Sela Roofing & Remodeling

Roof looks great and they worked well with the insurance company. Waited for insurance company money and did not make me pay in advance. They took care of me as a repeat customer, but tended to get their wires crossed (poor communication between office people and field people). Also, the roofing foreman did not introduce himself even though I was home the whole time and did not keep up any communication as to when they would be there or not. This was in stark contrast to earlier experiences with them when there was much better communication.

We have not had this work done yet.

Horrible experience. The salesman was not out of his car 2 minutes when he declared that a brand new roof was needed. He didn't even get on the roof to inspect for damage. When I explained that our insurance adjusters had only found minor damage, he discounted them saying that all our neighbors have roofing contractor signs on their yards and that our roof must have been damaged, too. He did not even take into account the fact that our neighbors all had much older three tab shingles, and we have newer architectural shingles. He said that he would write up a bid from our original contract. Over a week later, I called to see if he had an estimate, and he had totally forgotten about it because they were so busy. In the meantime, I called 3 different roofers from Angie's list for evaluations and bids. All 3 said that the damage was minor, only warranting a few shingles being replaced, and that the roof wasn't in imminent need of repair. These other roofers should be commended for their honesty, as they weren't just trying to get a job and defraud the insurance company.

Prompt, even early, for appointment; thorough; helpful with insurance company. Still working with them on it.

Received several quotes for the repair of my roof, specifically the replacement of 4 vents and the valley. The SELA quote was, more or less, up to par with all the rest and they were the most responsive, at least during the quote time. They need to work on their scheduling department since, while I was undecided about the work, their sales representative gave me a call once a week to the point of being annoying. After I said yes and signed the agreement, I heard nothing from them for a month. I had to call to ask when they would schedule the job. The first time, their representative told me she would call right back, and 2 weeks later when I called again, she said she scheduled it for next week. Thank God their crew has nothing in common to their sales and scheduling people. They were polite, clean and fast; and the roof has passed several rains with no leak or problem.

I really liked their professionalism and attention to detail. They have very good customer service. They did a good job. The workers were friendly. They showed up on time and got the job done quickly. They also cleaned up after themselves.

They were very professional and fast. Whatever they said they did. There was something a little bit wrong with it and they came back out right away. They were very responsive, quick, but also expensive.

The experience was wonderful. They did the job within two days, and they cleaned up most of what fell from their work. They job was done well, and they covered everything that we talked about, and there weren't any surprises.

I received several estimates and decided to go with Sela. Two main reasons. First, Since I had already replaced one window and door, I wanted everything to match. Pricing was the second reason. I worked with David Itman on the order. He was very knowledgeable about the product and provided valuable help when deciding what style to get. We went with sliders where possible. Single windows were crank outs. The installation only took a couple of days. The installers did a fantastic job on the inside trim. All the miters were perfect.

An army of men showed up to do the tear off/install. The first day, all the old siding was removed. It took three days to complete the residing. The job went smoothly. They cleaned up the job site nicely each day and made sure everything was cleaned up proper when finished. They did a nice job. Looks super. I had windows installed at the same time (also through Sela). They coordinated the install of the siding and windows so that both were done at the same time.

Nightmare from the very beginning. To start with, the crew, none of whom spoke English, showed up about 5:00 on a Friday night. I was on my way out, and figured there was no need for me to be there anyway. The next morning, my yard was littered with beer bottles and vomit. The crew came back around 8:00 Saturday, and the first thing they did was clean up. They completed the roof quickly, and it looked good, but the next spring, I had to call Sela because I had shingles slipping. When that section was fixed, the guy told me that the roofing boards became loose when they pulled the old shingles, and they were not renailed. Since that time, Sela has been out to my house at least once every year (usually more) to replace missing shingles or fix slipping and buckling shingles. I'll give them credit, they stand by their 10 year labor warranty, but I know once the 10 year labor warranty expires, I'll need to get the house reroofed again. The two guys who come to fix the shingles are both great guys who seem like they really want to do a good job, but unfortunately, the initial work was so bad that all they can do is try and make repairs as things become noticeable.

They installed the roof in November and we were worried about it being late in the year and the cold weather and snow but they did a great job. The only problems we had were - lack of communication with the estimator. He had a tendency to forget what he told us that they would pay and we had a couple good arguments at the end of the job on what we should pay. Half of this was our problem because we trusted what he said, and should of got it in writing from him. We also were frustrated with the part of the company that did the gutters. They were suppose to call and discuss color and schedule the time to come. They just showed up one day and started installing. At least the color was what we wanted even though we never told them that. They just lucked out. My husband went out to talk to the person in charge of the project and he said that he would ring the doorbell when they were done so we could look it over and they just left. We have had a couple problems but they have been pretty good about coming back and fixing them.

Called Pella, Sela, and Minnesota Rosco. Their estimate was the low bid. Accepted bid since I was considering replacing all the windows all the windows in the house. Took future cost into consideration. Product used as Alside. Besides brochures, no other product samples were provided. Original start date estimate was for 4-6 weeks. Was actually about 8 weeks. Crew of two men did the install in one day. They did an excellent job and cleaned up everything when they were done. Was impressed with the quality of workmanship. They had to rebuild the bow window framing. Looks super.

The roof took the crew 7 days to complete and I never saw a supervisor on site. They neglected to place the pans along the central gable and we had water damage all summer along the gable prior to installation of the pans (pans were installed over 8 months after the roof). I heard it "raining" in the walls of our house and found that the inside of the attic roof was covered with ice that was melting. It melted down the internal and external walls and into the basement. A SELA representative came out and told us that the furnace vent had come apart in the attic. We found someone to connect the vent (SELA would not). The repair person indicated that the disconnection of the vent happened when the roof was being replaced. Deadly emissions had been pouring into out attic for a year. I have since taken a closer look at the roof and found over 30 exposed nails and many of the shingles are cracking. SELA has only offered to pay for some repainting of some internal walls.

THEY WERE VERY PLEASANT, DID A GREAT JOB CLEANING UP, AND EVEN USED MAGNETS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEIR WERE NO NAILS IN THE YARD OR DRIVEWAY. THEY CAME SEVERAL TIMES TO INSPECT THE ROOFING WORK, THIS IS A 30 YEAR ROOF, AND THEY ARE GREAT.

The estimator showed up for the meeting but did not do measurements or do more than generally talk about the product. I had asked to get a bid for James Hardie siding and maybe a comparative bid for vinyl. After two weeks and several calls I received a bid for vinyl. After I left another message I received a bid for Hardie which was incomplete.

Terribly. I made an initial report detailing a number of issues regarding poor workmanship and dishonest dealings. There are now holes in my roof where an inappropriate roofing material was used. I am pursuing the issue with Sela and hoping to have a more positive update.

We were very pleased by Sela's work & will continue to work with them.

The project was done in 2001 and it went poorly. The sheet metal roof has leaked continuously since it was installed. Inadequate provisions were made for run-off to the edges of the roof. There is a low spot near the center of the roof where expansion joints meet. Numerous attempts to re-build and re-solder the joints have all failed. A bucket to catch the water running down from the roof is a permanent fixture below in the garage. Sela has sent at least 3 different sub contractor or own employees to remedy the problem. Some improvement to poor run-off/slope problems have been made, but the main problem leak in the center of the roof is unresolved. Because there have have been so many unsuccessful attempt to repair by qualified worker, I believe the basic design is the root of the problem. The flaw is the sheet metal roof & soldered joints at the point of the low spot. Sela has been unresponsive to my requests to replace the entire roof & has been unable to stop the leak for 5 yr.

Salesman came to house to give an estimate and show us product samples. Was professional,courteous,and very knowledgeable. Estimate was high went with a different company.

I WAITED 8 HOURS FOR A RETURN CALL. MATERIALS & DUMPSTER ARRIVED A DAY EARLY. 3 CHEERS FOR ANGELA. SHE TRIED TO GET THINGS GOING FOR US.

They called me back in a day or so and scheduled the estimate about a week out. The representative was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Although we went with someone else, I would have them come out and give me estimates on future projects.

WE HAD A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH SELA. After the initial sale was made, all customer service disappeared. They were unresponsive to phone calls and messages and did not follow-through. There were at least 10 delays including ordering the skylights, actual installation, and ordering missing parts. Here is an example of our frustrating experience: After numerous delays, we finally had an installation date. The installer called to say he would arrive in 1 hour. After 1.5 hours passed, I called him and he said he was busy and would call to let us know when he'd arrive that day. That was the last we heard from him. A person from the main office called us that night and told us that the installer mysteriously disappeared and they couldn't find him. Two other installers were sent a week later. Here is another example: Once the missing parts arrived, they weren't checked by Sela and were delivered broken and had to be re-ordered. We do not recommend Sela.

Called to have someone come out to assess the situation. The soonest they could send someone was in two weeks. If I had waited for them to come out the damage would have been much worse.

They installed the roof, and said they would come back and install the attic vent. They didn't come back for months. After it was installed, we noticed water running down the wall, and went up to the attic and found icicles. They had separated the pipes running to and from the furnace to the roof vents. This caused carbon dioxide to fill our home, soot was all over the walls. They did agree to pay to fix the pipes. They would not pay to clean up the mess, pay for things that were ruined - such as the window coverings, and repaint the walls. I was forced to do the work myself (I'm a senior), and this has caused a lot of problems with my health and my husband's health, because he has emphysema. They should be responsible for cleaning up this mess, as they did take responsibility for the pipes not being connected correctly.
