Got three estimates and Ron's was the lowest and I had used them before. The work was done when they said and they came back promptly to correct a minor problem. Third time I've used them all satisfactory experiences.

we contacted Ron's Mechanical initially to get quotes on upgrading our AC to a larger more efficient model. The first meeting was right on time. Greg was friendly and knowledgable. He inspected our furnace and AC and offered some free advice on getting better cooling (like adjusting the flow from one side of the house to the other and closing doors to prevent cool air from 'falling' down the stairs). He was also honest about what an upgrade would likely do for us. Not much. His recommendation was to first clean and seal the ducts because the AC looked to be in good working order and correctly sized for our house. He provided an estimate for cleaning and sealing and also a new cooling unit. Over the next weeks I met with another contractor who was also nice, but seemed a little more eager to sell an upgrade. He made no recommendation of cleaning/sealing the ducts. His sizing calculations were the same as from Greg though. We choose to just clean and seal the ducts. They were separate crews who each showed up at the times specified and got the job done quickly. My wife was home for the work and was very comfortable with each crew. The sealing crew measured the air flow and repaired some cracks in the ducts. They were able to show a huge improvement in air flow in the returns and main ducts. We did not really notice a lot better cooling performance, but that was what Greg predicted. One thing I did notice was that the furnace filter was much cleaner. Usually it was completely dirty after a month despite being '3-month' filters. The first time I changed the filter a month after the cleaning, it was hardly dusty. The cleaning was certainly a good thing. The bill was mailed promptly and matched the estimate exactly.
Description of Work: We had duct cleaning and sealing performed by the company.

We pay a regular service fee each year. the Technician checked Freon level, ran the AC, set the air exchanger for summer and changed the filter. He showed me the filter and told me both units are in good shape for their +15 year age. As I know they may need changing in the next 3 years, I asked a replacement / best value replacement cost and he gave me a fair estimate with the pros and cons of more modern equipment. We will keep using Ron's Mechanical.
Description of Work: Use Ron's Mechanical for regular service of Heating and AC. Really like these guys - honest good service.

Response from Ron's Mechanical Inc
I am unsure if this customer has our company mixedup with another company. We have no record of doing business with him all the way back to 1982 and we have no record of him contacting us by name, address or phone number. I have called this customer with no response to see if he was mistaking us for another company. Prior Lake is 10 miles away and have a huge customer base in that area. On any given day we may have multiple techs in his area so not sure why we would even need to call him back. We do have certain areas that we are not frequent to that are 50+ miles away that we are not continuelly in so we do suggest bunching them up for maintenace calls to simply save the customers in that area some money.

Technicians John and Joe arrived around 10:00 A.M. and setup to do the AeroSealing. They put down floor covering on all of the areas that would require foot traffic. Joe went through the house and sealed all of the return duct openings and all of the supply duct openings with special foam plugs. John ran rests on the Return Ductwork which showed a leakage of 349 CFM, equivalent to a 66 square-inch hole in the return ducts. After the AeroSeal, this leakage was reduced to 2 CFM leakage or a less than a .25 square-inch hole in the return ducts. The test on the supply ductwork showed a leakage of 278 CFM, equivalent to a 53 square inch hole in the supply ducts. After the AeroSealing, this leakage was reduced to 2 CFM leakage, again less than a .25 square-inch hole in the supply ducts. After the sealing, Joe removed the seals from all of the return duct openings and replaced the grill covers and removed the seals from the supply ducts, replacing the vent covers. They vacuumed up any debris that had gotten on the floors while working, packed up their equipment and were on their way by 4:00 P.M. If you had not known they had been working in the house, you wouldn't have known they had been there. I have noticed much better flow from the supply vents in the ceiling and floor and can tell that the return vents are doing a better job of pulling air back through the system. The AeroSealing should vastly improve the efficiency of both the heating and air conditioning of the house as well as better dust control.
Description of Work: We had all of our Heating/AC Ductwork AeroSealed. This is a special treatment designed to seal the supply and return ductwork on the Heating/AC from inside the ducts. We had a 349 CFM leakage on the Return Ductwork and a 278 CFM leakage on the Supply Ductwork lines all before sealing. After sealing, we had a 2 CFM leakage on both the Supply and Return Ductwork. This resulted in a 30% improvement on the Return Duct Sealing and a 25% improvement on the Supply Duct Sealing.

We had a repair tech from Ron's Mechanical come out to repair the insulation on the door of our Venmar Air Exchange system. The foam insulation had separated from the door. The tech came up with a creative and effective repair that saved us from having to purchase a new door. The tech also checked all around the system for other leaks, and was very informative and helpful in describing prevention and upkeep measures that would best maintain our system. Months later, everything is still working great and "whistle" free.
Description of Work: Repair tech fixed faulty insulation on the door of our Venmar Air Exchanger. He also checked the entire unit for other possible leaks.

Greg dropped by to evaluate my needs (including the Manual-J evaluation) and promptly provided me with several bids at the end of the day. VERY pleased by his walk-through of the house as he (and two other bidders) did notice a few issues not surfaced by plumbing work done 2 years ago. Greg's bid was price competitive and in the end, I did select another bidder. Nonetheless, I rate Ron's Mechanical highly for their participation and delivery of the replacement bid cost.

It was fixed quickly. It was during the first big heat wave so everyone was calling and they were out within 2 days. I had used them before 20 years ago and it was the same person that I had interacted with then.
Description of Work: When we turned on our air conditioner after the first heat of the season it didn't come on. The company that we had been using was rude when we called. I called Ron's after a recommendation from a friend and remembering that I had used them for my office 20 years ago. Ron's came out and saw that a mouse had built a nest and used our wiring insulation for bedding.

Their entire staff, from repairman to sales staff to installation crew to office personnel, was professional, knowledgeable, and very personable. There was always a sense of pride and individual commitment, which gave the impression that this was a family-type operation that knew its business. One area of uncertainty for us was the optimal unit size for our home. That was a question that received varying answers from different companies. Ron's staff was able to provide very specific reasons for their recommendation and, while it is impossible to say for sure what the result would have been with a different size, I do know that the performance of this unit so far in all aspects has been excellent. Finally, there were never any high pressure sales tactics utilized, which for me is always a positive factor.
Description of Work: When our central air conditioning failed (stopped running altogether), we called Ron's Mechanical because we'd had a good experience with their repair work in the past. (Our A/C was almost 30 years old). One of their service personnel came to our home, and after inspection advised me that both the condenser and the coils were shot. He spent a considerable amount of time with me explaining the problems and giving his recommendations as to the options available to us. We then obtained bids, including one from Ron's. A sales person came to our home, showed us various models, and wrote up estimates for a couple models we were considering. Another one answered a couple follow-up questions via telephone. We decided to go with one of their bids, partially because of the product/price and partially because of our favorable past repair experience. The new unit was ordered, received within several days, and installed the following day. So far, the new unit has performed exceptionally well, without any glitches, and we're very happy with it.

Quick response to email request for estimate. Willing to work around our schedule for the estimate and installation. Great salesperson that did not try to oversell something that we did not need. Installation crew was very quick with their installation of the AC and furnace, about 5 hours and they did not stop for lunch. They could have cleaned up a little better, but that is my only complaint and it does not outweigh the reasonable cost and great customer service. Their electrician came out, sub-contracted electrician arrived about an hour after they left to do a final hook-up. They also did a great job. Ron's came out a couple of days later to re-check some of the equipment and was very professional again. They said they would come back when it's actually warm outside to check the load on the AC unit when it is running. I'm very happy with the company overall.

Everyone involved (initial service, furnace sales, furnace installation, and electrical installation) was polite and showed up on time (exactly). There were no excuses and no problems. It was a very smooth experience and as pleasant as losing your furnace in February could be.
Description of Work: Our furnace stopped working. They bumped us up on their priority list, determined that the old furnace was dead, and loaned us portable heaters (free) to tide us over. They were able to get us a new furnace on warranty replacement so that we had to pay only labor charges. We had our new furnace installed and running 2 days after my first call, and it was completely installed on the third day. Everyone showed up when they said they would, to the minute. It was almost uncanny. They're not cheap, but none of the heating/AC services seem to be. Our only real complaint was that the exhaust outlet they installed is kind of unattractive. I would certainly use them again.
