The contractor Tor offered to refund me since he doesn't remove ice but never did after emailing him twice (no response either). I also emailed Angies' List to ask for refund - no response either! I will file a complaint to BBB for both firms.

Thor was very professional and did a great job.

Thor did what he said he would do-- used steam to remove portions of ice dams on one side of our roof where water was leaking into our home. I know His rate was standard for what was being charged in Boston during This crazy winter. I know that from having called multiple contractors/roofers. He returned my call quite promptly and spoke with me at length About my situation and answered all my questions about ice dams before I even Decided to hire him. Glad I did. He was on time, took photos to show me what He planned to do to get my ok before starting the work and then showed me the pics of The completed work to make sure I was satisfied. He was quite personable And pleasant and a true professional. He was kind enough to offer To speak with the insurance adjuster as we were having some difficulty Getting coverage for the ice dam removal - something many ins companies Are covering this year in our area due to the unprecedented weather. I'd recommend him!

This charge was from Angies list for 299.00 I need a refund no services ever provided by contractor

They sent me an email indicating that they were no longer removing ice dams as part of the deal, which was the entire reason why I bought the deal.

I spoke to them via email on the 22nd concerning BigDeal #1791229 which was for snow and ice removal. They informed me that they were not able to do the ice removal portion of the deal and that they would be able to do the snow removal. Since Feb 22nd I have not heard from them although I have reached out to them since then letting them know that I wanted the snow removal done even though the ice could not be removed. I also left my cell phone number as an alternate contact method. And still have not heard from them

Thor is an experienced contractor from Minnesota. He drove down to Boston just for the record snow season we had. He brought his steam machine to my house. I purchase a big deal which stated 4 hours of snow removal. He scheduled me after a few days and we discussed the option of using steam on my ice dam. The use of his machine is extra at $500 per hour, but the snow removal is free of charge. We stopped at two hours, since I didn't want to pay more. My roof is partially done, but enough so that it would leak again. His advice is sound. He really knows his craft. He does all the work himself. A very courteous super friendly pro that does what he promises.

They didn't show and they didn't contact me after a week. I called and emailed and neither were returned.

I didnt use this deal because they advised me that they dont remove ice dams. They were wonderful to deal it and the communications were good.

I did not end up using this deal because my roof is clogged with ice and they do not do that kind of work.

The service provider never contacted me after a big deal purchase.

We asked Thor to come out and help us with our Dish that was covered with snow. Not only did he help with that he also cleared our roof. He has done this three other times. We would highly recommend Thor and his group. Very professional and courteous. HE'S GREAT and so is his crew!

Fast communication even though he was super busy (everyone wanted ice dam removal at this time). Good service, we got what he said he'd do.

I had an significant ice dam with tiny watermark inside house. Originally called Thor and discussed steam removal. However, since it was in a difficult spot above a flat roof (risky to have all the melt/water go onto the flat roof potentially causing another leakage problem there), we re-evaluated and instead Thor and his two guys meticulously shoveled the roof...allowing the sun to melt the ice dam. This did the trick. He only charged me half the minimum charge since they ended up not steaming. Pleasure to deal with. Patient, collaborative problem-solving. Very sharp; knows his trade. I also believe he was able to come the same day I called or next day; very responsive. Only regret is that when I called again several months later for another potential job; I never got a call back. I know he takes his own calls (at least at that time), so he may be tough to get a hold of sometimes.

It went great. Thor is an amazing person to deal with. He is both friendly and professional. He went the extra mile in looking out for any problems. He worked extremely well with my insurance adjuster. So much so, that he is now on the Travelers recommended list of roofers. He also did some additional work that I requested. All of the crew people that worked for him were also professional and easy to work with throughout the project. He even fixed a brick problem on the corner of the house! His price was reasonable and the work excellent. I recommend him for an Outstanding award in the Roofers category. Bob in Bloomington

They were very friendly and professional and offered advise on someone that could provide more information around the insulation needed on the roof to help prevent ice build up on my roof.

We noticed some leaking around an upstairs skylight and also from the roof into the attic of my elderly mother's circa 1909 home in South Minneapolis (Lakes District). As I live out of state, I needed to find a reputable contractor to remove the ice dams. I relied on Angie's List and the positive comments and fair prices charged by Thor Anderson Contracting. We contacted Mr. Anderson early in the week of March 2nd to describe the problem. Despite being the "high season" for ice dam calls, Mr. Anderson was able to fit us into his schedule for Saturday, March 8th, about 3-4 days later. He explained that he and his crew would do all of the work. He also explained that he normally does not work on "tall, steep houses." But knowing our situation, he made an exception. Also, there was an unexpected opening in his schedule and he was actually able to come over and perform the work a day earlier, which prevented more leaking. Mr. Anderson explained that there is a two-hour minimum service on ice dam removal, at a rate of $400/hour for our type of home. He stated that he would assess the situation once on the roof and let us know of any recommended additional time that might be needed to correct the problems. He and his crew arrived with large extension ladders and proceeded to shovel all of the snow off of the roof. After that, they took photos of the ice buildup and showed these to my mother. They recommended an additional hour of work to use steam to remove ice in certain areas of the roof most in need of help, and to create drainage channels to make it easier for the melting ice to run off the roof and avoid any further leaking. It was explained that this work could be done for one additional hour of effort, as compared to taking several additional hours to steam-remove all of the ice from the roof, which would be significantly more costly but not necessary in terms of solving the problem. They quoted $350 for doing the remaining hour of work. The work was completed in the allotted time. The workers were very neat and careful walking around and working on the roof. They noticed some apparent hail damage and were kind enough to notify us about this for a possible insurance claim. Mr. Anderson was very personable, generous with his advice, and professional in his conduct. He was punctual and extremely accommodating to my elderly mother's needs. Although the cost of ice dam removal isn't inexpensive, we felt that Mr. Anderson provided good options and provided a way for us to get the problem solved effectively involving the least amount time and cost (while not sacrificing the quality of the end-result). We appreciated that. We would definitely use Mr. Anderson again for treating ice dams, and we would also consider him for other types of contracting work in the future

I called Thor and got his voicemail, which instructed me to text him with my request. Thor got back to me the next day with the details of the service and cost. All the ice dam contractors are getting slammed with requests now and we didn't have an emergency, so a next day response was not too bad. Thor was able to schedule me in for two days later. We talked over the phone so I could make sure specific spots of concern were handled. He did a great job removing large portions of the ice dams around our roof, clearing out the downspouts so melting snow would have a place to go, and removing snow from the middle of the roof down. Thor suggested two hours of work, but could do more if desired. His guidance seemed like a good balance between getting our roof in good shape and not running the cost too high.

Thor does his own work with a team, so he was a busy guy that week. He still got back to me and was able to get me worked in. Got the snow cleared off the roof in the right places. Fast work and was even able to work after dark. I would recommend him to anyone. My wife was happy to keep me off of the roof.

Thor called back that night after I left him an email and text. Told him the situation and we determined a time for him to come out. He was on time and finished up in a timely manner. Also made sure all the ice chunks were removed from directly under the gutters and where people walk on our deck. He definitely knows what he is doing and suggested only removal of the snow next time will really help. Thus another winter like this one and we will call Thor again only sooner.
