He, and Scott from Shelton Landscape & Maintenance, worked together to create a patio area beneath the deck he built for us (see review 9/11/2012) which incorporates a stamped concrete patio with landscaping. The concrete is beautiful and the flowers, shrubs, etc. finish the project. We now have twice the space to entertain and have received many compliments on his work. Thanks again Derrick and Scott.

+ -1 moreDerek was very straightforward, very helpful and very responsive during all of the many calls I had for estimates and questions. He was easy to get in touch with and came out multiple times to look at more issues I had with the front and back porch. The work was done well, exactly as we had discussed and the estimates were right on par with other reasonable estimates we received. The downfall is that the work was SLOW. Work was started about a month after the projected start date and took about 2 months in all to complete, when the work estimate was 2 weeks. Calls were not returned as quickly (or sometimes at all) as they had been during the estimate stage of the process. Often there would be no one out to our house to work, or they would only be there a couple of hours. The process seemed to take forever. The work was done over the winter months (since it was started a month late) so that could have had some effect, but still could have been done a lot quicker. That being said, there was a lot that could have gone wrong with the rebuild, since we had an existing structure to work with. We were expecting many extra "problems: and price increases and to end up at the top end of the estimate. Instead, all went well and we came in at the lowest end of the estimate with even some extra work done. The porch is beautiful and quality work. We would use them again. Just be ready to wait a long time for work to be done.
Description of Work: Built a new front porch with Azek decking to replace existing wrap-around porch. Poured footings to reinforce existing back porch piers.

Description of Work: I got a quote from Artistic Decks for my backyard remodeling project. They were very responsive to emails, and had some good ideas for the remodel. I ended up going with another company due to differences in the landscaping designs, but I wouldn't hesitate to use Artistic Decks in the future if another project presented itself.

+ -1 moreThe project took about a week from start to finish and it went well. It required removing posts supporting a roof over a portion of the deck and temporarily supporting the roof the entire time of the deck installation. There was also a short retaining wall that was installed along the longest side. The site was cleaned up very well after completion. I think because the company does good work it took about a month for them to start my project after we agreed upon the price and deck details; but I was advised at that time that it would be 4 to 6 weeks before they could start so they met their planned schedule that they provided to me.
Description of Work: Artistic Decks carefully and efficiently removed my old and decrepit 320 square foot cedar deck attached to my house and replaced it with a new deck making several improvements to the quality and long-term reliability of the construction. The location had some unknown conditions that had to be accessed after the old deck was removed and they did a very good job of adjusting the construction to fit those conditions without any additional charge.

The estimator seemed very knowledgeable. The kind of material that I want to use is not well known, so, I was impressed with that. He showed up when he said he was going to show up.

+ -1 moreI solicited bids from four contractors. Derrick at Artistic Decks was the only one to respond and he answered my phone call personally. Subsequent calls to him were always answered personally, no leaving messages or phone-tag. He took his time with myself and wife, answered all our questions patiently, and met us at the material supplier to choose decking materials. His advice was sound and much appreciated. He could have sold us some very expensive decking and accessories but showed us all viable options and explained that the most expensive items aren't always the best solution. He could have made extra money by selling us options and materials we really didn't need and i was impressed with his honesty. Derrick took care to make sure the deck layout and appearance was what we wanted and obtained the drawings and permits needed for the job. Based on past experiences with other contractors on different projects, this was a refreshing experience. He told us he would build us a beautiful deck, and he did! The work commenced when promised and was continued through to completion without delay, except for adverse weather conditions. The crew that built our deck, led by Scott, were outstanding. They were professional carpenters who obviously took pride in their work and it showed. Thanks to their skill and hard work, we now have a beautiful, solid, maintenance-free deck which, I'm sure, is the envy of our subdivision. We look forward to next spring when we will have Derrick back to complete our landscaping ideas for the area below our new deck. I have recommend Artistic Decks to family and friends without hesitation. Thanks again Derrick.

Description of Work: Tore down a very large cedar deck and stairs and put up a new one with composite.I had no complaints, other than I had to remind workers of some things once in awhile, but, that was fine.Several years before they replaced front porch pillars and fencing across the front, and some repair work around the garage door....very happy with that work also.

+ -1 moreWe were left stranded by another contractor (Conyers) and Artistic Decks came to the rescue. The previous contractor, who stole our money and ran, left us with a frame for a deck, since October, 2011. Derrick and his crew of Mark, Scott and Jerry came to the rescue. Almost every board for the deck frame, which the previous contractor installed, were installed incorrectly. The team of Artistic Decks had to reinstall those boards and than proceeded with the completion of the deck. I have the before and after pictures, if anyone cares to see them. If allowed, I will also post them. We now have a gorgeous deck and stairway, just in time for Easter brunch!! Thank you all at Artistic Decks who worked on our project....you all were a fantastic bunch of individuals to work on our deck.
Description of Work: All we can say is Derrick and his crew of Mark, Scott and Jerry were life savers. We had been scammed by Conyer's Construction and Artistic Decks came to the rescue. The crew came in and I believe the deck (30x20) was completed within 10 days. Awesome and very proffessional crew .

+ 1 moreWe had 5 contractors provide bids. Derek was by far the most inexpensive bid. He was very easy to work with and ensured that all our needs were met. His crew started and job on time and completed as promised. We absolutely love both porches but especially the front porch. It gave us the open look that we have always wanted. We were specifically interested in having a doggie door installed in the back porch door to allow our dog to enter and exit as he pleased. The door he had to order was a special order door from his local supplier. Derek spent a lot of extra time at the supplier having them get the door in a lot quicker that we were originally told. He was also able to get us a big discount on the door, saving lots of money. I would not hesitate at all to use Artistic Decks for any construction project.
Description of Work: Artistic Decks remodeled our front and back porches. Front porch: They demolished the stucco porch and steps as well. They raised the floor with a 2X4 structure and finished it off with composite decking so that we could walk straight out onto our new decked porch. The built the steps out of the same composite decking material. They installed vinyl posts and railing providing an open porch area. Back porch: They removed the front walls and pored a new concrete floor to extend the porch to the back of our house. They built a room extension onto the newly pored concrete proving a roughed in porch that I could finish myself. This included a roof extension.

His bid was substansially lower than the other comapny's bid, and this was even with using a superior product (composite vs. treated wood). He was able to point out suggestions and took our ideas and input into account during the process. Crew was at the house on schedule and finished the deck in the time promised. Excellent work, were very pleased with the outcome! Would definitely call Artistic Decks again for any future projects.

+ -1 more3 support posts needed to be replaced on our second story deck. The deck was leaning badly. All other quotes came back very high for just repairing a deck. Artistic Decks quote was the lowest and their ability to start the job was the quickest! The quality of their work was also top. Now our deck is nice and level.

+ -1 moreGreat! Derrick came out to speak with us, took our input as to what we wanted to do, and on the things we were unsure about, he gave us good suggestions. The crew did a great job, finished within the timeframe given to us (about a week), and cleaned up everything before they left. You'd think that would be a given, but we did have other work done on our house where the crew left trash, dirt piles, and even a broken hose reel after finishing their job. Derrick came by after the job to ensure that it was everything that we wanted. As I told him at that time, we will definitely contact him for any future work and also recommend his company to others.
Description of Work: Front landing/ deck built over the old cement stoop and steps that came with the house. Composite material for the deck, and vinyl railing.

Description of Work: Artistic Deck's Owner- Derrick, came out gave us a quote, we settled on the price and provided him 3,700.00 at that time. We didn't hear from him for 2 months, where he had promised us to start within 4 weeks. I had to call him to find out when he would begin the project. They started at 8 weeks, first they demolition my deck and neatly stacked all of the old wood/materials onto my cemented basement walkout area, then wood got delivered and it was stacked directly onto our grass, I asked Derrick, why the old deck was not removed immediately as promised, and he had no answers. I then asked him to move all the wood onto our cemented patio area. He just couldn't understand why I had a problem with 1,000 pound of wood sitting on my grass?? Then another 2 weeks go by and they begin to frame the deck, another week went by and the main floor and stairs were put in. I walked around the deck and found damaged spindles, trim just set in under the door and house, not secured, the old support beam not removed, the deck siding not lined up, and they had walked all over my plants and killed them. There are obvious gaps on both sides of the stairs where 2 pieces of composite are connected. There was so much excess cement my husband spent 3 hours with hammer and chisel trying to clean it up. I had to clean up after them and take their trash out. Within 2 weeks the composite presented with holes all over the entire deck. We contacted Derrick immediately- he refused to return our calls at least 5 times, by the time my husband got through he said he would come out and look- it has been 2 weeks and still nothing. We also have warped composite pieces, and the bottom rails on one side are sagging (warped). They used shims underneath the stairs, and they are falling out and we need to keep replacing them. I contacted the vendor of the composite wood and they sent out to me a claim form. This has been one of the WORST experiences I have ever had! They were so disrespectful of my property, and the end product was definitely not worth almost 13,000 dollars! I would not recommend them to anyone. I will end up with wages lost and lots of hassle-BUYER BEWARE!! ARTISTICE DECK DOES NOT BELONG ON ANGIES LIST!

+ 0 moreDerrick proposed some options for design and materials we had not considered. He spent a great deal of time with us. Scott, Josh and Jerry worked very hard even through a brutal heat wave. All the guys were extremely courteous and said more than once that their aim was that we would be happy with the finished project. The new porches look 100% better than the old ones. We are very pleased.
Description of Work: Tore down and replaced two large porches. Hauled away all debris and cleaned up work area. Also installed low voltage pathway lights on steps of new porches and replaced doorway threshold.

They were very professional, knew all the necessary city codes, arrived on time, cleaned up after themselves at the end of the day, and fixed a small issue we had right away. They even went above and beyond and wrapped a part of the old porch wood with vinyl so that it matched the new deck. I got bids from three companies, and their price was reasonable. The owner's name is Derrick Brumley.
Description of Work: They put an open deck in the back of my house. It has two levels, the first one is 6x10 and the second one 12x12. It's made of composite wood with vinyl railing and it doesn't have any special work that was done.

It took a little while to get the permit, but this was because we didn't have the information from the home seller we needed and had to go back to the builder. Derrick did a great job getting the deck built so we could enjoy a weekend with our parents on it! All of our neighbors have commented on how great it looks! The crew that built the deck was extremely professional, showed up bright and early every morning and worked all day with no breaks. Derrick was so great in the bid process. He really gave us great ideas on color selection and railing selection. We are so glad we went with the dekorator rails because it really adds so much! Any questions we had were immediately answered. We are so glad we went with Artistic Decks and would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a beautiful deck with a few great extras!
