Handyman Connection of Chesterfield

My house is 18 yr old and the exterior trim around and above the garage door was completely rotten. It looked terrible. I had another company replace/repair it about 7-8 yrs ago so I couldn't believe that we were having this issue yet again. I called Handyman Connection and they sent James Marks to look at the job and provide an estimate. He arrived a couple of days after I called them. After he looked at the job and spoke with me, he sent the estimate in to the office and they forwarded it to me via email. I called Handyman Connection and told them I had some questions about the drawing I received and the materials that would be used before I could commit to a contract; so James came back to the house to explain everything to me in more detail. James warned me up front that more extensive work might have to be done which would increase the cost but that he wouldn't know that for sure until he began to dismantle the trim to see the extent of the rot damage. The root cause was that there was no drip ledge and James saw this right away. Once the job was underway and the trim was removed, he saw that one of the bulkheads underneath the trim was also rotten so he replaced that as well. The material of the new trim he used was not wood, but a pvc material. I had also asked for the top rail on the front porch bannister to be replaced. The other company had replaced it 7-8 yrs ago, but the guy used two pieces of wood which were now splitting apart and looked awful. Since they don't make wood pieces as long as what was needed, James built the top rail himself. It's very sturdy now and it looks perfect! He used a spacer to make sure the spindles were evenly spaced when he put them back. James made sure that the garage door would open and shut correctly at the end of his work day, which I thought was very considerate. At the end of the job, he made sure all the scrap wood was cut up small enough to fit in our trash cans and that the work site was clean. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the work James did on my house. It was 103-105 degrees all week and miserably, dangerously hot to be working outside. But he came prepared and put in a full day's work for 3 straight days. James told me that he takes pride in his work, and that is obvious from the finshed result. We would use Handyman Connection and especially James again in a heartbeat. I did not take a before photo, but I did take an after photo which I will gladly post if I can figure out how to do it.

He has done all sorts of work for me over the past six months. He is very good because he is professional and shows up on time. He points out things that need to be done and communicates issues that may not be foreseen.

They were really helpful, came on time, very efficient, and the price was right. I didn't think they were over priced.

Appointment was initialized by a groupon, and was kept promptly. Materials and process were explained and an estimate for further work was left.

Dos: do use this company. Don'ts: have none.

Could not have been any better. Pricing was fair, was able to do it immediately. He even went above and beyond what we had originally negotiated...it only took him another 10 minutes or so, but I really appreciate him doing it. He hauled everything off and swept the floor. Will definitely call him when I'm ready to continue on the project.

I thought I had the parts needed. He assessed this and came back the next day. It was a hard job--it took him at least 3 hours. Everything went well, except he forgot to put the caps on the place where the pipes come out of the wall. But he did give me a remedy for how to fix it.

I was preparing for unexpected overnight guests from out of town, and had closed the bedroom door as I was working in other areas of the house. When I went to re-enter the room, the door was jammed shut. I removed the door knob and tried to open it myself, but it wouldn't budge. The hinges were on the other side of the door, I was out of options and running out of time! When I called Handyman Connection, a live person answered the phone and was incredibly patient and understanding about my predicament. She put me on hold for a couple of minutes to contact her manager to see if someone could come out right away, reviewed their procedures with me and gave me a good heads-up on billing (by the hour vs. by the job, as it was a weekend and they were usually closed). She quickly and courteously took my information, and within a few minutes of hanging up with her, I received a call from Frank, who was going to do the repair. He was terrific!! Asked all the right questions, was very flexible, and very accommodating working in my repair into his full schedule for the day. He arrived before I thought he would (a good thing!), and promptly got to work. Frank was very thorough, and explored one option after another to try to get the door open. Finally, he ended up extracting the damaged lockset tiny-piece-by-tiny-piece through an access hole he drilled (easily patched, and doesn't show under the door hardware). None of my worst-case scenarios had to happen - he avoided having to remove the trim around the door (old house, it's messy and a pain) or kick the door in :-). Once he got all the pieces out, he explained that a sheared off lever on the spring latch had jammed in the door. There was no way I could have figured that one out, much less gone to the lengths he did to get the job done quickly and leaving as much intact as possible. He replaced the damage lockset with another one reclaimed from a door that I had in storage, and was done in just under two hours. It was quite a job, and I appreciated how understanding, fast and patient he was as he was working on it. I would hire Handyman Connection again with no hesitation - I have already started putting together a half-day list and a full-day list of projects that have needed doing for a while, and am looking forward to having them back in the couple of months. The phone staff (I think it was Tanya?! Can't recall her name) was great, so responsive, Frank was terrific, and I was extremely satisfied with his work. SO much better than I expected, from response time to price to the quality of the repair. Great job!! Thank you again - without you, I would have had overnight guests sleeping on the floor!

The handyman showed up promptly to give me an estimate. I received the bid the next day via mail; I called the main office to accept the bid and set up the appointment to complete the task. He again arrived promptly and did a nice job withe repairs. Overall, a very good experience.

Overall it went pretty well as the items seemed to be repaired to our satisfaction. The only thing that could have gone better is that when the slow draining bathroom sink was unclogged a decent amount of water was left in the cabinet under the sink. In that cabinet were several items that had some sentimental value that had to be thrown out because they became wet. I had intended to clean out that cabinet before the handyman did the work but he was able to fit us in a day early and did the repairs when I was at work. I thought the handyman was a nice guy and knew what he was doing. He was very efficient in assessing the problems. We also appreciated that he called to tell us he was on his way when coming to see our problems and to give us a proposal.

Call, made appointyment. They came on time to see what was needed to be done. We agreed on a time to have work completed. Did a great job.

Went Great! Service was quick and the service individual was very respectful and cordial. Even put on booties on his shoes to prevent dirt from going on our floors. Seldom see these on other contractors. Show's respect for the homeowners home. So far so good, no leaks. Very thorough in troubleshooting. I would use Handyman service for our future home repair/upgrade needs!

Mark Meyers purchased all the materials except the tile since we had to choose the design and color. He came on time when he said he would. He laid down coverings everywhere he walked on. He used our garage to cut the tile in, so dust wouldn't get into the house. The detail of his work was superb; he never had to recut or redo anything. How he covered the closet floors, I couldn't describe. The job got done half a day before he said it would. The cleanup was neat and thorough. The price of the whole job was the same as the estimate presented; the cost of the materials he provided was all covered by receipts, and was actually less than I expected. I would hire him again if I needed to.

I called the company and they dispatched Josh the following morning. He arrived on time and inspected the cabinet and felt we probably needed to replace it. He then called Phil, who is an expert cabinet refinisher and part of the company. He arrived 20 minutes later and thought the cabinet could be repaired be reinforcing the back wall with a piece of wood. He did so and stained the wood to match the inside oak finish of the cabinet. The cabinet was remounted with eight screws, where there had been two and angled one to meet a stud that had been missed by the original installer.Where the reinforcement wood was placed, it was fastened by screws through the sidewalls of the cabinet and the holes were filled and stained to match the oak color of the outside of the cabinet. In the mean time Josh recaulked the areas of the shower stall and cleared the drain to the 25 foot length of the pipe. Both men were careful of our counter tops, were courteous and extremely professional. Their ability to repair the cabinet saved us a huge amount of money, since we had a matching cabinet on the other side. These folks are absolutely great !

The estimate given was 100.00 less than what I was actually charged. I was told it would be 200.00 to install a dishwasher and light fixture and then after the work was done the bill was 280.00. In addition, the dishwasher was installed even though the repairmen became aware that a part in the dishwasher was defective. So I paid 200.00 to have dishwasher installed that still does not work. I am now going to have to hire someone else to un-install the dishwasher and have the part repaired and installed correctly. Also, very unprofessional and rude on the phone.

I used a groupon coupon for this service. I was abel to get a hold of the company on my 1st try. The repairman came out on the date requested . He was prompt and did his work professionally. He cleaned up neatly. I was very satisfied with the work he did.

Handyman Connection never came after I set up an appointment with them. They could not show up, they called to tell me they had a scheduling problem and they never showed up. They called me three weeks later to see if they could come out but that was too late for me.

He was very nice and spent about 2-3 hours and then told me it should work fine. At the time I was single so didn’t I really use the sink that much. I now am trying to use the sink a lot now and it isn’t working correctly. We are being forced to use the bathtub as a sink. I called them and asked to speak with Russ and the receptionist said that she would have him contact me. It has now been a week and I have not heard anything from them yet.

Greg came in and spent a bunch of time here trying to fix it. He came back and he appeared to have completed the work and it was working. He went through a lot of trouble to get it fixed temporarily. The basement light, that I use very often now sometimes works and sometimes it doesn’t. They problem was not resolved.

Within an hour, John had replaced 3 outside lights and had replaced the door bell. When he took down the existing ceiling fan in the family room, the support wood in the vaulted ceiling cracked in half. He had to go get wood and fashion a new piece. He did a nice job. The new support piece looks better than the old one. The installation of the ceiling fan in the bedroom went well. John really knew what he was doing. We are very pleased and will request him again.

I noticed the rotting wood and knew it had to be replaced. Mr. Jason Flory, Carpenter & Handyman for Handyman Connection had done some exterior home services for me in the past. I called Handyman Connection and requested Mr. Flory. Jason came out as scheduled, gave me an estimate, which I accepted and the work was scheduled. Jason removed the old rotted wood and replaced it with composite, in accordance with my request. He sanded and painted it, as well as hauling away the old wood and cleaning up everything. Jason did a fabulous job within budget and on time. The office personnel at Handyman Connection, Theresa and Beth were professional and responsive. I would definitely recommend calling Handyman Connection again.

Jason started on time and completed the project in 2 weeks. He installed dry wall in the stairway . took an old window out and replaced it with a new one, and rebuilt a casement around the window. He hung a suspended ceiling anad installed can lights. He moved plumbing and gas in order to move our washer and dryer into new space. Hung cabinets in the new laundry room. Put up baseboard and door trim, painted the whole room. Erverything was done to perfection.

I liked them, they are reliable and always do a good job.

I have always been satisfied with their work.
