Dan's Fence

I've had an awful customer experience with Dan's Fence and would not recommend them. I've experienced terrible communication and customer service throughout this entire experience. The fence itself looks ok, aside from the fact that it is still not completed nearly a month after it was started. Installing a chain link fence should be fairly straight forward. I had Top Line fence out for an estimate as well, and wish I would have gone with them. The only reason I didn't is that it sounded like Dan's Fence could complete the job earlier than Top Line, which was very important to me the (joke is on me, I guess). After having Jeff come out for an estimate (twice) in early April, I placed a deposit and reserved my spot on the schedule. I received a call on April 17th saying that they were coming out the next morning to start the work. I wasn't anticipating this - I had less than 24 hours of notice and they needed me to be there when they arrived. Thankfully, I am flexible at work and was able to work from home that day to meet them. Originally, I was told by Jeff that 25% of the total was due up front and the rest was due at completion. Dan (the owner) showed up on the 18th saying he needed another 25%, so I obliged and wrote a check despite the miscommunication. The check was cashed that day. On 4/18, they dug the holes, poured the concrete and placed most of the poles (all except 3) and then left. I was told that I had the option to order custom welded gates that would help eliminate gaps under the gates caused by grades on the lawn. I agreed to this and was told it would take up to a week for the gates to be completed. The concrete also needed to cure and with the wet weather, it would also take about a week. After hearing nothing from them, I called and left a message on 4/25 asking for an update. They didn't return the call. I called back on 4/30 and left another message. This time Dan returned my call quickly and I expressed my frustration with his lack of communication. He made a lot of excuses about the weather and being busy. I understand he can't control the weather, but I felt there was no excuse for them not reaching out to give me an update. At this point, I had written checks totaling more than $1,600 and my patience was wearing thin. I was running late for a conference call, so I had to let him go. I didn't hear anything back until I called again on Monday, May 5th. I was able to reach Dan and he said his guys would be coming out that week and the fence would be completed by Thursday at the latest (May 8th). His guys showed up on Tuesday, May 6th and worked on the fence. They didn't bring enough chain link and the gates they had custom ordered came in the wrong size and the replacements weren't yet complete. The worker said they'd be back the next day to complete the job by finishing the last few feet of chain link and installing the two gates. He also promised he'd install a temporary They didn't show up the next day. Once again, I called Dan on Thursday morning and asked for an update. I received a return call from Jeff at 9:30pm Friday night saying the work would be completed on Monday. No one showed up on Monday and I didn't receive a phone call. I left a message and haven't yet heard back. Save yourself a terrible experience and don't hire Dan's Fence.

Very happy I went with Dan's Fence. Dan delivered and installed my fence on time, even though we had a week of heavy rain. Dan is a consummate professional who delivered on every request I made. Everything went as planned from the very first point of contact to the final installation of a gate that has to be specially made do to slope of my yard. All communication was professional and prompt. The workers were careful of my yard and the installation was professional. The gates were installed with precision and work very nicely. I'm very happy with the beginning of the project to the final payment. Highly recommended!

They're coming back Tuesday to put in the cement and posts and then finish the rest of the fence later in the week. It's gone very well so far. The first place we called, was going to charge us $300 for the temp fence and another $1377 for the permanent fence. Dan's got back to us and saved us $177, so we went with them. We may end up using them for a gate on our deck as well. They have emailed me a few times keeping me up-to-date on when they can install the posts once the ground thaws.

We carefully bid out this project. Dans did a very good job, at a good price. They did what they said they would do....when they said they were going to do it! Impressive!

Dan was very prompt in coming to our house to provide an estimate. He was extremely easy to work with and followed through on everything. He said the work would be done within two weeks. We didn't hear from him in that two week window, but just as we were about to call and check on things, he gave us a call and said they were ready to start. The crew came out in the morning and worked hard all day long. The whole project was finished by 6pm. Dan checked in to make sure we were happy with the project. We asked about a couple gaps on each end of the fence, and they filled them with an extra board without any hesitation. Very easy to work with, and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

The work was excellent and I am very happy with the fence. The only negative I have is there was really poor communication. The sales person that we initially worked with left the company and I had a change in the order and some of that information was not communicated correctly or was not acted up on. So when they came out, I was explaining to them what I really wanted and if I hadn't been here, it would have gone in incorrectly.

Dan (the owner) came out right away himself to give estimate, lower than all the competitors. Started job when we had discussed. They put posts in and a few days later came back to install the rest of the fence. I am quite a perfectionist and had some issues that I wanted to be addresses. Dan came out willingly, took a look at my concerns, gave me options to address them, and sent his guys over to make the needed adjustments. It looks great! I just wish they offered sealing and staining as an optional service at an additional fee. I would recommend Dan's Fence to anyone who is looking to have any type of fence installed. They were great to work with, friendly, clean, punctual, and very much worth the money!

I called for an estimate on privacy fencing. Dan said he did not go to the site to estimate. He takes footage and desired type of fencing and gets back with a phoned or Emailed estimate. He never called back.

Dan came out promptly for a estimate, and gave me one that was cheapest of competitors with consideration of price. It's being said if I recall Dans original estimate was for 11 gauge while competitors was for 9 gauge, after talking with Dan about this he gave us the 9 gauge for the original estimated price and ended up being the better deal. He highly recommended a land survey be completed before the job was to be done, not really keen on it since you could roughly tell where the property line was. But, in the end I'm glad the survey was completed to know specifically where the property line was, so I won't have to worry about having to move the fence down the road cause of property issues. Also I learned that their was a easement on my property that I wouldn't have known about. The crew came out and dug and cemented in the poles, returning approx a week later due to weather to hang and stretch the fence. They installed the fence exactly how I wanted it, even though my requests were not their normal work. IE hailing top of chain link even with the top support pole. Some scraps were left behind from the install, very minor note. I guess I can't expect the job to go completely perfectly.

Dan came out to meet with me regarding tearing down the old fence and replacing it with a new 6' cedar fence. He gave me options on the style and sent me estimates in a timely manner. My yard proved to have a couple of out of the ordinary circumstances and, thanks to Dan's insight and experience, he came up with workable solutions that were creative and did not change the price he quoted me. A few of the pickets had to be replaced by summer's end and Dan willingly came out and replaced them. Overall I was very satisfied with the price, the installation, and my continued relationship with Dan's Fence. I would and have recommended the company to anyone looking to install or replace a fence. I believe that Dan will continue to stand behind his work and his his price was far more reasonable than any of the other companies I received estimates from.

It was hard to get a response from Dan's fence on the bid for our job. I sent them everything they needed including pictures of the area to be fenced in, a rough diagram with measurements of the layout I was seeking and a detailed description of what I was looking for in terms of posts, gates and design. I had to send an e-mail inquiry to remind them to send the bid and when they returned the bid it was 25-40% over their competition, which was hard to believe. I was only seeking 60 linear feet of 6 foot high cedar fencing, so if they were not interested in the work, I would have rather known that than wasting my time chasing the bid. Overall, very disappointing.

The work and costs were agreed upon verbally. The work and payments generally went as planned. The owner agreed to provide us with a written description of the work perfomed and payment received for our records. More than a month later and despite several requests,we still have not received the documents. Although we are satisfied with the quality of the fence installation, we are a little put off by the lack of documentation as promised. If written proposals and work documentation are important to you, I recommend obtaining them before the job starts (old wisdom) from this provider.

Everything went very well! Dan's Fence was prompt in responding to us all the way through the process, from coming to give us an estimate to completing the project. We felt that Dan really listened to us when we described what we wanted the fence to look like, had good ideas to help us make final design decisions, and were more than willing to do the extra work it took to build the arbor. At one point, the crew stopped working because they weren't happy with the quality of the boards, and came back the next day to finish with new wood. They were all very professional on the jobsite, worked very hard while they were here, and always cleaned up at the end of the day! All of the workers were extremely polite and respectful, and we felt that they went above and beyond what was necessary to give us a fence that we (and they) were proud of! We are delighted with our fence!

We were looking to replace the section of fence on the street-side of our yard and as part of our gathering of estimates called Dan's Fence as I had seen a few of his fence's in our area and liked the work/design that I saw. He responded to the estimate request almost immediately and was out the next day and provided a very competitive bid for the work. I did the tear-out and removal of the old fence myself so the bid was just for new construction. Dan was very informed and was able answer to all of my questions I had in regards to the project. After accepting his bid Dan stayed in constant communication with me regarding schedule and timeframes. It was a very positive experience in that aspect (communication) compared to some other companies that I had dealt with. The work was split into 2 days, one for the post placement and the second for the fence itself. Dan's crew showed up on time both days and completed the work quickly and in a very professional manner. They were extremely nice when I came to check on the progress and worked very diligently to complete the fence even though on that day there were random rain storms that were impeding their progress. They stayed until 7:30pm that night to complete the job and we are very happy with the completed work. We've already recommended there work to some others that were in the market for a new fence. Overall we are extremely pleased with the work and overall experience we had with Dan's Fence and I recommend them without any hesitation.

I used them about 2 weeks ago to put up a fence and a gate. The stood out because they were so professional and prompt. I will use them again and I was very pleased with their service.

I contacted several companies, all found here on Angie's List for quotes on the job. Some were very quick to respond, some slow, and some didn't even bother getting back to me at all. Dan called within a day or so to set an appointment time. When Dan came to measure, I let him know that we were looking for a fence to keep in our two children and wanted to have one built with economy in mind. I found him quite personable and sincere without the and quot;salesman arroganceand quot; that I despise. He seemed like an honest guy looking to do honest work for an honest price - perfect. The things we were looking for in a fence: nice-looking reasonably-low maintenance value installation as quick as possible I thought I wanted a beveled post tops with a dado ring cut in them. One company had included in their quote those tops but did not include a bottom cedar rail without an up charge. Dan's quote originally included the bottom rail that we wanted but did not include a fancier post top. Caps can be quite expensive when you consider the number of posts that my fence has so that really wasn't a good option for us. I spoke with Dan to see what we could do and though he couldn't include the dado ringed top that I originally wanted, he suggested a simple beveled top that they would cut themselves at no extra charge. This was a perfect solution! I love the subtle way it dresses up the look of the unit! The crew came a week later on a Thursday to dig and set the fence posts. The two of them were very down-to-business and worked diligently to finish in less than a day. They cleaned all the dirt removed from the post holes and hauled away all the fence debris from the existing fence. Four days after that, the same guys came back with one extra to finish the job which took only one day. The crew was courteous and were very approachable whenever I wandered out to check on progress. i had a few very minor alteration suggestions for one of the gates that the crew happily accommodated. Dan stopped by while they were working to see things were satisfactory. The whole process was quite smooth and we're super-happy with the results. I would recommend Dan's Fence whole-heartedly.

I closed on my house on Oct. 31 so it was close to time for the ground to freeze. I knew I had little time to get the fence built but I needed it before I could move in. Dan's was the first of three companies to respond to my request for an estimate. He explained how he would do it and answered all my questions. He recommended a survey company as I indicated that I would need this before I could have the fence built (for my own peace of mind). The survey was done promptly and the fence was built as described. His estimate matched closely to two other companies I contacted. His workers were considerate and they also removed and disposed of old posts from an old fence that were left and could not be reused. I was pleased with the whole experience.

It was not the best experience. He was a very nice, personable guy who rectified all of the numerous issues during the course of the installation ranging from not coming when he said he would, leaving trash all over our yard to inferior wood products that we had to have them replace. Other issues included erroneous quotes and trying to charge us more. It probably took a couple of months to get the fence in. We agreed on a wood style and then he came out and put the wrong fence up so he had to take it down and put a whole new one in. It was a plethora of maladies. He felt bad about it but we wondered if it was just happening to us or does he do this with everybody? I will not use him again in the future.

Dan of Dan's Fence was was very helpful and accommodating with the construction of our fence. He always returned phone calls, and kept me up to date about the workers' schedule. He personally came out to check on the job. The cedar posts, and wood fencing are of are good quality, and the fence is well constructed, and looks great. My only complaint was of the cement work with the posts. A couple of the posts did not have cement come above grade level, and the workers ran out of cement the day they were putting in the fence posts. They had to finish filling a couple of holes with cement the day they put up the fence. Structurally, this should not be a problem, but they may wish to address this issue for future jobs. One of the reasons I chose Dan's fence was because they use screws, not nails, and they use only cement in the post hole,not a gravel base. They also have a 10 year warranty on workmanship, and their prices are competetive.

Great job done. The first day 5 guys came and put in the posts. They suggested a change in side location to better meet our needs and proceeded to cut down brush in wooded area to make it work (over and above- that was property owners job). Also repaired latch on existing fence - now closes much better. Wonderful service. Discount offered on web site but I did not even have to mention it- sales rep brought it up first. Would definitly hire again!

The job was done within the time frame Dan gave. I did not always know when his crew were going to be at the house, they just kind of showed up but did a great job.

It went really well. Dan was very responsive, answered quesitons, made good suggestions, dealt with permits, and was very quick and efficient with installation. Dan came out to give us an estimate shortly after we called him. He came by and was very competively priced. We went with him based upon references he provided as well as examples of his work (he gave us a number of addresses where he had installed various types of fencing, from chain link to wood privacy). All we wanted was chain link we were very pleased with the quality of work. Overall, it was a positive experience and I'd use him again.
