The painter was nice. But the manager was rude. After they painted the porch was slippery. People were falling on it. They never added the correct contents to the paint to make it not slippery. They had to redo it and said I had to pay for the paint which I didn't. But didn't let me keep the paint.

First visit was for an estimate and to see what was needed to complete job. Craftsman was very professional, pleasant and helpful. He showed me that the low water pressure was due to clogged faucet heads-advised that I soak in vinegar and rinse first before replacing them. Worked perfectly and he did not charge for this! He reviewed all other charges with me before scheduling return visit. He came back as scheduled a few days later with all needed supplies and efficiently completed all work. Very pleased with service and would definitely use them again!
Description of Work: We had two toilets leaking/not flushing; bathroom faucets with very low water pressure; a non-working smoke detector and moving of a bathroom door to another bathroom with a new 6 panel door installed in it's place.

They are fantastic. I have used them before as well and they are great. They are on time and professional, they do great work and seem very knowledgeable and are reasonably priced. I can call and talk to a person and they will tell you when someone will be out and that is when they show up. They estimate the cost of the job and they are prepared to do the job. They will also call when they are on their way if you need them to.
Description of Work: I used STL Handyman Connection yesterday. They closed up a hole on the side of my house where some animals were able to get into my attic. They also painted over the area and now you can't tell there was ever a hole.

During the Christmas holiday, a screen on my screen-in porch was accidentally damaged. So I call Handyman Connection to get the screen replaced. I had all the materials needed for the job, so repairing it on the spot was no problem. The amount paid was for them coming out, a 10% senior discount and labor.

THE GUTTER ON MY GARAGE HAD BROKEN LOOSE AT THE MIDWAY POINT AND WAS HANGING DOWN. THIS IS A 70 TO 80 YEAR OLD GARAGE AND ATTACHING A GUTTER IS NOT VERY EASY. JAMES CAME OUT, LOOKED IT OVER, WENT AND GOT THE NECESSARY PARTS, CAME BACK AND STARTED WORK. HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT HE WAS ADDING A PIECE OF ALUMINIUM THAT SIDES UNDER THE LAST ROW OF SHINGLES AND DOWN INTO THE GUTTER, SO THE RUNOFF OF WATER GOES DIRECTLY INTO THE GUTTER AND NOT DOWN THE SIDE OF THE GARAGE. I HAD BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR AWHILE AND IT WORKS TREMENDOUSLY WELL. THEY HAVE DONE 4 OTHER JOBS FOR ME OVER THE LAST 3 TO 4 YEARS AND ALL BUT ONE WAS DONE EXCEPTIONALLY WELL AT A REASONALBE PRICE. THE ONE JOB THAT THEIR EMPLOYEE MADE A COMPLETE MESS OF WAS A CHIMNEY TUCKPOINTING. I WILL NOT GO INTO A LONG EXPLAINATION, BUT I HAD PAID HIM AND THEN RELIASED HOW BAD IT WAS. ASSUMING THAT IT WAS TOO LATE TO DO ANYTHING, I JUST DECIDED TO LET IT GO AND GET IT FIXED BY SOMEONE ELSE LATER. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER HANDYMANN CALLED AND I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM, THE GENTLEMAN ON THE PHONE EXPLAINED ABOUT THEIR WARRENTY AND THAT HE WOULD COME OUT, LOOK IT OVER AND CORRECT THE PROBLEMS AT NO CHARGE. HE DID JUST AS HE SAID AND THE CHIMNEY LOOKS LIKE IT IS BRAND NEW, NOT 80 YEARS OLD. THEY REALLY ARE AN OLD STYLE COMPANY THAT STANDS BEHIND THEIR WORK.

It went wonderfully. The gentleman called in advance to go over what I needed done so he could be sure to have the proper tools, etc., for the job. He showed up on time and completed the job in less than the time allowed. He then asked if I had anything additional I would like him to do in the time remaining. I would not hesitate to recommend or use this company again.

Buyer beware. I'm not sure if this should have been obvious to me or not, but Handyman Connection is essentially a referral service for a group of independent handymen rather than a company with direct employees who do the actual work. The first handyman they sent out, over promised and under-delivered. Each time he was set to begin work, he was late. His communication skills were poor at best and the quality of the work he performed was simply unacceptable. When I complained, he committed to coming back to make things right, but never did. I had to call the service repeatedly to get someone out to fix things and although the second person did his best to fix the work, it's still clear that both projects were patch jobs. I used the List to find this vendor and it's clear that many other members have had a much better experience that I did, so I'm guessing that my experience was probably related more to the handyman they sent out rather than the service as a whole -- but I'm proof that the whole process is a bit of a gamble.

We are currently working with this customer to correct this problem. We did not have this customer in our database because we were actually working for his neighbor, who in turn was having our craftsman do work for this member. Consequently, we were not able to communicate and coordinate scheduling as we normally would .

I dealt with Tony Perricone at Handyman connection and was most impressed with his work. A true craftsman. The door fits great and the water problem ahs been solved as well. The company charges labor costs (242.00)and the matertials (80.00) are paid to the craftsman or you can supply the materials yourself.

I would work with Handyman Connection again as they are responsive and prompt. On the three occasions that the handyman came, we were always in contact and he was always punctual. The jobs took several short visits due to the mudding and plastering of the wall, and Steve always came exactly when we expected him, was efficient, and did good work.
Description of Work: Steve was the handyman who was sent to our home and we were extremely pleased with the service. He and his assistant removed a built-in desk, plastered the wall, matched, cut, and reattached molding, repaired the wall and finished the area, after which we repainted. In addition, they installed a new sink in our bathroom and made a small repair to our basement water line. I appreciated the fact that they never made us feel that any job was too small. I would hire them again for future work.

For those who don't have time to read the full review, here' s a short version: worth every penny, great guys, would be happy to hire them again! For those who have the time to read, here's the long version. I'm a first time house buyer, decided to start my "home ownership experience" with a fixer-upper. Well, of course Murphy's law applied and everything that could go wrong did. The first contractor I've hired turned out to be a complete disaster. Long story short, a couple of month after trying to work with him and a few thousand dollars wasted we parted our ways. Obviously, being burned once, was extra careful selecting the replacement. I've looked for companies that had multiple (at least several dozen +) positive reviews. Handyman Connection appeared to fit the bill, so I've given them a call. Andy, the owner, and Joe, the foreman, have shown up exactly on time. Master bathroom and kitchen needed full gut and remodeling and another bathroom needed to be added from scratch. From our conversation it was clear that both Andy and Joe were very professional and knew what they were talking about. Well, I decided to give them a shot. Turned out to be a very good idea. The work started exactly as scheduled and Joe was running the project in highly professional manner. I was quite impressed with his work and how he has resolved some complex issues. For instance, we needed to raise ceiling in the second bathroom. Other contractors I've interviewed prior to bringing on the HC guys suggested quite odd, if not say ridiculous ideas on to how resolve this issue (boy I'm glad I didn't let these other guys do the job!). Joe has came ups with quite elegant and I would say brilliant solution. Now the added bath not only functional, it looks great! The work on both bath and the kitchen was done in a workmanship manner. The installers took care of every single detail, from framing to finishing the walls and tile. Kitchen cabinets have been perfectly leveled and when the counter-top guys showed up they have commented that it is rare to see job done that well. Joe went beyond his call of duty and has helped with a few items that were not on his original to do list, which was quite nice of him. Finally, customer service is great. Both Beth and Theresa at the office are very helpful in keeping things on track and moving forward. Overall all was great, A+. Both bath and the kitchen look great, couldn't ask for more.
Description of Work: I hired them to do some master bathroom remodeling. They also did a second bathroom addition, and some kitchen remodeling.

There are two patio doors in the back of my house. We had a 12'x19' cedar deck built outside the master bedroom 18 yr ago, but the patio door from the great room led to nowhere. All these years, we've had to carry food from the kitchen through the bedroom to get to the grill on the deck. We've talked about building a deck outside the great room for years, but just never got around to having it done. Handyman Connection (James Marks) did such an excellent job repairing my garage trim this summer that I decided to hire them again to build a new cedar deck outside the great room. James assured me that he could use the same materials and style and make the new addition mesh with the existing deck so it would look uniform. We looked at the area together and talked about it so that he would know exactly what I wanted. James drew up the plans and I signed a contract. Once I received approval from the Homeowners Association, the work began. James took care of filing the plans with the county, getting the proper permits, and ordering the lumber and materials. It was a relief that I didn't have to deal with any of that. The administrative details was left in good hands. We had some rainy days so the deck construction took about 2 weeks. We were impressed throughout the construction with the professionalism and attention to detail that we observed. My husband is an amputee so James took care to build the steps leading from the deck to the ground and the railings on both sides with my husband's comfort and safety in mind. He had my husband try going up and down the steps with his prosthetic leg to ensure he could do it with ease. I thought this was very considerate and thoughtful. Even the county inspector commented that Handyman did a nice job in being considerate of the homeowner. Our dryer vent also ended up under the new deck. The old one had broken flaps. Because the deck would cover the vent and make it difficult for us to replace it, James replaced it during the construction which I really appreciated. Our finished deck is now 12'x41' and WE LOVE IT. It is large enough now where we can have 3 zones: cooking, dining, hot tub/seating. We still need to stain the new deck (I did not include staining as part of the job) but we can't wait to shop for furniture and start using it next spring and summer.
Description of Work: I had a 12'x22' cedar deck built adjacent to an 18 yr old 12'x19' cedar deck on back of house.

Contacted Handyman and set up appt. for replacing tile backsplash in kitchen and some odds and ends handyman type work. Had to reschedule because a previous job ran over and then had to reschedule again because I had to be out of town. When it finally came time for the work no one showed up and at ~10am I called and was told that Josh (the worker assigned to the job) was on another job. He called back and I was told he did not know my job had been rescheduled. There is a big gap in the communications between the office staff and the workers, so be sure the get the phone number for the worker and communicate directly with them. When Josh did get to the job, a couple of days later, he was extremely helpful, professional and personable. He made several great suggestions about designing the tile backsplash (which was the big job) in the kitchen and was very meticulous about getting measurments correct and laying out exactly how the tile should go up. Total the job took 4 days and I couldn't be more pleased with the final results. Josh was great. I'm giving an overall grade of a B mostly because of the communication and scheduling difficulties with the office staff, but Josh and the completed project get an A.

I was shocked when I saw a ad for Handyman Connection ! It has been 4 years since I went through this nightmare , but still wanted others to know my story . Please reconsider hiring this company !! ****************** Andy is correct - there are two sides to the story and the side he is telling you is the side he needs to tell to stay in business ! As you can see by his response the type of business he runs !!! ( A professional would call a customer that gave them $5,500 for a incomplete job a hustler !! ) I am not a hustler . What I am is a customer that would like to get the job that they paid for and had a contract for !!!! I was trying to get my basement finished after being taken by another company . Handy Man Connection knew that when they contracted to do the work and he clearly stated that in his rebuttal . If they did not want to do the job then why did they accept the contract ? Andy was paid in full for a job HE DID NOT COMPLETE !!!!!!! He had 2 weeks of work and got paid in full ! If that seems right to you when you read this - take your chances !!!!
Description of Work: PLEASE READ PLEASE do not hire this Company!! I hired a different company to finish my basement because my father was no longer able to be by himself . After the company I hired had $25,000 of my money and I did not have $25,000 worth of work done in my basement the Attorneys general shut him down ! Channel 2 news came and did a story on the company and the experience I had . My father never made it to my house he passed away . I was left without my father and $25,000 and a basement that was not complete !!! Based on the BBB report and Handyman's Connection advertising of no money down and no money till completely satisfied I choose Handyman Connection to finish my job . Part two of my nightmare began !!! I had 3 pages on a bid for work to do with a $ 6.000 bid . The man that did my bid was the man that was going to do my work! I had no idea until I had problems that this man was new and under bid my job and Andy had never looked over my bid until I called him because I had to ask the man to leave . Who has a company and sends a new man out to bid a job that is that large and the owner never goes over the job or the estimate to see if it is right ???? Andy admitted fault and said he would make it right and sent someone else out to do the work . His demeanor and the way he handled this situation was awful . I could not get the new worker to do most of the things that were written in the contract !! When I spoke to Andy about it I got no where . Based on the situation and what I had already been through I decided to just forget it . I had already paid Handyman Connection $3,000 the job did not get completed . After all the ad said no money till completely satisfied ! Andy knew I was not satisfied he did not care . I started receiving calls from him , his company and collection agency that would call me 8 times a day . Two years went by when I had a knock on my door , I had a summons to appear in court - Andy decided to sue me !!!!!Yes , I did not sue him for not completing my job he sued me for no payment of work that was not complete !! I have never been sued , I started contacting attorneys and found out the attorneys fees and going to court could cost me more than what I owed ! We came to a agreement of where I paid him $2,500 instead of the $ 3,000 for work that was not completed ! I joined Angie`s list because I was in hopes of finding reputable companies to do work on my home ! I receive a book once a month with ads from Angie`s List of what I thought were reputable companies .

There are two sides to this story. Bottom line, we were the second contractor to be hussled by this customer. Two weeks of labor and materials to try to make this customer happy and we received no payment in return. She would not return phone calls or discuss any kind of negotiated settlement. We ultimately had no choice but to turn her over to a collection agency. In ten years of doing business, this was the most unreasonable customer we have ever had. Anthony Hough Owner

I chose Handyman connections based on their lead abatement certification, the reviews on Angie's list and their enthusiasm. I also liked their willingness to paint only one or two side of th ehouse until we could afford tohave the rest of it done. They did a good job with the power washing, but did not scrape any of the loose old paint, so they would not have to use any of the specialty equipment required on old homes with lead paint I was disappointed with the caulking and patching, they left holes and uneven spots everywhere,. They did not help with choosing paint colors as requested. In fact we had minimal communication once we accepted their bid. Once they finished the prep, the paintng went quickly, but they hated our color choices and we were unsure about them but are stuck. The painters did not show up every day and did not call when they were not going to come. When they said the job was done, I pointed out they had not painted the window edges iside the storm windows, which was the first thing listdont heir contract! they said they were coming back to do that " tomorrow" and Never DID! The quality of the pain job is not good. the porch railings are rough and have obvious drips and there are spots peeling after less than two months. They also never returned to pain the fireplaces as promised. I would NOT recommend them for any outside paint job, unless maybe you have a brand new area or home to paint. We paid extra for them because they have the lead abatement certification, but they were unwilling to address that at all.

Initially the quality of work was great. they did a fantastic job on our living room ceiling. One of the handymen ( Joe) took our broken window frame home and rebuilt it from scratch and it is beautiful We own a century hom in Webster Groves and the company failed to acquire the permits needed to rebuild the porch. this resulted in a stop work order and several months without a porch. Knowing the handyman is not familiar with our area, we waited patiently, but got little communication about the hold up and no one ever came to clean the debris and materials scattered in our driveway and yard for months while waiting to get the permit required to complete the project. when work restarted, they did not show up when they said they would and did not return phone calls in a timely manner. When the porch was finally done, it is beautiful and sturdy, but it was a 6 month project instead of several weeks as planned. We were also saddened that price went up repeatedly during the project, although that may ahve been unavoidable due to the old, damaged condition of our porch.
Description of Work: Handyman connections replastered our living room ceiling, repaired our drop ceiling in the kitchen, finished some drywall, replaced a broken window frame and rebuilt our rotting porch.

Response from Handyman Connection of Chesterfield
We assumed (mistakenly) that a permit was not required to repair an existing porch. Part way into the project we were visited by a Webster Groves inspector who said a permit for this type of work was in fact needed. This resulted in a work stoppage along with preparation of drawings which then were submitted to the City which reviews drawings on a every other week basis. We then needed to get a Project Manager involved since the administrative time and effort required exceeded the capabilities of the Craftsman involved on this job. Having the city involved did result in the loss of control of our schedule. This delay also put us into the winter which prevented us from digging the required piers. We accept responsibility for not knowing in advance that this repair required a permit and apologize for the inconvenience to our customer. Anthony Hough Owner
