Very pleased with the process and and completed work. Gary is very detail oriented. We knew exactly what was going to be done. He worked with us to get everything just the way we wanted. Matt did the work and is a perfectionist. He was on time every day and worked diligently to keep the project moving. He was extra careful to keep the dust down and not track throughout the house. The finished project is exceptional.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of master bathroom. Down to studs, new shower stall with seat, new vanity, floor tile, glass tile wall.

Selected GA Chott from four contractors reviewed on Angie's List. GA Chott provided a very professional proposal and discussed various options we had to reconfigure the kitchen cabinets in order to relocate the sink away from a corner. Contract was awarded before Christmas. Granite was selected from Hallmark Stone. Delay in starting project was due to ordering replacement cabinets from the manufacturer and waiting for the order to be filled. Once cabinets were received, GA Chott spent approximately two days to remove two old cabinets, and adjust the size of a corner cabinet, extend a gas line, and prepare plumbing connections. Granite installed within a week, although additional leveling of cabinets was required to complete the installation. During the process of finishing the project after granite installation, GA Chott noticed that the hot water pressure was low. They suggested replacing two older shut off valves, and in that process discovered some dislodged solder clogging. The pressure was returned to normal. Throughout the process we were able to communicate via email with Darryl, who managed the project. The project was completed beautifully, the workmanship was outstanding, and everything was handled professionally and courteously. We would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced formica counter top with granite. Relocated kitchen sink. Replaced and reconfigured three cabinets. Replaced electric cooktop with gas.

From start to finish I felt that Darryll of GA Chott had my best interest at heart. He was within one minute of every appointment scheduled and offered assistance in making my choices especially since I knew little about constructing a portico. What I appreciated is that he did not try to "sell" me on any product. He did make suggestions based on his experience. At our first meeting, he came prepared based on pre-meeting questions. He was able to suggest a super wallpaper remover and a suggestion for a painter. Only one man, John, was in charge of my projects so I had only him working on my projects. Since I work, often our correspondence was by notes left on the kitchen table. John must have a sixth sense because he able to (1) understand my notes and (2) perform my requests without a problem. He went beyond my expectations...and I always felt confident when he was in my home. Since most of John's work was done outdoors (sometimes in inclement weather), my neighbors commented often on his work ethic. And that work ethic shows in the finished product! My contact often was Angie at GA Chott. What a great, thorough, understanding lady. Obviously, I highly recommend this company and feel fortunate to have been directed to it by Angie's List. Thanks!!
Description of Work: bath 1 - soffit removed and ceiling/walls replaced, recessed light installed, vanity light moved, vanity top, all faucets and toilet installed, tile floor installed, replacement tub/shower doors bath 2 - toilet, vanity top, faucet and mirror installed, provided for wall insulation portico - wood facade removed, old door removed, concrete piers installed, new entry door and sidelights installed with all trim and hardware installed, portico built with barrel underside and columns placed, everything painted to client's choices

Let us begin by thanking you for our beautiful new kitchen and tile floors throughout our home. Looking back at the project, we have come to the realization that you and your co-workers describe everything one looks for in a contractor. Your experience, talent, and willingness to go above and beyond expectations made our project run smoothly and effortlessly. To say that you are thorough is a gross understatement! Darryl, you had the ability to know what we wanted before we did. For instance, when we were choosing our countertops, you brought over huge slabs of granite, Corian, and quartz so we could get a better understanding of the patterns and their effect on our kitchen. Later, when were choosing the width of our soon-to-be installed tile floors you had the insight to tell us to chose a smaller grout width. Moreover, when we were installing our new tile floors, you ensured that we were able to replace any/all of our appliances should they malfunction in the future. This attention to detail did not go unnoticed and it was truly appreciated. More than anything, we were most impressed with your level of communication. When something did not go according to plan you were always quick to pick up the phone, contact us, and find a solution. I know that our project threw some atypical scenarios but I can boldly say that the employees of G.A. Chott were able to overcome the obstacles with grace. One often hears horror stories when the title ?contactor? is mentioned. But, thanks to you and your team, we are now able to confidently tell our friends, family, neighbors (and anyone else who will listen) that there is no need to fear the term ?contractor? as long as the contractor they choose is G.A. Chott.
Description of Work: Darryl and his team replaced the tile floors throughout our kitchen, laundry room, bathroom and entryway. They also managed the installation of a kitchen island, installed new counter tops and ceramic back splash, and installed wainscoting in our laundry room. Each and every service or change order was discussed in detail and then confirmed by a written contract or change order. Our entire project actually came in BELOW budget and exceeded all of our expectations!

BID: G. A. Chott was the contractor selected from a list of contractors on Angie?s List. Daryll arrived to look at my kitchen space and listened to what I needed and wanted. He took measurements and pictures and told me he would get back to me with a proposal and estimate. In less than a week, I heard back from him and made an appointment to view the layout from the computer software he used. He actually had two potential layouts for me to look at. I made some suggestions to one of them and he re-did the drawings. This time I went to his office to view the layout on a bigger screen and had the opportunity to see cabinet, countertop and flooring samples.. While there I made a few more adjustments. After receiving all the estimates, I picked G. A Chott?s. The price was actually the most expensive, but the quality of the work was much better than the other two. If they had designed the same layout and cabinet quality, the price would have been similar. In addition, Daryll was patient and very helpful during the entire process, which took about 4-5 weeks. In part due to my work schedule and holidays. WORK: The pricing was fully listed on the contract agreement by the type of work to perform . The work began in the latter part of October, which was later than I had originally hoped by a few weeks. One man was assigned to the project and worked on the site during the day, while I was at work. I would let him in each morning prior to leaving for work and he would lock up upon leaving in the afternoon. The first thing done was to cover the flooring that led to the basement and on the stairs to protect the carpeting. The room was torn down to the walls in two days, including the flooring. Everything was hauled away by late afternoon. Once the work began, everything moved along quickly. The floor was dug up and luckily the leak was towards the beginning of the pipe, so not much had to be done to fix it. The electrician and plumber came in and did most of their work the following week. Then the painting, flooring and cabinets were installed. There were a few problems with the cabinets due to the wrong ones being shipped by the vendor. But this was quickly fixed. The only hold-up was the ~ one week wait required to have the molding taken and the countertop made to fit the cabinets and space. During this time, it was found that the back splash tile selected would not fit in the space. This error was due to the vendor not calculating the space properly and suggesting the proper size tile and was outside of Chott?s control. New tile had to be selected and ordered. This delayed the completion by about a week, but any work that could be done was completed during this period, i.e., appliances installed. I had wanted everything done by Thanksgiving, but missed that deadline due to the back splash issues. The room was finished the week of December 5th, including the final inspections. Payment: Billing was paid in installments as outlined in the agreement. A final reconciliation was made when the job was done and I actually spent less than the original estimate, primarily due to the small amount of work required to fix the plumbing. I also made some upgrades during the project which were documented with work orders. Overall: When the kitchen was done, it was exactly as I had hoped. I would definitely recommend GA Chott to anyone wanting a kitchen remodeled. I will definitely get an estimate from them to remodel my bathrooms when the time comes. Always on time. Did exactly what was said would be done. Neat, clean, professional. Angie in the office always kept me informed with the scheduling of the work and Darryl was always available to quickly answer any of my questions. Top Notch Job.
Description of Work: I selected three contractors from Angie's List for bids on remodeling my kitchen, which is in a condo. The job included digging up the floor to repair a hot water leak in the piping that was under the slab floor. It was unknown at start where the problem would be and how much of the concrete slab floor would have to be removed to make the repair. Also, I was removing a peninsula between the kitchen area and a dining area to open up the space.

Darryl came out to give us an estimate in July of 2011. He was very professional and the estimate was so much more definitive than any others we had gotten. After deciding to go with GA Chott, we went to their showroom to pick out cabinets, countertops, tile, etc. They have a very nice setup and I was able to see a large piece of granite in the color I wanted rather than a tiny square. We scheduled the work to start in September. Angie had everything coordinated. They let me know exactly when the work would start and how it would proceed. John was the foreman on the job. He is a master kitchen remodeler. He began with the tear out and continued from there until the day it was done. John was always very prompt. I never had to wait for him to show up. He always had things cleaned up and locked before he left for the day. Darryl makes sure he has everything ready to go before he will start the job. That made it go very smoothly. The only glitch was the granite countertop. The company he used to measure and cut it made an error and the sink was off-center. Within minutes after we told him about it, Darryl was contacting the company and they replaced the entire countertop in less than a week. I would definitely recommend GA Chott, and especially Darryl, Angie and John. We will probably have other projects done by them in the future. Right now, I am enjoying my wonderful new kitchen!
Description of Work: We had our entire kitchen replaced. No walls were torn out, but we removed the soffit and replaced the floor, the cabinets, the appliances, the light fixtures, the sink and garbage disposal. We started off with a kitchen that was original from 1959 and ended up with a kitchen that was from 2011! It is wonderful!

Darryll Hileman came to the house shortly after I contacted him for an assessment. Some of the wood and windows on a front porch had rotted from moisture and weather. Another company had thought that the wood was rotted all the way through and it would be quite expensive to replace all the wood inside and out and all the windows. Darryll did not think the wood was rotted all the way through and gave an estimate of 3,457 to remove the rotted wood, replace all the windows and put on new siding. (It was apparent when they began removing rotted wood, that his assessment of the damage was correct.) Darryll thought that the work could be done quickly starting in January of this year, but the weather turned quite cold. They were able to start on January 10 and were able to replace the windows that day. A neighbor who worked in construction at one time said he was surprised they were able to do this on such a cold day. During the course of the work Darryll informed me that the interior trim that had been around the windows could not be used with the new windows. Also when the gutter was removed we found that the fascia board was rotted and needed to be replaced. This added $282 to the initial estimate. In early February, Darryll called to apologize for not being able to complete the work by then. With the bitter cold, snow and ice, I was surprised they were able to get as much done as they were. There were a couple minor things I noticed that needed to be be done when I examined the work from time to time, but Darryll was very responsive to my calls and all work was completed to my satisfaction and the satisfaction of my family members.
Description of Work: This company replaced windows, rotted wood and siding, deteriorated windows and fascia board and trim on a porch.

Gary was great to work with right from the start. He came to our house in the evening and listened carefully to what we wanted. He had some good ideas to improve on ours and was very respectful of our wishes to maintain the character of the bathroom - keeping the original wall tile and tub. We really appreciated that as we worked through all the details over the next two months or so, Gary was extremely detail-oriented and worked hard to make sure we got what we wanted. For example, we were given a designer's drawing of what the sink area would look like based on what we had said we wanted. As this image was very realistic, we were able to see that our original idea resulted in something we really didn't like. So, we came up with a different plan, sent it to Gary, and got back a new design that we absolutely loved. Once everything was worked out, every single little thing was in the contract, so we knew there would be no surprises. When we did make a couple of small changes after signing the contract, an amendment was sent to us to sign and return. Another example of Gary's commitment to making sure we got what we wanted: I found a picture of a medicine cabinet online that I liked. I wanted it to be made to match the cabinets under the counter. As the company from which we were buying our cabinets did not make such a cabinet, Gary purchased the parts and James (who did most of the actual work) was able to build exactly what we imagined. The plumbing, electrical, and tile work in the shower were subcontracted. We really liked that the plumber and electrician were very knowledgeable about the requirements for our city and had clearly worked with Gary a lot. We were less enthusiastic about the tile guys - they made one silly mistake, but fortunately were able to fix it once we pointed it out. They also had to come back to redo some of the grouting. In the end though, the shower came out beautifully. We wanted to keep the original wall tile but have it re-glazed. We hired the person to do this, but had him schedule the work with GA Chott so that it could be done before the cabinets and counter were installed. The scheduling worked out very well so no days were lost. James did the work and was great. Super polite and kept the area perfectly clean. During the few weeks of work, we were called at least twice a week to let us know exactly what was happening, when we needed to be home, etc. Any question we had was quickly answered. There is only one thing I wish had happened differently: we were never given a drawing of how the shower would look. It was described in the contract, but it was hard for us to picture. So when the tile guys came, we spent some time talking with them and realized that what was planned was not what we envisioned. However, we were able to discuss it with them and make sure it came out how we wanted. Overall, I think the motto of GA Chott and Associates must be something like, "We'll make it right." They have a great reputation and are working hard to keep it. We hope to remodel our kitchen in a year or so and will hire Gary's company to do the work.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of a bathroom. Existing shower, vanity, toilet, and closet were removed. Shower was enlarged, new heated floor, custom cabinets and medicine cabinet, and new toilet. Existing wall tile was preserved.

First and foremost, you actually deal with Gary to get your bid and quotes. He is a very nice man and is extremely knowledgeable. He came to bid our two bathrooms and also bid replacement of a large exterior door in our kitchen. We went with the door. He arranged a colleague of his from a door company to come out and they worked together to measure the area and decide how to order what we wanted. Being that our house is so old the door was 8 X 3 approx plus it had a transome above it. They decided to order the door (which suprisingly is a standard size) but then build a customer frame and transome around it and have it delivered in one piece. It arrived and was beautiful. Gary's guy came promptly in the next week, installed it and it is BEAUTIFUL.
Description of Work: GA CHOTT & ASSOCIATES INC assisted in ordering and installed a large exterior door and transome in our 1885 home.

Fantastic experience. Gary made several visits for estimate/planning and provided detailed information and drawings. A visit to their showroom allowed selection of products to be installed. Work began as promised and continued daily uninterrupted until completed. Darryl does excellent work and is very detail oriented. City inspections were scheduled by their office and occurred in a timely way. The work was completed quickly but meticulously, and was everything that we expected and more. The work area was cleaned at the end of each day, and when the job was completed the new bathroom and surrounding living space was spotless. Their services may be slightly more expensive than others, but their professionalism, quality, and warranty policy is well worth it.

They were very clear about what the work would entail, the estimate was exactly what the job cost. We made several changes and were quoted exact pricing for each change. They covered our floors completely before starting to make sure our floors would not be damaged and cleaned up after they were done for the day. They stand for quality, punctuality and excellence which is quite obvious. Any problems that came up they jumped on it and fixed ASAP. We love our new kitchen and had a great experience because everything was spelled out completely and they took time to do the job right. We would use G.A. Chott & Associates for an remodeling job again!

We have a beautiful new kitchen thanks to G.A. Chott and Associates. Gary worked with us hard and long to make all the necessary decisions up front. James did the installation itself, expertly and professionally. We really appreciated the excellent quality of the work from start to finish. Original contract amount was $137,937.00 for drawings, permits, interior hallway bathroom remodel, interior kitchen remodel, exterior remodel including roof/ gutters/downspouts/fasica/soffiting/siding, garage addition and conversion of garage to family room. Additional contract for $7,177.00 was signed on 9-2-97 for rear hallway bathroom remodel including drawings and permits. Owner requested Change Orders amounted to an additional $20,677.00. As per invoice dated 12-5-97 the contract total amount was $165,791.00. The Project Manager (many years of experience) on this job was an excellent remodeling master remodeling carpenter, his partner had been working wigh him for several years and came to us with experience, the apprentice the ownner refers to was a recent graduate of carpentry trade school here in St. Louis. The Master Electrician and Master Plumber both had many years of experience. If the ceiling cracks the owner is referring to were at the top of the gable of the vaulted ceiling in the converted family room; the new ceiling rafters were 2 x 12's as specified by the structural engineer and may have slightly settled as dry-out occurred, this is not uncommom. We were not given the opportunity to address or repair this problem. The original contract included four 30 cubic yard dumpsters. My apology for not picking up/cleaning up to meet the owners satisfaction. Clean up is a vital part of my Company's job. Thanks to Angies List for allowing me to respond. Gary Chott

It took a couple of months to get on their build schedule, but everyone was great to work with and were very flexible to add things to the contract. We bought our Onyx shower and Moen fixtures through them at a much better price point than anyone else was offering. They are a very professional operation and details are looked after in both their paperwork and quality of work. We are very pleased with the results. Approx. cost is for our total remodel, including what we spent at other sources for cabinents, counters, and fixtures. A year after the remodel we had an issue with the shower fixture and gave them a call. They were very prompt to come out and diagnose/fix problem as soon as part came in from manufacturer.

Our house was built in 1964. We I had no idea about the dangerous condition of the electric and plumbing behind the cabinets. Everything had to be replaced, including the drywall. (For instance, a gas stove top was connected to an outlet by an extension cord covered by drywall). Gary Chott, and particularly James, did an excellent job. I am honestly grateful to the city of Creve Coeur for demanding the highest grade of performance through constant inspection. Although the project did cost about 26% more than the original estimate, we felt that this was mostly because of the strange configurations that were found behind the walls.

Excellent experience. My only regret is that it took me so long to submit this report to Angie's List. I highly recommend Gary's services.
Description of Work: Gary (the company owner) had his team install a subfloor in an exterior closet that houses our HVAC equipment. The original subfloor was rotting. This was not an easy job as it had to be done in bad weather, and with a great deal of coordination between Gary and the HVAC equpment provider, because were also installing all new equipment at the same time. Daryl, who actually performed the work, was extremely professional, very flexible in scheduling and did excellent work. Let's put it this way - if the guy who built the original subfloor had done the kind of work that Daryl did, we would never have had a problem in the first place.

Gary wrote a very detailed contract; he has a showroom with bath fixtures to view, uses a supplier for floor materials who was easy to work with. I met Joe who would do the work on the first day. Joe did excellent work, installed the cardboard and plastic floor protection, arrived on time every morning, cleaned up very well every day, at end of job my house looked like no one had been there, except I had a nice, new bathroom. Job took approximately 7 days, Darryl called every other day with status and to ask if questions.I thought the cost was reasonable for the work and products provided. Gary won't start work till he's received all the products for the job, so the start of work was 2 months after I signed the contract. I was very pleased with the outcome of the job, would recommend this company for bathroom remodeling
Description of Work: Complete bathroom remodel, approximate room size 8' x 5'. Included tear out and removal of drywall, shower stall and pan, existing fixtures-toilet, medicine cabinet, mirror, light and fan fixtures, sink, faucet and cabinet, existing vinyl floor and underlayment, scraped acoustic texture off ceiling, existing door. Installed new drywall in bathroom and on bedroom wall where old drywall torn out for pocket door install, new pocket entry door, Onyx shower base and wall panels to ceiling, new Moen shower and Kohler sink faucets, new Kohler medicine cabinet, new Basco shower doors, Toto toilet, Onyx vanity top, new vanity cabinet, new Pansonic fan w/new wiring for fan light, used existing wiring for fan, new GFI outlet, used existing wiring, new cover plates for wall outlets, owner provided light fixture, ceramic tile on one wall to just above sink height, ceramic tile on floor.

The bid was higher than I expected based on my previous research of cost of doors. But I went with Gary for convenience since he did the entire job, including painting the doors and baseboards at his place. Gary preferred to use his supplier rather than one I found whose prices seemed reasonable and had a very modest delivery fee. I agreed to go w/Gary's supplier, but was surprised that one of the bedroom closet doors ended up being custom, because the supplier I looked into had it in stock. This custom door ended up being back-ordered, and delayed the job by a week. I did not get to meet the carpenter on the first day, due to unavoidable circumstances on their part, and felt uncomfortable about that. Due to my work schedule, I was unable to be at home during the work. Gary originally said the job would take 2-3 days, which I questioned. Doors are not easy--this house is over 30 years old, entry ways are out of square, etc., issue with one closet needing differing sized by-pass doors. The job took approximately 7 days. There was some mis-communication toward end of job, but Gary cleared it up and took care of all my issues. James did excellent work and doors and baseboards look great. I wanted bi-fold entry doors on one room, but don't like how they turned out, my inexperience with choosing doors. I suggest people take more time looking at different examples of doors before finalizing choices.
Description of Work: Replacement of Interior doors and baseboards in all rooms. Job included tear out and removal of all old doors and baseboards, and replacement with 6 6-panel solid core (not solid wood) masonite skins doors, one of these custom, 2 closet doors and pantry bifold door that were not solid core, 1 bi-fold entry set not solid core. Bid included replacing brass hinges with satin nickel hinges on all doors, installing satin nickel knobsets, priming and spray painting all doors, priming and painting all new 3-1/4" baseboards, nail holes spackled and paint touchup, caulking of baseboard at wall.

For the most part, everything went beautifully. Darryl and the crew were outstanding - able & courteous craftsmen who took pride in their work. The work schedule was planned carefully, so that you should not have to wait for something or someone. The entire job was only to take about four weeks, but was delayed for two weeks when the cabinet & flooring company made a mistake in our order & did not order everything that was needed. This mistake was not discovered until the day the cabinets were to be installed and the men opened all the boxes from the cabinet company. (Ironically, the boxes had been sitting in our garage for 2 1/2 weeks.) Work was halted while we waited for the pieces that had to be installed before countertops went on. The cabinets were the one thing that we had not ordered thru Gary - he probably would have caught the omissions! (I didn't include the cost of the cabinets -$14,000 - in the amount we paid to G.A. Chott.) We chose the composite granite sinks, oil-rubbed bronze faucets, undercabinet & can lights, & Silestone countertop by going to the showroom Gary maintains. That was a fun trip! The appliances & flooring were bought thru retailers that Gary has arrangements with. What we did ourselves: -we spray-painted our refrigerator black (easy), and most of the stove as well (not so easy; ordered some parts in black!) -used the existing bright brass ceiling fixture by spray-painting it with an oil-rubbed bronze paint - changed the look of our vinyl vertical blinds by spray-painting them with spray paint made for plastic surfaces - painted the kitchen walls & ceiling By writing this report almost a year and a half after they completed the job, I am able to say that this was a quality job through and through. For instance, the cabinets were expertly installed - no sagging doors or gaping cracks where seams meet. The same goes for all the other areas of work. We have had many complements on our kitchen since it was completed! They stand behind their warranty also. We had a couple of little problems about 4 & 6 months after completion. Darryl came out both times within a day of our call, & either fixed it himself, or sent someone else the next day.
Description of Work: We retained Gary Chott and his men to completely tear out all of our old kitchen cabinets and floor, and install a new floor and new cabinets. Working with Gary, we designed a new floor plan that gave us a wonderful kitchen that has lots of storage, roomy work areas and plenty of light. Gary arranged for all the necessary county inspections & licenses Work performed by the Chott crew: - hung a long plastic curtain in the open space between our kitchen/eating area & living room (to contain the dust) & put down cardboard & plastic floor protector on all walking areas in the living room & hallway - moved the china cabinet, kitchen table & chairs into the adjoining room - tore out everything that was going & hauled it away; moved our stove & refrigerator into the garage because we were keeping those. - replaced drywall & insulation where needed - installed new subfloor and vinyl sheet flooring - put holes in the ceiling & walls where outlets, lights, etc. were going, & patched holes where old ones were taken out - primed the kitchen ceiling - installed the new dishwasher & over-the-stove microwave oven - installed the new cabinets, molding, etc. - hauled the appliances & furniture back into their original spots - cleaned up when everything was done - the subcontractors for electrical work put in a new, bigger circuit breaker box, ceiling can lights, pendant lights over the new island, & more outlets & switches all over the place - the plumbing subcontractors adjusted the plumbing for the primary sink that was moved over a few inches, installed new plumbing for the 2nd prep sink & garbage disposal that went into the new center island, & installed the 2 new sinks & faucets - the countertop people measured the cabinets as soon as they were installed, delivered & installed the Silestone countertops & backsplashes
