It went very well. He answered some stupid questions I had in terms that I could understand. I thought the cost was reasonable considering all the work he did and the amount of time he devoted to the tasks he did. I would recommend Scott for the beginner as well as someone who knows computers but wants to make absolutely sure that the job is done right.
Description of Work: He came out to set up my new PC. I needed files from my current PC which had died moved to the new one. He was able to get EVERYTHING that I wanted done!!! He gave me a lesson on using Windows 10 which was new to me. He moved everything from the desktop on the old one onto the new one and removed the hard drive from the old one so it could make sure that it was disposed of properly by me.

Contacted Scott in the morning by leaving a voice mail message. He returned my call after only a short delay. Set up appointment for that afternoon. At about 1130 he called and said he completed his early appointment. and asked if he could come to my house for diagnosis of my problems. He was very thorough, looking at the error message I was receiving and explaining the best way to fix the problem. He ensured existing program data was saved, replace the hard drive, loaded a clean version of windows, and reinstalled the the critical programs with the copied data. He verified all the new programs worked and the data was correct. During the entire process he Scott described what he was doing in a manner I could understand. His prompt attention to my problem saved me from losing all data if the hard drive would have failed completely.
Description of Work: Replaced the C drive, operating system, and reloaded some of the critical programs along with the data he saved from the old drive.

This was the second time we used him to work on the computers in 2 years. He is wonderful!!! He explains what he is doing as he goes along and stops to answer our questions. I will continue to hire him to fix our computers and maybe to tune up our computers yearly. Thank you Scott for your excellent services and prompt scheduling.
Description of Work: Deleted viruses and malware from our computer (in Mo) and (laptop used at an Illinois site and fixed at our Mo site). Weeded out programs we did not need and deleted misc junk not needed. He checked to see that the computers were updating programs as scheduled.

My computer was shutting down and/or monitor losing power unexpectedly. I have an accounting business, so this was a big concern. Scott ran diagnostics, and found several things causing issues. Downloaded new drivers where needed and completely removed all junk and trash (which I thought was being handled properly through my System Mechanic software). I was also having trouble syncing to my One Drive and getting Window updates, which he corrected.. Great to work, with and very helpful in answering questions and offering ideas on making the computer function better for my requirements. I would and will recommend Scott and his computer repair services to anyone. He is very professional, courteous and takes pride in his work.

Scott was very amiable and did a great job of talking about what he was doing without resorting to jargon. He also made sure that all my questions were answered and that I had all the information I needed to troubleshoot any future issues. I would definitely hire him again but, to his credit, I have had no problems since he set up my network and mail.

Job went fine. Scott searched all drives and backups and found the file that contained her contacts, ie address book. He reinstalled it and wife is now happy. Great job Scott. Scott's business card is now in my rolodex for future use. Last two techs have been subpar in regards to Outlook. Scott is now my IT tech for future needs. Will hire him again without hesitation.

Scott Quinby of CompuSmile arrived on time and promptly went to work trying to discover why my PC was not performing properly. He discovered some programs, that I thought I had removed from my PC, had left fragments behind that were using up too much space and running in the background., this caused my PC to crash and many times not respond. He went over everything and cleaned up the PC. He also suggested that I delete some programs that I did not need and change my browser. I was so glad I called Scott as he was most professional, kept me apprised of what he was doing and why. He also set up another printer so I would be able to print again. My current printer had gone belly up. My husband was skeptical about having a tech come in who wasn't from someplace like Best Buy (been there, done that - never again!). However after Scott left he told me that he was really pleased with Scott and he was glad I called him. Scott is a true professional and was able to communicate clearly what he was doing and why, I felt very comfortable having him take care of the computer. I would not hesitate to call him again if I need computer help.

Scott is very professional and patient. Answers all of my questions in terminology that I can understand as I'm not computer savvy. This is the third time I've used him for this service and once again, everything is working great.

It went absolutely great. Scott had to take my computer home with him, and he returned it in only two days. He always called to schedule a time with me and was always right on time. He went over everything, and explained it so I could understand what he did and where I could find everything easily. I'm not the most computer literate person, but he made it very easy for me to understand. Now I can back up easily, something I always had a problem with. He organized all my files and programs, God bless him. I had multiple copies of files and it was just a mess. He cleaned everything up and removed all the duplication. Angie's List has great reviews for CompuSmile, and I am just so thankful for those reviews and for Scott Quinby's expertise. He is very talented at what he does and very proessional and personable. Scott responded to my message within a couple of hours, and was able to make a "house call" on the same day...very important to me since I work from home and had several looming deadlines. He knows his business well, and clearly explained what the issues were and why (which really helps empower the customer who doesn't know much about the computer they are so dependent on!) I think finding professional, experienced, GRACIOUS computer repair help is extremely hard - especially with this kind of responsiveness and price point. CompuSmile is a real find and I now can stop being terrified when my computer acts up!

Scott responded quickly to our inquiry. He diagnosed the problem and recommended a new pc due to a defective hard drive (our old pc was five years old). He also recommended Micro Center as a retailer that he frequently uses in his business. We purchased a new Dell pc from Micro Center and Scott restored the files that he was able to retrieve from our failing hard drive. After setting up the software and files on our new pc as well as setting up a regular file backup process, we asked for his assistance in resolving some printer issueds with our laptop and some faxing issues with our printer/fax. He was able to resolve everything we requested and we are very pleased with his service. Would highly recommend CompuSmile LLC as a very reliable source for resolving home computer issues.
Description of Work: Diagnosed pc problem, recommended solution and computer retailer, retrieved files from failed hard drive, restored files on new pc and setup and installed softwre on new pc. Resolved printer issues on additional laptop pc and resolved fax machine issues.

Everything went great. Scott came over on Labor Day (no day of rest for us entrepreneurs), He was on time and prepared. Replaced the hard drive and then reinstalled Windows and all the drivers. Had a fully functional computer again in less than two hours. My laptop is now running better than it has in a year. Disk access is quicker and no longer experience crashes while browsing the internet. Scott is a very friendly guy who aims to please. He is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I felt very comfortable with him working on my laptop. Overall a great experience.

Although we were asking if he could work on the printer, he advised that it would be almost as economical to just get a new printer and gave us the model number of the upgrade of the printer we had. He said he could install it for us if we needed him to; however, he basically did himself out of the work by telling us this, especially as he doesn't carry the printer that he suggested. The information was greatly appreciated, and we will certainly call him if and when we DO need to have some work done.
Description of Work: I had called Scott to ask about installing parts in a printer we have. I left a message for him to call back. He called back in a very timely manner.

I found Scott via Angie's List based upon the great reviews he has. He was professional, communicated well, and showed up a few minutes early (after calling to confirm that he was on his way). Within a half hour my son's computer was up and running again. He also deleted an expired security program and installed a free one to take its place. It was a pleasure to work with Scott and I would highly recommend him to others needing this type of service!

He loaded all of the files from my desktop computer onto my new laptop and wiped out the desktop hard-drive for personal security. He also took the old equipment with him to be recycled. He also took my scanner and printer to be recycled. He made it very easy. He helped me accomplish an awful lot. I would recommend him and I would tell them to expect professionalism and a good job.

Scott replied to all correspondence promptly and professionally. He arrived on time for the appointment, calling ahead of time. Once it was determined that the laptop was not salvageable, he removed my hard drive and verified that it was accessible via an adapter. He then, very patiently, walked me through the equipment and steps that I would need to take to attach my old hard drive to a newly purchased computer in order to transfer my files. He said to contact him should I have any issues with the process and indeed responded very promptly to a query I had when I was underway with the transfer. I felt that his services were very affordable and he was very encouraging as to what I could do on my own but was available should I have had any issues. I would definitely recommend him no matter your level of comfort with computers and his contact information is in my "keeper list"!
Description of Work: My computer had been running slowly, which sent me researching contractors but this was expedited when liquid was spilled on the laptop. Scott examined the computer, removed the hard drive, explained how to attach adapter and download my files on to the new computer I was going to have to purchase.

Scott arrived punctually. My initial issue was that I was unable to install Adobe Flash Player on Internet Explorer when the update notification came up. Scott, too, had issues in getting it installed. He stopped and informed me that I could use Firefox or other browsers to save myself the time/money it would cost for him to figure out what was happening that caused the install failure. I asked that he do what was necessary to repair the problem. He explored the various possible issues, and found there were some registry entries that was preventing the install. He corrected those, uninstalled all Adobe products, reinstalled all Adobe products, and the Adobe Flash Player install went through. After he left, I noticed that my Facebook page would not load on Internet Explorer. I called him to let him know. Within a couple of hours he returned to troubleshoot that issue. He ended up reinstalling IE8, the highest version my XP operating system will allow. The Facebook issue remained, and Scott suggested I wait a day or so to see if it would resolve itself. He said to let him know. Unfortunately, the issue remains, and I have advised him of same. I have absolute confidence that if the problem continues, Scott will have a "fix" for it. Scott is a joy to work with. Though he is infinitely knowledgeable about all-things-computer and other electronic devices, he does not make a person feel stupid for not knowing computer-speak. He explains things in terms a lay person can understand. He is patient, optimistic, reassuring, and very pleasant. For anyone having issues with computers or other electronic devises, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you give Scott a call. His pricing is fair, and his analytic skills are the best I've found in my many years of working on computers.
Description of Work: Scott Installed Adobe Flash Player, though the installation was not a "simple" one.
