I thought long and hard before writing this review. Mcquillan Bros did some things exceptionally well, and other things below par and I did not want to blow either side of that equation out of proportion. Here is my story of how they performed from first contact to the end of installation. First of all, the people in this company are great. Outgoing, friendly, and for the most part, knowledgeable. The company seems to be genuinely interested in keeping the customer happy, and to a certain degree, they do so. On Monday July 2nd, we called McQuillan Bros and asked if somebody would come and give us a quote for a new furnace, a new air conditioner, a new water heater, and a new water softener. The next day, Tuesday, July 3rd, Nathan showed up and was incredibly friendly and willing to work. He walked around our house and also checked our existing equipment. When he was finished we all sat down to discuss what we needed. I’ll say that he had his company presentation bullet-points down to a tee. At one point though, I had to tell him to lay off being ‘Mr. Salesman’ and just answer our questions without all the hype. After a while it was agreed on what we needed and what the price would be. We signed all the documents and he said they could install the unit on Thursday, July 5th. We were overjoyed that they also said they would bring a temporary portable air conditioner today to help cool our house until the work was finished! Nathan took photos of the windows in our house where we wanted the portable air conditioner’s exhaust to go. He said that he would send them in to the McQuillan Brothers office so that they would know what equipment to bring to our house to install the portable AC unit. Great idea! That afternoon the guy showed up with our portable air conditioner. Again a very friendly and outgoing person. He started to install the air conditioner and asked where the window was that we wanted the exhaust to go out. We showed him what we had shown Nathan and he said that he did not bring the right parts because he did not know what type of window it was going to be. What seemed to have happened was that Nathan neglected to send that information back to the office and therefore, the guy didn’t know what equipment/parts he needed to do the install. He actually had to leave and come back 2 separate times after his arrival in order to get everything he needed to do this right. On one trip he even stopped by Fleet Farm to purchase the necessary plastic tubing he needed. That was great, but it was also my first clue that McQuillan Bros may not have been as organized as they should be. We were told that the installation was to start on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. At 10:30 or so, no installers had yet arrived, so we called McQuillan Bros to find out what happened. They said that they had switched the install time to noon but had forgotten to call us and let us know of that change. This was the 2nd indication that they might not be well organized. Around noon, two Gentlemen showed up and began the installation. It seemed they were doing a great job and during the time they were installing our new equipment, John McQuillan himself stopped out to check on their work. He was great and answered all the questions I had. Again I have to say that the installation guys were great, outgoing, and personal, and, in this regard, McQuillan Bros HVAC was an absolute joy to work with. They told us that the water softener itself was still being built so they could not install it that same day. This was no problem for us at all. They also realized that they had not brought the correct filters for the furnace. Clue #3 that they were not well organized? (They said they would bring the correct filters out soon, and in a few days, they did) They finished the installation that Thursday around 8:30 p.m. and everything was working great. (sans water softener, of course) On Saturday morning we noticed that our air conditioning unit outside was clicking off and on about every 5 Seconds. This went on and on and of course, we felt something was wrong, so we called McQuillan Brothers and they asked if was OK to send a technician out on Monday. I told them we would like to see someone today and they did indeed send somebody out that same day. Impressive, but also the right thing to do in this case. The repair technician looked over and tested everything and said it was all working perfectly. Of course it was not doing the on and off clicking while he was here. He looked at our thermostat and found that we had set up a schedule for the temperature changes we wanted throughout the day. He said that that may be confusing the air conditioner so he deleted that schedule. Sunday night while we were sleeping we woke up to the sound of the AC unit clicking on and off again every 5 seconds or so, just like before. We called them the following day (Monday) and again they sent a technician out to inspect the unit. This technician spent several hours going through everything. The connection between the outside air conditioner and our house had frozen up and that seemed to be what was causing the air conditioner to do what they called “short cycle”. After several hours of work and testing the technician told me he thought he knew what the problem was.but first wanted to call the main office. He talked with Andy McQuillan and what they determined together is that they had installed the wrong size air conditioner for our home! What? At this point I was flabbergasted and the questions began flowing through my mind. Did the salesman order the wrong air conditioner for our home? He was the supposed expert! Was he trying to inflate his commission by selling us a more expensive air conditioner than we needed? Why didn’t the first repair guy they sent out on Saturday notice this flagrant error? At this point, I do not have the answers. But this did solidify in my mind that this company’s right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. This mistake was unconscionable. Yup! Clue #4 on the organizational problem with McQuillan Bros. This organizational problem was now becoming a pattern. They said they needed to replace the unit they had installed and sure enough, two days later (Wednesday) they came out and removed the air conditioning unit they initially installed and replaced it with a smaller unit. The first air conditioner that they had put in was a 3-ton unit. (Carrier #24ACC636) I guess that was more than we needed for our house. The second unit they put in was a 2-ton unit. (Carrier #24ACC624) After this fiasco I certainly wanted to do research on pricing and what we really needed for a central AC unit. But it seems as though finding air condition pricing, BTU output, and Seer ratings is a bit like trying to buy a new mattress. There are so many options even within the same model range that you don't know which is which. I know the exact model numbers of the two carrier units they have installed but it's very difficult to find basic pricing and specifications for each unit. I would assume that the 2-ton replacement unit would be less expensive than the 3-ton unit that they initially installed. But they have not yet offered any compensation for what now seems to me, an over-payment. So, all in all, what was to have been a single day installation, took an entire week. I will say that they did step up to the plate and get things re-installed in a timely fashion. And they did seem very concerned that we were having these problems. Also, everything seems to be working fine now and for the most part we are happy. It was just the confusion of the entire process that was disconcerting and stressful to a certain degree. When spending this kind of money, one would expect things to be done right the first time. Why did they install the wrong AC unit in the first place? This issue continues to baffle me. And because of that error the question becomes, “is everything now properly installed?” How about our furnace? Is that more furnace than we need? And there’s still the issue of price compensation for the smaller unit. I did post that I would not hire them again. And probably would not. But since, in the end, everything seems to be working correctly and they were very responsive in fixing their mistakes, I’m going to cautiously recommend them. I will post updates to this review as needed.

The call went exceptionally well. Terry was impressive in both his extensive knowledge of the options available for replacement across various price points and the features, advantages, and benefits of representative units. He kept my needs in mind throughout his call and I felt that I was choosing what was best for my situation rather than being sold a unit he favored. Terry is not only knowledgeable but courteous, respectful, customer-service oriented, and professional in all aspects of his service call and his demeanor in interacting with me. He worked quickly despite having to replumb the pipe configuration created for the previous installation and a different physically sized disposal unit being replaced. The new unit is working with no leaks or concerning noise that typically indicate excessive vibration or incorrect installation. I placed a service request on Angie’s list and McQuillan Brothers was the first vendor to respond, demonstrating to me that this company is on top of the marketing of its business. If I needed further proof of this company’s competence, it occurred when their technician/licensed plumber, Terry, showed up at my door. I’m hopeful that I won’t need plumbing help again anytime soon, but if I do, I’ll be calling McQuillan Brothers and specifically requesting Terry to help me out once more.

After a second reschedule due to McQuillon they did arrive as scheduled. Very respectful and polite. Worked efficiently, The reason for the B rating is that the faucet replacement seemed very expensive even after using a $100 coupon. When i used mcQuillon previously, i thought pricing was much more reasonable. Not sure I will use again due to cost.

McQuillen came out and diagnosed the issue with confidence after I had had another well regarded company out multiple times and spent many nervous hours trying to figure out the problem myself when they could not. Admittedly, we have a complicated radiator system. The weather was below zero and we were unable to maintain heat without constantly adding water to the system, which made me worry where all that water could possibly be going. McQuillen came out on short notice on a Friday afternoon, diagnosed the problem, and returned first thing Sat morning for a major fix. It wasn’t cheap, but I felt confident in their assessment and work, and grateful for their excellent customer service. I would definitely hire them again.

Came quickly after our call - some online chat was done as well, which made it even easier. Removed old faulty heater, updated some plumbing on our 1957 home. New 40- gal heater was installed, and all utilities were primed. They even fixed our faulty kitchen faucet! Very happy with the whole process! Dan also reminded us that we could find a coupon to assist with the cost, online.

Good. I started out with HVAC inspection. They wrote a long report on problems and did a show and tell so I could see them for myself. The technician did a soft sell on replacing the HVAC system and referred me to a sales manager for estimates and recommendations. The sales manager also helped me with finding discounts on service beyond just the Angie's list discount. Workers showed up a little before scheduled time and and arranged to call me a half hour before they finished so I could do other things while they worked. (I had moved out of the condo and was fixing it up for sale.) Everyone was hard working and professional. They forgot to install the new thermostat and I called the sales manager who helped me before purchase and he was just as helpful even though I had already paid. They sent someone to do the thermostat installation the next morning at no additional charge.

It took several visits to get the zone valve problem fixed, but we are up and running now. Everyone we dealt with was very polite and professional. One zone valve was replaced and then several days later another one needed replacing. They weren't working properly and another visit was needed. During that visit, we decided to perform a general maintenance and update of our entire hot water heating system. This included updated all 4 thermostats with new digital models, installing a zone valve control panel and a boiler cleaning.

i had all three replaced along with some duct work taken care of. they did a great job and its made quite the difference with how our house feels. they were great about coming in with the initial inspection and telling us our options. they came up with a few solutions for our needs and had a good window that worked with our schedule. we're taking advantage of their financial options and are almost paid off. i am having them come back to look at the heater in our green house and garage as well as have them possibly install additional spigots by my deck.

First time cleaning (costing more than twice what I've ever paid) lasted for a couple weeks, then same problem. After first cleaning they scheduled a camera man to come and inspect the line. He never showed. They apologized and promised a $50 reduction on price. After another phone call with another apology and verbal promise to take care if it, I have yet to receive anything. I sent an email which they have not responded to.

Not well. The fixture was missing a part, but the plumber failed to tell me this until he messed around with it all day trying to rig something. Once he couldn't, he was going to charge me for additional labor, which I contested with the shop. This was a very expensive install to begin with. It has already broken and I hired a different plumber to fix it for a fraction of the cost.

Excellent professional service. Before the water softener system, I'd get brown mineral stains on my dishes, white puffy residue on my drinking glasses and around my stainless steel sink. Not anymore. The tech explained why I was getting these water problems and offered different water softner system options. Tech explained benefits of each system and how long each system would last. I e used this company 2 other times for another house that I used to own. They now take care of my HVAC needs, furnace, AIr conditioner and all my plumbing needs/ emergencies. I can see why they've been around for over 100 years and still family owned.

I found them on Angie's List. They were everything Angie's List said about them. They were super. Right before Thanksgiving our boiler quit. They were punctual, they did what they said they were going to do. Their results were fabulous. We just love everything they did.

The plumber came out and inspected the area to be worked on and the job. A tub faucet is a rather straight forward install. He gave me an estimate of $1029. I told him the pricing seemed a little high and was not in line with what other plumbers charged for similar services. When I declined to have the work performed, the plumber became annoyed and asked me how much I was expecting to pay. He told me I got my information from the internet. However, I received a bid from another plumber that afternoon who charged by the hour. They told me that same job was a 2-3 hour job. I ended up paying $350 for the same job McQuillan quoted $1029 for. That is $500 an hour or 300% above what others charge.

They came on time. Put down mats to keep house clean. Explained everything in detail. Completed all projects in an amazingly short period of time. Diagnosed one problem as needing a much simpler fix than originally estimated, fixed it and adjusted charges to match fix. Provided directions for a job I can do on my own. They are worth every dollar for the kind of service experience that I had. The best experience I have had with a home repair project.
