Very well, although they are very pricey. Not sure if I would hire again. They did a good job and were very pleasant, but I would probably look for a less expensive option.

Horrible service .. scammers .. mostly trying to push you to buy more services… customer service is a joke and tells you “write those reviews”. Will never work with again or recommend to family/friends. I got a plumber come take a look at why water was not reaching the upper bathroom, he took pictures and told me he is 100% sure that I just need to plug in the working heating tape and water will start running. I follow instructions accurately and nothing works. I called again and they refused to check it out but rather suggested a $600 start up from $69 just over the phone. Customer service refused to allow me to speak with their manager. Just horrible, rude, highly unprofessional.
Description of Work: Accurate inspection and determination of what the problem really was. A solution not related to the problem was offered.

It went great! Very knowledgeable and provided me with great options for replacing my 17 yr old AC, 40yr old furnace and old water heater. We chose to install a tankless water heater and love it! They have stood behind there work and were quickly available when an inspector had some questions.

I scheduled a time for them to come to my house for a few electrical projects and they gave me a time frame of 4 hours of when they would arrive. After waiting for 1.5 hours, they called to reschedule because of an emergency. On the re-schedule date, I waited 4 hours just for them to call to cancel again because of another emergency. Instead of re-scheduling a second time, I canceled my appointment. I'm sure I can find a better business that won't waste my time

O stars is more like it. Angi's list has no business refering Mcquillan Bros. to anyone. What a RIP off!!!! My central AC unit would run, but would NOT blow cold air. Called Mcquillan Bros. to come out and check my AC unit. Both a Tech and Supervisor arrived. Tech removed panel on side of unit to access interior of unit. Tech removed parts from interior of unit to test. I believe one of the parts was a capacitor. He tested the capacitor and told me it was bad and needed to be replaced along with another part. He gave me 2 quotes, 2 different options, to fix the problem. He showed me 1 quote of about $570 to fix 2 items OR a second quote of $1370 to fix the 2 items AND clean the AC unit. REALLY!!!!! $800 additional dollars just to clean the unit. Didn't have a good feeling about these guys or the quotes, and told them to put the unit back together. Called another AC contractor, Reibel, to give me a second opinion. Didn't mention to Reibel that Mcquillan Bros. gave me a couple of quotes. The first thing Reibel did was to put a couple gauges on the unit to check the coolant. Sure enough, the AC unit was JUST low on R410 coolant. He also took a garden hose and cleaned the coils of the AC unit. 1 lb. of R410 coolant, cleaning the unit and service call totaled $398 opposed $1370 Mcquillan Bros. quote. Mcquillan Bros. NEVER checked for low coolant, told me a PERFECTLY GOOD capacitor was BAD and needed to be replaced, and wanted $800 to clean the AC unit. I almost feel offended by Mcquillan Bros. quotes to think I would be so easily taken advantage of. I normally don't write reviews, but in such an extreme case as this, I feel compelled to write a review so others are aware of the business practices of Mcquillan Bros.

Had McQuillan come out as I needed a toilet leak repaired and wax seal replaced, and they scheduled a full "free inspection." McQuillan Bros technician quoted $1500+ for the seal replacement and toilet rebuild, and claimed that he had detected a gas leak/gas activity in my basement but couldn't confirm if there was gas with the "soap bubble test" (but said he would have identified a gas leak if he had more access to my pipes, and said without bubbles from the soap test he "didn't need to shut me down"). Tried to sell me a $3300 full gas pipe replacement as they "couldn't guarantee" a repair of the allegedly leaking pipe. He also quoted an additional ~$10,000 in work to be done on my home plumbing. Called Xcel Energy about the gas, and they came out to check out the alleged leak. Found nothing after a thorough inspection of all pipework, including an underground probe. The Xcel guys also said that this was the second home this week who had been "diagnosed" with this issue and expensive proposed fix.

Unclogged kitchen sink. While unclogging it they broke the drain pipe going in the wall. They had to cut open the sheet rock to fix it. They used about 40$ worth of plastic plumbing parts and took them about 3 hours and they charged $1300!!!!! The very next day I noticed my bath tub didn’t drain. They came out to unclog it and told me it needed to be fix by upgrading it to the newest code. The tub drain went into the concrete and they said they would have to bust up the concrete to fix it. They quoted me $6000!!!! I called a friend who new a plumber and he came out and fixed it up to code for $400.

Oh, how I wish there were a grade lower than F. McQuillan managed to provide both poor customer service *and* bad technical work. The company came out to do a full replacement of our A/C unit and furnace, switching to minisplits and a boiler/radiator system. The minisplit side of the equation went just fine. The rest has been a disaster. This all started the first week of August, so they would have plenty of time to get the work done before winter...so we thought. Instead the installed the boiler incorrectly, causing it to make loud noises and not actually provide any hot water. After calling five times and having two missed appointments, they finally sent out a plumber who informed us that it was so badly screwed up, an entire crew would have to come out and fix it (which they eventually did, two whole weeks later). It took three people nine hours (!!) to fix whatever they did wrong. Now on to the radiators. Several were backordered to the first week of September, obviously not their fault. Once they called us to say the new radiators were ready for installation, they couldn't "fit us into their schedule" for three more weeks! When they did show up, we found one radiator completely missing, two ordered in the wrong finish, and several others that couldn't be installed because they didn't have the right parts and weren't sure how to get them (WHAT?). And, this is a minor issue compared to everything else, but they ask you to pay as you go, so every time someone shows up they want to collect money. Multiple times we've asked to see an itemized bill so we know what all our payments have gone to (this is a large job and we just want to keep track of everything), but we still have yet to see a single invoice or receipt of our payment. Which brings us to today. We're not currently on their schedule at all. Half of our radiators are installed, but none are active on the system, so we have no heat. It's early October, and the temperature tonight is supposed to reach 35 with a frost warning (which is one things for my husband and I, but we also have three kids under the age of 6). We've called multiple times the past two days and no one will call or email us back to tell us when we are actually going to have heat. I'm extremely close to reporting them to the BBB and calling a different company to finish the job so we can stay warm. I wouldn't wish McQuillan on my worst enemy.

Used them for emergency service when my furnace broke. Their temporary/emergency motor was undersized, and continuously caused my system to overheat and shut down. The next day they came back and put in a normal blower motor, but used the wrong capacitor/starter for the size of the motor, which meant I needed to get it replaced in a year after the excess power damaged it. Their techs visited my house, then went to a parts store, and then came back, so they should have had the ability to buy the right part. If they would've been up front with me that they couldn't repair my furnace with the parts on hand and would come back tomorrow, I would have appreciated the honesty. I was also fine with what transpired, until I had to get my blower motor replaced for the second time in two years. I wouldn't trust them to repair my furnace even under a non-emergency situation with what I know now.

Last fall as I prepared to deploy to the Middle East with the Minnesota National Guard, we decided to replace our boiler, so my wife wouldn’t have any added stress while I was gone. The opposite has occurred. After I left, the boiler and hot water system was installed in. That went fine though they left a big hole in the floor when they removed the old boiler. Shortly after the new boiler began having problems losing pressure and my wife smelled gas. When the pressure drops below a certain level the furnace shuts off, so the house gets cold and there is no hot water. McQuillan came out and looked at the system, determined that the expansion tank had failed and replaced it. They said the gas smell was just old pipes. Things worked for a bit, but then started losing pressure and shutting off again. McQuillan came out, added water and the system came back on. A week or so later, no pressure, no heat or hot water. McQuillan comes out and determines the expansion tank had failed again. It gets replaced, water added, the system is back on. They showed my wife how to add water to keep the pressure up In asking what was causing the problem, McQuillan kept telling us that its an old house, and you have leaky radiators. We looked. A couple of radiators had a little rust line from the valves, but no water and the pipes were dry when our carpenter touched them with a Kleenex to check for leaks or moisture. Through out the winter, this keeps happening with my wife having to regularly go down in the basement to add water. She keeps looking for any sign of water leaks around all the radiators and heating pipes. It is frustrating and stressful. In early March, after being gone for the weekend, she came home and the boiler was out and the house near freezing. McQuillan put in an automatic fill valve to add water whenever the pressure dropped. Still insisting that the pressure loss had to be leaky radiator valves. When I heard about this from my wife I asked if they had done a pressure test on the system to try to determine where the leak was occurring. McQuillan said no, that isn’t standard procedure. (Other boiler installers said it is the standard). We hadn’t been able to find any water leaks from any of the radiators or pipes we could see, so I didn’t want to keep pumping water in afraid that the leak might be hidden somewhere. So I had my wife turn it off unless she was going to be gone for more than a day. The pressure loss keeps happening. Also the gas smell is still there, so my wife called the gas company to come out and check. They found not one but two leaks in the gas connection creating a danger significant enough that the gas company immediately turned off our gas in the middle of the winter. At this point McQuillan had been out to the house 6-8 time and things were still not right. We tell them the systems isn’t working and they need to start over. McQuillan goes through the system again and fixes the gas leak. They determined that the expansion tank was actually too small for our system and replaced it with a bigger one. Soon again no pressure. Not being able to find any leaks throughout the house, but unable to account for the pressure loss, we start to consider replacing the valves that showed a little rust. But I wasn’t convinced that was the problem as we weren’t seeing any water. We continued to push to have them reinstall the system. After the tenth+ visit to the house, McQuillan arranged to have the local rep from the boiler manufacturer come out to look at the system. During this they finally decide to do a pressure test. When the boiler was isolated and a pressure test was done, it was discovered that there was a crack inside the boiler. This took no more than 45 minutes. The water leaking to create the pressure drop was running from the crack inside the boiler through the condensation hose to the laundry sink—which is why there was never any water on the floor. So at this point they replace the system and four radiator valves that showed some rust. We will see how this winter goes. Regardless of whether or not it is your standard protocol to pressure test at the time you install a boiler, about the second time you were called out because of a loss of pressure it would have been the prudent thing to do to determine what the actual problem was. Certainly it should have been done before installing the auto-fill device, which only masked the problem by adding more water whenever enough had leaked out somewhere. If there had been a hidden leak in the piping, all that continuous leaking could have led to significant damage. While they didn’t charge us to replace four radiator valves, because they didn’t pressure test the systems, we don’t know if the valves actually needed replacing. The value of replacing something that may or may not of needed replacing is speculative at best. As a result of all this, my wife had to miss multiple days of work dealing with all these issues that we should never have had to deal with, and were exactly what we were trying to avoid with having McQuillian install a new boiler. Instead, a complete nightmare at a time when my family was under intense stress already. We still have a hole in the floor.

The first team that came out to fix the issue was very punctual arriving before the time they stated. They were friendly and professional. The issue seemed fixed until I noticed the leak was still occurring, though I wasn't sure if it was the same issue or a new one from the same area. I called McQuillan Bros and they were able to send a plumber (Matt who happened to be one of the co-owners). Matt was vert apologetic the problem wasn't resolved the first time and was dedicated to ensure the issue was resolved. He tested everything and went above and beyond in fixing another minor leak in the bathroom. Matt was very genuine and friendly. I would recommend him and this company to anyone. The dedicated service and follow through is what saved this review!

Never in 1000 years would I ever hire McQuillian again. Realistically, freezing to death in a Minnesota winter is preferable to working with this company. I originally hired this company because I had three units in an apartment I own that were too cold. My request was very straight forward - I need these units to be a live-able, reasonable temperature. First off, they never showed up when they said they would. I had to call in EVERY MORNING FOR TWO WEEKS to ensure they showed up. Then, they would leave before they completed the work requested of them. They send out "comfort engineers" to perform "heat loss calculations" which is a complete joke - those people don't have a clue what they are doing. In one unit, they though the issue was the existing baseboard, so they replaced it; the heat issue didn't improve. Then they claimed it needed more baseboard so they installed more; the heat issue didn't improve. They also put a thermostat in this unit. Now - had they done any real work, they would have figured out that this loop was part of a run that heats the hallways in the building. They didn't do this work, and instead installed a thermostat which caused the rest of the hallways in the building to not call for heat, and causes the pipes to burst. This ended up costing me about $15k to repair the water damage and $5k to fix the heat issue. (The actual heat issue was that the run was simply too long, and the unit needed a dedicated run. My GC, who isn't even an HVAC specialist, figured that out on his own and the issue has been fixed). In another apartment unit, they thought the baseboard needed to be replaced so they replaced it, and then were dumbfounded when the heat didn't work. Eventually, when a tenant described to me what was happening, it was extremely obvious that the issue was simply that the thermostat (a $50 part) didn't work. I told McQuillian, they installed a new thermostat and guess what, THAT WAS THE ISSUE ALL ALONG. They also, for some reason, changed the programming on the boiler, which causes complete failure and total loss of heat for the entire building. I had to call in an emergency HVAC tech (from another company that actually knew what they were doing) in order to restore heat. I am currently drafting a law suit in order to recover money lost - do yourself a favor and HIRE SOMEONE ELSE. Literally anyone else - it's not possible for another company on the planet to be these incompetent. Positives: they have cool looking trucks / vans. Whoever painted them did a good job.

Not a decent company which you can trust. I enrolled their home care program during summer when our AC was broken, their only suggestion was to replace the AC because it's old. Later our friend helped us replacing one part and the AC was working fine. As our furnace was also old so I asked for their furnace safety check service, and nightmare started. The technician put a red tag to our furnace because there was a fine cracking which could leak CO and my husband was warned to not turning on the furnace, if turning on, we took our own responsibility. It's fine, it's 20-30F outside and we have a baby and elders in the house, also we installed several CO detectors so we have to turn on the furnace. Then we found the thermo stat lost the temp control, our furnace kept heating to near 80F unless we set up the temp to be 73. We called and complained and the company kept to claim that by law this furnace has to be shut down, and the solution they can provide is either fix it ($5000) or replace it ($7000). We were screwed-up by them after their visit, the problem is not the fine cracking, the problem is that the technician did not put back some wires in their correct positions and we lost the thermo stat control! At least our thermo stat should work as before if they did their job. How they do the business is to sell their units and trying hard to not fix it but to replace it. I am done with this company and if you have old units running perfect at home, stop calling this company to do any test, which they want is just big project not helping you solve your issues.

We hired them for a furnace tune-up. They called the morning of our appt and said they had people out sick and needed to reschedule, which we did. Then, the morning of our second appt they called and said they had people out sick again, and would not be able to come until the afternoon (our appt was for 7am). When they finally go to our house, they did the tune-up and that went fine. However, the Tech tried very hard to sell us all these extra services like their Maintenance Plus program, which costs several hundred dollars a year! He was not very happy when we said "NO" to all the other services he was selling. He had a hard time understanding that all we wanted from him was the tune-up. We will never call them again!

This was for my rental property. My appointment was on a Monday morning and they called Sunday night to reschedule. I told them it was very inconvenient because I already requested off work. They kept me on the calendar for the original appointment time but rushed through the install because he had another appointment. The work performed did not pass inspection from the city. They had to come out again to make about 5 corrections. It passed the second inspection. The office and installers were very friendly and courteous but the price was about 2-3x more than the other quotes. I chose them because they were able to get me on the calendar sooner.

He opened ceiling to look underneath floor and said iron cast had pinholes and needed replacement and had 4 levels of cost replacement from 1500 to 9000 and said probably would be level 2 replacement almost 3000 dollars. My gut was telling me scam so I cancelled and had another plumber come any there was no pinhole leaks and simply replace undersized pipe above floor and total cost was 174.00 dollars and plumber told me I was being scammed. The scam artist also kept the piece he cut out of my ceiling. We have used bathtub several times and it works great with no leaks. That individual should be ashamed of himself as most people can’t afford to be ripped off. Company should discipline this individual as he probably is a lone wolf and everybody else is honest and won’t scam customers.
