I'd tried the vendor's online support to no avail. I set up an appointment with Scott. He came out, fixed my problem and suggested some changes that will end up saving me his fee and more. He is wonderful!

We contacted Scott after seeing his company's name and excellent reviews on Angie's List. We were having difficulty with two laptop computers and an older desktop computer, and were seriously considering replacing one of the laptops during the (at the time) upcoming "no sales tax" week-end. Scott generously spoke to my daughter and I on the phone and through emails for about a week before even coming to our house. Through this correspondence, he was able to help my daughter increase the speed of her two year old Hp computer by suggesting the elimination of some programs, as well as some free downloads. On his almost four hour home visit, Scott replaced her hard drive with a much larger one and even saved us about $40 on the hard drive purchase as the drive was on sale at Best Buy online but not at the store; he spoke to the store personnel about the discrepancy and we were able to get the sale price at the retail store. Once the hard drive was installed, Scott restored the computer and assisted my daughter in reloading her programs into it. Needless to say, the new computer purchase was not necessary, which saved us a considerable amount of money. The other laptop, an Acer, also benefitted from Scott's expertise. He was able to speed up the computer, eliminate some unnecessary, tenacious programs on it and thereby increase both the space on the hard drive and the computer's speed at start-up. Scott was able to recycle the other computer, a ten year old Gateway desktop and its components, and since he was already here, we also had him recycle a non-functioning Gateway laptop as well! He removed the hard drives from all the computers that were to be recycled and left them with us. As if all of this wasn't enough, Scott suggested that our wireless internet connection would improve if we moved our router, which he proceeded to do for us. He even suggested, correctly, the solution to a long-standing problem that we were having with a telephone in the house! The Angie's List discount that Scott provided was the icing on the cake.

I found Scott on Angie's List and was impressed by his years of Honors ratings. I called and emailed and he responded curteously and quickly. He never made me feel dumb and never showed off like some "geeks" do! We set a time to meet and he called to let me know he was delayed and would arrive in about 20 minutes, which he did exactly! He offered to remove his shoes which I deeply appreciated. We sat at the dining room table and he did not waste any time. He also helped me with connecting my iPod and my camera. He offered me a first-time user discount and offered to be available by phone for quick questions. I would recommend Scott without reservation! I can't imagine any more professional and competent service.
Description of Work: Scott helped me set up my new computer. He was patient and understanding regarding my lack of computer experience. He was able to remove unnecessary stuff that was just clutter and answered my questions as we went along. He was trained in computer science at Washington U. and has been working in this field for 15--20 years; not sure. I liked him and his style of helping; the experience was useful and pleasant.

From start to finish- Scott was very helpful in providing ideas about which computer to buy for our needs- we found the salespeople at the store unsure and confusing. After purchasing, he came to the house and checked everything out in the set-up- took his time to answer the many questions we had- overall a very postive and and informative experiece. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Scott explained what could have been the problem, my options for fixing or replacing the computer (without trying to sell me anything), and his fee schedule. He was friendly, professional and responsive. The problem was solved for about half what it would have cost if I had it fixed at a "chain" electronics store. Scott will definitely be our "go to" guy for computer issues in the future.
Description of Work: On my 4 year old laptop, I had a critical error on normal start up ("blue screen of death"). I couldn't start the computer in safe mode either. Scott tried to talk me through a fix via email, but when that didn't work he picked up the computer at my house, took it to his office and ran diagnostics, reinstalled Service Pack 2, and tested it to make sure the fix was stable. He then returned it to my house (all in 1 day!).

Found via Angie's List; We've utilized Geek Squad in the past but found them (Geek Squad) to be time consuming (30 minutes) just to set up a service call; With CompuSmile (Scott) I sent an email with my issues and immediately he responded with date/time for service visit on Saturday morning; he was professional; consciencious; timely and knowledgeable. Resolved all issues and general review of systems/security, etc. Much easier to deal with from an administrative perspective than Geek Squad; price was reasonable; will utilize CompuSmile again in the future. Overall a very positive experience.
Description of Work: Various clean up and services on two laptops; fixed backup; resolved security settings issues; printer error resolved; misc updates to operating system, etc.

Scott came out and spent two hours working on my computer. He found that my video card was not working properly and I had some old software that was causing problems. He replaced the sound card and deleted the bad software. I was also having problems using an external hard drive. Once he fixed the first problems the external hard drive problem went away.
Description of Work: I was having random problems with my computer that I was not able to diagnose or fix.

Scott is excellent. I have recommended him to many people and have received positive feedback from them on his work. He is knowledgeable, personable and excellent at troubleshooting. His rates are fair and reasonable. He gets right to work and stays focused.
Description of Work: Scott has repaired and or updated my software/computer several times in the last five years. He helped me get rid of a particularly nasty and tenacious virus. Scott is very knowledgeable and professional. He was on time and went right to work installing the memory card, explaining everything to me as he worked. In addition, he deleted/disabled a number of unused, unnecessary applications, making sure I understood exactly what he was doing. He was very patient and answered all of my questions. As a result of his work, I feel like I have a brand new computer-blazing fast! Thank you, Scott!
Description of Work: My computer was VERY slow, in spite of having a "high speed" internet connection. I called Scott at CompuSmile. He was able to "troubleshoot" with me over the phone and identify my problem. He also got the correct serial number for the specific memory card I would need, and ordered it for me. We set up an appointment for him to come and install the new memory card the following week.

My computer was unable to connect to the internet. After trllying to get tech help from AOL and being completely irritated, I decided to bite the bullet and locate a service that would fix the problem with my six year old computer. I phoned two companies that had A ratings on Abbey's list and chose CompuSmile because they could come quickly and do the maintaince in my home. In less that a week, Scott was at my front door to repair my computer. Scott had worked about three hours and I asked him how much longer he anticipated it would take.. He said not to worry about it that he wanted to finish the tasks he had been asked to do. He said that before he left we could reach an aggrement on the price. He was very understanding about realizing I couldn't afford to pay him his hourly rate if he stayed for six hours. I might as well purchased a new computer. He ended up being at my house for 7 or 8 hours and we came to a mutual agreement about the cost. He also left his card and said to call him or e-mail him if I had any questions after he left.
Description of Work: Sott did a maintaince on my desktop computer, my daughter's lap top, connected me to another modem and helped all systems operated smoothly.

Scott admitted that his drive to fix it overcame him had basically charged me for 1-1/2 hours. While waiting he also fixed thiings on our outher computer. The new hard drive is up and running and awesome. Furthermore Scott later referred me to a free spyware removal software which fixed some long time problems on my computer free of charge. I'm very grateful for that service.
Description of Work: Scott came to install a new larger hard drive in the kids computer and would hopefully mirror the old hard drive into the new so that programs would not have to be re-installed. The old hard drive was so "gummed up" that we had to start from scratch. Something that should have taken a hour turned out to be four.

They installed new computer and set up and it went pretty well. He was able to save me money on spy ware protection, cost of computer and INTERNET access. The cost of the printer as well. He was able to give me an overall good deal on the whole system and software.
Description of Work: He took a look at my system and said you needed an upgrade to my computer. He made 2 visits. First visit was $122.00 and 2nd visit was $269.00 for total of $391.00.

He was at our house for three hours cleaning up our computer. He got some of the features going. He is very professional. He explained things in language that everyone could understand. He let us know when he would be here and it seemed he knew what he was doing. We didn't need to supervise him.

The service was excellent. Scott discovered that the broadband provider was not providing the speed for which I had been paying for over a year, and upon contacting the company, he was told that the speed for which I was being billed was not even available in my area. I received a credit back to the date of the start of the broadband service, and a reduced ongoing monthly fee; in addition the provider gave a reduction in monthly home and cell phone bills because my broadband service should have been basic all along. Total of all savings combined was more than what I paid for Compusmile's service! I will use Compusmile for any future computer help I might need and will recommend the company to everyone I know who needs help with their computer.
Description of Work: Set-up of my new computer; transfer of info from old hard drive to new computer; review of broadband connection; install of fax function on my 4-in-1 printer.

First of all, Scott called me back after I had contacted him through Angie's List within about 1 hour. Scott quoted us a price for the work we wanted, then called us back to say that if we waited a few more days he could order the parts we needed at a cheaper cost! (Saving us about $80) We waited approximately a week, Scott called when the parts came in and came over the very next day to do the upgrade. The actual work took about an hour, including the installation of the RAM, CD/DVD burner, and running diagnostics and clean up files. Scott worked very efficiently and thoroughly, checking the systems when he finished to make sure they were working correctly before he left. He made sure I understood exactly what he was doing in language I could understand. I appreciated (and took him up on his offer) to recycle non-working printers and monitors we had around the house. Saved us a trip. The next time we have computer issues or decide to set up a new computer, I will not hesitate to contact Compusmile.
Description of Work: We were looking for a relatively inexpensive way to upgrade our main home computer and make it run faster and work better. It is a Dell Desktop about 8 years old. After discussing what we wanted with Scott, we decided to have him add RAM and a CD/DVD burner. He also "cleaned up" our computer files to maximize its efficiency. Scott even offered to take unused/non-working printers and monitors to recycle!

When I phoned Scott, he was very polite and professional. We discussed the problems that my computer was exhibiting; he asked technical questions (in lay-man's terms) and performed diagnostics to determine status of my 6 year-old hard drive. He gave me estimates of "fix or replace" and was HONEST to advise that replacing the computer could be the better choice for my money. He then assisted with the on-line purchase of an economical DELL computer that specifically fit my needs (I bought the "tower only" because my Monitor and other components were still working fine). Scott was compassionate when I was upset about the possibility of losing my files and data. He graciously provided his expertise over the phone (because I was not available for a home visit). I've now scheduled an appointment with him to come to my home to "recover" data from the failed hard drive. His visit is estimated at $88.00. He is easy to talk to, very knowledgeable, and I highly recommend him. He DID put a "Compu-Smile" on my face after resolving my Computer issues!
Description of Work: I was experiencing computer "boot failure" and Scott performed diagnostics to determine status of the computer's "hard drive."

Description of Work: Replaced a hard drive and transferred data from old computer to new disk. Set up security protected wireless system. Diagnosed laptop keyboard problem and added additional memory. Reconfigured and setup new wireless router. Reconfigured and setup the laptop for use with the wireless network. Successfully diagnosed and removed a highly damaging virus from the desktop computer. In addition, furnished advice on the phone about connection problem and didn't even charge. This is a top notch operation.

He was very patient and I couldn't have been more pleased with the work he did the price was also very reasonable as well. He was very helpful and really took a lot of time with me. He had a very easy going and cheerful personality.
Description of Work: COMPUSMILE LLC came to my house and cleared my computer of viruses and gave my computer some tuneup work. He helped me to reinstall a virus blocker program and unjammed my printer as well.

The appointment was made for exactly when I wanted it and he was able to come earlier than the appointed time. He was finished repairing my desktop and laptop wireless connection in under an hour.
Description of Work: Had I any level of computer skills other than turning it on and using it, I probably could have done this myself. However, this young man was so prompt, courteous and helpful that will never consider trying to fix a computer again. He even did more than I asked and what he did will save me some time and frustration. I chose him based on the Angie's List reports posted by others and they were right.

They arrive promptly (even a few minute early) for the job. The technician did not waste any time getting right to work. He explained our options and made it easy to understand what would be necessary to fix the problem. He did have to take the computer to his shop to complete the repairs. He had to reinstall the entire system, as well as installed some Spyware and additional software to prevent the problem from reoccurring in the future. The price was very reasonable and the turnaround time was very quick. I would definitely recommend them to others.
Description of Work: They repaired my computer after it was recently affected by a strong virus.

Scott was extremely responsive and knowledgeable. He spent about two hours with me. Previously he and I exchanged some emails in order to assist me fixing an immediate emergency with a computer. I would use him again in a heartbeat and have recommended him to friends.
Description of Work: Installed DSL on a very old computer without the right connections. Cleaned up the computer software and installed better filters, uninstalling ineffective versions. Generally helped straighten up a computer that had been piecemealed together. It works great now. The work was scheduled a week out but that was only to accommodate my schedule. He would have come next day otherwise.
