In a recent job we had nearly every virus possible in our computer. He came out and took the time to get the computer completely cleaned out even after he had to make a hospital visit because he cut his finger on our hard drive. Also if he thinks a job does not warrant a house call he is very good about explaining the procedure and situation over the phone and it is always straightforward and clear with what we need to do. I think the world of him and that he is a bright, competent and consistently pleasant and respectful individual. It is an absolute pleasure to deal with him.
Description of Work: Typically, whenever we have a computer problem that we cannot handle ourselves we call him.

Scott was agreeable to providing these services, and asked questions to ascertain exactly what type of printer/scanner I wanted. The following week, he arrived several minutes ahead of the scheduled time, and set to work removing the old printer and the scanner, and installing the new combination one. I then showed him several things that weren't working correctly on my PC, and he fixed those problems. He was here for two hours, and did a wonderful job. He is very knowledgeable, accommodating, efficient, dependable, and has a great customer-service attitude (he was willing to return a couple of weeks later to re-do something on my computer when I changed my mind about it). The above price includes the cost of the new printer-scanner (which I really like), plus the two service calls to my home. I am very glad to have Scott to call on for all of my computer needs.
Description of Work: My old scanner stopped working, and since the separate printer was also old, I asked Scott Quinby of CompuSmile to select, purchase, and install a new combination printer/scanner for the computer he had purchased and installed for me about 2 years ago. I also asked that he do some general maintenance/cleanup work on my computer.

Scott is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. In roughly three hours he had both computer systems up and running like NEW, our wireless Internet was completely set up and working properly and he even helped my fianc with some Ipod issues he was having. In addition, he offered to give us some tips and techniques to keep our systems running smoothly. In about eight weeks we are going to purchase a new system, and we'll be using Scott to build a custom set up. He is worth every single penny and has saved us a small fortune.
Description of Work: We were having difficulties with two laptop computers in our home. Over time, our systems had slowed down and frequently showed evidence of some sort of mal-ware, despite frequent checks and spy-ware programs. Also, we'd purchased a wireless router from an electronics store, which we were ASSURED was easy to set up-NOT! We moved to a new home in March, after which our computer problems worsened to the point where we knew we needed help, but weren't sure exactly what was wrong. We spent several hundred dollars with the electronics store's computer technicians, which was a complete waste of time and money. After checking Angie's List, we found reviews for "Compusmile".

Scott was originally scheduled to come to our new house to secure our wireless internet. However, we had additional problems with the wireless internet, and he straightened them all out and got all of our computers up and running on the internet. He needed additional equipment which he had in his car. He tried the new equipment which ultimately did not work, so he did not charge us for these. While he originally gave us an estimate for a half hour of his time, he ended up spending about 4 hours at our house (he had to leave and come back later in the evening due to a prior commitment). We did not mind paying for the extra time as he did an awesome job! He was extremely helpful! I am so glad to have found him he is a great resource!

I called Scott and he spent at least twenty minutes answering the questions I had regarding my computer problems. We scheduled an appointment for a house call to evaluate problems with a CD/DVD drive. He came out and determined that the drive was fine, but, some software conflicts existed. He tuned up my system and solved the problems I was having.
Description of Work: Scott cleaned up my computer for faster operation, set up a printer on my home network and diagnosed a problem with the CD/DVD drive. He provided advice that allowed my son to complete a Powerpoint project for school.

Trying to set up a wireless network in my home. Had trouble with configuring router. Spent a lot of time on the phone with tech support, didn't help. Got on Angie's List and found Compusmile. Called Scott and set up an appointment. As it got close to the time of the appointment, he called to tell me he will be 15 min. late because of traffic. I really appreciated that. He showed up and went about setting up my router. He was informative about what he was doing and answered all my questions. He is friendly, very helpful and reasonably priced. I won't hesitate to call him again, or to recommend him to my friends.
Description of Work: Came in and configured some settings on my desktop computer, help with router settings, got wireless network up and running. Started the laptop, configured some settings on it and was able to log on to the wireless network. Helped with security settings on router. Also sped up my old desktop so it boots quicker.

Scott came out on a Saturday morning. He arrived on time. From the beginning Scott was very pleasant and professional. Our initial problem with the printer server took a lot of time and investigation, but he solved it. He also addressed a number of other issues involving security, space, and speed. He was great! Scott is very good at explaining computers and how to use them as well as what it means when your computer is telling you something. He is so patient. We are going to have him come back out to solve my Media Center problem, since we ran out of time before. I would highly recommend Scott for your computer problems.
Description of Work: We were having problems with our wireless printer server. Scott not only solved this problem, he fixed a number of other issues we had.

I had initially called Scott for help in getting an absolutely horrible anti virus program removed from my computer. He not only removed it, but he helped me get a refund -- something I had tried to do for 3 days without success. I called Scott -- he returned my call later the very same day. He spent at least 20 minutes on the phone discussing my computer needs, and in so doing, we found a number of other issues that were worth addressing (see above). Scott arrived at our appointment on time (actually he called to let me know he could come earlier which I really appreciated for my schedule). From the minute he walked in, he was professional. He immediately saw the problem with the anti virus program and began steps to remove it. He worked on two computers concurrently; he was extremely time efficient. He thoroughly and patiently explained everything to me. He did much more than just what was asked. He did not hesitate to make suggestions and do "extras". First-class work.
Description of Work: Removed a not-so-user-friendly anti virus program that had not installed properly on our main computer. Removed anti virus software programs from our other two computers as well, and then installed a different spyware/anti virus program on all 3 of our computers; thoroughly cleaned up our computers, getting rid of a lot of "junk" that was affecting the computers' performance and using up space; re-connected a wireless connection to one of the computers that had not been working. Answered all questions, provided valuable advice and suggestions (too numerous to list) to fit our individual computer needs.

As an aerospace engineer, I am a heavy user of computer capabilities but regard them as tools and know little about their detailed functioning. Scott and I spent an hour or more discussing my computer needs in detail. We talked about every attribute of a computer system and determined what best suited my needs. For example, chip speed and memory are more important for my work than hard drive capacity. We made trade-offs to minimize cost and maximize efficiency. The system installation was just as professional. Even small details were thoroughly checked, such as sending a fax from his own office to check the integrity of my fax phone line. Having dealt with hundreds of IT personnel over the last 43 years of my career, I am certain that Scott ranks up there with the top 1% and he has my highest possible recommendation. So if you are a computer expert or you don't know a computer from a breadbox, contact Scott for assistance.
Description of Work: Scott first provided advice and consultation on the selection and on-line purchase of a new computer system. When it arrived, he came to my home office for the installation and connection to all peripheral devices. This involved moving all of the software from the old system to the new. Installing a new version of Quicken and inputting the data from the old version. Installation of his recommended virus protection software (which automatically updates every day), photo management software and a free version of FORTRAN that I needed. He connected the system to a new high speed cable modem, setup my e-mail box and hooked up a four function printer. He reviewed all the systems and their functions in great detail and removed much of the ash and trash that keep computer systems from operating at peak efficiency.

I was very pleased. I can guarantee that he saved me far more than the $230 that his services cost. I only spent $950.00 on all of the hardware and software discussed above. Plus, he did in a couple of pleasant Saturday hours what it would have taken me all of a frustrated weekend to do (and likely then some) on my own.
Description of Work: The price above includes the following: Scott's time on the phone helping me pick out what capacity and speed computer and related equipment I needed (no need to pay for what you don't need, which I would have definitely done had I not had Scott's help), and Scott's time setting up the computer, printer/scanner/copier, wireless router, installing Microsoft Office and other programs in my home. After the fact, I realized that Scott actually spent time on tasks that he didn't bill me for: Traveling to my home (from St. Charles to Tower Grove) and delivering the computer (as he agreed to have it delivered to his home so I wouldn't have to mess with having someone at my house during the workday to accept delivery), buying the wireless router and looking for the best deal on Microsoft Office for me.

Scott Quimby is the owner and computer technician. He was very patient with me as he walked me through everything. He completed the job in a timely manner and was very accommodating to my needs. I have recommended him to others. He is truly A+ all the way. I really like to support local independent businesses. He is definitely one who stands out as a positive model of good customer service.
Description of Work: The owner of the company helped me choose the appropriate Dell laptop to meet my needs. Then, he set it up. Also, he installed internet, spy ware, firewalls and anti-virus to it. My desktop PC was not working properly so he cleaned it up. He coordinated the PC and laptop so they could work jointly.

I really don't remember the specific problems I was having done, but he stayed a long time and fixed all of the problems. He was very efficient and professional. He was able to get my computer running faster and came back right when our equipment came in.
Description of Work: I had them work on a few problems I had with my PC and they added high speed. The first visit he charged $80 and when the high speed equipment arrived he came back to install it and charged $80 for the second visit.

Scott is extremely professional, polite and knowledgeable about computers. He communicates frequently via email and phone to set up appointments, answer questions, etc. He is a GEM!!!
Description of Work: Scott checked my computer and said the hard drive was damaged and referred me to a company who specializes in fixing them and recovering data. He also attempted to install a wireless Internet card to my old laptop, but it wasn't compatible, so he installed an Ethernet card which allowed us to use the computer with our router and cable modem rather than dial up!

Mr Quimby did not even bother to return several of our phone calls. After two days of waiting I sent him an e-mail and he responded, too late! Another company was called and quickly responded. The total bill $200; and problem corrected. I believe Mr. Quimby did not return my calls because the phone calls were from the 618 area code, which I believe is outside of his service area. Had Mr. Quimby bothered to return a call he would have discovered the phone, like the computer, was located well within the service area in St. Louis county. Apparently Mr. Quimby is not as familar with cell phones as he claims to be with computers.
Description of Work: The project was virus removal from a PC.

Scott is a talented, personable, professional. He was able to meet all our requests. He was able to increase the capability of the desktop by adding RAM and allow the Windows 98 system to talk to the Vista system so we could share existing desktop files on the network. He was very cost conscious and recommended and implemented an excellent low cost solution for our needs. He is worth his fee and any wait to schedule his services.
Description of Work: Remove illegal operations errors on a slow Windows 98SE system 1999 desktop, save existing E Mails in an independent file, convert the existing dial up system and set desktop up on a DSL wireless Network that was already operating with a Vista Laptop.

Scott (the owner) gave me some suggestions over the phone and advised me to get the original SP2 disc from Microsoft and try to install it myself instead of using his services. I tried to do so and failed. Scott agreed to come out although there was a strong possibility that he might not be able to fix it since he was unsuccessful with only one other customer having this same problem. Scott agreed to give it an hour of his time and only charge me for one hour. Scott spent more than 2 hours and tried several different approaches with not success. He only charged me $80-$10 (coupon)or $70 for the visit.
Description of Work: Tried to install Windows SP2 on my home computer after I had tried several times.

Scott did a great job! He corrected some quirky connections and got all three computers connected through the wireless router to the printer (we hadn't been able to get the Mac connected to that printer previously and the desktop had only worked with a USB cable). He did a quick read on the Whole House transmitter and got it working in just a few minutes. He explained other options if we find it doesn't meet our needs for making music available throughout the house. Scott did all the work quickly and professionally.
Description of Work: We recently had to replace our 9-month-old HP printer (still under warranty), but were unable (even with HP assistance) to re-establish the wireless connection to the PC laptop. Scott established wireless printer connections for our two laptops (one PC and one Mac) and the PC desktop. He also installed a Whole House transmitter that acts like our own FM station.

Scott came out to my house was very kind and very efficient. If I have anymore questions about my computer I will call them! They are a very good company to have do work for you. He came out right when I called.

Price was great. He could come out immediately, which was crucial to us. Very apologetic that he could not fix our computer. Will use him again.
Description of Work: Scott came to our home in an attempt to fix a crashed computer. My husband explained over the phone the problem, but when Scott got to look at the computer he could not fix it.

The appointment went great. Scott was on time and didn't faint when he saw my laundry list of items to get done, but once I knew he was coming, I kept remembering things I wished were set up differently. I prioritized the list for him, and he set to work. He's a very pleasant young man who respected my house, and listened intently when I asked questions. He accomplished everything, and made backups where appropriate. He didn't stop working after he left either. I needed to remove the hard drive from the dead notebook so I could sell it on eBay, and he sent a link explaining how to do that. I also posed a problem to him re: a calendar, and he sent several options back by email. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Scott for more work.
Description of Work: Scott reconnected 4 computers to local network, which went down after we had the appointment already set to do other repair and maintenance; determined that the 5th computer had a dead hard drive; fixed the network so I could print to the office printer from my notebook; set up dial-up Internet access for those times when power and satellite are down; streamlined local network; fixed my tinkering in the Start Up section of SysConfig; answered questions. Probably more I've forgotten.

Scott identified the problem as corrupted anti-virus, removed the software from the computer then reinstall an updated version which corrected the problem. In addition, he updated a couple of other programs which improved the speed of the PC. Interesting point, Scott left written directions to fix the problem should it happen again. Because the installation of software causes you to restart the PC several times, Scott offered to look at other PC's while he was waiting for the problem PC to restart, etc.
Description of Work: Had problems with anti-virus blocking e-mail. Also had a problem with the PC running show.
