The project went great. They were very efficient, friendly and prompt. I couldn't have been more pleased with the service. They quality of work is excellent and the warranty they offer is great. One of the owners was in town from Ohio and he paid us a visit to see how the project was going.

It was great. They were on time just like they promised. They were careful to not make a mess and cleaned up beautifully. They were professional and knew what they were doing. Six months ago I had a minor problem with it and I called them and told them about the problem. They met me on my lunch hour and he was on time and he fixed the caulking and gave advice on keeping it clean. I was so impressed with the quick response and addressing the issue. They worked with me on getting it done quickly. I would recommend them big time.

The service was fantastic. They built a sun room that accommodated a very tricky roof line on the existing house. They were great to work with and very flexible. When we needed a minor adjustments after the work was done they were willing to fix with out additional charges. They were very professional and would recommend them to others.

Sales reps were friendly, courteous and knowledgeable about products and installation. Estimators were thorough with their measurements and determining exactly what was and was not needed to meet our needs. This company requests 50% down payment, but I believe that could have been negotiated. Installation was scheduled and started within ten days of signing the contract. Installers were friendly, courteous and very competent and got the work done quickly. Clean up was also thorough and complete. All work and material was warranteed. This company uses products manufactured at their factories so quality is controlled.

They out do their competitors. They installed new windows in our sun room in the past. I like their whole crew. They were very respectful of our property and knowledgable about what they were doing. Outside of the sun room they put all the other windows in our house. They did an excellent job. They were in and out. We have not had any problem with their work. They are very responsive and are a total package. I highly recommend them.

They did a door-to-door thing in our area and we were interested in doing sidings. They were not pushy or anything; they were very professional. The pricing was comparable. They were able to put up the windows in one day and the siding within four days. They cleaned up after themselves well. We have been happy with the product and their service.

They did a door to door thing, we wanted to do it, so, we went with them. They did an excellent job. They did everything at one time, have good quality, and we are happy with them. The guy that they sent out was very professional, he didn't pressure us, and he was very good. I am happy with the product. They put in the windows in one day and the siding in 4 days. They cleaned up after themselves. I told them I might add a porch on with them in the future.

I was very unhappy with them. They dropped a window from the top of a ladder onto my hardwood floors. It put three or four holes in the wood. They cut the wires to my alarm system. They were on their cell phones while working. It was not a good experience with them at all. After calling and writing a letter for them to reimburse me for the wires they cut, they gave me $120 for a bill that was over $600. I don't recommend them.

Champion Window did great. The service was good and they came out early. They put rugs down and were very clean. On the front entry door the wrong glass was installed but they ordered the new glass and are coming out to fix it so it is not a big deal. The price was high but I liked everything that came with it especially the lifetime warranty for the doors.

They did a fantastic job removing the old windows, installing the new ones and cleaning up. They worked fast and did an excellent job. With the siding they were very concerned with detail and did an excellent job. They went above and beyond the required contract work. There was one problem with siding our garage wall which was in bad shape to begin with and not straight or structurally sound. To the credit of the construction workers, Bill and John, pointed this out from the start. There was a disagreement about how to proceed, but in the end, Champion did more than the contract involved to make it right. This is why we went with Champion. They do it right and they stand behind their work. They did a sliding glass door for us a few years ago and did a great job. I got quite a few bids for the windows and siding and they weren't the cheapest or most expensive, but their quality and reputation sold us. We were very happy with the final product!
Description of Work: Champion replaced all the windows in our home (except 4 glass block windows) . They did the removal of the old aluminum window frames original to the house, replaced all the windows with energy-efficient argon gas filled windows with vinyl frames. There were 19 windows total including 4 large trapeziodal picture-windows. We had several windows replaced with double-hung windows and most with sliders either double or triple. They sided the entire house and did all the insulation board, trim work, gable vents, facia, and installed vinyl soffit.

Description of Work: I had Champion out for a bid on siding, windows and doors. The sales pitch took four and half hours and was the highest of my five bids. The bid was I felt very inflated it was 5000.00 over my highest bid. I also did not receive a true bid with description of what they were charging for I was given a piece of paper with just numbers on it for the time I spent with them I felt that a detailed bid was in order. I will not call Champion back out and I will not recommend them to my friends and family.

Our experience with Champion has been, to say the very least, disappointing. The sales experience was very good, but as soon as we started dealing with the project manager things started to go downhill. The lack of communication has been shocking. So many things could have been resolved with a simple phone call. Our start time of our screen room was to be 8-11 weeks from our deposit. No problem. Mid-May we were told by the "Project Manager" that we would get started in two weeks. Perfect, a bit early! Now, since he is the project manager we had to trust that he could correctly estimate a start time. Two weeks went by with no call. When we finally got an answer from the project manager he said we were waiting on the permit from the city. Again, more time passed with no communication. So I started investigating. I called the city & the permit had been applied for May 30th! I don't mind the delay if it was communicated. I do not at all care for dishonesty. A few days before our scheduled start date we noticed that the utility marking service hadn't been out. It is apparently the law in our area before a project begins and our utilities are buried & we know the electric is several feet from where the work would be. Shockingly the project manager made the comment "we will make sure it's ok". This was surprising as I'm quite certain the utility marking is no charge. After several phone calls we finally were told that the utility markers would be out prior to our job starting. The original estimate on the duration of this project was a week to 10 days. The work started June 13th, at the time of this writing, July 11th we are still not complete. Apparently they sent 2 men, without the team lead, to do a 3 man job. I do not feel that the two workers we have are incapable of completing the job, but there have been work stoppages because the guidance of a team lead was needed. It turns out that the team lead that would have been assigned to our project was out on Medical leave. I understand that these things happen. However, in true fashion of this "Project Manager" this was not communicated to us! I realize they are short handed & that is why our two guys are pulled from our job for hours at a time, further slowing this project. However, in the interest of full disclosure they should have advised us that the Team lead wasn't available & perhaps pushed our job back a week or two. No, of course that wouldn't be the ideal situation, but it would be better than wondering if we are getting what we paid for. The men working on our project do not have the guidance of their team lead. He only stops by for a few minutes each morning. This is not acceptable to us. When we expressed this concern to the Division manager we were told, it's not our concern!!! This is most definitely our concern as we are paying a premium for what is to be a quality job. It is very disappointing to learn that this is the attitude at the top of the local Champion office. July 1st, I took the time to meet with the "project manager" who stops by from time to time. When expressing my concern about the lack of a team lead, he did admit that the team lead was stopping by in the morning & spending the rest of his time at another job. I mentioned my displeasure at this & said our job should get equal time with the other project, why is our job less important? He said they were short handed & I said I do understand but it is his job as the project manager to manage this issue. I'm not sure what the answer is but maybe this whole thing would have been different had someone informed us up front and let us choose to start or delay the project based on the lack of a team lead. I also told him that there was such a lack of trust that going forward my husband or myself will be home at all times to see how it's going. His response was that's your choice, but I could tell he was irritated. This was confirmed because his next sentence was, loudly, CAN YOU BUILD THIS ROOM, CAN YOU? That was a nice touch. I again mentioned that my concern was the guys here were not benefiting from the experience & guidance of the team lead. He said it was fine. If something was wrong they could fix it later. I really do not feel that this is the answer! The way this entire project has been ‘managed’ is completely unacceptable. The sheer arrogance of these people is just amazing. It's a good thing that Champion has such a back log of work & I suppose that's why they feel that they can treat people with such disregard. As the project is not yet complete I will be sure to provide an update. However at this time, with the delays, lack of communication, laughable customer service & outright disrespect, I can safely say we will not be recommending Champion to our friends. I think it is also important to note that this attitude is clearly coming from the top, based on the Division Manager’s comments to my husband about this not being ‘our concern’. Amazing! We reached out to the Champion Corp office. They never responded.

Response from Champion Windows and Home Exteriors of St. Louis
I received a copy of the customer complaint from Angie’s List dated July 17, 2011. I am quite surprised because, to my knowledge, we addressed all of the customer’s concerns on July 14, 2011, and wrote up a customer service agreement listing 9 minor issues of concern. Per the customer’s schedule, we arranged to correct these 9 issues on July 29, 2011. We completed the work on that date to the customer’s satisfaction, and they paid Champion in full. The job was a routine installation requiring only two installers, however, we did have one of our more experienced installers stop by daily on his way to another job to help guide the newer crew. Also, our installation manager who runs all of our jobs did stop by daily to check the progress and guide as needed. Of course the job itself was the customer’s concern. My comment was in reference to how we schedule our employees. Knowing that they were disappointed with our service, and since it was certainly not our intent to upset them, I followed up with a personal letter of apology and sent them a $100 gift certificate to a restaurant in the St. Louis area.

Got a call the week before that the windows I had ordered were in (at least 1-2 weeks early!). Because of work, couldn't arrange installation until the following week. I was told it would take a day and a half. 2 Gentlemen came on time and went to work. About 4 hours later, 2 more men showed up...with my new picture window! They said since the forecast was for rain all the next day, they finished one job and then came to finish mine. All the gentleman worked hard and NONSTOP until everything was done. They removed all the old windows (good riddance) and cleaned up after themselves. They gave me suggestions on cleaning and a few other things that were pertinent to the new windows. A couple days later, I went in the basement to try my new basement hoppers (there had been the original hopper windows from the 50's) and found aproblem closing one. I called right a way. Unfortunately, it took a week to get an appointment. But they did come, early, and fixed the problem. I know they are not the cheapest place around to get windows but I do like the quality.

The salesman was somewhat obnoxious and he stayed for about three plus hours. They said that they can do the work. They did not do the paper work, and they just reported. I was not pleased with them. Estimator was prompt, was nice, a little sales-man-ish, but not as bad as I had expected, and not overbearingly pushy. Literature was nice. Was not forthcoming about lead abatement (house was built in 1919, by law they have to automatically treat the house as lead-contaminated. Wilke Window came right out up front and discussed Lead abatement, and their costs for doing so - but no one else did, including Champion), I had to ask about it and ask directly for the costs involved for Lead abatement. Estimate was promised next day via e-mail, and I was pushed somewhat hard to let the salesman "hand deliver" the estimate (something no one else offered, which I equated to a second sales contact and another opportunity to sell to me). I declined. Next day came - no estimate (note, both Window World and Castle Rock gave me an estimate right there in my home). I had to call and remind Champion 4 days later, and got the estimate 5 business days after first contact. As stated above, the estimate was EXCEEDINGLY expensive, and nearly twice what the next highest competitor wanted, for the same product. WHen I asked why, I have yet to get a reply. I have definately dealt with worse, so I can't say they are a 'D' or an 'F'. But I would not give them much more than a 'C' to be sure. They will not be getting my business or my money.
Description of Work: Short and simple: Quote for 11 vinyl replacement windows was over $7400, and that was with 50% off of labor (special). The actual total was a little north of $12,000. Yes. $12,000 - for 11 windows - standard 1920's vintage residential windows. No bay, nothing fancy. I bid the project out to 5 other contractors, and the next highest was maxed out - for the same product with low e glass and argon double-pane, i.e same windows, same installation, etc. - at $4200. Additionally, the estimator came to my house, measured all my windows (12 downstairs, with an additional 9 upstairs as an option), took account of them all, and then provided me an estimate (above) for only 11 downstairs. WHen I replied back to his e-mail seeking clarification on why only 11 were estimated, and why the estimate was so gosh darned high, I got no response. Essentially their bid for my lower floor windows (the "discounted" $7400) was still in excess of the maximum bid I got for the whole house (Castle Rock with their "best" window was $7300-ish for all 21 windows).

Our experience with Champion was great. We walked into the showroom just expecting to look, and wound up ordering that same day. Their glass is top notch and the demonstations they'll do for you will most likely convince you. Our living room windows were at least 20 years old and the patio door was a security joke, so we needed a solution. The price is steep, but they took care of everything, including adding additional trim around the patio door when a trainee cracked some of the drywall that was supposed to stay. Order time was about 6 weeks, so be prepared to wait. We feel much more secure, the opening/closing of the windows and door is now a breeze and they even threw in free glass cleaner. Also, they offered a lifetime replacement on the screen door to the patio (we have a young toddler) which made me feel a lot better about the decision. Great option, especially with the tax credits that are available now!

The workers were fantastic and it took them about 4 hours to complete the job. I was very satisfied with their work. They cleaned the mess, swept and vacuumed the house. I had only one problem with their responsiveness. I was promised by one of them that they would be installing the new windows in 8 weeks but didn't get back even after 10 weeks. They told me that it was delayed because I hadn't sent them a check. I had a receipt for the certified check I had sent and I gave him the lady's name who had signed for the check. After checking their records, they apologized and promised to be there in a day or two. I left a message on the office phone for the owner expressing my inconvenience. I was dissatisfied about the fact that no one had called me to tell me about the check complication.

We talked to a lot of window salesmen and the Champion guy was the best. He was prepared with a notebook full of references on their product. I checked out everything. I was able to find all but one of the magazine articles they cited and that one seems like an industry insider publication. They are very conscious of their Angie s list rating. Champion was in the middle price-wise of all the bids we received. We were impressed with the salesmen professionalism and that this company uses foam filled frames. One annoying thing about the sales process was all the little discounts. It was nice to see the price go down but it would be better not to mess with all this stuff. There were discounts for being on Angie s List and for putting a sign in our yard (I told them if they sucked I would take the sign down). I had a great deal of window anxiety and believed many urban legends about having windows installed. As it turned out none of the many window salesmen gave us any trouble about the odd sizes of our windows or only doing half the windows in our house. We had one issue that was resolved with a few phone calls. The notes from the measurement guy indicated the code required tempered safety glass in the wrong window. Fortunately, the two windows in question were the same size and easily switched (They lucked out. I would have put money on there being no two windows the same size in my home). The workmen were very professional in their work, but the older guy whined a lot! The clean-up went well, but they didn t do the stairs under dining room window. When I asked about this he was going to pick up the pieces. I said no, please vacuum and he said there was no outlet. I pointed it out to him and he was mumbling under his breath as he vacuumed the stairs (I have a toddler and this is an older home so I was worried about lead). He also whined as we sorted out the tempered glass issue. Everything else went so well I hesitate to mention this. It was sure annoying at the time. We are happy with the windows. It is too early to tell if we ll save money on heating, but the breeze that used to run through the older part of my home is gone. When we do the windows in the other half of our home we will definitely go with Champion.
