Sela Roofing & Remodeling

Pat and the Sela construction experts met at my house with the insurance adjusters several times to make sure all hail damage was discovered and accounted for. They communicated with the insurance company submitting estimates and requesting insurance documents. Having been in the construction business myself many years ago, I can say that all of the work was done to my professional high quality standards.

Working with Dan from Sela was effortless. He coordinated the insurance claim for us, worked around our tree removal schedule, and helped us choose a roof color we really like. The roofers were competent, punctual, and very polite. The yard looked perfect when they left. This is our second experience working with Sela and we would highly recommend them.

The chimney had some age-related cracks that allowed a small leak and some staining around it in the living-room ceiling. I opted to rebuild the whole thing rather than try to patch up the cracks (a couple of bricks were loose too, so it seems prudent). Sela provided a good estimate that was very detailed, and spend time explaining the process and the work involved, which was helpful, as I didn't really know much about what goes into building a chimney. The job was done on time as scheduled. they completely cleaned up when they were finished, and no more leaks.

Sela Roofing was one of 4 bids I got to replace my old shingle roof. Their estimate was the most complete and the quoted price was reasonable (although it wasn't the lowest). I also got the feeling from the guy who did the estimate that he'd been doing this for a long time and knew what he was talking about. The project got done like clockwork: the evening before, a trailer appeared in front of the house, with all the equipment and materials; the crew arrived at around 7:30 and you could definitely tell it wasn't their first roofing job - they were done by 6PM and got started with the cleanup, which they came back to finish the next morning. Their lead guy was happy to answer any questions I had throughout the day, which made things much less stressful. There's a glass-roofed structure (greenhouse) attached to the house that I was worried about damaging, and a fairly extensively landscaped yard - both were treated with great care - nothing broken, nothing damaged, you couldn't even tell they were there the next day (other than for the new roof, which looks great!). The screens they installed over the gutters are working perfectly too - only the smallest seeds go through and those are quickly washed away with rain. My gutters have required zero maintenance since then.

The entire process was conducted flawlessly from the intial meeting and assessment with the SELA salesman to the final payment with the SELA business office. SELA did an excellent job working directly with our insurance and mortgage companies to ensure all the required paperwork was submitted and approved. On the job site, the SELA tradesmen performed their duties in a professional and respectful manner and left the job site as clean & neat as before the project began. Excellent job SELA!

Bidding, follow-up to the bid, question-answering, and price negotiation all went well - very professional and down right helpful (whether we ended up choosing Sela or not). Upon tear-off of old shingles, found that the decking all needed replacing (not Sela's fault - and it WAS obvious that they were not trying to replace something that did not need replacing - it was in pretty bad shape), but the price increased by $3,000 (ouch). Therefore it went from a one-day job, to a two day job, and our fear was that it would become a "slap it up there as fast as possible before we lose more profit" kind of job, as there were a ton of workers already onsite when the problem was found. Instead, they took their time on both days to do an excellent job, and especially when it came to some of the smaller details. That being said, there were two small places where the flashing needed a bit of paint to completely blend in, and when the Sela Rep came out for final inspection, we mentioned them (almost embarrassed to do so) and within two days a guy came out and touched the spots up. Based on our experience, I would absolutely recommend Sela.

Overall quite well. Some minor damage to railings. After siding was torn off, we had a lot of rain, down spouts should have been temporarily replaced when work was stopped for the day.

I requested an estimate to reroof our house. The shingles are in terrible shape and need to be replaced, and there is some leaking in one area that is likely not related to the poor shingles. I had to reschedule the estimate a couple of times due to conflicts, and the company was very accommodating to my needs. The salesman was punctual and professional, and the estimate was competitive with the others I received. I was comfortable with the company, and confident that they would do the work to my satisfaction.In the end I chose a different contractor who was just slightly lower in cost. But I would recommend at least getting a quote from this company.

They were to find a salutation to the issue and informed me on how I could fix the leak on my own. Which would save me about $500.00 to do myself. They did not charge me anything for the service call. They spent a lot of time with me on tips on how to improve my roof.

We needed a new roof, and I received Sela's information from my realtor. From the beginning, Sela was great to work with. They coordinated a time to meet at my property with my insurance company, and worked everything out without any hassle or disruption to me or my husband. My insurance company was going to cover the basic roof, but it was only a $300 up charge to get a better/nicer roof, which I found VERY reasonable. After we picked the color out, the roof was installed about a week later. The whole process only took about 2 weeks. During the process, it was easy to get a hold of someone for any questions. I would recommend Sela and use them again. *The $300 is reflective of the upgraded materials. Sela worked with our insurance company to have the cost of the entire roof replaced based on storm damage.*

Lousy Experience. (SEE attached Photos) I chose SELA because of brand recognition & the fact that they office in my neighborhood. Their price was up to 40% more expensive than other estimates I got, but I wanted a stellar product & installation & was willing to pay the premium pricing. The salesman convinced me what an awesome job they'd do.. It was all down hill from there.. The roof was completed in a day. I believe SELA was more concerned with completing the project in a day than they were with completing the project correctly. I had told the salesman that there was rotted underlayment at a few corners of the garage & house. He acknowledged that, telling me that repair work/carpentry was charged additionally by the hour. I understood & was in agreement.. When I returned from work later the day of installation, it was obvious to me that there was no carpentry work done to repair the rotted underlayment at the corners.. I called SELA, my salesman, who really seemed disinterested to chat with me. Then he told me there were photos of the roof torn off & that there was no rotted underlayment. HE LIED TO ME. I asked to see the photos, but there were no photos of the torn off roof, just photos after the ice & water shield had been layed down.. Next, a trouble-shooter employee, who's main job is to go around to various projects & try to satiate customers & get them to submit.. I was so p***** at this dude who kept telling me that my underlayment was okay AND that it was covered under a warranty. He wanted me to accept that my rotted wood was covered under a warranty to prevent me from pursuing the issue any further. He was useless.. Finally I got one of the head honchos out who admitted to the fact that the roofers did in fact roof over rotted underlayment. The crew came back out and spend another full day remedying the sloppy installation they did initially. I'm so so tired of contractors cutting corners & not taking responsibility for their actions. I would never use SELA again. All their work is done by Subs, not employees. SELA jacks up the price then delivers sub-standard results..

Communication was a problem from start to finish. The salesperson kept telling us everything would be taken care of but we had to badger them on every detail to get the work done. The roofing crew worked hard and did a good job but weren't told about the bathroom vents that needed to be installed, necessitating another visit to get them done. The crew that was to do some window re-wrapping never showed and we eventually cancelled that part of the job, opting for dented window wraps versus continued calls with no response. The crew that was to do the minor siding work clearly had no idea what they were expected to do until the showed up. We ended up going to the lumber yard and paying directly for the materials...twice so "they wouldn't have to go to Sela to get a check". Finally, the filing with insurance was terrible. At first they thought it was a cash job...once we clarified that, they said they would submit the additional costs and never did until we followed up a third time. We still haven't resolved all our issues due to the terrible response time from the Production Manager and others at Sela.

Their price was compatible with other bids we got. They did a good job.

We contacted Sela to give us an estimate on repairing a section of the foundation wall of our garage. We also asked them to give us an estimate for replacing the drywall in our garage. It has had damage from water, and moisture over the years. We also need vents in the roof soffits. Sela installed a new roof, soffits, fascia, gutters, and downspouts in 2007. They did not install the vents at that time, as we were told there were enough vents in the new roof to prevent major ice dams. We have had ice dams every year since, Now they told us the soffits need venting. The estimates never arrived. My husband called the gentleman who came to our home three different times. Each time he gave a different excuse as to why the estimate had not come, and It was on it's way. The last call was October 13th. My husband even told him that if they didn't want the job to just tell him, and we would call another company. Still nothing.

The price was what they said it would be. The time frame was what they said it would be. They got the job done fast and it looks great.

Work was high quality -- , appraisal/quote, scheduled and completed quickly, full cleanup. Only problem was communications -- there was a lack of coordination at their end -- messages left with one person didn't get to another, no one pre-verified with me about whether/when I was going to remove basketball hoop, etc. Nonetheless, I would use them again. I did not do comparison shopping; I rated their pricing as good, but I really don't know.

They were prompt and responded to the request. I have nothing bad to say about them; however, I did not select them as the contractor to do the work. I would consider contacting them again in the future.

They picked up all the nails on the ground and were able to complete the job in one day. I liked what they did with additional on the second floor which has an angle. They added rubber underneath the roof adequately and ran flashing under the siding.

Work crew was very professional, punctual, and worked hard. I was at home during the re-roofing, and had numerous occasions to observe the work being done, as well as the crew working. Sela needs to buy/make a better nail picker. They did go over the lawn several times with their current nail collector,but I still found 30+ nails. I had a few items that I wanted done/re-done, but that is because I am a picky person. Overall, they did a very good job.

Sella"s bid was 33% above the company we contracted for the project. This bid was for the exact same GAF roofing with the same 50 year warranty. Ronad F Voltin

The quote was for about $10,000. They were professional, courteous, and their pricing was attractive. I did not go with them because of what was said of them on the Angie's List website. I was about to go with them for siding, but then I saw better reviews of other companies, so I got other quotes. I would absolutely recommend them to others, though.

They did not arrive on the scheduled date. I called and had to argue with the representative to get them to schedule a new date to do the work. That date came, and was followed so quickly by snow that I couldn't see whether the work had been done. When spring arrived, I found that there was still no patch. They never did the work, and continue to send me bills.

I spent approximately $10000 on that service. Overall the job they did for me was pretty good. They were very professional. They came on one of the days when t it was totally pouring and they should not have come that day. It rained so bad that day that I got a lot of water in the attic. They did resolve the issue, but I don’t think it was as fair on my side as I would think. For all the work I had to do by going up there and bringing things to dry them out, I don’t think that it was fair. They were pretty much out of their mind to get up there on such a bad day. That was the only thing that went wrong, other than that I had no problems with the workers. The work was done and it looked beautiful. I decided to use them because of their name and they were very easy to contact. Once we contacted them, the person we spoke to was very professional and easy to talk to. He was also very prompt in returning calls. They were here when they said they would be. I probably would not use them again.

They did a good job. They replaced our roof and we had no problem with it. They were excellent workers. The one thing I didn’t like about them was that their entire crew did not speak English. I don’t mind having a non-English speaking crew, but I think there should be at least one person in the crew that you can converse with to talk about something you want. Overall, their work was fine. Their price was probably fair. I may include them in my list, but they are not someone that I would say that I am tied to.
