Did not use services but did appreciate the really fast reply and the great information that was provided to us. They didn't try to sell us on anything but just gave straight information that helped up make an informed decision
Description of Work: A Schneider Kennedy representative contacted me right away and provided great quality information which helped us make a decision about what to do with our property. We were looking at the question as to whether repair or rebuild an existing home property. We ultimately decided to not rebuild but to sell the property as is.

Thank you for the report. We are happy we were able to assist this member with the information they needed to make an informed decision. Though we do not actively seek real estate clients Mr. Schneider dose have a Real Estate Brokers Licence in the State of Missouri and can provide referrals to excellent RE professionals if a client requires this type of assistance.
David is wonderful. Here are 4 reasons why: 1) He listens. A lot of people appear to listen, but David asks questions so that he gets to know you well enough to understand what would and wouldn't work for you. His suggestions are based on that understanding, not on his own druthers. Example: it turns out we're brown (he didn't tell us; we figured it out :) but David is colorful. He let us be brown. If you are honest with him, you'll end up with things that work for you. We are completely dumb about decorating matters; David is completely enlightened. The project was an enjoyable learning experience for us, albeit more expensive (labor and materials) than we intended. But people like us forget that "replacing the counter" means also replacing sinks (2 in our kitchen), faucets, backsplash, range hood... And our expectations were based on what things cost 20 years ago (when we did our original kitchen remodeling). And to his credit, David did point out less expensive paths. 2) He managed the details fluidly. David's job involves knowing a lot about homes and decorating materials; reading people, scheduling subcontractors, and a myriad of nano details that have to be juggled with 50 balls in the air at once. This was the smoothest remodeling job and quickest that we've experienced, even though - as expected - there were some glitches. The blinds were redone 3 times, but that was entirely due to faulty design; that my husband was on the phone (pleasantly) with the engineer who designed them was because David arranged it. Actually, it was wonderful having David run interference with manufacturers and workmen. He insisted that people come on time, clean up, and be excellent craftsmen. When the counter installers came 8 hours late, David negotiated a refund. 3) David's "people" are terrific. All the people David brought into perform work were uniformly excellent. We were comfortable having them in our home. Bob, the carpenter came many times to handle all sorts of things, big (kitchen tear-out) and small (replace a hinge on shelf that was wrong 20 years ago on the first remodeling job); Bob was skillful and thoughtful and a pleasure to have around. Steve, the floor installer, was persistent, careful, skillful and he laughed at my jokes. Ditto for Matt the painter. 4) David cares. He cares about the job; he is personally invested in having it be right. Not just done; not just good-enough. Right. He treated our job as if it were his house or his best friend?s. Which makes sense, because he also cares about us. We have become friends (way more than just customers) as part of this process. We think that?s pretty rare in this business.
Description of Work: We had 3 things in mind: new window treatments in LR, DR, Den; replace kitchen floor; replace kitchen counter. The total job cost about $25,000; David's services were approx. $2300. We had dreadful 30 year old horrid curtains and our 20 year old remodeled kitchen needed refreshing (floor and counters).

Wow! I am overwhelmed and beeming with pride. I often say "my business is design, decorating and remodeling but my job is making people happy." Reports like this one and comments like these make it all worthwhile. Thank you!
We've worked with two designers in the past and we switched to Schneider Kennedy Design and have been very happy with their service and expertise. Unlike other companies, David truly listens to what you want your house to look like, rather than forcing a design concept that may not fit your house and/or personality. He is amazing at selecting colors, and in the past couple of months he has helped us pick out granite countertops in our kitchen, a kitchen backsplash, cabinet fixtures, and helped us with many other design questions along the way. He and his assistant Cody are always professional and truly care about the customer. We are hooked and do not plan on changing designers ever again!
Description of Work: Overall design ideas, color selection, arranged estimates, oversaw project completion, and helped us install granite countertops, backsplash, plumbing, and electrical work.

Thank you so much for your kind report. Client satisfaction is our number one goal. We are thrilled to be able to work with this member.
David started with a questionnaire that our son eventually filled out (so busy at work) - that survey detailed his likes and dislikes in all kinds of areas and his dreams for the basement. Our son is smart and told David that when it came to colors, fixtures, and other choices of style that David should use his decades of experience, and good taste, to narrow down the zillions of choices to just a few for his choice - worked out great and saved lots of hours of his time. David's company then provided detailed plans to the contractors for their bid and since David knew the various contractors we relied heavily on his opinion with this critical decision - and picked a contractor that worked well with David and did a fantastic job. David was over many times to confer with the contractor and sub-contractors - nothing escaped David's eye - nothing. David and our son went to various tile, stone, lighting, and carpet suppliers and picked out all the various styles and colors of the various items - all were the latest trends; there is no way we could have done that without David. That's why everyone has the eye-popping reaction to the basement - it looks like it came out of the pages of this month's award winning home design magazine. The finished project looks just fantastic and our son is already eyeing how the rest of the house will be remodeled to bring it into the 21st century and be integrated with his fantastic basement.......
Description of Work: Our son bought a house specifically for the purpose of finishing the unfinished basement into a bar, billiard room with fireplace, bathroom and movie room - we needed someone to design the basement and help pick a contractor - we chose David Schneider. To make a long story short David designed the basement and picked out everything from lights to the bar to the granite bathroom and countertops exactly to my son's specifications. The money spent with David was easily saved in the unbelievable prices he could get through all this contacts in various industries - money well spent. Overall the project cost $65,000 and since our son can't put a tie together with a shirt there is no way the basement would look like it belonged in a home design magazine without David's guidance and advice. We took advantage of a "Big Deal" that David ran and had him consult with us initially and when we decided that he was head and shoulders better than anyone else we interviewed we bought bulk hours from another "Big Deal" he had running at the time. Basically David interviewed our son and learned his likes and dislikes and his desires for the basement and interacted with our son for hours to design the dream basement he wanted and got. David provided many samples of carpets, fireplaces, stone for the shower, paint, and counter tops and integrated everything into an eye-popping design that will eventually mesh with the rest of the house when David designs that in a year or so. David interviewed three contractors, all A+ in Angie's List, and with his help we picked one that turned out to be just as professional and driven to perfection as David is; the two worked fantastic together. David supplied the finished drawings that all the sub-contractors used to supply bids and use for their various trades. There is NO way the basement would have turned into the jaw-dropping masterpiece it now is without David - it's cool to watch the oohing and ahhing of everyone who sees the new basement - worth every penny paid. As parents, it was neat to see something that our son dreamed of come life right in front of our eyes. We highly recommend David Schneider as a designer.....

Working with Member and his parents was a pleasure. Member is a very bright young man who fully understood the process, knows his taste and respects the judgment of professionals whom he hires. Understanding our clients wants, needs and taste is paramount. Member was clear about what he wanted in his finish lower level and that he wanted professional guidance and expertise. After reviewing the initial questionnaire and our first face-to-face meeting, we were fully equipped to design and decorate Member's lower level. We presented alternatives to Member for each of you finish items flooring, tile, granite, cabinetry etc. Member was able to make choices easily and expediently. This process or worked extremely well. Selecting a contractor and the various subcontractors went just as smoothly. Member and his father, both engineering, are precise and excellent communicators. As a team we interviewed and ultimately selected a contractor. The individual who was selected is someone with whom we have worked on numerous projects. We are fortunate to have experienced with a full range of contractors across the number of disciplines and this proved valuable for Member's project. This project was a complete pleasure from start to finish. We look forward to working with Member and his parents in the future. I have not worked with a designer. We filled out a detailed questionnaire about the space in question so David was well prepared to get right to work when he arrived. He and his associate helped us pick out paint colors and furniture arrangement for my daughter's room. He suggested colors that would never have occurred to me. The painter is coming next month. I am sure that the room will look so much better thanks to David's suggestions. I will use them again in the future.

It was an expensive project. His name is David Schneider. He is absolutely exceptional. The quality of his work is excellent, but it drove us absolutely crazy. If we have a lot of money and time he does exceptional work. When we noticed something wrong with the work he sent somebody out right away to fix it. The job cost us two and a half times more than the budget. It was frustrating. David Schneider prides himself in doing great work, but our experience with him was not that good. He wasted both our money and our time. He charges way too much for consulting, but I guess it was our fault. I didn't hate him or anything; it's just that it took too long and cost us too much. We were very frustrated. He did spend $2000 consulting us.
Description of Work: We used Schneider Kennedy Design LLC to fix something in our bathroom after it was overlooked in a remodeling job.

Today, 7/21/11, more than eight (8) months since completing this members project, this is the first time that this client has indicated any discontentment with the project or the associated cost. On 2/11/10 the client signed a contract which plainly spelled out both parties obligations, how they would be charged for all services, labor and materials. Under section 4.3 there is a detailed list of our fees. On 7/22/2010 the client was supplied a detailed six (6) page project estimate for $34,798.50. The client took several days to reviewed the estimate and subsequently accepted and signed the project estimate without mention of any concern. The delay in getting this project under construction was due to a members extensive and continual travel schedule. We do not commence with demo and construction till most if not all the material are on site. Given that we were building custom cabinetry we were delayed in getting the project underway. Once construction began (9/27/10) this project was completed in six (6) weeks. It is important to understand that the project that we completed for the client is a high-end custom built bathroom inclusive of, custom design and built cabinetry to fit the client, heated floors, toilet fitted with bidet seat, custom designed tile installed by a European crafts-person, lighting recessed into the wall cavities, shower plumbing system relocated for convenience to the client and fitted to their physical requirements and numerous custom/high end details and finishes When we began preparation for construction at the client’s home, weeks after the project estimate was signed, we were informed by the client that the entrance (off a deck approximately 3 feet from ground level) which we were to use at the rear of the home was also going to be under construction during the project. The client had hired a decking contractor to demo and reconstruct the deck, as a result our team was required to make provisions for work and entry to the job site that were beyond the scope of the work detailed in the estimate. At no additional charge to the client our firm did exterior site protection and made arrangements so that the contractors could continue the job with reduced inconvenience. The client was not billed for any of the additional hours and expense we incurred due to the inconvenience of the deck being demoed and rebuilt during our project. Additionally, the contractor doing the deck work utilized our dumpsters for the debris related to the deck demo and rebuilding. The member and their decking contractor were informed by Mr. Schneider that we were incurring additional charges for debris removal and no effort was made by the member or the decking contractor to reimburse our company for these expenses. During the reframing of the bathroom 2x6 stringers were installed in the walls to accommodate the potential of future grab bars at no charge to the client. Unfortunately, the client was injured off-site during construction and we spent countless hours resourcing grab bars for the client, for which we were not paid, whom repeatedly told us they wanted something that did not look like a grab-bar and that what we presented was "ugly" and "institutional". In addition to designing and building the client a new bath the client also engaged us to designed a bar/Pullman kitchen that could be used when their main floor kitchen was being remodeled - a project they had planned for this year since their floors were going to be refinished due to "problems" and dissatisfaction with the job done by a wood flooring contractor they had hired. We resourced materials, did CAD drawings and worked extensively with the client on this project which they ultimately decided not to do the bar/Pullman kitchen. Additionally, our company provided consulting and services related to decorating, furnishing and selecting and installing window treatments in several other areas of the client’s home. At the completion of the project Mr. Schneider met with the clients, whom are mathematicians and retired university professors, for more than an hour and completely reviewed all of the accounting related to the fees, labor and material for the clients project and other work. At this meeting the client agreed with and to the charges. At no time during or since this meeting till today has the client voiced any of the concerns stated in this report. Knowing that the client had gone beyond their original budget, and even though they were fully aware of the charges they were incurring, Mr. Schneider ultimately reduced our final invoice by $1662 on 11/23/10 even though we were entitled to full payment of our final invoices. Unfortunately in business, it is impossible to satisfy everyone 100% of the time. It is our perspective that this client was fully aware of the cost of our services, labor and materials. Their project cost were clearly spelled out in a detailed estimate that they signed, our charges were detailed in their signed contract, the contractors performed to the best of their abilities and the bathroom that we designed and built for them is both beautiful and highly functional for this client. We have even entered this bathroom in design contest . We regret that this client, more than eight months after completion, and with no prior mention or notice to us, is dissatisfied.” Occasionally, despite all our very best efforts, intentions and actions there are people whom we cannot satisfy and whom will be both unreasonable and purposefully destructive.

They worked within my budget. They came in for a consult. They saved me time, money, and stress on the kitchen remodel.
David was wonderful to work with on this project. He has great vision and wonderful attention to detail. All the subcontractor he hired for my job were wonderful to work with and very trustworthy. He understood our budget restraints and worked within them. I would definitely recommend Schneider Kennedy Design to all of my friends and would hire them again.
Description of Work: We remodeled our master bath and bedroom. A door was added between the two rooms and molding was added to the tray ceiling in the bedroom greatly enhancing the architectural details. In the bath we replaced the builder provided cabinets with 36" cabinets (adult height) and installed a cabinet tower between the two sinks. A granite shower surround, crown molding, spectacular lighting, updated fixtures completed the bath.

We have been transferred and wanted our home to look its best. When you live in a house you don't see the things that look odd or could use a little tweaking because you are used to seeing them that way. David walked through the whole house with me making many suggestions. In some cases it was the removing of pictures or rearranging of existing furniture. He also suggested purchasing a couple items of furniture and a few accessories. He then helped me with selection of these items keeping my budget in mind. We also had a few repairs that needed to be done. David very quickly lined up the right person for each repair. Each of them were prompt, professional and did a great job. I will definitely recommend David & Schneider Kennedy Design to my friends.

Photo #1 was taken from the hall outside our living room and shows one of the two arched doorways with the pet gates in place. Not a good look! We called for an appointment with David Schneider of Schneider Kennedy and provided him with information relative to our personal style and our budget for this project. Although it was a unique project that David had never specifically handled before, but he met the challenge with enthusiasm, skill and flair! David examined the problem existing doorways and the basic look of our condominium and developed a design proposal for two custom built french doors including trim and hardware. The new doors look as though they have been in our vintage condo forever! Photo #2 shows the same arched doorway with the new doors in place. A wonderful transformation. Photo #3 shows the second arched door to the living room with new doors in place. Photo #4 shows one of the new doors from the living room side. The completed arched doors function perfectly to let air and light through and include charming custom cut out inserts that nicely mirrors the design of the ceiling trim in the living room. David?s design also incorporated the basic look and scale of the other doors in our home including the vintage look glass door knobs throughout the unit. A very talented carpenter made templates for each doorway and the basic door shape was created. Once the doors were made, each door was then carefully fitted to each archway and any adjustments made on site. Most of the work (building the doors and the skilled painting) was done outside our home which my husband and I (and the cats) greatly appreciated. We highly recommend David and his skilled workmen without reservation. We now have ready access to our living room at last and the doors are breathtaking.
Description of Work: Schneider Kennedy designed and directed the installation of two custom built french doors for two open arched doorways leading into our living room. We had interviewed a number of handymen and carpenters for many months but none seemed to feel they could handle this particular project. At the time, both doorways had unsightly pet gates in place to keep our cats (in particular one very emotional one with issues) out the living room. We needed doors that kept the cats out, let air and light into the hallway off the living room, enabled us to enter and leave the living room with ease and we wanted doors that were a design asset to our home. We finally realized that we needed a designer for this unusual project and we got everything we wanted from Schneider Kennedy. We are very pleased with their work and we feel the job was well worth the price.

We needed to sell our 4800 square foot home. The real estate market has been rough so we thought we could use some help to expedite the home sale. We have used Schneider Kennedy Design previously for our master bath remodel, so when David told us he could assist with Home Staging we were "on board"..Unlike other staging companies, that want to only work in vacant homes and their furniture, David was able to use our furniture. He went out a purchased a few things to place around the house and changed some of our pictures around. He had a great idea of taking our living room furniture and placing in our lower level and bringing our furniture in the lower level upstairs. in the living room. I wish we would have done it a long time ago, because it looked so much better. David had the interior painted a great complimentary color, again something I wish we would have done long ago. David's expertise helped us sell our house in a week. It was amazing considering the real estate market. David has a very discriminating taste and it shows. He is punctual and is very detail-oriented. We didn't have to spend a ton of money, because David was able to use our own furniture, with just a few additions. We will continue to use David and refer him to family, friends and colleagues.

I am extremely pleased with everything. We have used David Schneider before and never regretted it for a minute! As usual, this job has been great!!! David's workers showed up when they said they would and did the work. David organized all jobs with his workers and checked on their progress. The floors are gorgeous. I absolutely love them! The quality of the work is "top notch". I like the color he selected to paint our interior, it really pulls our house together and compliments our furniture. His suggestions about adding extra can lights in the living room and bedroom ceiling lights were terrific and just what we needed. David also noticed the unfinished tile work in the kitchen and bathroom and was able to get tile to match what was already there. The finishing touch was helping us with furniture placement and hanging art work. He has a keen eye with color and space. He always kept us informed as to what was going on with the project. His budget was right on target. I will continue to use Schneider Kennedy Design for any work I need in our new home.
Description of Work: Moving into a used/new home and wanted assistance with color selection, painting, new hardwood flooring and some ceramic tile work in bathroom, basement and kitchen, additionally lighting and electrical work. Getting carpet cleaned and stretched. Arranging furniture in new home and assisting with placement of art work.
Both purchase experiences were great! The service was top notch and the quality of the blinds and furniture are exceptional! Thank you Schneider Kennedy Design, LLC!
Description of Work: Purchased blinds for our home nack in 2005 when we built our house. The blinds are wonderful and we are still enjoying them today! We have also purchased bedroom furniture with Schneider Kennedy about 1.5 years ago and truely love the quality and entire experience was great and hassel free!

It has been a great, hassle free, time saving experience. We started with a beige house with a large empty great room that opened to all the major rooms of the house. The room needed to set the tone for the whole house but remain compatible with our existing furnishings. After wandering the furniture stores myself and not finding something I wanted, I had decided I needed help. It all started with a questionnaire David had my husband and I both independently completed. The purpose was to determine our likes and dislikes about color and find common ground. The questionnaire also helped determine our style and the feel we wanted in the home. The result is we have a home we find relaxing and a place where we love to be. You will end up with a home of your tastes and preferences, not David?s. If you tell him no, he moves in another direction. We have completely re-done the great room, starting with existing white carpeting and building from there ? area rugs, paint, built in bookcases, new fireplace mantle, furniture, accessories. In the other rooms we added area rugs and accessories, furniture was re-arranged, and all rooms were painted. Our existing furniture (a different color palate) was integrated into the new color scheme with the use of area rugs, paint and accessories. David is always full of ideas. During the last few years we have replaced doors, repaired tile grout, added electrical/cable TV outlets, repaired drywall, replaced lighting and kitchen sink fixtures, cleaned carpets, etc. with David?s resources. David works with quality contractors. It?s nice to know they will arrive when promised. They are reliable and conscientious. David is on site daily when work is being done. He reviews progress and is always in touch with the contractors. His designer?s eye is more particular than ours. He has corrected/changed things that we did not even notice. The one regret I have is that we did not fully accessories soon after the furniture was purchased. Now that process is complete, the home looks even better. (See report on home staging for a description.) The cost shown is for an initial deposit. There were other fees for design time incurred over a 2 year period.
Description of Work: Design services initially in the great room - then coordinating the rest of the house to blend and flow together. We've been working with David for about 2 years on this project.

We had used David for design work a few years ago. We were missing the accessories that really make a room. Removing all the personal photos, etc. for showing the house made it even more obvious we needed help. Using most of what we had, David helped with furniture re-arrangement and purchasing of accessories to finish off 7 rooms. We bought anything from low priced items at discount stores to quality purchases from his design resources. The rooms have a good traffic flow and look inviting. I wish I had accessories sooner. Everything looks great in the home. I spent between $10 and $250 per item. Most items were under $30. It was our decision to make a few quality purchases of ?basic? items like lamps and mirrors that will easily find a place in our new home. I believe we have negotiated a favorable hourly rate compared to other staging services in the St. Louis area. The cost shown is for David?s advice and time and does not include items purchased.

David and Liz came out to give me a quote on how much it would cost to fix up a house I was buying out of foreclosure. I was within a week of when I was supposed to close, and had had multiple contractors come out, all of whom had given me completely different quotes. David and Liz were unique: they had a long questionnaire to fill out before ever meeting with you to help gauge your decorating taste and personality. When I met with them, it was clear to me that they had actually taken the time to read over this multi-page questionnaire! When I met with them, they spent hours with me walking around and inside the home, giving me very helpful suggestions and recommendations about what they thought would be the best way to fix up the house. However, at one point, David took me aside to talk to me about my reasons for buying this particular home. I told him, and he said that he hoped he wasn't overstepping, but that if I still could, he thought I should run from this house. He used to be a real estate agent himself before he got into remodeling and design, and he was telling me to run, because he saw the house becoming a complete money pit. I was not expecting this kind of behavior out of a contractor, but I was exceptionally appreciative of his candor. He went out of his way to recommend a current agent he knows, who he felt would take better care of me, and an environmental inspector he trusts (there were mold issues that developed at the house), and even went so far as to call both to get second opinions and let them know to expect calls from me. David was hugely helpful, and I walked away from the house. He was the only person among the contractors who was honest with me about the extent of damage and told me to get out while I still could. He also charged me less than he ordinarily does for a consultation because I had already lost so much money in the house. Great company, very honest... Good people. I will DEFINITELY be contacting them again when I buy another house. I highly recommend them!

Their guidance and honesty helped to get me out of a really bad situation in a house that would have ended up being a money pit. David also went out of his way to put in in contact with good, honest agents and environmental inspectors. They went above and beyond.

As discribed above SKD did all the above and I sold my home in 6 days. That's do to their work no doubt.
Description of Work: I hired Schneider Kennedy Design to Stage my home in preparation to sell this past summer. After having David do several projects for me and many of my friends, family members and colleagues I knew he would do an outstanding job Staging my home. I has use SKD many times for remodeling and decorating but when it came time to sell my 5000 sq. ft. house I turned to the internet first and called several stagers. Most of the people and companies I spoke with told me they only stage vacant homes. The concept of working with my furniture and existing decor was not something I found readily available. As a result, I called David to ask if he could recommend someone. This is when I learned that David did staging. Following an appointment to discuss my goals, need and budget David did as he always does and developed a action plan. The plan included adding, subtracting and utillizing furniture and decor to my eclectically decorated home. With his people he shopped and supplied me all the items that were needed to make the house a show place. David also advised me on a range fo issues that needed addressing to sell my home in this market. Read my report in the general remodeling category for more details on that side fo the equation. Having been an antique dealer many years ago and appreciated many styles my house was anything but cohesive. David's work was a miraacle. When he and his people were finished the entire house was unified and looked like a display home. Though my taste and way of living do not generally come off this way, the result was exactly what I desired-a very quick sale of my home at a good price in a bad market. Over many years David and his people have done many remodeling and decorating projects I have seen. Without exception all the projects were done professionally and perfectly. The expertise and work David did in Staging my home was no exception. If your selling or know someone that is before you call a realtor call SKD and hire David to help you ready and stage your home for sale. You won't find a better company or person.

Overall it was an excellent experience. There were no headaches. I expected him to complete it all and he did.
Description of Work: Schneider Kennedy Design has done a number of jobs for me. Over the past several years I have recommended David and his people to several of my friends, family and associates. David is a detail freak who has people for nearly everything one can imagine doing to a home. Though David is not a contractor himself, his knowledge and connections far and away make him more valuable that one could imagine. Recently, I decided to sell my 5000 sq. ft. home and downsize. Given the state fo the real estate market I knew that the house had to be as close to perfect as possible if I was going to get a fair price for my home. After making a laundry list of repairs and other items I called David. He came to my home and mapped out a plan of action, lined up various contractors and skilled workmen and managed their work. One fo the items on the list was the removal and replacement of a large bathtub in the master bathroom. The result was amazing. Using a very limited amount of remaining tile and some that he found- god only knows where- David designed and his contractors installed the new tub and deck. The result was perfect- as if it had been part of the original design. Without going into detail the list of items David Managed for us included additional plumbing flooring, painting, media and electrical wiring, roofing and siding items. All were done in a timely and professioal manner. After the work was completed, David and his crew came in and staged my home. I am posting another report under Home Staging on their work and results- if your selling or know someone who is- read this report. David's work resulted in two contracts on my home in less than a week. I was pleased beyond words. The cost or all the work SKD had done for me has always been very reasonable. When you hire Schneider Kennedy Design you are hiring people who really care about your projects, the work that is done and that your home is a reflection of your taste. What you get for your dollar is fair beyod the norm. Finding someone who will design, resource and manage contractors in the manner David does eluded me for many years. Having a firm that I can call and recommend that can do all this and then decorate to perfection is why I encourage you to only make one call when you are building, remodeling and/or decorating, David is the best!

Talk about ideas! David pours them out--all the time sensitive to our needs and tastes. He is very creative; has excellent taste and is most helpful in envisioning what the finished product will look like. We are in the early stages of this endeavor (designing) so no remodeling has begun yet.
Description of Work: David came to our home in response to my request for "some ideas" for a kitchen remodel and furniture placement in other areas of the home

All the work David and his crew have done for us has been beautiful! Our home is warm and colorful and interesting, not "the norm"--we're very happy with it. David is a pleasure to work with and is very detail oriented and very "hands on," even when the work is being done by one of his crews, rather than himself. He's generous and open with his ideas and suggestions and also willing to listen to the clients and incorporate their ideas. The crews that David brings in are also top-notch people that you can trust--even enjoy--having in your home. One of the things I appreciate about David is that, if there is a glitch in the project, he will bend over backwards to make sure things come out right. An example: We had our living room chairs reupholstered and there were a couple of problems with the outcome. One of the problems (a flaw in the fabric) David noticed himself, but we hadn't. He still made sure it was made right, and the chairs are lovely. The only surprise for us in working with SKD was that the decorating portion of the project was much more costly than we had anticipated, and it was difficult for us to keep a handle on just what things were costing as the project went along. Even so, I would definitely recommend David's work--he'll do a wonderful job for you!
Description of Work: David Schneider decorated our family room and living room, including rugs, furniture, draperies, and various accessories (also a rug and paint color suggestion for the dining room). David also arranged for a crew to rewire the audio/visual system in the family room so that we could have a flat-screen t.v. installed above the fireplace and surround sound coming through speakers in the ceiling. Additionally, we had carpeting installed on our stairway and upper floor and our master bedroom and bath painted.

We were having some windows and doors replaced and it required removing a smaller door and opening the area up to put a header in. Their quote was too high and unrealistic, so we went with someone else. I was very impressed with the person that came out here, though. He was one of the partners.
Description of Work: We contacted Schneider Kennedy Design to get an estimate for some interior designing and decorating.

Thank you to this member for the kind words. SKD did not provide this member an estimate. We chose not to offer an estimate for several reasons. The project we looked at involved removing and replacing several windows and enlarging an existing doorway and installing a new door. The wall there these windows and doors were to be replaced is the back (load bearing) wall of the home. The member had ordered the doors independently and had no formalized (draw plans) nor did they have construction permits for this construction. Our inspection and review of the door and window order the member show us revealed that the items ordered appeared not to be correct for the space. Additionally, the member and their window and door supplier had not anticipated installing a header and structural support for the replacement door which was substantially larger than the existing door. We informed the member of our concerns and they told us they had heard similar concerns, but not be offered a full explanation, which we provided, for the concerns. The replacement door and windows were purchased by the member through Direct Buy. The member, whom is not a contractor, architect, engineer or home designer of any kind is acting as the general contractor. SKD does not make structural alteration to homes without appropriate and required documentation. The nature of this project required the expertise of a trained and qualified professional prior to selection and purchase of material. SKD informed the member in writing that we would not provide an estimate or be interested in the project given the circumstances noted above.

We have not decided where we are going to go with the project yet. They were very professional. I didn't have enough exposure to them to draw an opinion of them beyond that.

Mr. Schneider and his design assistant met with the member and his business partner for two plus hours. During the meeting the parties discussed remodeling the interiors of the members retail stores. SKD had prepared and showed the member novel/original concept drawings for the remodel. The member responded favorably to the concept designs and stated that they had neither seen nor though of the design approach SKD created. Mr. Schneider and his assistant believe that the initial consult was productive and appreciate the member stating that they "were very professional." To date the member has not requested additional information though several attempts (both e-mail and phone messages) to follow-up with the member have be initiated by both Mr. Schneider and his assistant. Additionally, SKD has not been hired/engaged by this member. SKD did not provide this member an estimate. Our estimates are provided in writing and no record can be found of an estimate being provided.
He designed our living room and we won an award recently with the St. Louis Home Magazine award. I would trust this man with my life. His price is always the same as or below other estimates. We always get 3 estimates and have never needed to go back to him and say that others were lower. He has basically re-done my entire house. He has done all my flooring and was able to find me a floor that doesn't even exist in St. Louis called Designer Vinyl. When people come into our home, they are in awe after seeing what he has done. If anyone ever needs a designer or contractor, he's always on time and his estimates are always true so there are never any surprises. The people that work for him I trust them in my house and with a key, even though most of the time I wasn't at the house when they were here. Every project was finished on time if not early, and David is by far the most anal, perfectionist, detailed-oriented person I have even known. Nothing ever goes unnoticed. He supervises the project from beginning to end. Also, the workers always had my house completely cleaned at the end of the day. This man is just unbelievable; he really listens to you as a client and its like he gets inside your head. My taste is very contemporary and its hard in St. Louis to find contemporary furniture, so everything he found for me was not even in St. Louis...so they were all shipped and delivered to me.

They were very friendly and very punctual. They asked me to do some research on the cost of products that I would be interested in. They were very nice. They gave me a generic quote for labor. It was the lower one of the two bids that we got.
Description of Work: We contacted Schneider Kennedy Design to get a quote to build a pantry in the kitchen.
