Dan's Fence

I called in the morning for an estimate. Dan came to the house to estimate and gave me a great price. The work was completed by the end of the day. I am extremely happy with the service and the price. I will definitely use them again and recommend to anyone.

Jeff came in with a very good bid. We were quite thrilled to get the fence in before winter. Larry is the installation manager and a real nice guy. Two guys tore our old fence down and put in cement posts in one day and built the new fence a week later. They were real nice guys and did a really nice job and we are very happy with the fence. I paid half down at the start and sent a check for the balance the day after the project was completed. I wanted a receipt and had to make 3 phone calls to get one sent to me. This spring I found lots of pieces of concrete on my yard and in the garden bed along the fence, not a real big deal, but there was also concrete that had been spattered on our brick patio. Again it took several calls to Larry to get him out here. He did come and got it all cleaned up so all ended well.

We were incredibly pleased with Dan's service and product. Estimate was provided in a timely, professional way. Great communication about when the fence could be installed (since the work is weather-dependent). They said we'd have a fence in April and we had one by April 6. They went to the trouble of calling us the night before we were scheduled to sign the work contract: we had chosen a fence design that we hadn't actually seen an example of and Dan wanted us to know it might look odd and we might not be happy with the results. Having the call the night before meant we could both discus the change without having to track each other down during the work day - very considerate. We adjusted our design based on this helpful feedback (the new design was even going to cost us less money). The work crew was extremely professional, communicative, and did an excellent job cleaning up at the end of each work day (we have a toddler who plays in the yard, so this was important to us). They did hit an electrical line and the irrigation system power from the house to the garage - both were unmarked because the city considers these "private" lines. So we needed to have both lines repaired. There was a weather delay between demo and construction (also to allow us to repair the electrical) but we got quick responses to all of our questions about timing and progress. Even the dumpster deliverer they contracted was courteous and worked really hard to squeeze the huge dumpster just so into our tricky South-Mpls. alley driveway. Most importantly: the finished fence is beautiful, exactly what we hoped for, and we are getting many compliments.

Dan's Fence installed a cedar fence in my backyard with a 6 foot privacy fence along 2 sides and a 4 foot open slat fence along the back lot line. The 2 styles look great together and the transition between the 2 heights was done very well. The installation crew was very professional and the work was done in less than 3 days from start to finish. I am very happy with the results.

What a great customer experience! I have to say that everyone at Dan's Fence, Dan, Larry, Jeff and his crew were wonderful. The day I called Dan he had an estimator over the same day. We discussed a few fence options that appealed to me and my wife and he provided us with a fair price/estimate. They were able to get to work the following week, despite being in the middle of the season. The crew came in and removed the old fence and put up the posts within hours. They were back a few days later and completed our fence. They worked fast and cleaned up after themselves. Our fence looks great. We were so happy that we were able to find Dan's Fence at Angie's List. They had several positive ratings and I can certainly see why. By the way, I had one of their competitor's out for an estimate before deciding on Dan's Fence. This particular company, Midwest Fence is widely known in the Twin Cities. The estimator took several weeks to come out to my home for an estimate. I almost fell out of my chair at the cost. Believe me, bigger is not always better. So if you are in need of getting a fence installed, look no further than Dan's Fence. You won't be sorry.

Meeting to discuss the fence was very easy and never felt pressured to do anything. We discussed all the options and landed on the black chain fence without any pressure to upsell. Overall, Dan's team was quick and very flexible. A misunderstanding with a neighbor required us to move the fence over a foot, and the team was happy to do it. Very nice group and would work with them again.

Called Dan and two of the big companies Monday morning after discovering my fence posts were both completely rotted. I was afraid I'd lose a portion of the fence if the wind blew. The two big companies both said an estimate in 2-3 working days. Dan said he could have a crew there that afternoon. His crew arrived a few hours later after giving me a confirmation call. Three men worked two hours and had the job done including replacing an extra lower board, (they had spare parts for the job on hand),cementing the posts and reattaching everything. The job wasn't absolutely perfect, two spots where the boards don't meet absolutely square but you'd have to be looking for it to find it. The next day one of the big companies did call to arrange someone to come out and look at the job and the Midwest company STILL hasn't even gotten back to me. They were the company I mistakenly had install the $11,000 fence in the first place. They did a horrible job BTW.

I first contacted Dan's Fence over a year ago and received an estimate from Jeff, the sales rep. And then we sat on it. Fast-forward to this year when I collected 3 bids for the same project. Dan's Fence came in very close to one of the other bids. The third was much higher. Jeff was very responsive. When he came over to do a re-bid for us (it had been a year!), he remembered having been at our house the previous year. Really nice guy. It took us a couple of months to call back and give them the go-ahead, but our fence was installed within a week of me calling. Admittedly, we got lucky and called as they were finishing up a few jobs. The crew came on a Tuesday morning to set the posts. They returned on Wednesday morning to complete the fence, and they were done by 5. The crew was really great - genial, nice guys who do solid work. The fence looks great. We had them install a 4-foot capped picket fence with pickets of alternating sizes and three gates. The concrete job on the posts is angled down so water shouldn't sit at the base of the posts. They constructed the fence to follow the contours of our yard. It's beautiful; we (and our dog) couldn't be happier. I would recommend Dan's to all of my friends and family.

Dan's lived up to its Angie's list "A." The bid was timely & competitive (2nd lowest of 4) and the job was done a couple of weeks before other estimates. Jeff, the estimator, was quick, attentive, and responsive. I roped in my neighbor and the front office handled it well. The installation crew, headed by Germ?n, was friendly and paid attention to detail. They went the extra mile on a few things, such as hauling away a bit of extra wood I generated related to fence landscaping or helping me with tips about my project. They stick to their bid. Only quibble is that in the demo they did not take out all the old cement footings - be sure you ask about that if you're demoing. But I got some much-needed exercise removing them later.

Dan's Fence is great!! My husband talked to Dan several times on the phone, and also dealt directly with the fence foreman and workers. They were friendly, professional, and worked with him to give us exactly what we wanted.. They have great attention to detail and their customer service is excellent. When we noticed one board that needed to be replaced, they responded promptly and replaced it right away. Our fence looks wonderful and we are very pleased with the customer service of Dan's Fence. I would highly recommend them!

Install within about 3 weeks of quote at busy time of year. Initial install date was delayed due to heavy rain, they came back a few days later. When they installed posts, they ran out of concrete, so they had to finish that when they installed the rest of the fence. Fence is overall fairly well constructed. However, there were a couple issues. First, i'm not thrilled with the footings on some of the posts. I'm not sure if it is because they ran out of concrete on the first day of the install, but some of the footings aren't well formed--meaning that several seem like they should have more concrete, and many aren't mounded and neatly growled. I'm not being overly critical on that aspect--if the footings aren't shaped so as to move water away from posts, it leads to earlier rot. Second, one of the gates was not built correctly and would not close completely. I called on a Monday and left a nice message indicating the problem. I did not specifically say i needed a response and said they could just send someone by. No response. That Friday I called again and left a much more direct message. I got a voicemail back but we never connected directly. The gate was adjusted within a few days. Overall, I would recommend Dan's Fence as their price is very good, and the product is good as well. However, it may take a little more of your time to make sure the job is done promptly and correctly.

I had Dan provide a quote for a fence for the yard at our new house. I tried to be fairly detailed in what I wanted and included a dimensioned drawing as the fence type was a bit unusual. Unfortunately we ended up needing a sump pump and drain tile which delayed our fence project by 2 years. When I reconnected with Dan's fence (speaking this time to Jeff, not Dan) to request an updated quote the price they provided was more than double per foot that of the original. I had expected an increase but a doubling was much more than expected. I inquired to the reason and asked if there was an particular detail that made it so expensive thinking there might be a way to get the price down to something reasonable. I was told that material and labor costs had gone up 50 and 30 percent respectively and the price was the price with no attempt to give alternate solutions. While the labor and materials cost would explain up to half of the price increase the only reason for the rest is that Dan's hadn't accurately put together the original quote. While I understand that 2 years is a lot of time and that the original quote wouldn't be valid any longer a 100% increase with no good reason and no effort to provide alternate solutions and an overall attitude that my request was an inconvenience shows a basic disregard for professional standards.

I highly recommend Dan's Fence. They were the quickest and first to respond to multiple email inquires I made with multiple companies. Someone was out to our house at a convenient time for us to assess the yard, measure, and give us a quote for the project. It's worth noting we had about 10 quotes, and Dan's Fence was 1 of only 2 companies that walked our entire yard, measured, and gave us a precise quote. We were given a couple different quotes for fences of different materials and heights, since we were undecided. We did take our time weighing all the options between different materials and companies. I will say that by the time we got back to Dan's Fence, it did take a little more time for them to get back to me... we had an odd financing situation they were trying to make work with us. However, once we committed to using them for our 900 ft fence, things moved quickly. We received an exact layout, contract, and quote for the final job. Dan followed up with us as to when they would be out to put up the fence. What impressed me most, was how quickly, and efficiently they completed the job. Between taking out old posts in our yard, digging new holes and setting the concrete, and then putting the fence up... it only took their 3 man team 3 separate days. It was perfect timing as we got early snow a week or 2 later. The cleanup in the yard could have been a bit better... lots of metal pieces were left through the yard and our old fence posts weren't put in one location like we requested. They were scattered in 3 different locations. However, overall, I recommend Dan's Fence. I have referred a couple different people to them who have fence projects in mind and will continue to. It went very well. The price matched the quote, and the crew was efficient and timely. They were able to get my fence done quite soon, which was a serious blessing, because we had an and quot;escape dogand quot; that was almost hit on the road because he kept getting out of our chain link fenced yard. Jeff Vance was trustworthy, and he seemed interested in helping us find ways to save costs, without compromising the quality of the fence. He is the kind of guy that I would trust in my house if I were not home. It's hard to find help that you feel comfortable with in this day of age. Also, their quote was about $700.00 less than the other companies I researched, and they were able to install the fence in a few days later, vs. weeks later. Highly recommended. Ask for Jeff!

Called Dan's Fence for an estimate and they were out the next day. Jeff, the estimator, was very prompt with all my emails of questions. Once I had all my questions answered and compared their prices with other companies, I hired Dan's Fence. Not only did his price beat all the others, but he was able to install the fence in less than a week of signing the agreement. The other companies could not guarantee installation by the end of the season. The fence was installed in about 6 hours and it looks great! We are so happy we went with Dan's and would definitely recommend them to others.

Dan helped to suggest the fence design, location and style. Dan recommended a surveyor and the option to obtain the permit ourselves. The crew installed the fence in a professional manner with little to no disruption to any of the surrounding property. Dan was on site to answer any questions we had. Excellent experience!! Update 9/18/2014: Dan and his crew uninstalled part of the fence when we decided to add a new garage this spring. When the garage was built Dan and his crew came back and re installed the fence in the new configuration. Dan is a very professional and responsive person! He answered all my emails and calls even though he was extremely busy. Dan found time to fit us into his busy schedule and get the work done quickly. We are VERY happy with the service we received and I would recommend Dan's Fence to everyone! Our fence is exactly what we wanted and has improved the property so much. Our neighbors are all jealous! :)

I contacted Dan's Fence and first spoke with Larry for the estimate. He also did the follow up and eventual set up of the project. Larry was professional, easy to work with and was easy to get a hold of via his cell phone. I appreciated that, as I was looking to have the project taken care of sooner rather than later and he was always available. He honored the price we agreed upon and delivered a good product. The fence they produced is exactly what I had in mind. It's a 6 foot high California style fence that now matches the other sections of the fence I had built in years past. Their employees were friendly and hard working. It took two days to complete the project. After day one they swept up the driveway and picked up the loose debris before they left leaving the property clean before their return visit. It was a solid job all around.

I had trouble getting enough companies to bid my project so that I could have 3 bids, as it was mid-season and most fence companies weren't returning calls because I guess they were booked for the season. But Dan's Fence was very prompt in returning my message, meeting with me, and getting me a quote on the spot. They were the most economical, but that didn't mean getting a cheapo product. The fence that they built for me is beautiful and substantial... a very high-quality product. Not only that, but they built it ridiculously quickly once the cement for the posts had cured. If I remember right, I think it was 3 days from setting the posts until finished fence. I've already recommended them to a neighbor and to another friend. I can't say enough good things about Dan's Fence Co and their product to do them justice.

From the first point of contact Dan's Fence was professional and punctual. They gave us an estimate that was fair and were not pushy when we told them we needed some time to decide. When we decided on a date to start construction the crew was there at 7am and got the posts up quickly. They came back a few days later and in less than one day completed the entire fence. The workmanship is top notch and high quality. I highly recommend Dan's Fence.

Excellent service and customer support. Dan's crew was prompt, courteous, and professional. They built a quality fence that I am very happy with. I only did three sides of my back yard at this time and will definitely call them when I am ready to do the fourth side.

Money became an issue for us and we decided not to have the fence installed. But the prices were competitive and Jeff the estimator, was nice and curtious. If we get one in the future I will give Dans Fence a call.

Dan's price was competitive, and included some nice features that the competitors didn't include. I have a huge back yard and they worked extremely well. The neighbors commented on how efficient his team was. I had a board that warped and he came out right away and replaced it. Nothing bad to say, he did a great job. Would highly recommend his company.

Things went very well, from the estimate through completion of the fence. They started sooner than they told me, which was great and the guys that came out answered all my questions and were very polite. I had received a lot of estimates and Dan's beat them all. Great price and product!

The fence looks great and went up on time and on budget. Dan and his employees were friendly and responsive. Jeff was the sales guy we worked with and he was very nice and knowledgable. Jeff , Dan and the crews all answered all of our questions, listened to what we wanted and made recommendations based on our yard, home and budget. They were easy to work with, delivered the fence on time - 3 weeks total from signing the contract with them to completion - and stayed on budget. We had 3 different bids for the project which ranged from $4,600 to $6,000 and Dan's Fence was the cheapest, however, it looks great, was built with high quality materials and is solid as a rock. Would definitely recommend and use again.
