It went so well, we didn't think twice about hiring Environmental Design again. Our first and only call was to Brian! Brian, due to his background and expertise at what he does, makes the process "enjoyable" and "care-free". Brian starts a project when he says he will and completes the project right on time. His estimating, layout and project planning and execution skills are excellent. Brian is also a very, very, very nice person to work with at all times. Same with his Team. No surprise they've been together for a long time. While placing boulders, the team is expert and very precise. They performed that task for both the front and back yard projects. They care for your existing yard, by placing plywood down while entering and exiting the property. They clean the site daily, to ensure you're well taken care of at all times. Plant selection (to ensure one will have color all year long) and layout/presentation of those plants is an excellent skill Brian and Environmental Design possess. "I can’t say enough about the level of professionalism, communication and quality of the work done by Debbie and her teams. We had at any point between one or two teams led by Alex working on our corner property project. They replaced a failing railroad tie retaining wall that covered three sides of our property, which reached 5’ in height in some areas. This required architectural considerations which Debbie handled perfectly. We looked at retaining wall bricks in person at a few different places, and also looked at stair replacements. We communicated with Debbie we wanted the wall even (so it doesn’t look wavy), as we’ve seen some uneven retaining walls walking around. They were paid a lot of attention to detail, and avoided it looking wavy, and made sure we had input all the way through the build. Additionally, they expanded our driveway to allow another car to park, fixed water creeping into my neighbors garage by fixing the grade and redirecting water away from property lines, and replaced our pitted stamped concrete path going up to our house with beautiful herringbone patterned bricks. Debbie also coordinated multiple contractors to manage in ground sprinkler modifications, ULV lighting additions, and replacing my old fence. They were very respectful of our property, and all the plants/gardens they worked around. Their work is top notch, and I would change nothing about my experience, it was exactly what we wanted. I’d use their services again without a doubt!"

The average cost of a gravel driveway is about $1.25 to $2 per square foot, including the cost of materials, equipment, and professional installation. For example, a 16-by-30-foot driveway costs about $1,500. Cost factors include the type of gravel, how thick the gravel is installed, the condition of the landscape, and labor costs. A gravel driveway should be at least 4 to 6 inches deep, depending on the soil it’s installed on. Softer soil that doesn’t drain well should have a deeper gravel driveway. Deeper gravel will mean you spend more on materials and labor, but you’ll get a more stable driveway and avoid damage that needs to be filled or graded flat again.
Because gravel moves, it requires different maintenance than asphalt or concrete. Here are a few maintenance tips for your gravel driveway. Every few years (or as often as needed):
Grade and level your driveway
Rake to fill holes and ruts
Compact any refilled potholes
Remove weeds with herbicide or by hand
Spray it with water to reduce the amount of dust kicked up

A gravel driveway should last for up to 100 years with proper upkeep, which is minimal. Maintaining a gravel driveway includes grading and adding fresh gravel to fill in potholes. Plowing in the winter can be challenging and the gravel can develop ruts or potholes that need to be repaired, but the cost and longevity of gravel compared to concrete, asphalt, and pavers makes gravel an economical option, especially for long and/or wide driveways.
