After calling Handyman Connections, they set me up with a worker who came that day, inspected the job, and gave a bid. The office called the next day to see if he had come, and if I was satisfied. I planned on asking for a second bid, downsizing the work a bit. By this time, the gentleman was not working with the group any more. They called me immediately and sent another gentleman the next day. He arrived on time, calling when he was close to our home. He was knowledgeable, gracious, and thorough. He wrote everything out and explained all details. I was going out of town the next day and told him I would call when I returned. After doing so, he came the next day to measure the areas he would be working with. He called the next day to set up a time for him to do prep work - arrived on time - no problems. The following week, he called to tell me when he could come to complete work. Again, arrived on time, gave an estimate of how long it would take, explained all the procedures to me. When he finished, later that afternoon, he asked me to go inspect the work with him and to ask any questions I might have. He was an excellent choice. I would use Handyman Connections again.
Description of Work: Handyman Connections provided the name of a person whose expertise fit my needs. In this case, we had three garage posts that had peeling paint and rotting wood. The handyman called and set up a date ( within 48 hours) to come and see if he was a good fit for the job, and to give a bid. When bid was accepted, he came to measure the space, then a few days later to complete the work.

I am very dissapointed in this company. I have been talking to the owner/manager Theresa who would not provide her last name, which is also unprofessional. I believe they are hiring anybody off the streets. These guys have been very unprofessional. They give you a day and time they will start the job, and never show up. As a customer, I should not have to keep calling the office asking when someone will show up to do the work. My initial contract was on 9/3/13 by 1st guy, he didn't come to approx 1 1/2 to 2 weeks later. when he came, he scrape off a large amount of paint from my exterior concrete porch, but was removed from the job, while he was doing it, by Theresa, because of his unprofessionalism. He and I had a disagreement about the type of paint I bought for my porch work. He told me to buy exterior paint, but didn't give me all the details. I ended up buying the wrong type of paint, after he pointed it out to me that this pain is for porch decks and not concrete work, he said he would use it anyway. I didn't want the wrong paint to be used, especially, if he told me it would not work for concrete. This was the 2nd eye opener, I had about this company. He insisted he told me to buy a special type of paint, but I know he did not, and it was not written clearly on my contract, he himself wrote up. He and I had a disagreement and I called the office to discuss the matter with the owner-Theresa. She made many attempts to talk to her guy, who would not respond to any of her calls, therefore, she removed him off the job. The company then sent a second guy to rewrite a new contract and begin the work on 9/16/13. Again, this guy gave a day and time he would perform the work, and he has yet to show up to perform the work. Now, I have a worst exterior porch than I had before. I am very upset and angry. All along, I continued to call and asked Theresa the owner/manager if her company would be able to complete this job and she assured me they would. However, this is not the case. They apparently don't seem to be aware of where, these guys are and when they will do the job. I have wasted an entire month, time and energy dealing with this company. I have paint i cant' use and a scraped porch that uncompleted. This is not professional at all. I am in question of the guys they sent out to my home to perform these services. This has been one of the most unpleasant experiences I have ever had. I think the Angie's list customers need to be aware of Handyman Connection. I hope to save someone else the frustration, time, and energy, I wasted on this company. Thanks, a concerned customer Lavada
Description of Work: I made initial contact with this company at the beginning of Sept for them to simply scrape and repaint my exterior porch. They sent a man outon 9/3/13 to write up contract. I waited an additional 2 weeks before he finally came out. The guy began to scrape off the old paint but was removed from the job d/t his unprofessionalism. They sent a 2nd guy out who wrote up a new contract on 9/16/13 who did not keep his obligations of when he was to start. the job never got done.

We told [member name removed] on Monday, 9/23, that our Craftsman would be at her house between 11A and 1P on Tuesday, 9/24. At 11:30A she called the office screaming that no one was at her house yet. She actually screamed for 15 minutes before our CSR hung up. Our Craftsman, who was the second one assigned to this project, was enroute to her house during this call. We called our Craftsman and told him not to go. We will not do business with someone who this rude and threatening. We have already done the hardest part of this $490 project, which was the scraping off of the original paint, and have not received any payments from this customer. A misunderstanding on the type of paint that the original Craftsman asked the customer to buy has resulted in a loss of good will between our company and this customer. The paint the customer purchased would have worked fine, but it was not the brand the Craftsman requested and preferred.

I called and spoke to them in the morning on Friday and needed someone to come and affix my front-loading LG washer and dryer to their new pedestals. I told the lady I spoke to all the details I had that we had just moved to this house and the movers had already placed the washer dryer on the new pedestals but my husband was not able to attach them since he could not single-handedly move/maneuver the machines enough to be able to install the screws and tighten etc so we needed handman services for that. She said their minimum for an hour was $120 (of course they do not want to come out there for a 30$ job). I mention to her that I do not think the job will take an hour, so if it gets done in lesser time I could ask the guy to get something else smaller done within the hour at the rate of 120 and she agrees. The guy arrives and my husband is at home and completes the job in 20 minutes (He also plugs in the machines to the esisting outlets and puts in the dryer vent already in place. He did not have to do any electrical/plumbing work) He then tells my husband the charge would be $215 since its per machine. My husband mentions that I told him it was agreed at 120 but he refutes that saying per machine. Now really at this point my hubby should not have handed him a credit card which he does. When I get home and get the whole story, I call their office number listed here on angies list and talk to teh lady who tell me she needs to talk to her guy. Calls me back and then we have a long discussion, during which she tells me her guy said the work took an hour( a lie) and he had to do electrical/plumbing work ( a lie). She offers me a $50 discount, I am like are you kidding me, this is a complete rip off and no way to do business. Finally I get her to agree to charge me only $120. I hope they are honest enough to atleast keep their word(cannot tell until I see my credit card statement) else I am reporting them to BBB and disputing the charge with my CC company. Would never ever do business with them again. I do not know if this guy is the problem and the company is okay, in any case, I would expect them to be professional enough to own up for their employees mistake.

We had 4 people in the communication loop which made this more difficult than it needed to be. (Member name removed) who called for service, her husband who met with our Craftsman and our Customer Service Rep who scheduled the appointment. We have a $120 minimum for this type of project. However, the Craftsman provides the actual labor estimate when he arrives and can review the work. The customer can accept or decline our bid with no obligation. In this case, we gave the customer an estimate of $215 to do this work. The husband accepted and our Craftsman did the work. (Member name removed) was upset because she thought we were giving her the actual price on the phone when that price was only a minimum charge. Due to the misunderstanding, the customer was only charged $120 and our calls to discuss this situation have not been returned.

Bad - one guy came and gave an estimate - said it would take about 15 hours, but did not show up for the job over 3 days citing car trouble. next guy came, brought his girlfriend, did a total of 4 hours work one day, and 3 the next day and didn't finish all of his duties and sat outside with his girlfriend most of the time, and charged us for 15 hours work - told my husband that the estimate was for the jobs performed, not for the hours worked.

This sounds terrible! Our first Craftsmen did have mechanical problems with his truck and we offered to send another Craftsmen. Sometimes a Craftsmen will bring a helper to hold a ladder or get tools, supplies, etc. We do price by the scope of work, not by the hour. The only reason we estimate work times is so that the customer can plan for how long we will be on site, not for billing purposes. We delivered the scope of work on our contract for the price accepted by the customer. The subscriber's husband said the workmanship was fine.

This went very well. The gentleman that performed the bid was punctual and professional. Due to my schedule I had to wait awhile before having them perform the work so they had to send another couple of workers to do the job. They too were very punctual, professional and took the time to thoroughly communicate the plan and work out the schedule to meet my needs. I am very satisfied with their work and attitude.

I had appointment set up with them and the person that suppose to come didn't came out. I called them again and talked to the lady and she was very kind and courteous and she's got a man here within hours. This was the first time that man was suppose to come and he didn't come. I was very annoyed with the girl because I called and ask her where is the handymen because it was time for him to be here and she said that he called me and I didn't answer my phone. I looked at my calls and I called him Monday and he was suppose to be here. He called me on a Tuesday and the repair was on a Friday and did not call me back. She said that she's gonna talk to the handymen and sent someone else out. That was first time because when I used them at the past people say they're gonna be late or cannot be there in 15 minutes early they do never run like that. The guy that came out was great. It's raining when he came out and I felt my cat had got out of the house and he even stayed till I found my cat and he's was a very, very nice and pleasant person. I have never ever had a mess experience with them. Their work is 100% for me. I really, really like this company.
Description of Work: I used Handyman Connection- St. Louis last Friday for plumbing services.
I found them to be very accommodating to my needs and responsive. Certainly, the work that he did was very good. The only issue I had was that he charged 80 dollars an hour and so it was 160 dollars that I paid for time that I didn't get but when I mentioned it, they were very quick to respond to that. I have nothing bad to say about that.
Description of Work: Handyman Connection fixed a window that the siding was not installed properly and it was leaking. We had to have the drywall fixed which they did as well. They repaired a chain-link fence that is stormed, installed the ceiling fan and cleaned out some drains that weren't draining well.

It went fantastic! My husband is military and when he returns this weekend I wanted to have our flagpole mounted and the American flag waiving high! Teresa and Lisa were so helpful in the office and I have high praises for them both! John came out that same afternoon and mounted the pole to the brick front porch (my husband had tried numerous times to do it but without success due to the mortar and tuck pointing crumbling). John is so kind, professional and the work he did is incredible! I definitely encourage anyone reviewing this company to know that it is a reputable one. Definitely will call them again for other house projects :)

We had called him to do a high ladder job because a small piece of siding would keep blowing off at the highest point of the roof line. He came and fixed the issue very quickly. We're getting ready to sell our older home and don't have time to complete several small projects, so I contacted Handyman Connection after reading the reviews. I scheduled an appt for a Tuesday between 1-3 and the office manager called back to see if her handyman could come between 5 and 6. He completely failed to show up. First thing the next morning I called to reschedule and the manager said that Josh "totally forgot" to come to my house. She rescheduled for between 9 and 10 that morning and said that Josh would call on his way. He never called and then showed up 10 minutes late. He did not apologize for missing the previous appointment or for being late the day he actually showed up. I showed the handyman all the projects we need completed. He quoted me an outrageous price of $1600 and said that Handyman Connection automatically takes 50% of whatever he charges simply for making the appointment. So, half of the quoted price was just for Handyman Connection to book an appointment and send someone to my house...someone who forgot to show up in the first place. I did not use Handyman Connection to provide any services.

We apologize for this experience. We take missing an appointment seriously. Also, all of our Craftsman are required to call our customers to introduce themselves before going to an appointment. The company does split the labor payments with the Craftsman. The Craftsman make a commission that is based on the customary labor rates for this type of work. The office, however, does more than just set an appointment. We have office expenses including background checks, payroll, insurance, warranty expense, advertising costs and a variety of other expenses associated with running a business which enable us to provide service and accountability to our customers. It is too bad our Craftsman did not fairly explain this.

Maybe it is my fault for expecting too much, but I was under the impression that the damaged piece of fascia was going to be replaced in its entirety. This was not the case however, as the handyman just cut off the bottom 18-24 inches of it and put in a patch in it's place. And he did not do it very well. While the paint matches, the piece is very obvious and looks terrible. He also left the can of paint sitting on the hand rail. Which would not be a problem except that I asked to also clean my gutters. But what I did not expect was that he would clean the gutters onto my deck and then leave that mess there as well. This includes the gutter screens that he just left sitting there. I don't know about you, but I kind of figured he would clean the gutters and at least push the waste into the yard...but I guess that step costs more or something. Same thing with the trash he left behind. Overall, I am pretty dissatisfied. This is my home. I don't want to have it patched and looking crappy. I want it to look nice. I think this annoys me enough that I am going to have to call a real carpenter and have this done right. In the meantime, I guess I have to clean up Steve's mess. You think they'll pay me for that? You know, finishing what they started? *EDIT* So after they read my review, I was contacted by one of their customer service reps. In our conversation she told me that A) she was sorry that they left a mess but that their guy denied it. I asked if she wanted to see a picture, she said no. B) That she was very concerned about the grade I gave them. And that they have an A rating and do I know how hard it is to bring a grade up? It takes 7 A reviews to bring a bad grade up and would I please change the grade. C) She said that she wished I had called them to let them know they did a poor job before I reviewed them. D) She said that there was mis-communication on the scope of the work, and for an additional fee they would come out and do the work the way I thought it was going to be done. After thinking on this for a while, here are my thoughts: A) I am not making up the mess on my deck and the construction waste that was left behind. Don't tell me he denied it. Just apologize. B) No. I won't bring up the grade. In fact, as a result of this phone call, which in all honesty was purely an attempt to get me to raise their grade from a "C" I decided to drop it to a "D". I am insulted that the phone call was aimed at not satisfying me, but a deep need to get a better grade. C) Do your job right the first time. I should not have to call you to clean up your mess. And even if I had, that, in my mind, is still less than average performance and would not result in an A or a B. D)Really? After I had to spend my time finishing the job you were contracted to do, you have the nerve to try to sell me something else? Frankly, I was a little bit shocked that you didn't offer to do the repair, correctly, for free. We are talking about a difference of 6 feet of board, some nails and a little paint. How about we take the hourly fee I charge my clients, apply it to the amount of time it took to clean my deck, and subtract that from your adjusted fee? This whole experience has left me bitter. They had an opportunity to make it right in the phone call. She could have apologized. She could have said, let us take a percentage of your next work with us, should you choose to use us again. But grade grubbing, making excuses and trying to get me to give them more money is outright bad business. *RESPONSE TO RESPONSE (I'm in bold) "I contacted Mr. [member name removed] after reading his initial review on Angies List. At Handyman Connection we want all of our customers to have a positive experience. I asked him if he would allow us to come back out to his home and review the work and he declined." This was offered as a service with an extra charge. So no, I did not accept. Why would I pay for more bad work? "I never asked Mr. [member name removed] to change our grade on Angies List, infact he told me he would consider raising our grade to a B" While I don't remember the exact words of what she said, it was pretty clear how important the grade was to her. How else would I know it takes seven good reviews to change a grade? I have no need to make any of this up. I gain nothing from any of this. In fact I've actually lost money and time. Both in doing their job and writing these reviews. "I told him we would have liked the opportunity to come out and make sure he was satisfied before he posted a bad review." Well, how many chances do you want to get things right? It is my belief that your chance to review it was when you did it. No one looks at a messy job site and says "there...perfect". Have some pride in your work. "The original work order was for replacing just the damaged section. Mr. [member name removed] said that he understands there could have been a price increase for replacing the entire board. I asked if we could come out and review the work and look at replacing more of the board and he said "no we are thinking of having all the siding replaced in the near future"." Again, this was offered as an extra service with an upcharge. I did apologize to Mr. [member name removed] for the experience that he had and asked him if he did reconsider using us again we will make sure to assign a different craftsman. She did say that. I also told her that I would not be calling them again. Honestly, I can appreciate the fact that they need to defend themselves...so I will add a caveat. This was my experience and my experience only. There are a great many people on angies who find this company competent and clearly had a great job done. I was just not one of them. Who knows, maybe the man working on my job was harried, or had other things on his mind, or overworked or whatever, and just neglected to care about his work. But that's not my problem. That's the problem of that man. My problem is that I was a dissatisfied customer made further dissatisfied by customer service. They really did have a chance to make it up to me...the phone call from customer service could have been a much more pleasant experience. The fact that she brought up grades at all is upsetting. Satisfy the customer and you'll get good grades. I am a fair reviewer. I will point to the variety of reviews I have made. If you do an average job you get an average grade. An A is not average. If you do a bad job you get a bad grade...I do give A's and I have given them for quality work with great service...but this was not such a case.

The original work order was for replacing just the damaged section. Mr. [member name removed] said that he understands there could have been a price increase for replacing the entire board. I asked if we could come out and review the work and look at replacing more of the board and he said "no we are thinking of having all the siding replaced in the near future". I did apologize to Mr. [member name removed] for the experience that he had and asked him if he did reconsider using us again we will make sure to assign a different craftsman.

They were very responsive on the phone and helpful in setting up appointment and estimated costs. Good work and friendly repairman but was behind schede by days. We had a closing waiting on repairs but all ended well. I would use them again.

Great experience. Tony called on his way and arrived on time, gave me a detailed description of the work he would be doing, quoted a price and got right to work. Among other electrical-type work, he replaced a large portion of drywall on our ceiling where there had been a leak. His work was thorough and meticulous. We will definitely call him again.
Description of Work: Replaced an outdoor outlet to bring it to code, replaced ceiling drywall and primed it. Fixed two other small holes in ceiling. Sprayed popcorn texture on all.

John's work was excellent. The original estimate doesn't included materials used & when I received the final bill I was confused on some of the items. We had a misunderstanding & I was upset but John called me back & we got everything worked out. I think this misunderstanding could have been better explained at time of completion. I would not hesitate using John again. He is very knowledgeable and a good worker. After his work was completed he cleaned up the entire area. I was disappointed how Handyman Connection handled the problem I had. They didn't help me at all. There only reply was we will forward your complaint to John and he will contact you. I realize now that John is a subcontractor to Handyman Connection and all they do is find work for John and receive a fee for this connection. They don't get involved or take any responsibility other than finding someone to do the work.

Response from Handyman Connection of Chesterfield
[member name removed] contacted us regarding questions about the materials that John purchased for his project. I had to have him speak to John directly since he had all the original receipts.

The guy came out to give us a bid and we accepted. He started the job the same day and finished filling the post holes the following morning which only took him an hour or so. He was very courteous and professional. Knows his trade well. I would highly recommend.
Description of Work: Dismantled a 4ft wooden fence surrounding my property that had fallen into disrepair. Hauled away the old fencing and back filled the post holes
