He came out to my house and he was very good. I have spent a total of around $300. I think he was a little overpriced but otherwise he was very good. I may not use him again because he was overpriced.

We could not have been happier with the service we experienced from Scott. We got more than we expected for less than we expected. PLUS, Scott has since always been available to help with goofy glitches that we get ourselves into, plus answer stupid questions that he invariably is able to help resolve over the phone, for no charge. Love him and love his services.
Description of Work: Scott was and is fabulous. We called him to upgrade our old computer, and by the time he was done he had helped us order a new computer for less than it would have cost us to do the upgrade. When the new computer arrived, he installed it for us, plus he upgrated our ancient laptop and installed a router, all while accommodating our crazy schedules.

Description of Work: I left a message asking Scott to call me, and he got back to me quickly. I described the problems we were having with two of our laptops. He listened carefully and repeated the info back to me to make sure he fully understood what the problems were. He explained that what it would most likely cost as much to fix the problems as it would to simply replace the laptops. I had a feeling this was the case, but wanted an expert opinion on it. I really appreciated the fact that Scott was honest and did not try to set up a visit to diagnose the problems and try to fix them... I think someone less reputable might have tried to exploit my situation to make a little money.

It was great! My mom is 78 and uses her computer quite a bit at home and at her church. Unfortunately the one at home has been down for the past couple of months. Then Sunday, Scott came over and solved all of the problems and then some! My mom believes he is a wizard and appreciated his patience and how things were explained. She actually listend to him and deleted the rest of her 'junk" emails. He worked on the computer for three hours. I will definitely use his services again perhaps for training for my mom and some help I need with my Mac.
Description of Work: Scott figured out the problem was with a lose piece of hardware, he fixed the printer, updated software, added RAM, confirmed old virus software not in use and added free virus software,

My experience was excellent. I am totally pleased.
Description of Work: I am 100% satisfied with the service Scott provided. It has been a long time since I have received such a good value for the money spent. Scott took care of everything. He spent 3.5 hours in my home and "fixed" everything from my old, slow (9 years old) Compaq pc, my wife's ipad and my new laptop. Call Scott; make an appointment; and let him do his thing. He will show you everything you need to know and skip the nonessentials. Spare yourself the time, frustrations and aggravation ... call Scott.

Over the last 5 years, Scott has repaired my desktop computers and my wife's laptops several times. From setting them up after purchase to repairing them when needed, hre has always been there professionally and promptly. In addition, he's been there to answer questions via e-mail and telecon.

Scott and I communicated by email and phone regarding my plans to replace my CPU and to purchase a laptop computer. On his first visit to the house, he recalled all the specifications we had discussed previously and set to work walking me through the options for purchasing on the Dell website. This took about an hour. The next day I followed his recommendations to the letter and ordered the computers. Compared to the systems I had initially put together on my own, Scott's configurations saved me several hundred dollars. After the computers were delivered, Scott returned to help set them up and install a wireless router. He talked me through everything he was doing and explained it all very clearly. He re-installed some of my old software and also installed several freeware programs for things like remote access to my PC and another to replace my old Photoshop software. This took about 2 1/2 hours and it was well worth the money. It would have taken me a couple of days (and some anguish) to accomplish what he did in that afternoon plus I probably would have purchased some unnecessary software. I couldn't be happier with my new computers and I have already recommended Scott to friends. His work is excellent and he might even save you some money.

Scott was able to promptly accommodae my needs during a busy holiday season. He carefully and patiently explained the issues concerning my computer in a clear and concise manner. Mr. Quinby arrived on time and diagnosed the problem with the laptop. While connecting the desktop computer to the network, noted that we had the opportunity to upgrade the wireless transmitter (seven years old). He reset network, fine-tuned the desktop (deleted programs we no longer used and upgraded the version of others that we use) so that it runs faster. He also diagnosed the problem with the monitor as well. Finally tried to setup the DirecTV Cinemaplus service and gave us the missing part and instructions to do it ourselves. He was very courteous and professional. His rate was very reasonable, considering that the new wireless transmitter was included in the final bill.
Description of Work: Diagnosed problems with a laptop, a monitor and with a DirecTV network connection, re-set the home network, and wirelessly connected a desktop to the network.

I found Scott on Angie's List and was impressed with all of the great comments about his business. I gave him a call and left a message. He call me the next day and set up an appointment to come within 3 days (week before Christmas!). He then called me back the next day (Sat), told me he could come that day and then came within an hour. He was professional at all times and did an excellent job fixing the computer. I that was so impressed with his services that I am calling him today (Feb) to handle a problem with our monitor. My system is 8-9 years old. I would recommend using CompuSmile if you are having problems with your computer!
Description of Work: My computer stopped working and I thought I had a virus and would have to get a new system! I took the chance that maybe someone could fix it. I called Scott and he coached me through a few quick fixes that had not worked over the phone. He came to the house and analyzed the computer system to find out what was going on. He cleaned the system up with a clean-up program that he downloaded from a free site so I could use it. He added more memory and "tweeked" a few more things on the computer. I worked great after his service of my computer!!! Thank you Scott!!

My business computer decided to go kaput on the first day of "Snowpocalypse" in St Louis. I called all over town. Every business, it seemed, was closed due to the pending blizzard (which is totally understandable). Scott with CompuSmile responded first of any business. Actually, 30 hours later, I'm still waiting to hear from anyone else. By the time we talked, I had scoured Google and strung enough "mini fixes" together to at least pull data from my crashed hard drive. With the weather still working against us and a critical "I must fix this before my flight tomorrow morning!" deadline, Scott offered great suggestions and insight on where best to focus my efforts -- things I could do myself that may completely alleviate the immediate need for a new hard drive. I was totally frazzled, and Scott's reassuring calmness and wisdom truly pulled me through a tough predicament and saved me money I otherwise would of spent purchasing a new hard drive. Without a doubt, I'll take all my computer repairs to Scott. I very highly recommend CompuSmile.

Great. I had used Scott a few years ago when my computer have a problem with the CD drive. When he came over then it was very apparent he knew his stuff. In addition, he's a very nice guy and doesn't talk down to you even though, in my case, I have no idea how he fixes the problems. This time, Scott came over and backed up all my data. He wasn't sure due to the age of my computer that it could be fixed. After that, he did get the computer started and it runs fine now. He also took care of the e-mail problem and what he charged, I feel is more than fair. The next day my e-mail problem occurred again. I called Scott and on the phone he walked me through correcting the problem. He took some time doing this and never asked me to pay him any additional money. He's a real class act.

I called Scott, He tried to fix the problem over the phone and when that didn't work he came to my house. He called when he was on the way. After he arrived, he fixed my computer and as he was working on it, he explained what he was doing. Best of all, he told me I didn't need to pay AOL money every month. You can get their service for free. Of course AOL never told me this. I would use Scott for any future problems and reccomend him to friends. Thanks

Description of Work: Scott arrived on time and got right to work. He deduced the problem with my computer (video card), replaced the part and explained how and why it had failed. Actually, he encouraged my presence while he was working and answered all my questions succinctly and in layman's terms. He also cleaned up and updated some programs on my computer and provided a flash drive for back-up. The next day, through no fault of his, I had an additional problem. He talked me through it on the phone. I don't wish to have any further problems with my computer, but if/when I do, I know who to call. I recommend him whole-heartedly.

Our communications began with emails. Scott responded quickly and gave general information about buy vs. repair. I decided to buy a new one and did so. Scott arrived on a Saturday morning on time, did his work in a professional manner and packed up my old computer to be recyled to a charity. The whole process took about an hour and a half. I would recommend Scott for your computer needs. Convenient, professional, reasonably priced.
Description of Work: Advised on purchase of new computer vs. repair of existing one. After choosing a new one, Scott came to my home and set up the new one by transferring files and programs.

Went great. Scott was prompt and professional. I'll definitely call him again in the future for computer issues.
Description of Work: Have a Dell desktop that wouldn't turn on. He worked on it and determined that the on/off button was actually broken inside and the only way to repair it was to replace the front cover since it's all built together. The other option was to leave that piece of the cover off - we did that.

Scott is the GO-TO computer man! He expertly performed the work on the laptop and answered questions with courtesy and professionalism. Scott returned to adjust the computer without additional charge and the laptop runs fine. Overall, it was a very good experience. I felt that I could trust the Tech and he was not out for the money. I highly recommend him to anyone that has computer problems or just need advice. Thank you Angie's List.
Description of Work: There was a box that appeared on my desktop each time I turned on my computer. I had no knowledge of what it was or how to get rid of it. I feared it was a virus. The Tech explained what it was and got rid of it. The technician provided suggestions even prior to the visit, via telephone of what he thought the problem was. I was very impressed with his willingness to do this. He cleaned up old, unneeded things on both my desktop and laptop. He provided valuable information aside from the problem. I commend him for his professionalism, patience, knowledge and the care he showed for my concerns and offered help in any way in the future.

Overall experience communicating with Scott was great. Couldn't have been better.
Description of Work: I sent Scott an email one evening and first thing the next morning I had a response. We quickly set up an appointment via email. However, I ended up canceling because I fixed my printer problems myself. Scott was extremely professional. Mr. Quinby, President of the Company, made an appointment for 10:A.M.. He called me around 09:00 to tell me he was on his way. He was punctural. He analyzed the problems I was having and installed the printer. He them took care of the security error message by shutting down my AOL connection and going on the Internet Explorer to download the correction the company provided. He then reestablished all connections. While working these issures he cleared up some other problems that I was having with my Computer. He was very professional and worked quickley, he completed all work within an hour.l
Description of Work: I was getting a security error message everytime I booted the computer. Also, I could not install the new printer I purchased. A third problem was related to a U3 Flash Drive.

I know how clueless I am when I bring my car in for repairs and the mechanics' jargon means nothing to me. With that in mind, I strive to avoid that same issue with my own clients. If I start explaining something and I see that "deer in the headlights" look in response, then I know I need to take a step back and explain things in a different, simpler way. If my clients don't understand me, then it's MY fault for not communicating properly, as it's MY job to explain things in terms they can understand. For some clients, I can make a reference to their "wireless router", and they'll know what I'm talking about. For others, I might have to use a phrase like, "that black-and-blue box with antennae that says 'Linksys' on it". I'm glad I was able to succeed in my goal of clear communication with this member, and I thank her for her kind words and positive review!

Scott picked up and dropped off my computer at my place of work during lunch. He attempted to get the computer to reboot but was unable to do so. I also gave him an old external hard drive to use to store data files if he was unable to get the computer to boot up. It turns out the external hard drive case was broken, and Scott replaced the case free of charge with another he had on hand. He determined the internal hard drive on my computer was dying, and managed to transfer all of my data files to the external drive. While I was disappointed that he could not get the pc to work I do appreciate the work he did to attempt to do so. I should mention that he only charged me for a couple of hours of labor. I suspect others might have spent a lot more time and money with the same results. I had inidcated to him that since it was a 5 year old computer, that I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars to try to get it up and running. Overall I was very pleased with the job he did. I'm glad you appreciated that I was able to retrieve the data from the hard drive, which is almost always the highest concern of my clients. I wish I could have gotten the computer back up and running, too, but unfortunately there's nothing I or anyone else can do with a failing hard drive besides replace it outright and reinstall all the software. When it's a 5-yr-old computer such as yours, it's rarely cost-effective to fix it in such a fashion, so I usually advise to purchase a new computer, which I'm glad you very wisely did. I emailed Scott and within 18 hours he had emailed me back. I told him I had been having problems with my computer freezing and not responding. He came to my house the next evening and looked at my computer. He told me my hard drive had failed. He told me what I would need to do to back up my computer, and then what I would need to do in order to get a replacement. The process of getting the replacement from HP was made MUCH easier with Scott's help. I have contacted Scott and plan to have him return when the replacement hard drive arrives. Scott is punctual, flexible, honest, and extremely knowledgeable.
