Scott showed up the very next day, pulled the power supply and installed a new one - checked computer, ran some diagnostics - got it running better then it did before the problem. Very happy with outcome and service.

My computer was not working right, so I found Compusmile on Angie's list and sent email.They returned email later that evening and set appointment to come fix the computer.They were very confident, that the problem with my computer could be fixed!The man arrived on time, went to work on the computer and a little over an hour later, my computer was back in business!I am so happy with the service, the customer service, and the professionalism!Will use Compusmile again and also recommend this computer repair service!

Scott is very considerate. For example, our appointment was for 10 AM and he called about 9:45 to say he was running late. He arrived at 10:20. I am so impressed by his professionalism, computer knowledge and thoroughness. It was a pleasure dealing with Scott. I definately recommend him, especially for computer illiterates like me!
Description of Work: Scott worked on three computers for us, one bought in 2001. It seems that whenever a computer was running too slow and had lots of "stuff" on it, we got a new one. In an effort to be thorough, I saved files, folders and pictures in different locations. Then when I transferred from the old computer to the new one, I would save everything again, so that some pictures were saved 4 to 6 times. What a mess! Scott was here almost all day and worked diligently without a break. He would move from computer to computer, while one was downloading, he was working on another. He didn't waste a minute. He fixed everything: connected the laptop to the printer somehow; installed new software; organized files, folders and pictures; got everything working like it should; and explained it all to us in "non"computer language that we could easily understand before cleaning up and leaving.

I had rescued a friend's unused HP notebook that had been sitting unused in the closet for more than 4 years. It ran Vista 6.0 and , I later learned, did not have any of the 3 service packs installed. When i powered up the unit and connected it to the internet, the laptop began to automatically try to update Vista as well as all the other installed program drivers. To make a long story short, I spent innumerable hours deleting and reinstalling all sorts of programs and finally could only use the computer in safe mode. Windows online help brought me close, but my friend did not know where her recovery disks were, and I was stuck. I looked on Angie's List, and Scott had great reviews. I emailed him asking if he could help me recreate a Vista boot disk. He did me one better. He researched a way to find the recovery partition on the hard drive that already contained the recovery file, that could be used to return the computer to its original state. I saved all my friend's pictures of her kids that her little girl had saved in the memory. And now the computer works great, and I'm installing the service packs as I write this. Great job! Great service! Great help! Earned my business for life!

He is a fabulous executive. I have used him before. I was very pleased with him. He was timely and he was very meticulous. He was very patient. He really stayed until he found out what the problem was. I would highly recommend him. He knew how frustrated I was. He came out the next day to make sure that everything was fixed. I would call him back again if I needed. I know that such kind of services are experience, but he was here quite a while. I thought the price was okay.
Description of Work: We used CompuSmile, LLC to service the computer as it was down. He really had to go in and do some configuration. I have a laptop too, so he was able to connect the laptop to the printer to print wirelessly.

Very well as usual. Scott spent a significant amount of time trying to fix the problem, and when he determined it was a hardware problem and still under warranty, he coordinated the service ticket with the manufacturer. Also, he backed up all my data that was on the hard drive, and returned to my house and copied all the data on our other computer. He only charged us for one hour of work, although he couldn't have possibly done all the work he did in only one hour. We have used Scott exclusively for our computer issues for the last few years. He is consistently reasonable, competent and reliable. Thanks again Scott!
Description of Work: Had a 6 month old laptop fail to boot up. "Blue screen of death" with various fault warnings. Called Scott from Compusmile and he picked up the computer, analyzed the problem and determined it was a hardware problem and could be serviced under the warranty.

He arrived at 10:15am and finished at 2:30pm. He started with the new Pc and multitasked among the three. He did not stop for lunch. When I had a problem after he left, he immediately returned my call.
Description of Work: Scott set up my new desktop and transfered all the files. He set up my wireless printer. He installed icloud on my pc and synced it with my MarAir book and my Ipad. He fixed file sharing between my MacAir and my PC. All of my pictures, mail, video, and music is on all three. He took all my old electronics to recycle.

A few days after the repair, a new problem arose: hyperlinks in emails were disabled. I contacted Scott, he did another remote hook-up and quickly fixed this. Scott is very personable and very knowledgeable.

He arrived in approximately an hour after being contacted. He was knowledgable and personable. He couldn't have been more professional. He was willing to do whatever was asked of him. He was much better than " The Geek Squad". He did a nice clean job; there was no way to even know that he had been here.
Description of Work: Scott ran diagnostics on our "old" computer, attempted to resolve the issues, but they couldn't be remedied. He sat down with us to help us to find a new computer that would satisfy our needs. Tweaked some things on our other computer. He even took the "old" CPU to be recycled for charity.

Scott came out the next day and was even a little early but patiently waited for me to arrive home. He discovered my computer had been hit with a virus, cleaned that up. It took a little longer than expected but I was not charged more and the original estimate. Very polite

Scott was very prompt. He didn't hesitate when I explained what I needed, confirming how frustrating it can be to do some of the simplest things on the computer. He was very efficient, taking about 2 hours to do what would have taken me days or weeks to figure out. I was left looking for additional things to have him work on!
Description of Work: Scott converted and migrated several files from an old computer with a bad hard drive to a new compouter, including an old MS Money file into a new version of Quicken, as well as capturing all my old Outlook contacts from the bad drive. He also converted and migrated a large Quicken Essentials file from a Mac to the new Quicken version on the PC. Additionally, he set up a back up routine on the new computer and gathered up all the old hardward, peripherals, and wires and took it all away for recycling. Love that!

WOW! After reading some of the reviews, I called Scott re: a list of computer issues that were bringing my computer to a grinding halt. He called me back within 90 minutes, and proceeded to ask me lots of questions about the problems, gathering details, etc. After chatting for 10-15 minutes, he told me he thought from talking to me that I was capable of fixing it myself, as it was going to require restoring to the "factory default" & reloading my files/programs. He said he'd be happy to come do it for me, but thought I could do it myself. He gave me the basic instructions & told me to please call him if I got stuck in the middle of it or had any issues. Well, I went & got a big enough backup, then hesitated to "pull the trigger" for a couple of weeks. Finally did it this week - and voila!! Everything is back to normal, and working perfectly!! He was friendly, courteous & professional - and I'm still in shock that he reommended I try it myself when he could have had a job out of it. I will call him & recommend him in an instant. Since I originally did my research, I now see that he has done the same for others - what a professional!
Description of Work: Brought my dying computer back to life!! My computer was not indexing, attaching files, etc.- he walked me through fixing it - for free!

Scott did a great job and always does. He is always available to answer questions online or on the phone, and is extremely fair.
Description of Work: I called Scott when my computer would not connect to the internet. Scott has helped us with our computers on many occasions and always does a wonderful job. After spending more than four hours at my house trying to repair my computer system, Scott determined that my modem and router needed to be replaced. I was also interested in getting a new computer, so Scott advised me on what type of computer to buy and even looked through the ads with me for a good value. (He also warned me to "just say no" to up-selling sales tactics!) A few days later, after I purchased a computer, Scott returned to my house with a new combination modem and router. He then spent another four hours working on setting up the new computer and the internet connection, as well as transferring information from the old computer to the new one. He then took the computer and the hard drives to his house where he continued working on the transfers over the holidays. He called me when the job was finished, then delivered the computer to my house and showed me how to access its features. As indicated, Scott spent multiple hours working on my computer system and charged me very little compared to the amount of work involved. In the course of things, he also fixed a telephone land line connection with which I was having difficulty!

Did everything he could Very pleased with his help. Only issue was he was a day late from original appointment. But very good in calling and explaining schedule problems.
Description of Work: Laptop would not start. Ran various diagnostics and finally factory restore. After going through these procedures, still not working so called Dell since still under warranty. he explained all procedures performed and scheduled a technician to meet my son at his college to do the warranty repairs

Scott was able to schedule me in within two days of my contacting him. He arrived on time. It took longer than I thought it might, but frankly, I am so happy with the quality of his service that my concept of how much time it might take is moot. It got done. I had one other issue which I contacted him about later in the day, and he then walked me through it over the phone, and it was resolved. I would highly recommend Scott Quinby to anyone with computer or networking issues (even those those that involve entertainment systems).
Description of Work: I recently dropped cable TV for digital antenna service, but opted to get Tivo in order to be able to record shows for viewing on my timetable. I had network/connectivity issues -- was unable to get Tivo to connect to my network. A router I purchased specifically to handle the networking in my home (for all devices, including TVs and laptop) was not functioning. In addition to this, I had some issues with my Mac computer/iPhone/iPad in terms of each of them talking to each other through the cloud. Scott approached all my issues with a very high level of understanding and was able to methodically get through all the issues until they were resolved. My Tivo works, my other TVs (including PS3, Wii, Netflix and Huluplus accounts) are all functioning as they should be, and my "devices" are, as well. I am thrilled with the outcome of this experience.

Scott arrived on time with everything he needed to get the job done. As the work was performed, he explained what was being done and the purpose for doing it. Having someone come to my house as opposed to taking the laptop to a repair shop was a big plus for me. Especially since I needed my wireless router to be password protected. In addition to being convenient, it was nice to be able to watch as the work was performed and having the opportunity to ask questions along the way. Scott was very patient with all of my questions and never made me feel like I was bothering him. He knows his field of expertise well and it shows. It took him a little over two hours to complete everything that needed to be done. I'm very happy to have a computer that runs like new again. As Scott headed out the door, he mentioned that he's only a phone call away if there are any questions. I can't say enough good things about my experience with CompuSmile. I will definitely call on him again when my computer decides to take a vacation and will recommend him to friends and family as well. Thanks, Scott!
Description of Work: Scott installed additional RAM, downloaded updated versions of Adobe and Java, removed old software that was no longer being used, installed a program that shows when the computer has completed start-up and is ready to go, cleaned up and defragmented the hard drive, and password protected my wireless router.

Scott Quimby (owner) responded quickly to my email and offered me the opportunity to drop the laptop off anytime that evening or I could setup an appointment for him to come by my house. I think the charge for him to come by was $88 but it might have been $80. That did not matter because when I called him the next morning and went over the problems with the laptop he said the most likely cause was the small amount of RAM (521MB) on that model and I could increase that very inexpensively. He gave me a website that has software that will check you memory and recommend what type to buy. I was able to quadruple the size to 2 GB for $30 including shipping. Scott also gave me instructions on what needed to be done to install the cards. The site had very good instructions as well. The parts arrived in 3 days and were installed in less than 10 minutes. No software changes needed to be mad either. I turned it on. It asked if new memory was available. I said yes and the machine started up in half the time it took previously. I will probably get 2 more years out of the laptop for almost no money. I want to thank Scott for giving me the time when he would make nothing out of the deal. We had this laptop in the shop 6 months ago and spent $70 dollars to clean it and try to speed it up and that did very little. Now it is as fast as a new machine. I recommend Compusmile, LLC and Scott Quimby very highly and will use him for any computer needs in the future.

The easy and profitable thing for him to do would have just been to charge me to rebuild my computer even though he knew it wasn't the cost effective thing to do. Instead, he was honest with me and advised me to just get a new computer. This is my second go around with Scott, and both times he has put integrity and honesty above short term profit. That is a rare quality these days, and businesses like his need to be supported. If you have any computer issues that need professional attention, USE THIS GUY!
Description of Work: I have an aging PC that I was considering getting overhauled instead of buying a new one in order to save some money. Scott from Compusmile had done some work for me a few years ago and I had a good experience with him. I inquired as to the practicality of a n overhaul, and Scott recommended against it.

Scott is the consumate computer professional. He's an excellent communicator and is able to help the customer understand their computer problems and how he is going to fix them. He suspected that the router was bad, but tried to save us the expense of a new router by thoroughly checking its performance. We did need a new router. He also showed me how to check the internet speed on my Dell to make sure the speed problem was not due to my carrier. He also cleaned up my hard disk and helped my husband and me update some programs on our computers and sync them to our phones. All our electronic complaints were checked and corrected along with instruction on how to keep them from happening again.
Description of Work: WiFi connection wasn't working Internet was slow

Scott was great. He showed up on time and methodically worked through a number of issues we where having. He worked through all of the problems on both of our laptops until he was able to get each of them to connect to the wireless network. And he was very accommodating of our dog's curiosity. After he was done fixing our network, he also gave us some great free advice for buying our next laptop. We will definitely use him again the next time we have a problem with our computer..
Description of Work: We had internet service added to our house. However, when we tried to install our wireless router, neither of our computers would connect to the network. After hours of frustration trying to fix the problem ourselves, we call CompuSmile.

Scott was Absolutely Wonderful ! I emailed him and he responded quickly for a weekend and scheduled a time on Monday. He was on time, knowledgable and friendly. A power outage had thrown our wireless router into a bit of a fit. Scott not only fixed the problem...he carries wireless routers with him so I didn't have to go to the store and try to figure out what kind to purchase. He successfully got the router talking to all 3 of our computers and our wireless printer ! He was also able to reconfigure the slingbox my son has on one of our TV's so he can watch the Cardinal games out in San Diego. I have already referred him to some of my friends and I am sure we will be utilizing his expertise in the future. I would definately say you can confidently hire Scott knowing you will be in good hands !
Description of Work: Replaced a wireless router, found me a way to save $100 a year on my AOL account, got all 3 of our computers and our wireless printer to communicate with the new router and reconfigured the slingbox so it would also communicate with the router.

I had experienced a power outage about 2 weeks ago and could not get my wireless router to work. Even though I am technically challenged, Scott does not make me feel stupid. He helped me select and set up a new laptop in January 2011 so I knew I could count on him again. He responded to my call within 24 hours of leaving a voice mail message. He was able to come out the same day, which I really appreciated. He reset the router and made sure I knew how to do it if it ever happened again. He also checked and updated the spyware and made sure I knew how to do that as well. Scott knows his stuff and commuicates well. I hope I don't have to call him again, but I know I will.
