Description of Work: CompuSmile and Scott Quinby is everything the reviewers said about him and more. I had two computers down and a third one not even out of the box. He repaired the two and was kind enough to get my new one up and running for me. Scott explained everything as he went along. and if I was unsure about something, he made sure I understood. He is very knowledgeable, patient, and professional. I only wish everyone I had to do business with was as enjoyable to work with as Scott.

Description of Work: I called Scott in a panic as I encountered a virus the night before. I was afraid that it wiped clean my hard drive. When we spoke on the telephone the next day he told me not to panic, that he had seen this before, that he was sure all would be fine. He was calm which certainly helped me. He came out in a few hours, took my computer with him, and said he would work on it that night. Sure enough, he called a few hours later that he restored everything, said that the virus had just "hid" all of my programs and that nothing was lost. He brought it back the next day, on Saturday. Very quick service in my distress, he came out the same day and I had the computer back the following day at noon. Whew. I would highly recommend Scott/CompuSmile.

This is the kind of service call that gives me the most fulfillment. At my core, my main motivation is just to help people, and computers and technology are the vehicle through which I do it in my job. To hear a client's distress and panic over the phone, to be able to calm them down and reassure them that everything will be okay, and then to be able to deliver on that promise a mere few hours later... that's a great way to enjoy a rewarding day in my book. You told me other companies you'd talked to were alarmist, warning that you might be "lucky" to get *any* of your data back, as that only exacerbated your worries. That's not how to treat a client. You need to be honest with them, but you have to give them reason to be optimistic. With my 32 years of experience with computers, I'm confident enough in my skills that I can find that way to be optimistic. And I'm glad I could do that for you, and then prove my optimism was warranted. Thank you for being such a great client, and for giving me this opportunity to make you "CompuSmile." :) That's what makes my job so enjoyable and worthwhile.

Great experience!
Description of Work: Scott hooked up my wireless network and got everything working perfectly - - - my laptop, my printer, my I-Pad. Great experience. Scott has patience with someone who is not adept with how wireless technology works. He makes understanding easy and makes sure you know "how-to"make sure technology works for you - - - instead of being frustrating. I would recommend him without question to anyone who needs assistance with technology.

Description of Work: Mr. Quinby came out to our house and spent around 1 1/2 to 2 hours. In the end he did not fix anything. He told us that the hard drive was about to crash and we needed to get a new computer then spent time trying to tell us what kind of new computer. Part of the time he was here was my fiance's fault, trying to get Mr. Quinby to recall Turbo Lister on Ebay. However, in my opinion, Mr. Quinby should have done whatever diagnostic needed at the beginning and told us then and there that the computer was not repairable. I feel like I wasted $176.00 which i can ill afford

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I'm sorry to hear you were dissatisfied. However, my side of the story is much different from yours. Contrary to your report, the very first thing I did upon arriving was diagnose the computer, at which point I determined the hard drive was failing. I then immediately backed up its data to a flash drive. Combined, that amounted to one hour of my time--or $88--which is an exceptionally fair price, given that my competitors--such as the Geek Squad--routinely charge $100 for the data backup alone. Next, you requested that I attempt to restore the data from a backup of your eBay TurboLister program. I told you upfront that I wasn't optimistic about our chance for success, but that I was willing to try if you thought it was worth the time and cost. You and your fiancé together decided you wanted to proceed despite the risk. While waiting for the data recovery process to run, I discussed in-depth with you and your fiancé the options for an economical new computer. In the end, I armed you with all the information you needed to make an informed, educated purchase. For that service alone I regularly charge a $50 flat rate, and my clients are happy to pay it because of the money they save by not paying for a more expensive computer than they need. At that point, your bill was a very fair $138. Once the data recovery process was complete, I did everything I could to get your eBay data back in place, but--as I'd warned you from the get-go--it was beyond what I or any other technician could have salvaged. That effort amounted to a full 1.75 hours, but because I felt sympathy for your situation, and even though I had informed you of the low chance for success ahead of time, I charged you for only 1 hour, at a savings of $66 to you. Your total cost was $176, which any other professional in my field would recognize is an absolute bargain for the service I provided you. Had you and your fiancé not requested the eBay TurboLister data recovery attempt nor requested assistance with the purchase of a new computer, the total price would have been a mere $88. At every point along the way, I kept you and your fiancé informed of your options, and at no time did I perform any action without your authorization. With that said, thank you once again for taking the time to submit your report. Even though I disagree with it, I respect your opinion, and I’m glad you shared it with rest of the Angie’s List community. Feedback such as yours--whether it’s positive or negative--is what makes this service work so well. If you still feel dissatisfied, please give me a call, and we can arrange for a refund.

Great service - that sums it up.
Description of Work: My computer had a serious virus and Scott from Compusmile was able to completely remove the virus. I have used his service a number of times and always find him to be very professional, friendly, very knowledgeable, able to explain what the problem is and how is plans to fix it in terms that a non computer geek can understand. His pricing is very fair. I recommend him very highly.

Description of Work: Scott was very prompt. He came on the dot at the time he had told me. He was very pleasant, got to work on my desktop (which had some major problems). He identified the problem, and fixed it. In addition he worked on my laptop and connected my network. I had some more PC problems the following day. I called Scott. He called back very promptly and advised me as to what to do. He also told me that if I cannot get it done, he would come of as a courtesy and diagnose the hard drive. As I was able to take care of the second problem myself, he did not need to come over. I will use him in the future if need be. I plan to recommend him.
