Sela Roofing & Remodeling

Job could not have gone better. Great salesman and crew. We had a deadline and every step of the way Sela did what they said. Job site was kept clean. They finished ahead of schedule and we could not be happier with the look of our house.

I was not happy with them. The problem is all these roofing companies hire Mexicans and they're all illegal. They did everything right. They took out a permit and did all that. It's a big company, they know what they're doing. You get this big orange envelope stuck to your door with the permit and everything in it and then when the work is done, the City comes and looks. There are supposed to be pictures in there that showed that proper work was done. The City came and looked at it. The City barely looked at it for two seconds and he signed off on it. Later, I was looking through the pictures and Sela had put the wrong pictures in there. They were not pictures of my house. I have a dark brown roof and the pictures of the roof with my permit was blue. I'm looking at these pictures going, "This isn't my house. This isn't my neighbor's house." So I called them and they searched and searched and searched for my pictures and they couldn't find my pictures. I said, "The City has signed off on this. He barely looked at the pictures. If he would have looked at the pictures properly he would have seen that it wasn't even my house. It was a blue roof in the pictures. My roof is brown." So, I was pretty unhappy with them about that. Several months went by and I had been calling them and talking to them. Finally, they had this new guy in the supervisor position. He called me and he said, "Well, what do you want us to do?" I said, "Well, I want my pictures and I want this signed off properly." He says, " We can't find your pictures. We don't even know where they are." The problem is, when this crew came out, they came out about 2:00 in the afternoon. What I found out is they get paid by the house. This is what they do, they hire these illegal people and they get paid by the house. They're not even paid hourly. They're not in a union. They had done a house in the morning, they came to my property, they sat there for an hour and ate their lunch, they didn't even start my house till probably like 2:30 or 3:00 in the afternoon. They delivered all the stuff the day before. They forgot my rain drip guard thing that goes on the side of the roof so the water runs down properly. That wasn't in there. This Mexican guy was telling me, "Well, you didn't order that. It's not in this package." I said, "I did order it." I'm trying to communicate with this Mexican guy. He is the only guy that speaks English and he speaks very broken English. He says, "Well you didn't order it." I said, "Yes I did," and I went in and got my contract. I said, "See here. It's in my contract. This is supposed to go on my house." He got really angry and really pissed and he had to drive from Bloomington to North Minneapolis, which is probably about a 30 minute drive in traffic, to go get this drippage. He had to go get it and come back. Meanwhile, I've got these four Mexicans on my roof that don't speak any English. They're tearing off my roof. Like I said, they didn't start till 2:30-3:00 in the afternoon. This was like I think late August or something and it was already starting to get dark at about 8 O'clock. So at 8 O' clock, they're still up there pounding and when this guy came back, as the time was getting later in the day, he said, "We might have to come back in the morning." I said, "Well that's fine." So they're up there hurrying. They finished my roof at about 8:30 and it was dark because they were trying to get my roof done because they get paid by the house and because they wanted to start a new house in the morning. There is really no quality there. I'm sure they did a good job because this is what they do. They come here to work and that's fine. But they don't pay these people. They're not legal, they're not unionized, they're not supervised. I'm sure they know how to put on a roof. That's not the issue. I'm sure my roof was put on properly. It's the whole thing. I told the salesman. I said, "Well, I really don't want a Mexican crew coming here because I know how this stuff worked." You can't communicate with them. It really irritated me. I wouldn't refer Sela to anyone.

The experience was very positive for Brookview Garden Homes in both phases of the construction. Most of the hard working crew members were the same in both years and they were ably supervised by the same talanted and thoughtful Sela Field Supervisor. Unit residents were not subjected to any unnecessary inconveniences and noticeable efforts were made by the Sela Workers and Suppliers to store materials in such a manner that residents could use their garages throughout the project. Additionally, the old roofing materials were hauled away by trailers, saving the Association's driveways and yards from dumpster damage. The work was completed effectively and expeditiously. The Sela Field Supervisor was in complete control of the job and managed the project in a calm and effective way. Residents marveled at the work ethics displayed by the crew members. One unit's residents expressed their appreciation to the Sela Workers by buying pizza and soda for the twenty plus crew members one day. Virtually everyone in the complex knew the Field Supervisor's first name by the second day of the construction. The Field Supervisor would continually go out of his way to maintain good relations with the residents. One weekend in 2015, he had his crew temporarily hook up a recently dismanteled satellite dish so a resident could watch the Belmont Horse Race and the third leg of the Tripple Crown that year. It was a pleasant business relationship with Sela, and the residents of the Brookview Garden Homes are happy with the results. The roofs look great!

If this is unclear, call the customer! They started billing me even though the job hadn't been done completely. The inspector agreed that there were code violations that hadn't been initially caught and agreed that the work hadn't been completed and that there's kind of a cave-in in the roof. I never heard back until I brought in the inspector for the permits. He was ticked off because they "fudged" the permits saying they were just replacing a portion of the roof and what they didn't put on the permit was that there was construction work that needed to be done inside the garage. The city inspector met with the salesmen and the insurance adjuster from State Farm and agreed that there was still work that had to be done and the insurance company authorized more money for additional work to be done to correct the code violations. I heard that the work would be continued. Sela told me that the work was about three weeks out and I was shocked that I wasn't at the front of the list since they'd already started the job all the way back in July. Now their salesman won't return my calls and it's been about six weeks. The last time I saw them was August of this year when two of their men left for the day and leaving work unfinished. They also left materials including their ladder and dumpster and it took several calls to the company the dumpster was removed.

Sela was the best value and provided us with great service. They visited our home and provided us with the lowest estimate for new siding. There were no hidden costs or fees. The work was completed quickly and looks great. All inspections and permits were handled by Sela. Cleanup was thorough and we have not found any debris left behind. All questions/issues were resolved quickly and to our satisfaction. We would recommend Sela for siding projects.

Sela did an excellent job replacing our roof after a hail storm. Their crew was quick and professional. We have two small children and I didn't find a single nail on our driveway or property. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Sela Roofing and Remodeling provided excellent Service. It was done in a timely manner and I am pleased with results. They use top quality materials. They replaced with nice Architecural style shingles. They did well with clean up and assured it was done right. Excellent Customer Service. I would refer and use there services again.

By far the best experience I've ever had with a contractor hands down. They were fast, punctual, they handled all of the permit process, took pictures and have me samples to send in for my warranty claim, there was not a single scrap or nail left when they finished, and it looks great. Just outstanding service from the first call I made to them all the way through to billing. Highest recommendations!

Original installation was in 2003; windows came with lifetime warranty. Lower-end windows, installation mediocre. One of the windows malfunctioned and needed a small part replaced. I repeatedly reached out to Sela for assistance. Was repeatedly sent to voicemail -- with no returned calls. Finally made a fuss and was put in touch with someone who did call back. I provided all relevant information as requested. Then back into the black hole of no answers, unreturned emails, unreturned calls. I've finally reached out to the manufacturer and asked them to intervene. I should note that since this time our group has replaced a total of 56 additional windows, all of which were done with a more reliable vendor.

It went well, We had one rain day and they were promplty there the next. All work was completed as promised and the cleanup was especially remarkable. We have a large, steep roof and it would have been a nightmare to do but Sela did it well!! We were very satisfied.

FROM THE FIRST PHONE CALL WE HAD EXCELLENT RESPONSE TIME. FROM THAT POINT ON EVERY ONE FROM THE ESTIMATORS TO THE PLANNERS AND THE ROOFERS WE HAD FAST RESPONSE, EXCELLENT WORKMANSHIP AND EFFICIENT CLEAN UP. THE COST WAS LESS THAN WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE AND THE RESULT WAS TOP NOTCH

once I was on the books the chimney started first, the guys were very professional, entire chimney taken down and rebuild was done in a day.The old chimney never matched the brick on the front of the house but it does now ,they came out with bricks for me to choose from. The next day out came the roofers and tore off the old roof and then did the entire roof taking care not to damage my shrubs or flowers. a few days later the Selas gutter people came out and I picked out the color to be used. the order was placed and within a week and a half the leaf x and downspouts were up. Neighbors commented on how the house" popped"with the new work. If you can call a roof beautiful ,it is I am truly happy with the work, the contract, the warranty, and the company they did a stellar job. also the clean up was great almost like they had never been here :)

Called Sela to see if we had damage after several storms!! They came out right away, they came back and met with our insurance adjuster. They educated us on shingles and helped us decide on skylights. They gave us options of dates and the crew who did the roof and skylights worked so hard and fast!! They cleaned up immediately and inspected our yard with a metal detector..we love our new roof.

Tom was great! Very responsive, willing to go the extra mile. Courteous and pleasant to have around.

Perfect. No hitches. No problems. I had a lower bid but went with SELA due to difficulty of the work and their good name and reputation. Glad I did. (As an aside, when city inspector came out to inspect the job for closing the permit, he indicated he would have made the same decision to use SELA, based on his experiences.)

The roof I got has been recalled and I'm about to call them to see what they recommend if anything. The shingles were made of a certain material that didn't hold up. I had someone else to look at my roof and they told me that there was a big class action lawsuit about the shingles being effective.

Bill came out to give me an estimate on new siding for my house. The quote was on the high side (the highest of three bids) and I ended up deciding to have the house repainted instead of having the siding replaced. If we decided to go with new siding, I would have at least considered Sela though the price may have been the final determining factor. The only trip-ups were in communication. I had an appointment that came and went without communication (I left 3 or 4 voicemails that night as I waited and got no callback) so I blew an evening waiting around for nothing. When I called back the next day again to let them know of the missed appointment and reschedule, the scheduling person didn't get my message until the next day so I missed another day there. After some further conversations, I accepted that it was an honest mistake with a lost email.

SELA came in at a great price and proceeded to put on a beautiful roof. They attended to every little need my wife would bug them about and they were patient and professional. There were some minor issues to attend to and SELA was prompt! They fixed them and also some minor landscape issues as well. Could not have been more pleased with their sincere consideration to their customer. Just because they are a fairly large operation in no way reflects their lack of concern for each of their customers. If their price is similar to another bidder, go with SELA.

We are very satisfied with the work performed. New wood shingles look great and well done. The crew also repaired 4 areas on the roof and fascia that had been improperly installed or had been damaged over the years. The repaired areas look great. We did not have any issues with the project being completed in a timely or professional manner. We have recommended using the same crew and SELA to our neighbors.

Sela worked very closely with me and my insurance company to make sure the scope of my project was agreed on prior to starting. The workers were professional and contacted me during the work with concerns they had while working on my roof to see if I wanted them to fix the other issues they found. they also coordinated with my insurance to get my deprecation check within a week of the work being completed. I will have Sela do any future roofing or remodeling needs I may have

They were prompt from when I placed the first phone call to the last day. Start to finish about 3 weeks. Quality was as expected and the entire staff was a pleasure to deal with.

They did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it, and with no additional cost! Even more, Pat, our salesman, noticed that we had shingles that had been the subject of a class action lawsuit, and he helped us to get some additional money from that. Nobody else who gave us an estimate noticed that. An all-around great experience!

I hired Sela Roofing and Gutter Connection to install a roof saddle including stucco replacement, to install new gutters, downspouts and leaf guards. The service, communication, planning, execution and clean up were all below expectations. I hired them because I had heard the brand before and thought they had a good reputation; i t was a frustrating and disappointing experience. These are the main reasons for my poor rating of Sela roofing and gutter connection: Poor Communication: -I was told by the salesman the installation sequence was to finish the roof saddle and stucco, install the gutters, downspouts and guards. -Before the roof saddle and stucco was complete, I received a call that the gutters were going to be installed. I asked for clarification and received no follow-up. -While the stucco was in progress, I received a call from the Sela salesman that the wrong stucco vendor was at my house; he asked me if I had scheduled the stucco vendor on my own. I communicated that I had nothing to do with scheduling and expected this to be resolved right away. It took another 2 weeks for the stucco to be completed. In addition, the gutter project manager told me he was frustrated with my communications with sales. -After the stucco was completed and before the gutters were installed (after many calls gaining clarification of the expected gutter install date), I received a call from a different project manager stating the project was complete. I had to explain to the manager the project was only partially complete. She did some research then acknowledged she was wrong and the gutters, downspouts and guards still needed to be installed. Poor planning: - It took another 2+ weeks to complete the stucco job, which they left scaffolding and sharp materials sitting in the front of my house with little communication of the expected completion date. - The gutter installation was partially completed when the Sela gutter installer communicated he was almost done with the project. My wife asked him if he was going to install the leaf guards upon completing the last part of the project. The installer said he had no documentation on installing guards.After looking into it, he acknowledged that the order got lost and had to come back later to install the guards. - I asked the salesman to verify if he had submitted the order. He said he did and was frustrated with the process. Poor execution and clean up: - I was very concerned when the ?wrong? stucco contractors left my house leaving disconnected downspouts and an exposed hole in my wall since it was expected to rain that evening. I called to clarify timing and expressed concern for these open items. I received a call back from the gutter project manager stating it was my fault that his team had been rescheduled. He eventually came by to reconnect the disconnected downspouts. It took many days for the stucco contractors to fill the gaps in the wall. - After the gutters, downspouts and guards were installed, I found a leak in a gutter. I called and they sent someone out 2 days later. It rained again and found another leak. They sent someone out again to fix the leak. I did not receive follow-up communication when the leaks were repaired (and I don?t know if they are repaired yet). - They left debris, sharp nails, screws, and leftover materials all over the exterior of my house. I communicated numerous times to ask them to clean up. I explained that this was unacceptable as I constantly have children in my yard and a 2 year old that would put anything in his mouth. Their response was they would pick up the materials after the project was complete (after 5 weeks). 2-3 days after my final call they sent someone out to pick up the nails, but by that time my wife and I ended up clearing most of the items for safety reasons. Overall this was a bad experience and would not recommend Sela for these services.

Roofers were polite, efficient, and neat. The project was on time and there were no unexpected costs. At the end of the project, I had some minor cosmetic concerns, and Sela sent a representative out promptly to address these. Overall, I was happy with Sela as the contractor. The roof looks great.
