. As usual, Scott came checked my pc, installed the flash backup and suggested to think about a new pc. My present one is about 6 and half years old. He did much work on my wife's machine. She is visually impaired and he set up a side bar screen that was magniied for her use. He orgainzed her aol folder for more efficient use and instructed her to use the pc more effectively. Much time but well spent. We have used Scott since 2013. He is very professional, and accomodating. Knowledgeable beyond words.
Description of Work: I asked Scott to check my pc due to frezzing , provide flash disk backup and review the condition of my wife's pc.

Scott performed software changes that included: -removal of all previous security packages and loaded AVG Free 2014; -brought all other package software and drivers up to date; -removed extraneous software that somehow finds it's way onto a computer though you/spouse/kids didn't specifically realize it; -while downloading software, Scott stayed busy utilizing his time to remove files, cleanup log files and doing anything else that his experience and expertise uncovered. Scott performed these changes at our house over 3+ hours. Scott charged less than he could have, for which we are very grateful. Scott communicated in a timely fashion to setup the appointment and was prompt in arriving. Scott was professional and respectful yet also friendly and personable. Our HP laptop has been running great since Scott worked on it. The lockups no longer occur and the boot speed as well as overall speed is much improved. I would call Scott again for future PC needs and have no qualms about recommending him to family and friends. Overall it was a very positive experience.
Description of Work: Scott Quinby of CompuSmile corrected slows, sped up boot time and fixed other software issues that caused our HP laptop to regularly (multiple times a day) lockup.

Scott was on time for his appointment, polite, professional, and knowledgeable. He diagnosed the problem, and after a few questions determined that the hard drive installed was not the hard drive we paid for when purchasing the computer. He took the hard drive back to the company that had installed it. They recognized their error and provided Scott with a new hard drive meeting the specifications that we had originally ordered, and provided it to him free of charge. He transferred the information from the old hard drive to the new one, and when he installed it our computer worked very well and contained all of the information that was on the old hard drive. It seemed to us that it was a seamless and painless process. Scott went over and above what was expected, and was very fair in his pricing. We recommend Scott highly.

He was able to obtain the information and he also set up a system for backing up future pictures/video on the cloud. As always, he did the job quickly and professionally. I have used him many times and will do so in the future. I would recommend him to anyone that needs with anything related to computing systems and equipment. He is especially good with people that are only mildly computer literate.

Checked out problem with hard disk. Backed up the files, etc from my computer. Helped to order the restore disks from HP and will acquire and install the new hard disk for me.

After arriving, he asked me a number of questions to try and figure out what had happened initially and then set about to restore the file. It was wonderful to have someone come to my home instead of dragging a computer around. Scott was prompt and very courteous. He explained what he was doing and didn't make me feel foolish for having been too trigger happy with the delete button! I will most assuredly call him for any computer issues I have in the future and I will certainly recommend him to family and friends.
Description of Work: Scott restored a file which I managed to delete, cleaned up some other files, and helped me with password protection on several items. My issues were all soft-ware related.

This was all completed in one visit of about 5 hours. Excellent service by any measure. I will use this company for all future computing needs.
Description of Work: Installed new desk top computer and software applications; including setting up Windows 8 to function more like Windows 7 - very user friendly. Removed hard drives from a lap top and desk top. Performed troubleshooting on a lap top and corrected problems I was experiencing. Moved all files from old computer to the new one; set up email; re-established antivirus contract to cover the new computer; established a file back up "cloud" service; and provided user training on new systems.

Scott promptly returned my phone-call & also corresponded with me via e-mail before his scheduled appointment. He arrived on-time and graciously spent over 3 hours to provide several critical computer services which included: confirming the failing hard-drive diagnosis, backing-up all of our hard-drive data, transferring all that data to our new computer, setting up our new computer & monitor, organizing all of our scattered data into appropriate folders (documents, photos, videos) & cleaning up unnecessary icon short-cuts that were crowding my start-up screen. He also installed software that I had purchased & then made sure that our printer was set-up with our new computer and that everything was working properly. He is very knowledgeable and communicates the computer lingo into understandable lay-men language. He explained how to continue to back-up our data onto the portable hard-drive which he volunteered to purchase for us ~ that was extremely thoughtful of him, because losing all of our computer-stored data was a great worry to us but now, thanks to Scott, we are protected. We highly recommend him for his expertise, honesty, reliability and great personality. He is a true treasure and at this holiday time of year, he brought joy to our world!
Description of Work: Scott diagnosed that our computer hard-drive was failing and he kindly suggested a store where we were able to receive the best price for the much better replacement Dell computer that Scott recommended. He professionally performed all the necessary steps to properly set-up our new computer, key-board, mouse, monitor & portable back-up hard-drive. He was very thorough and checked the entire installation while explaining to me how to operate our new computer features.

I called Scott the morning of the 15th. He said would be there by 4PM. Was on time and quickly was able to restore my computer's corrupted AOL software. Scott is pleasant to work with. And it extremely knowledgeable and reasonable.

I had lost the ability to access my e-mail at all. I called ATT because they are my provider. They couldn't do anything because my e-mail was actually with Yahoo. The man at ATT did give me a good piece of advice and that was when I called Yahoo I should not give out my credit card number but he would not explain why. I found out why when I called Yahoo. After an hour of talking to an outsourced person he told me I had been hacked, he could fix it and it would cost me $400. I said I would think about it and get back with him if I wanted him to do the job. He called my home four or five times trying to get me to let him do the work. I had already decided to work with someone locally and chose Compusmile. I called Scott, we set a date, he had to cancel but he called and let me know of the change. He fixed my e-mail, got me a new e-mail address, fixed other things on my computer and my husband's computer. He is such a pleasant person to work with and so knowledgeable about computers. If or I should say when I have problems again I will definitely call him.

Scott is just wonderful to work with. He picked up my computer and let me know what was wrong with it. He gave me and estimate and stuck within the quote he provided. He also let me know when the computer would be ready. He was prompt and everything went smoothly. He also returned all the old hardware that was not working. The computer was covered under an extended warranty and works great like it's new again. When I spoke with the warranty company who asked about all the work I was having done, they said that $400 was extremely reasonable and is way less than what a larger commercial company would charge.
Description of Work: Complete overhaul of laptop including hard drive replacement. Ordered back up discs from manufacturer and replaced files.

Everything went fine. I talked to Scott several times before his visit to discuss myself and my sister's needs. Since my sister was not confident that she would know the right questions to ask him if she met with him alone and I also needed my laptop looked at, we asked Scott if he could see us at the same time. He agreed. He figured out what was going on with my laptop, he then backed up my files and proceeded to correct the issue while simultaneously assessing my sister's laptop. Within an hour, he had fixed my connectivity issue, assessed my sister's old computer, and provided her with two suggestions for a new laptop. All in all, I am extremely happy with his service and happy to say that I am writing this review from my laptop! Now, let's discuss the price. Best Buy quoted me $200 and Toshiba quoted me $100 (but they would actually be talking me through the repairs and not actually fixing it themselves), and Scott charged me less than both of them ($88 for the hour-$10 Angie's list coupon+$20 for the flash drive=$78). Thanks Scott!!

Scott and I exchanged several messages to set up the time for him to come. He was prompt in returning my calls and he really worked with me around scheduling which I greatly appreciated. He arrived promptly at the appointed time. He worked for a little over two hours explaining to me everything he was doing. He was very respectful of my outdated desire to continue to use AOL and helped me fix all the issues I was having. He was thorough and worked efficiently. I am sure the time will come when I have more computer issues and I will call him again.
Description of Work: My desk top stopped being able to connect to the internet. Scott cleaned off a myriad of "things that should not be there" and updated things that needed to be updated. I also had a problem with my laptop skipping around when I scrolled and Scott fixed that by changing one setting. It also sent emails before I wanted to and we problem solved that issue also. My desk top is working well now, much quicker and I know more safely.

My laptop was a mess. I was not able to use it at all. Our fairly new desktop had a few issues. Scott spent several hours at our house cleaning everything up and giving us some tips. He was very patient, knowledgable, professional, and polite. I would highly recommend him.

Scott is professional and very pleasant. It is easy to ask him questions and have him respond in a way that a lay person can understand. He was punctual in responding to my initial email requesting help, and he arrived on the dot of our scheduled appointment. We have had many computer techs in the past to assist us with issues. Hands-down, Scott was the most knowledgeable and the most professional! I would strongly recommend him.
Description of Work: Scott Quinby came as scheduled. He fine-tuned two computers. One of the computers had few issues, so he upgraded Adobe Reader and Java. He also ran tests to see that everything was working properly. The second computer had numerous issues, most prominent is that it ran VERY slowly. Scott installed additional RAM, found some "interrupt" processes that were seriously slowing down the computer, and repaired those. That second computer now runs better than it has since the day we received it!

Please see above. Scott stayed for six hours, ensuring that we had a fully operating computer system. Cannot say enought good things about Scott, his ability and his integrity. Once he determined that our Desktop computer was beyong saving, he asked me to write a check for less money, since we weren't using the power source he brought in for that computer. Although he worked on task for six hours, Scott didn't charge for what he termed "nonproductive time."
Description of Work: Scott Quinby fixed our laptop computer, which we thought was a lost cause. He worked diligently to repair our Desktop computer mainframe, bringing in a power source from his vehicle. At first, it looked like the Desktop computer was repaired, but Scott stayed on task, starting, running and restarting the computer. When it seemed that the Desktop would not operate properly, Scott offered to transfer all of my files from the Desktop to the laptop, and did so. He also hooked up the laptop with my printer. Scott's service was invaluable, since I operate two businesses from my home office. He was completely professional courteous and fair. I would recommend CompuSmile and Scott Quinby to anyone.

I think he did a great job. He stayed quite a while, making sure my computer purged the unnecessary files. He took the time to explain what had happened and how he was fixing it. Very happy with his service. Would use him again. (I can't remember the date of service, so this may not be accurate.)
Description of Work: My computer had a virus. Scott got rid of the virus, installed some software to keep it from happening again and explained what I needed to do to keep it up and running. I had somehow managed to accumulate a TON of unnecessary files, which were going to the wrong folder. He helped me get rid of them, so my computer runs better.

I left a voice message first thing in the morning and Scott called back within 30 minutes. After I summarized the situation, he offered to come that same afternoon. He spent 2.5 hours at my home, working straight through, leaving at 7:15pm. He explained what he was doing as he did it. He was very personable and professional, and flexible regarding scheduling. I appreciate that he admitted he couldn't explain what caused the problem, and that he showed me what to do should it occur again. His rates were reasonable and worth every penny. I won't hesitate to call him again.
Description of Work: I had lost my wireless Internet connection a few days earlier and determined the problem was with my computer and not my ISP. Scott quickly determined that the network was royally messed up. He not only fixed the problem by doing a system restore but reinstalled some software and resolved some unrelated nuisance issues.

Scott came and got right to work--at first like a car taken to the mechanic the error messages would not pop up. However in a bit it started to act up again. Scott went to the ATT website and upgraded my email programs, upgraded the safety protocols and then slowly and precisely got one program up at at time until once again all three were working. What a headache it was for me but no problem for Scott. Saved my from pulling my hair out. Scott was considerate, through and fixed the problem. And now my programs work better than they ever have. Sweet!
Description of Work: Hugh problems with email client and 2 software programs attached to them. Could only download total emails once a day--and only after r reboot --sometimes. Scott came out upgraded email programs with the two attached software programs and my IPad. It was sweet.
