted; popcorn ceiling removed; and wall texture smoothed.

Everything went very well! From the beginning, Darryll seemed to understand what we were looking for. He was very good at helping us decide where we could save a little money, and what would be worth spending a little extra on. Angie was fantastic about keeping us up to date on everything! She coordinated dates and times with us, let us know about any delays, answered any of my texts or phone calls immediately, and was always very helpful and a pleasure to talk to! Ryan was the main guy doing the work on our bathroom. What a talented guy! I was unsure about how to design the exact tile pattern in our shower and around the tub, and he took the time to tell me what he thought would look nice, and it came out beautiful! I also have to thank him for helping us in a water leak situation. We had a plumber out and finally tracked down the location of a busted water pipe leaking under the slab portion of our home, but they gave us a bid but did not stop the leak at that time. Water had been leaking into our basement for several months because of it. When Ryan overheard me saying that I have to get my husband or a plumber back out the next day to cap that pipe , he offered to take care of it for me right then! He said no need to wait if we really needed the line capped, and he went out to his truck, and took care of it immediately! The next day my basement was dry. It was a really nice thing to do! We were pleased with everything from the beginning and their price was very reasonable! We will definately hire them again.
Description of Work: Bathroom remodel. We needed to tear out the shower, and replace the old insert with tile. We also had tile added around the tub area. We had a new vanity top, new toilet, new lighting added.

I know what you are going through...attempting to locate a responsive, trustworthy, economical, professional and knowledgeable contractor to perform your remodel job(s). No need to look any further than Darryl (owner) and Angie (Darryll's wife) Hilemann and their employees @ G.A. Chott. We embarked on our hall bath remodel early in 2016. Read review after review...Obtained the top three contractors on Angies List (AL), based on ratings/reviews, as well as a contractor referred by a trusted friend. Our hall bath would be our "first impression" so to speak for each contractor's bidding style, trend and industry knowledge and overall job satisfaction. Once completed with the hall bath we would have a better idea of what to expect for the master bath remodel process. Hall bath was completed in April 2016 and the process could not have gone any smoother. Darryll's bid process should be the industry standard. The bid was neither the highest nor the lowest but was very detailed and realistic with regard to the labor and material allowances. Some bid items we chose a lesser model and on some items we chose a more expensive version but in the end, the resulting quote was close to being spot on. Here was the only surprise --- if you live in St. Louis county, be prepared to have its inspector write your house up for a smoke detector code violation. I am not knocking the reason but be prepared for an additional $300 - $500 cost increase. Darryll mentioned this during the initial visit as well as within his written bid so we were not surprised during the inspection process. The crew: James was our lead "everything" with Nick on-site to assist occasionally. Two very trustworthy, knowledgeable and efficient workers. James will treat your house as if it were his. He has a great relationship with the plumbing and electrical subs and takes great pride in making sure their work is up to his impeccable standard. James will care for your house as if you were there and also clean-up after each work day. We had no issues but if you do, call Angie...she is extremely responsive and keeps the project resources on-time and on-schedule from materials to labor. We have been using the hall bath for nearly a year now with no complaints and still overwhelmingly pleased with the project results. Master bath in October 2016: Did what they say to do...obtain three quotes and brought back the top three AL for walk-thru and quote. Again, Chott was in the middle cost-wise but there was no doubt who we were going with. Again, from the beginning, you will notice the difference in bidding style and quote preparation. We specifically asked for James to be our lead on the master remodel. Same fluid process with Darryll, Angie, James, Nick and the subs. Total gut and replace project but our anxiety was lessened a great deal having had the history of our hall bath project success. Project was very similar...bid included realistic allowances whereby we chose some lower, some higher versions of flooring, fixtures, tub, etc...James, Nick and subs did a fantastic job in translating the design into our finished product. We have been using this bathroom for almost six months and again, no issues, no callbacks and are extremely satisfied with the project's entire process - from beginning to end. Oh yeah, no surprises this time on the St. Louis County inspection! No additional cost added to the project due to smoke detectors! Would I use Chott again? Without question. I told Darryll, after the master was completed, that we would be remodeling our kitchen along with a deck remodel and he would be the first person we contact.

We worked with Darryl and Angie on two different projects over the past two years, each costing approximately $5000. Obviously, we were happy enough with the first to bring them back a second time. The first project involved cutting out a portion of our kitchen wall to open it up with the living room and placing a counter top on this to create a bar. They did a fantastic job taking out the wall and integrating the new space. It opened up an entire section of the house and created a whole new feel to the space. On the second job, they hung drywall over a large portion of preexisting plaster walls in our living room area and installed new trim on all the windows and doors, as well as crown molding. Again, the quality of the work was excellent and completely changed the look of the rooms. The craftsmanship on both projects was great and all of the staff were excellent to work with. Darryl provided detailed estimates and explains the options and methods he suggests in a manner that's easy to understand. This was particularly helpful for my wife and I as neither of us are very "handy." We also never felt misled in any way. Both of our projects were on budget and on time, with no surprises or difficulties. The crews were also excellent to work with and we always felt comfortable having them in our home, much of the time when we were gone at work. We were even on vacation during one project and had no problem leaving a key with the crew to let themselves in and out. They also go to great lengths to make sure they limit the mess, as much as possible, and clean up at the end of each work day. Angie does the scheduling, and she is also easy to communicate with and stayed in touch with us throughout the projects completion. On our first project, we had several estimates and their prices were very close to other companies and we went with GA Chott based on their ratings and were glad we did so. On our second project, we felt no need to obtain other estimates. We have a few future projects we hope to complete in the coming years and when we decide to undertake them, GA Chott will be our first and only call.
Description of Work: Knocked out wall in kitchen. Installed counter top / bar. Replaced interior doors. Hung drywall over existing plaster walls and replaced trim.

My daughter is 7 mos pregnant with her first baby and lives in an older home that has never had a dishwasher. In order to make life a bit easier for her, I wanted to gift her a new dishwasher. I contacted G.A. Chott Associates by email on 4/20/16 and heard from owner, Darryll Hileman, just a few hours later. We exchanged a few more emails in which we determined the size of the cabinets (18 in) and therefore the size of the dishwasher (18 in). Darryll detailed the work they'd do, how long he thought the work would take (4 hours), how much it would cost, and assured me that when they finished, my daughter would have a working dishwasher. After I agreed, he drew up a contract and sent it to me by email on 4/27/16. In the meantime, I purchased a new dishwasher and had it delivered so it'd be ready for the install. Angie from G.A. Chott called a few days later to schedule the install on 5/11/16. The installer, Ryan, showed up on time and went right to work. He had to remove the existing cabinet and then install the plumbing and do electrical work before the dishwasher could be set in place. Ryan constantly removed the old cabinet and other trash throughout the installation. He was professional, polite, and pleasant when communication was necessary. When Ryan finished, he ran the dishwasher through a test cycle to ensure it was operational and that there were no leaks. He didn't leave a scrap of debris behind. My daughter and son-in-law are absolutely thrilled with their new dishwasher. Compared to most G.A. Chott customers who have left reviews, this was a very small project, but it was a big deal to us. Mr. Hileman didn't treat the work we needed done as if it was any less important than the huge remodeling projects they deal with every day. I really, really, appreciated that. I would absolutely use G.A. Chott for remodeling projects in the future.

This was the only major renovation we have experienced in the 32 years we have lived in our home. We interviewed four contractors for our project, three of which were highly rated by Angie’s List and one that was recommended by a trusted friend. We selected G. A. Chott because Darryll seemed to understand in one relatively brief meeting what we wanted better than any of the other three with whom we spent much more time. He listened; the others talked. Chott’s proposal was clear and detailed. The “allowances” for countertops and other things that might vary widely in price turned out to be more than adequate in most cases (we chose high-end quartz countertops that exceed the allowance, but we expected that). When our selections cost less than the allowance, we received a credit against our bill for the difference. With some trepidation, we decided to have our complete kitchen and master bath renovations done concurrently. Darryll said that would cut the total time of the project roughly in half, because they would assign a crew to each job. That turned out to be a great decision. The entire project took about five weeks and the disruption was far less than we feared. We encountered some surprises when the walls and ceilings were opened up. Chott solved every problem to our complete satisfaction. In some cases, the solution was an improvement to the original plan. Chott’s crews arrived promptly at the scheduled time and cleaned up each day before leaving. Angie kept us informed or what to expect each day and week. James and Ryan who managed the two jobs and all the helpers and subcontractors were competent and friendly. We will definitely consider Chott for our next project.

I found this service provider on Angie's list and have since referred them to all my neighbors and friends. My project was just basic bathroom remodels and I'm 100% satisfied, but I'll tell you the best part of working with GA Chott folks: I didn't have to worry. Yes, even they admit they are not the cheapest out there, but it was more than worth it to have peace of mind. You can read from the other reviews, James, Nick, Darryll, and Angie are all consummate professionals and very friendly and the work is of high quality. I didn't have to worry about the people in my house while I was gone (with my animals), I didn't have to worry about the quality of work which was impeccable, I didn't have to worry about being taken advantage of, I didn't have to be a task master and make sure they were doing what I wanted. They just made everything easy and did so quietly and calmly with no drama. I've never had an experience like this with a contractor. Even now that everything has been done for a couple months, I still have complete peace about the project and love everything they did. It may not be for other people, but this was a massive amount of money for me to spend on my little house - having peace over spending the money and loving the work is priceless! It's a bonus also to work with such a lovely group of people. Anyone reading this and looking for a contractor, keep in the mind there may be a wait to get materials and actually start the work (could be a couple months or more), but to me it was well worth the wait to have it done right and not to have to worry. I will definitely use them again!!

Bidding: Darryll was professional from the start. Listened to what we wanted and took this information and presented a bid that matched our desires. Was very knowledgeable about building codes, restrictions, and regulations in our area. We shopped all over for the fixtures and materials we wanted, Darryll suggested a few vendors that were very courteous and professional. If you're not the shopping type he can provide you with all the choices from his shop. We presented him with the list and he was able to provide everything we wanted. Any gaps were filled from his own company show place. Darryll was great at offering suggestions and enhancements that made project successful, and he didn't sell us anything we didn't want. Thank You Darryll Onsite Team: James & Jim were Great! Stand back and let them do their thing and I think you'll be pleased. The team had the answer to every question I had. If there were snap decisions about preferences they were able to work around them until they got our decision. The quality of work was everything we expected. I know because I witnessed it first hand as I am able to work from home as needed. Of course they were very trustworthy and I didn't feel the need to. They were very prompt everyday and most of the time early. I would open the door and wave them in most days and they would discuss details of what they did and were going to do before I would leave for work. They didn't take any shortcuts and if it's not right they'll re-work it, that's the kind of guys they are. I think Darryll is comfortable with his name on the contract with these guys working for him. Got along these guy just fine and they were a pleasure to work with. Project was around the holidays and not one of my online shopping deliveries sat outside I appreciated that extra effort. They were especially attentive to the clean up after the days work dusting off areas affected by their work, Excellent! Thanks guys Contract Management & Scheduling: Darryll's wife Angie was our contact or maybe I should say we were hers as she contacted on a regular basis to keep us up on the project timeline and issues. What a pleasant person to work with throughout the project. You'll get to know her well as she is very involved in every aspect of the project. Every contact from her was to update us as to the expected progress of the project, alert us of any pricing issues or concerns and to add her opinion and advice when she thought we were being taken advantage of by a vendor of our choice, not hers. Her involvement is exemplary. We felt comfortable in all our dealings with Angie.

Chott's lead man, James, began work at the beginning of Jan 2016 and together with his crew (Rich, Ryan, ...) finished by mid Feb. Initial plumbing and electrical work was done with the wall studs showing. (Original kitchen was demolished by owner earlier.) The electricians (Born) and plumber were hired by Chott and we were well satisfied with their work. Original electric was aluminum and that was replaced with copper throughout these rooms by Born electric. The electric included under-cabinet lighting (18 ft), 4 pendants and 13 recessed canned lights. A new sub panel was added to handle the new copper circuits. The electrical work represented a significant amount in the total cost - about 35%. The plumbing work was minimal (4%) and included connecting sink, dishwasher and refrigerator. James and/ or Rich were present whenever the other contractors were here and provided general coordination and oversight of them. This initially took about two weeks. James and Rich drywalled the walls of these rooms and sanded them with minimal dust. Then they painted the ceilings and walls with Sherwin Williams paints after ensuring the walls and ceilings were smooth. They then begin installation of the cabinets and showed care in the handling of the cabinets (3/4 inch construction and heavy) and precision in the installation. A few shipping problems were resolved by James carpentry skills. Along with the cabinet installation, a number of appliances were installed including dishwasher, cooktop, double wall oven, refrigerator, freezer, drawer microwave and wine cooler. They also installed crown molding above cabinets throughout the kitchen and hall. When carpentry was needed to complete the furniture finish James was innovative and precise in his measurements and woodworking. They also installed a garage door (fire door) and two interior doors as well as painting them. James and Rich also installed 63 sq ft of marble backsplash above the granite countertops (installed by K & D countertops) in these rooms. As the kitchen progressed I realized that they should also do the family room. They smoothed out some drywall problems, painted the walls and ceilings. They installed baseboard throughout the room and installed a ceiling fan. I also asked them to mount the TV to the wall and put in outlets. They did a great job and transformed the family room, kitchen and hall into the laundry room. We are very pleased with James & Rich and are planning on having them do other remodeling in the near future. They were such a pleasure to have in our house that we thought of them as friends rather than contractors. Angie & Darryl (owners) do a great job of managing the resources and project planning. They are a high quality company that works at reasonable cost. Thank you very much for a job well done!!
Description of Work: G A Chott remodeled our kitchen, hall and family room. Initial contract was to install 56 ft of cabinets in our kitchen and hall. We added our family room when we saw the quality and excellence of their work. The job also included the electrical and plumbing in the contract, but not the flooring and countertops.

I selected this company based on their excellent rating on Angie' list and BBB rating. I had several bids some higher some lower but I liked the company's (Darryll) bid which was easy to understand, their design, and willingness to listen to what I wanted. I selected all of the fixtures and tile from their showroom and vendors. Darryll was very helpful in the selection process. Everything stated in the contract was completed on time and within budget in a quality manner. Once the company starts the project they are onsite everyday with the same folks until it is completed. All of the workers, James, Nick and Jim were professional, hard working, respectful, and extremely good at what they did. James the master craftsmen handled absolutely everything. Daily status was given as to the progress each day. My only involvement was to give input a few times to verify that my expectations were being met. James did beautiful work on everything but especially on the framing, shower and floor tile and reinstalling the wood paneling . The crew cleans up each day to minimize any impact to you. The plumbing and electrical contractors did a great job as well. Angie responded quickly to any questions and also kept me informed of the schedule. All of the fixtures were delivered on site as needed so there was never a delay in waiting for something to come in. Everyone worked so very well as a team. The end result for my very first, long over due remodel job, was a great experience with a great company and a bath that exceeded my expectations. Thank you so very much!
Description of Work: Take an existing basement bath down to the studs and expand by three feet New framing Retain the wood paneling on the outside walls of the bathroom to match the existing basement walls. Replace the plumbing stack Relocate shower drain piping to accommodate for the new shower Reposition the toilet for more ease of use Replace bath window Install framing to enclose plumbing pipes and ducts that were exposed prior to the remodel Drywall walls and ceiling Bring all electrical and plumbing up to code Replace all fixtures Install tile on the floor and shower walls Painting

We have recently completed our fourth project with G.A. Ghott. We have used them for a complete finished basement, a bathroom remodel, a few small projects, and our latest project: an under-deck ceiling to eliminate water from under our deck. We continue to use them as our "go-to-contractor". Over the years we have found that G.A. Chott continues to maintain high standards in every respect. The entire G. A. Chott team are professionals, starting with Darryll, the owner, his wife Angie, the project manager, and all the workers involved in completing our projects. We have recommended them highly to others. Friends and family have voiced their satisfaction over receiving a referral to a contractor with an outstanding reputation that is fair on pricing, pays attention to detail, and has an outstanding work ethic through the entire team. As with any exceptional provider, you may have to wait your turn and be put in line on the work schedule. You can be assured the wait is worth it for a completely satisfied job well done. There is a reason that G.A. Ghott continues to get an overall A rating in all Angie's list categories through the years. Darryll Hileman may be G.A. Chott's president, but his wife Angie is a valuable asset to the company and deserves the VP title. She keeps all aspects of a project running smoothly, and is a pleasure to work with. We can easily nominate G.A. Ghott for your Super Service Award, Honor Roll, or your POH for exceptional service.

On 2-20-15 I left a message for an appointment. We played phone tag until 2-24-15 when I made an appointment with Darryll Hileman for 3-4-15 to make a proposal. He arrived on time, was professional, friendly, knowledgeable. We received his very thorough and professional proposal in the mail 3-9-15. We delayed a long time considering two other proposals and didn't accept his proposal until June 23, 2015, which was the best and most professional proposal of the three. Darryll told us in advance that they couldn't start for several weeks but wouldn't stop once they started. On 8-6-15 they started, using our garage to store materials. Ken, Jim, and James were very pleasant men to have in the house, entirely professional, polite. Every day they cleaned and vacuumed the area. They arrived at 7:00 am and left at 3:30 pm every day causing little disruption. They used equipment that caused no dust in the rest of the house. We had forgotten to request them to paint the stairwell and to replace black electrical outlets with white. They cheerfully did the extra work and only charged us $375 extra. They predicted they would finish on 8-20-15, which is exactly what happened, and before their usual 3:30 pm quitting time. As is their custom, Angie Hileman called me several times during the work to ask if I was satisfied and had any questions, which I did sometimes. She was very accommodating. On 8-20-15, after Ken finished, cleaned up and left, Angie came by to inspect with me and to assure me that they would return to correct anything I needed. The bedroom and new closet are very handsome, exactly what we wanted, and finished perfectly. The new woodwork matched the old woodwork nicely, thanks to their team. I have nothing but praise for this contractor. From my point of view, nothing went wrong. Ken expressed to me some challenges about the electrical but worked it out himself without any extra expense and without violating any codes. It was clear that he was very conscientious about following codes and keeping the construction safe.
Description of Work: Ken. Jim, and James did the work. They added a walk in closet in the unfinished space above our garage. The new closet is attached to an existing bedroom. They replaced an old rickety wooden railing around the stairwell in the bedroom with a new strong rail and added a wooden bannister to the stairway where there had been no bannister. They replaced a beam in the ceiling with drywall, removed one ceiling light and added two new ceiling lights, replaced black electrical outlets with white, stained and finished the new woodwork, added clothes racks to the closet, a new light in the closet, and painted the walls.

They get a lot of work so you may have to wait a few weeks, but it's worth it. Darryll is a very straight shooter and will do whatever it takes to ensure that your job gets done right. The pricing is very competitive and the specialists that they send to your home are very skilled. There are always little unexpected things in home renovation and these guys deal with it well. The owner came over himself at 7:00pm on a Friday to check on a pipe that wasn't fully secured. If this were another era, these are the kind of folks that you would hire with a simple handshake and know that they would get the job done. Our first child was born only a few days after the renovations were completed and having the new shower and tub surround has been a godsend. Highly, highly recommend this contractor. *Side note: Home Depot sent us a contractor that spent four hours with us and wanted $11,000 for this same project. Darryl was there 20 minutes and quoted us half that.
Description of Work: We had one of the old 1940s South City bathrooms with dated peach tile, a pink tub, stained floor tile, etc. These guys came in and did all the demo, tile work, fixtures installation, trim, and paint to create a whole new space. We paid for the tub, vanity, and fixtures ourselves. They did all the rest.

Everything in my master bathroom was replaced except for the flooring and the jet tub. I was able to make almost all my selections (cabinetry, countertop, vent fan, toilet, etc.) by visiting their show room and browsing catalogs they sent home with me (or online). One stop shopping. When unsure about a choice they always offered good suggestions and guidance, but never pushed anything. How it works: Darryll comes out to look at the job and ask about your ideas and what you want done. Within a couple of days you receive a detailed written bid, with optional choices if needed. It can be fine tuned until you are happy with it. Once you sign the contract you put about a third down, and Angie puts you on her list for scheduling. About another third down when the work starts, and final payment after everything is finished and they are sure you are completely satisfied. What I got: A cabinet with three drawers and a door (storage!) replaced a pedestal sink. Beautiful onyx countertop was installed. New toilet. New mirrored medicine cabinet. New faucets, shower head. New light fixture. Grab bars, wall mounted mirror on hinged arm, and glass shelf over toilet were added. (Also, the old pedestal sink and toilet were reinstalled in my aging basement bath. ) The window was removed and replaced with glass block window, and a beautiful window sill was fabricated. Ceilings and walls were painted. A ceiling ventilation fan (with light & night light) was installed. For this they had work in the attic and go out through the roof, as there had been no vent fan previously. While one was in the attic, another manned the shop vac to scoop up fluffs of insulation. Minimum mess. All in all this was a fabulous transformation of my master bathroom. Once started, it took less than a week. The workers were prompt and courteous and did a great job of preparing the space and cleaning up after. All flooring was protected - from the garage where they entered the house - all the way back to the master bath. They are mindful of pets: I have two cats that don't go outside and everyone was conscientious about keeping doors closed etc. Darryll and Angie are wonderful. They keep you informed and work closely with homeowner and work team. They schedule jobs in a way to make sure that everything is ready to go before starting, so once they start it runs smoothly. There is a lead man on the job with helpers added as needed. Any changes that come up are dealt with fairly and efficiently. They make sure everything is completed to your satisfaction. This is an excellent company. Very detail oriented, careful, conscientious. Expert craftsmanship. And just nice, honest, personable people. They did my kitchen in 2012 and it is beautiful. Prior to that project I interviewed three or four contractors, and GA Chott was the obvious best choice. Now I will never use another company for my projects. Oh and I got $200 off through Angie's List.

We started our master bathroom remodeling project by visiting several local kitchen and bath remodeling stores. After narrowing down our choices, we decided to join Angie?s List before making such a big financial commitment. The first company we considered had an overall ?B? rating. They had a higher bid and would not write a contract without a down payment, so we ruled them out. The second company had an ?A? rating and a lower bid, but their contract was so confusing and poorly written that we eliminated them, too. We found the company we eventually picked, G. A. Chott & Associates, Inc. through Angie?s List. So, why did we choose G. A. Chott? There were several reasons: they have an overall ?A? rating; they have by far the most positive reviews in their category; their bid was competitive; and their contract was detailed yet easy to understand. From the first phone call to the final day of work, we were impressed by the level of professionalism by everyone involved. The process started with several meetings with Darryll Hileman, President/Owner of G. A. Chott. Darryll listened to what we wanted, made suggestions, explained how the project would proceed, and sent us a free, detailed contract. There was no pressure involved, and he told us the contract would be good for 30 days. We did ask Darryll to revise the contract a couple of times based on our questions and his suggestions. We did not visit his showroom because it was getting moved, but Darryll brought samples for us to see. On the day the work started, Darryll introduced us to James, who would lead the project, and Jason, his helper. Darryll made sure they understood what was to be done and assured us they would be doing quality work. Before they started the work, James and Jason put down cardboard and plastic to protect our floors, and they explained what would be happening that day. One of the items we were going to replace was the toilet in our upstairs hall bathroom. This toilet was not functioning properly and was seldom used. Unfortunately, the back tank of the toilet started leaking during that night and flooded the bathroom. The water leaked down to the first floor kitchen and into the basement. Of course, this was unexpected, but James and Jason helped us stay calm and deal with the mess. Our second review is about the flood repairs. Work on the master bathroom continued as planned. James, and on most days Jason, too, arrived promptly at 7:00 each morning and worked until 3:30 in the afternoon. They always explained what would happen that day and cleaned up before leaving. Any questions or concerns we had were always answered calmly and quickly. James and Jason were conscientious, dependable, polite, respectful, and took pride in their work. When the tub and shower were removed, the pipes needed to be changed. Pat, the plumber, did this work and the new toilets, and he also fixed a problem we were having with our water pressure. He was there several times and was very helpful. The original temperature regulator for the new shower wasn?t working properly, and Pat came back in the late afternoon to replace it, so we would be able to use the shower that evening. Darryll estimated our job would take 3 to 4 weeks. It did take 4 weeks, but considering the scope of the project, we thought the time was reasonable and well spent. Angie, Darryll?s wife, arranged the schedule and materials. She was extremely helpful and patient when we second-guessed some of our decisions. They both made sure we were happy with the remodel and made us feel confident in choosing their company. To sum up ? the entire G. A. Chott & Associates, Inc. team are professionals. There is great attention to detail from the contract to the actual work to the thank you cards we received when signing the contract and upon completion of the work. We are extremely happy with our new master bathroom!

You?ll see from our previous review that the old toilet in our upstairs hall bathroom developed a leak during the night. This flooded the bathroom, and the water leaked through the first floor kitchen ceiling fan, went through the laminate floor of the kitchen and into the basement. Our insurance agent told us that we could pick the company to do the repair work. We already had G. A. Chott & Associates, Inc. working on our master bathroom remodeling project, and we were impressed by their work, so we asked Darryll to give us a quote for the repairs. Darryll inspected the damage and sent us a detailed contract. He said that James and Jason would be able to start the work immediately after finishing the master bathroom remodel. We appreciated not having to wait, since the company the insurance agent sent tore out the damaged kitchen floor, part of the living room floor, and cut a hole in the kitchen ceiling about 2 feet by 5 feet to dry out the area. We also had no floor in the hall bathroom. James led the team that worked on the repairs, and Jason was the primary helper and painter as before. We were already impressed by the quality of their work and their work ethic. Angie also sent out Ryan and Nick to assist them. Ryan mainly worked on installing the new tile floor in the hall bathroom, and Nick repaired the laminate floor in the living room and fixed the gaping hole in the kitchen ceiling. They were just as polite and professional as James and Jason. The repair to the laminate flooring in the living room and the installation of the new partial ceiling in the kitchen were so good that you would never know there had been any damage. One of the concerns we had was how to fix the transition between the tile and laminate floors, since they were different heights, and my husband uses a wheelchair. James devised a slanted wooden threshold that took care of this problem. As before, James let us know each morning what would be happening, and he consulted us before tweaking any part of the plan. For instance, the cabinet above the refrigerator had to be raised because the tile made the fridge higher. He also asked our preference for the transition and quarter round materials, and spent extra time finding things that matched the surrounding area. Jason did an excellent painting job, and he was very thoughtful in touching up nearby areas, since he had the paint out. As usual, they cleaned up at the end of each work day. They also made sure we had a pathway to get to the bathroom, to the fridge (they kept this plugged in throughout the job), and a way to get outside. No one expects a toilet tank to crack during the night and send a flood of water from the second floor to the basement. As upsetting as that was, the knowledge that we had competent and caring people fixing the damage helped relieve our anguish and anxiety. Everyone that we encountered from the G. A. Chott company ? Darryll, Angie, James, Jason, Nick, and Ryan were wonderful, and we would definitely use this company again. In fact, we are already making a list of future jobs! A final note to James ? we miss you bringing in our newspaper each morning!

After wasting 2 months with a local kitchen and bath store that came back with a HUGH estimate I thought about checking out a general contractor. I got on Angies list and under contractors, looked for who had a lot of reviews and reviews that were good! G.A. Chott was the one that caught my eye. They had a great amount of wonderful reviews and knew it was worth looking into. I e-mailed Darryl, the owner of the company. He came out and gave us a quote within 2 weeks. It was a little more than we wanted to spend so with his helped we cut out a few non essentials and got to our budget. Cabinets were ordered and 6 weeks later, the job was started. James and Nick were two of the most professional workers, always on time and very polite. We ran into a few problems but were rectified in record time with the help of Angie who is Darry's wife. She is amazing and a huge asset to Darry's company. This is the first big renovation we have done and with the help of G.A. Chott, it was a very exciting, pleasent experience. Thank you Darryl, Angie, James and Nick. We are glad we found you with the help of Angies List. WE LOVE OUR KITCHEN

Darryll arrived promptly for the first meeting to review the work requested and gather information to prepare the bid. He provided the bid quickly and was more reasonable than the other bid we had received for the work. He was very easy to work with and was helpful in making suggestions for our selection of materials. His allowances for the tub, toilet and flooring were generous, allowing us to make our selections and overall come in under the allowance for which credit was given. On the day the work commenced, Darryll arrived right on time at 7:00 AM with the two workers to review the job to be done and go over the process. The first thing they did was put down cardboard and hardboard on to protect the hard floors from the doors to the bathroom and plastic to cover the carpeted pathways. Each day, James, the lead craftsman, arrived precisely at 7:00 AM and discussed any issues or questions that he had. He kept us informed all along the way of the progress and made sure we had time to think about placement of things like the height of the shower head and the corner caddies above the bathtub. He cleaned up everything each evening. We were told the job would take two to three weeks and it was complete in two weeks. We are very pleased with the way the bathroom turned out and the quality of the work. It was a real pleasure to work with Darryll and his crew and we will definitely use them again for the next improvement project.
Description of Work: Removed tub, tub surround and underlying ceramic tile, toilet, medicine chest and all drywall. I had already removed vanity top & base and laminate floor over subfloor. Installed new drywall, tub & drain, Onyx tub surround, cement board and ceramic tile on floor, toilet, and new vanity top over existing vanity base. Recessed medicine chest which had been surface mounted. Reinstalled previous tub and vanity faucets (had been upgraded a few years previously, as had the vanity base), reinstalled towel rods and reinforced walls behind tub surround to later accommodate grab bars. Updated electrical, installed new 20 amp circuit and two ground fault protected receptacles, replaced sink drain pipe back to stack and installed new quarter turn shutoffs valves for sink and toilet.

We met with Darryll Hileman in Dec. 2013 to review his proposal. We had another bid from a very reputable firm and both were very close. It just came down to who we were more comfortable with from a working relationship and that was GA Chott. We signed a contract late January 2014 and due to their backlog of jobs, our's didn't start until April. The job was completed in July. James was the lead man on our job and we can't say enought about him. Every morning like clockwork, he would ring our doorbell at 7am, the agreed upon start time. Only once during the enitre period he missed one day due to an illness. Very puctual. Other workers provided periodic help but James was the constant, always attached to our job from beginning to end. Sometimes on site workers have a "know-it-all, don't bother me" attitude. Not with James. We could always talk through any changes we would want, get his input and achieve the desired outcome. His demeanor and accomodating personality made the job go very smoothly. Likewise with Darryll and Angie-office manager, scheduler and wearer of many hats including wife of Darryll. Angie would always keep us abreast of timelines, materials, field our calls and just check-in to make sure we were happy with everything. One reason we went with Chott is they provided us a lot of flexibility in allowing us to purchase some of our fixtures and materials from our own sources and then backing those costs out of their proposal. My wife and I are very particular about quality, style and color preferences, overall design. So we wanted control of those aspects of the job. Chott allowed us this capability. The only glitch we experienced was with some of the tile work, which was subbed out (James had his hands full, otherwise he would have done it and he is a perfectionist). Darryll secured a full refund from that vendor, allowed us to obtain a different installer who then corrected the problem. Darryll handled this is a very professional and timely manner. No hassle, he just wanted us to be completly happy with our new space. We would use GA Chott again on any future projects, big or small. Glad we chose GA Chott.
Description of Work: Major interior remodel to our 50 year old home. We worked with an architect prior to hiring GA Chott to re-configure our existing floor space to design a new master bath with first floor laundry while relocating an adjoining master bedroom. In addition, we remodeled a guest bath. All this area was entirely gutted, a wall had to be moved, new plumbing installed, new electrical including a new 200 amp panel, new HVAC supply, all new cabinets, countertops, new sinks, bath tub, shower, tile, carpet and a whole lot of other stuff.
