The cost was $5300.00. It went very well. There were two guys that came to install it. And then the salesman came also to check on them. It was quite the project. It was probably most of the day. They were very nice, very professional. I'm a flight attendant and I had to schedule it when I was home and they did tell me I had to call the city, my city to get a final inspection. And I totally forgot, and I got a letter from the city and with that scheduling problem I called them right away when I got the letter and tried to set up an appointment when I was home. We finally got it done. I was wondering why they didn't schedule the final inspection. I had another home and had a furnace put in and they scheduled the final inspection after the work was done while they were still there. I did have a little problem something wasn't hooked up right, some kind of electrical wasn't hooked up right. I called them and they came right back. They sent another electrical person out. And he took care of the problem right away.

I'm glad everything went well with the install. We typically don't set up the inspections with the cities. We leave that up to the homeowner and the inspectors knowing their own schedules and what works for them. I do apologize for the electrical error. I'm glad we were able to get out there right away and take care of that. We try our best to make sure our installs are done correctly and professionally. Please let us know if we can help with anything else. Thank you so much for using The Snelling Company. Enjoy your new heating system. Thank You

Response was great. Within an hour or so the technician arrived and immediately identified the problem. As my call was late in the day and I was asking for immediate service, I agreed to the $199 fee for making a service call after normal business hours. However, the technician replaced the furnace ignitor without mentioning the $180 price to me before making the replacement. I know I should also have been asking for the price ahead of time but I was focused on getting the furnace back into service before home temperatures dropped further than they already had. Later I found a new ignitor for this furnace to be widely available for $30 when I checked online. I feel that the technician should have mentioned the usurious charge for the ignitor to me before installing it. $180 for a $30 part is an exorbitant markup and is taking advantage of the situation. I would have thanked the technician for his $199 diagnosis and looked for more information on the replacement part price if I had been given the opportunity.

I'm sorry our technician did not quote the cost of the repair. We are all about upfront pricing. I'm not sure why this happened but they must have assumed you would want them to make the repair as it was an after hours call without heat. For that I apologize. We get this question often about parts being cheaper on the internet. I could change my breaks much cheaper if I bought the parts but I prefer to pay someone to do it for a number of reasons. There is an overhead cost having a service department that can quickly respond to customers 24 hours a day. The reason our price is different than the internet is our price is an installed price. For all this to happen we must have the correct part inventoried on our service trucks that will meet manufacture specs, have an experienced tech install the part, if the part fails or was miss diagnosed we will take care of it. Our service rates are very competitive and we use a standard flat rate HVAC pricing model. Again, I'm sorry we did not quote the repair price and we will make sure all our technicians understand the importance of why this needs to be done so we can avoid this confusion with other customer. Please feel free to call me if you would like to discuss further. Thanks, Chad Krinkie Snelling Company 651-646-7381

I have two significant concerns with Snelling. My primary concern with Snelling is their customer service. After the service was provided - 3 out of the 4 times that I contacted them - they did not respond. I contacted the technician that performed the work by phone on 11-04-16. He returned my call on 11-07. Because I was at work, I was unable to speak with him. When I called Snelling back on 11-08, 11-11 and 11-15, the receptionist said that I should speak to the service manager. She stated that she would leave a message for him to contact me. With my messages, I stated that I was contacting them because Snelling installed a part improperly. The service manager did not return any of my phone calls. This is especially concerning to me because the service manager, the person that I presume supervises all service technicians, chose not to respond to one of their customers. My second concern (and why I contacted Snelling after the service was performed) is that one of the two parts that their technician installed was installed incorrectly. Although the boiler works (and presently continues to work as of today's date), the part - a "dual valve intermittent pilot combination gas control" - was rotated by the technician 90 degrees from both how the original part was installed and how the original owner's manual illustrates it. I'm unsure why the Snelling technician chose to install it incorrectly. The attached image shows the boiler after Snelling performed the work. The gray part (upper middle) with the orange and white 'warning' sticker on it is the new part incorrectly installed by Snelling; rotated 90 degrees towards the heat source. The tan part with dark brown knob (lower middle) is the original part shown (uninstalled) in the correct orientation (as it was installed from the manufacturer and in the owner's manual). After I initially thought that the improper installation of the part didn't make any difference because the boiler works, I further assessed it. Because Snelling installed it improperly, both part of the plastic and the electronics on the part are now exposed to a temperature of 233F (because the sensitive part of the valve is now closer to the heat source). If the part had been installed correctly, the sensitive part of the valve would be at 99F. This is a substantial temperature difference. For comparison, water boils at 212F... a sensitive part of the valve is now above the temperature of boiling water while the boiler is in operation. Most of us realize that high temperatures reduce the life expectancy of sensitive electronics... if electronics are subjected to temperatures above which they are designed to be exposed to, it reduces their life expectancy. This applies to your car, your computer... anything that has sensitive electronic components. I believe that because the part was installed improperly, it will fail prematurely... I don't know when it will fail... only that it will not last as long because it was improperly installed by Snelling. In the interest of a complete and honest review, the Snelling technician was punctual and communicated well. This is the reason why Snelling received a 'D' rating from me instead of an 'F'. I also had a previous very positive experience with Snelling. Furthermore, I don't believe that Snelling installed the part knowing that it would fail prematurely. I do, however, fault them for intentionally installing the part incorrectly and - more importantly - choosing not to correct or respond to their mistake. All people, and therefore, all companies make mistakes. But, because Snelling both chose not to respond to or correct their mistake that they made on my boiler, I can not recommend them. I also plan to further encourage them to correct their mistake... this honest review is a reflection of that encouragement that will continue to occur.

[Member Name Removed], Our policy is not to install customer supplied parts. I'm not sure how this happened but it never should have. We install parts according to the installation instructions that come with them. I would be happy to reimburse the cost of installing the parts you supplied. I would recommend you call a Valliant Boiler dealer but I believe that manufacture was bought out many years ago so OEM parts are most likely not available. I can only guarantee a repair if we supply the part and it comes from a reputable manufacturer. I'm sorry our service manager did not make contact with you but this was three months ago so I can't get any specifics that far back. You can always contact me about any concerns you may have. Scott, the service technician, arrived promptly. I explained the situation to him and that this coil had a long history of frosting up because the refrigerant kept leaking out. He said he could not add any refrigerant because it was a violation of federal law and the only solution was to replace the whole system. Snelling had been adding refrigerant to this system for years, so what he said made no sense. He did some testing and cleaned the condenser coil unit. He wrote a note on the receipt that the system did not need refrigerant. The following days the coil continued to clog with frost, so I called Snelling again and asked them to send someone different. Dave, the service technician, arrived promptly. I explained the situation to him. He added a pound of refrigerant. After that, the system worked fine the rest of the summer.

Excellent. Professional, fast, good. They acted like they cared - and it wasn't an act. I talked to their on-call tech late on a Monday night who explained because of the cold snap and the demand there would be a premium rate. He also suggested I power down the furnace a few hours as a possible reset to get me through the high demand period. Reset didn't work, but I also called two other Angie's list providers whose late-night phone responses were not good at all. Left a voice message with Snelling Company later that night requesting service Tuesday and followed up with another call first thing during business hours. Becky answered and was already in the process of scheduling a tech and got Dave to my house before noon. Dave was everything I'd hoped for - experienced, thorough and professional. The furnace part was covered by Lennox warranty. I paid for the emergency trip, diagnostics and labor. Yes, $300 was spendy but when the house is 59 degrees, hey, we needed help. The Snelling Company will now be my first call for routine or emergency service.

We called Snelling for a second estimate on the replacement. The technician arrived promptly and provided the requested quote - BUT also told us that the existing unit was otherwise in good working condition and that we could refill the refrigerant for a fraction of the cost. While he couldn't guarantee that the source of the leak would resolved we really appreciated his advice. Went with the refill and it's worked fine since.

The boiler and liner installation passed all municipal codes and inspections. We used the biggest lift possible and also had to have the utility company out to temporarily remove lines. I hope the condensation issues are resolved on the interior of chimney walls but this may or may not be related to mechanical exhaust. At any rate you may rule out the mechanical exhaust going forward as all combustible exhaust is carried through the liner we installed.

We have the "infamous" Honeywell Pulse 21 furnace with a lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger. Except, Honeywell stopped making parts for the Pulse 21 so the "free" replacement of the heat exchanger means replacing the furnace at my expense minus a possible $500 discount (that may no longer be available). This also means that the original control unit is no longer available and a substitute model, the Baso BGN891-1, is used instead. In March of 2012, the furnace wasn't starting. The original control unit was replaced with a Baso BGN891-1 and a new flapper was installed. I was charged $378 for the control unit, $62.30 for the flapper, and $89 for the service call (the diagnostic fee). This November, we started experiencing failed starts where the heater didn't kick in when expected. Initially, the thermostat appeared to be the problem. It was replaced and the furnace seemed to function normally for a few days. Then it failed to kick in until it was powered off and back on from the main switch. Afterwards it most often started by itself, sometimes needing a few restart cycling attempts. Occasionally we needed to power off the main switch and back on to get ignition. During this time, Excel Energy was called due to occasional smell of gas outdoors. They determined that the restart cycling was purging gas through the exhaust and recommended a service call for the furnace. Snelling installed this furnace in 1993. I have enjoyed a good relationship with Snelling and trusted their advice. I even got to know and like the owner from events not related to his business. Since this purchase, Snelling replaced our AC unit and added an air exchanger. My parents have been long time customers and were a big reason that we went with Snelling. I have continued to use Snelling to service their home. With this service call, two issues troubled me that shattered my trust in Snelling. 1. After determining that we needed a new Baso control unit, the tech asked what I paid in 2012, which was $378. He then proceeded to charge me $378. I objected. Prior to this visit, I did some internet research into possible starting problems with the Pulse 21. I learned that many online retailers sold the Baso BGN891-1 for around $140-180, Amazon offered it for $134 + $5 shipping. I told the tech that I had a hard time paying $378 when Amazon offers it for $133. He replied "that's Snelling's price" and removed the new unit from the furnace. I got the sense that I offended him, but that wasn't my intent. I had thought that the tech would have called the office to see if they could offer a more competitive price. This is a plug-n-play module, extremely easy to replace. I didn't expect Snelling to match Amazon, but I did expect them to offer something less than $200. I was disappointed when no effort was made to come down in price. But, my trust in Snelling was shattered when I realized that they were willing to charge over twice the going rate for a part that I might have needed to keep the furnace running and my family warm. It appeared that Snelling was trying to fleece me when my furnace was out and it's below 40 degrees outside. It also appeared that I was fleeced in 2012 when I did pay $378 for this part. 2. I was quoted $97 dollar diagnostic fee for the service call. I was billed $97 plus $48.84 for MSC-NLR3-002D -- whatever this is. I should have questioned this item. No part was replaced. This visit was less than an hour. The tech did wipe the flapper clean, but this appeared to me to fall within the "diagnostic service" to determine what was wrong. Candidly, it was an awkward moment when I challenged the cost of the control unit and I really didn't want to challenge this item as well. I should have questioned it, but would have expected more clarity from Snelling techs regarding charges in addition to those quoted. Trust is very fragile and I must now question recommendations by Snelling. The new control unit from Amazon is in place. The furnace still recycles ignition attempts and I suspect that there is still an issue beyond the control unit. It may be time to consider a new furnace. For the first time, I am driven to explore other HVAC retailers. Sorry, Snelling.
Description of Work: Problem was that furnace sometimes failed to start and needed a few restart cycles to kick in. Service tech tested new Baso BGN891-1 control unit, cleaned flapper. Determined control unit was main issue. Suggested we might have crack in heat exchanger, but not critical to repair. Suggested that compression for the ignition may be low and might be leading to failed starts. Did not replace control unit because I refused to pay Snelling's $378 when it sells for $133 on Amazon.com.

Thank you for taking the time to write a comment on Angie’s List. There is a cost to having a technician drive to your home, diagnose the issue with your furnace, install a replacement part and check operation. No company can stay in business without a mark-up on the cost of parts and labor. We have been in business for over 80 years by providing homeowners prompt, courteous service at a fair price. We regret that you believe our prices are not reasonable.

From first contact to completion of the project was less than 2 weeks. I just had the inspections and everything was done properly. When they shut off the water where it came into the house, the pipe burst. They fixed that right away and when it was removed, we saw that it was nearly blocked. There was a small charge for this, which was reasonable. I am recommending them to all my neighbors.
Description of Work: Replaced old boiler, fixed all code violations including lining chimney, removing an old garbage burner, replacing old pipes, fixing improper connections to chimney, adding outside air intake. Also replaced thermostat and fixed a clogged/burst incoming water pipe.

The estimator Jon was wonderful. He answered all my questions and the price was better than other estimates we were provided by other companies. The company was providing an angies list discount and was going to send rebate information directly to xcelfor me. The only reason we did not go with the company, is that I found a company to repair, tune, seal, and clean my gas boiler and I did not have to replace it. If I ever do, I will be having this company do the install.
Description of Work: Have a estimate to replace our gas boiler.

I didn't end up hiring Snelling due basically to a slightly higher cost than the company I did hire.
Description of Work: Snelling provided a bid for the replacement of my furnace and central air condition units. Their sales rep was very knowledgeable and pleasant. I ended up hiring a different company basically because they were a little less expensive. Without that I would have hired Snelling.
