He made a house call back in March this year and I liked that because I don’t have to bring the computer somewhere. He did well. He cleaned up my hard drive and had all my files copied from my old computer to my current computer. He planned to recycle my old computer so minus the worry of hauling it somewhere. I still have the old hard drive, I won’t have to worry about my old files. He is responsive, got back to me quickly.

I am an amateur in computers with tons of photos that I had hoped to be able to enjoy and share via computer software. That did not happen. There were four such software programs on the pc at least. I had not understood how the folders worked on pc and had created a monster. From time to time I would attempt to start over and organize, but after 7 years of failed effort and the addition of more photos, it became unsalvageable. I was finding web pages, pop up ads and all sorts of bizarre things in the photo software with my pictures, still do not know how they got there. I couldn't figure out the 'virtual photo' concept, so I was afraid to delele anything for fear of losing a grandchild's picture. We have needed professional help but have been afraid to hire for all the horror stories by dishonest techs. In Angie's List magazine last November I found an ad for CompuSmile and decided to look it up. The plenary reports were terrific, and there were alot of them. I noticed that the owner always responded to a member's report. I was impressed at the tone and content on the CompuSmile website, and in particular felt good about the owner's qualifications and experience. So, finally, Scott Quinby, CompuSmile came yesterday 3/26/13 at 10a.m. He left at 8p.m. The man didn't stop for lunch, he hardly came up for air. I had a three page list of issues &/or questions. He listened and quickly knew where to begin. My computer had been doing some strange things for some time, it was slow, application hangs. The first two tests Scott ran revealed no malware. He was still suspicious and ran a third test - there it was. I can't explain in detail how or what he did, only that he didn't accept the first or second tests 'good news' as good enough. He took the additional measures because of a suspicion that proved right. That was fixed. He did a full system check, took off critical, but too old programs and reinstalled them. He removed items we did not need, recommended better replacement programs that were free in a couple of instances. He cleaned out an old external hard drive we had and set it up for use with photo saving. It just seemed as though Scott was checking it out as though it were his own. All through the day I was asking questions, interrupting him...He kept saying he didn't mind and stayed on task while we talked. Scott is soft-spoken, polite, courteous, intuitive, and patient. The bulk of the time spent was locating and merging the photos into one place. THOUSANDS! I don't know anyone who would have been so pleasant and patient for so many hours at such a mundane task. After deleting tons and tons of garbage, finding another ton of photos/videos/scans gone wild, Scott installed a photo & edit program he recommended might be more intuitive for me. Before he left every photo was in a functionally organized & understandable filing system. He made sure that the external hard drive was operating properly. And then turned the back-up software on. Ten hours after he arrived we happily wrote CompuSmile a check!And we will call Scott for our computer needs.Ten hours after he arrived we happily wrote CompuSmile a check! Called for service and Scott was here the next day to check the computer and gave us a lot of information regarding the problem. He told us our monitor was bad and we purchased a new one and everything worked as he had said it would. He was great to work with and we would call him again for any problem we would have in the future.

Scott Quinby and CompuSmile was AWESOME. I had just purchased my laptop with Windows 8, I was extremely unhappy with windows 8. Scott returned my initial call within 2 hours, he assessed my issue andeven offered to pick up my computer since he was in my area. He contacted me that evening offering a solution to my computer issue. He was able to install Window 7 (which I had previously purchased) and return my computer the next day! I did add a "tip" to his fees because of his fast, thorough, efficient service, and pick up and delivery. This was a no headache solution to my desperate computer issue.

My computer stoppd running, only to find out it was becasue of a part that makes watching tv on the computer wore out and blocked everything else, the computer was also running and responding very slowly. H took the part of i never watch tv on the computer and clean up the computer and it runs great now.

I contacted CompuSmile, primarily as a result of the numerous complementary reports that had been previously submitted, and I was not disappointed. Scott was able to show up the next day and completed the removal of the virus that had blocked any use of the computer. He also pointed out some items, such as the anti-virus software which were out of date, and brought these up to the latest versions. In addition, after resolving the computer issues, he was able to resolve a couple of connectivity issues with a wireless printer and an internet enabled television. I was very satisfied, and would certainly use CompuSmile again!

Scott arrived on time. When I initially scheduled the appointment I told Scott I wanted my desktop computer repaired because it was running slow. He said it probably needed more RAM. At the time I didn't realize my computer was 8 years old. When Scott arrived I told him about the age of the computer. I had purchased a laptop and printer but I had planned to have it set up at a later date. He told me that for the price of repairing the old computer he could have my new laptop and printer up and running. I was kind of hesitant because I was comfortable with the old and knew that the new would present a challenge. I said okay, set the new one up, and that's what he did. I am so glad he did. It is such an improvement over the old one. Scott was professional and knowledgeable. I would definitely call him again.

I chose CompuSmile from Angie's list specifically after reading the other reviews. This is the second time I have used Scott and CompuSmile. The first time he fixed a computer issue involving the need for more memory. This time we bought a new computer and asked Scott to set it up for us and move our old computer downstairs with a remote internet access. Scott handled both tasks very well. I trust Scott's computer knowledge. It is nice to deal with the same person when I call about a computer issue. That is what CompuSmile gives me. It is comforting to have your own IT resource. Our main problem was that we could no longer print PDF files, that some emails were coming in with no pictures attached, and that sometimes emails would be cut off on the right side of the page. I called 3 local companies for approximate prices, and opinions of what was wrong, and CompuSmile was by far the cheapest and sounded the best. Scott called back within a half hour of my leaving the initial message for him. We agreed on a day and time and he came out a few days later. We live in South County and Scott lives in St. Charles but he does not charge for travel time or to walk in your door. He charges by the hour and that starts after he arrives at your house. His hourly price ($88) is much lower than other companies I called. He was able to handle all of our computer problems and it was a pleasure working with him. We are seniors who don't know a lot about how computers work but Scott never talked down to us. He explained things in a way we could understand, made suggestions, and fixed all the problems we had called him about. He did not waste time and would continue to work as he explained to us what he was doing. He was here for 2 1/2 hours and with our Angie's List coupon we saved $10. We would definitely recommend Scott Quinby to everyone and will certainly call him again if we need computer help. Scott is personable, professional, and reliable. He IS CompuSmile so you know who you are getting when you call--that's personal service!
Description of Work: Scott cleaned up the computer by removing programs that we didn't want and/or need. He also explained why we did not need certain programs and why he would recommend getting rid of them. He tested the computer speed to make sure we were getting what we had paid for. He fixed the problem we had of not being able to print PDF files and in some cases not being able to view or download files. Sometimes emails were not letting the pictures appear and he fixed that too. He explained things in terms we could understand and answered the many questions that we had for him. He informed us that our hard drive was full and recommended we buy another one. We had other printing problems related to screen size and he showed us how to go back and forth with the size of print we preferred.

Scott was easy to schedule. He arrived for the appointment promptly. After explaining I wanted him to scrub my old PC, Scott explained it was less time consuming to remove the hard drive and leave it with me rather than scrub my personal information from my old computer. He could have just done what I asked and made more money for himself but he offered a more timely and cost effective solution. He also offered to recyle my old PC for me. That meant I didn't have to lug the components to Best Buy which again saved me time and labor. I was delighted he made this process so simple for me. The second job was educating me on all the devices I have to operate my TV. I took notes while he taught me how to use each clicker so that I can create a cheat sheet for future reference. He is a patient teacher and at no point did he talk down to me. I now have full use of the entertainment possibilities on my TV. He also showed me how to access and use some of the other options on my TV I was not familiar with, giving me even more choices. Scott is friendly and professional and the jobs were accomplished in a timely manner. Over my years of experience with Scott I cannot recommend him highly enough! Thanks, Scott!

Since I had used Scott before I didn't have to ask a lot of questions about his ability or if this is something he does. Instead I was able to just explain what I wanted and knew that he would make it happen. Again, I appreciated the convenience of him driving to my house and meeting me after work. Not only did he download everything he showed me exactly what he had found and planned to download just to be sure. Then we went through other stuff that didn't really need to be downloaded and he explained what everything was and let me decide. There were one or two things that I probably didn't need but he was happy to download those for me too. He never talks down to me or makes me feel as untech savvy as I am which I really appreciate. I told him I really appreciated it and he thanked me but told me that is what he was there for and the service he provides. I told him I understood that but still appreciated it as I have in the past been talked down to by others when it comes to technology. He did do a couple extra things to ensure all was good and even put my relative's name in for the data administrator. When I took it over to her and she saw it was personalized she was thrilled!!! He did offer to go over and help get it set up but when I expressed not knowing the condition of her house he said he would still be happy to help with that or helping her know how to use it. Overall I cannot recommend him highly enough and will continue to use him as opportunities come up and have already recommended him to others. Highly recommend.
Description of Work: I needed to have information (data and documents) downloaded to a flashdrive, to have this information then erased from the computer and then everything reset so I could pass the computer on to a relative to use. I wanted to be sure that the information was kept by me but the computer still able to work for her.

I found Scott on Angies list and was really impressed by his reviews and his website. I emailed him to see if he would be willing to work with us and to kind of get an understanding of what needed to be done. (In my layman's terms I wanted the computer "wiped" and all personal information taken off but saved somehow and wasn't sure if we wanted to keep the hard drive or not afterwards). He explained that he could download all the information onto a secure flashdrive that he would bring for me and then could either erase the hard drive and leave it in the computer or remove it totally. The reason I wanted everything "wiped" was so I could donate the computers to an organization. Not only did Scott know of a reputable organization (and gave me their website to check out) he even offered to take them and do it himself. I appreciated the offer but since I wanted a tax receipt for the items I did it myself. Oh, and while he was waiting for something to finish downloading on one of the computers he fixed something on my PC!! Wow!! He was so professional and didn't mind answering a million questions from me and explaining everything. He even asked about things I didn't even know to ask in order to make sure the computer information was in a format I could use and he did end up pulling the hard drives for us. A huge bonus for me was that he came to my house downtown in the city and didn't act like it was a problem at all. This not only saved me from loading both computers into my car and then reassembling them it was so nice to be in my own house and be able to let the dog out and start to relax after work while he was working on the computer. I really can't say enough about Scott and his professionalism. I have been meaning to write this for some time (and can't believe it was so long ago) because I feel like it is important to sing the praises of work well done. We did end up using him again-but that is for another review and a different problem). Great job!!
Description of Work: Scott assembled the old computers from their boxes and went to work to find the important informaiton and to download it onto a flashdrive. He was very proficient explaining exactly what I was doing and even working on both computers simulaneouly to save me some money. I appreciated how efficient he was being mindful that you are paying for his time and the Angie's discount as well.

He arrived promptly, which was very important to me since both of my computers were down. He was very professional and efficient. He made sure that I was comfortable that all issues had been resolved and answered all of my questions before leaving. It was very easy having him in our home. After being out for the evening, I came home and found my laptop computer was dead. I tried removing and reinstalling the battery, but it did not help. It was already plugged into a wall outlet, but it still wouldn't power up. I went to CompuSmile's website (on my desktop computer) and sent a service request detailing my problem, expecting to hear back from Scott in the morning. I'm a bit of a late night person and was surprised to get an email back from Scott shortly after midnight. Scott suggested a couple of things I could try and said he would contact me in the morning. One of the things he suggested was to remove the battery and find an outlet that I know is working to plug the laptop into. After unplugging the laptop from an outlet I assumed had been working and plugging it in elsewhere, the laptop powered right up. I greatly appreciated Scott's quick response to my service request and his suggestions for what I could do on my own. I will definitely keep this company in mind for future computer repair needs.
