+ -1 moreThey were able to come the same day to open the drain. They were very professional and courteous. He was able to tell that the sewer main was failing in two places by the way the knife had polished on the snake he was using. There were two bad spots in the main line 2 ft. out and about 70-75 ft. out from the house. He opened the drain and said it would probably fail again soon and that we should get a camera down the pipe to see what was happening in those bad spots. His company didn't have a camera, but, he recommended a company that could be of help. We contacted this company and they used a camera and confirmed what Midway told us was wrong.
Description of Work: Cleaned main sewer after main sewer stopped draining.

+ -1 moreIt went well over all. That's why we called them back when we had a problem again. We prefer to use a company from our own city when possible.They showed up on time, explained the possible problem as well as what we would have to do if they couldn't solve it: get another company to dig up the basement and re-do the sewer line to the street. We were very glad that they were able to solve the problem without us having to break up the basement to re-do the sewer line. I gave them good grades in every area. One never plans for these problems, so the expense always takes you by surprise and you wish it was cheaper, but I knew from Angie's list that the price quoted was pretty much what we could expect to pay from any company.
Description of Work: We used this company twice. Once the day after Thanksgiving 2007, and a few months later. They were very responsive, very clear in advance as to what the costs would be, and explained what the problem might be and what they would try to do to solve it. First the gentleman checked different things to figure out where the problem was that was backing up our drain. Then he used a long "snake type" machine that could cut through roots and went from our basement drain toward the street. Took out a lot of roots and also a couple of plastic bags that we don't know how they had ended up in there. The second time he came, a few moths later, more roots had grown. Our sewer worked very well after all that, but they explained that the roots can grow again and cause problems in the future.

+ -1 moreI called to have my toilet snaked. The woman on the phone was very curt and told me the cost was $141/hr, including traveling expenses. Since the business is near my house, I figured that traveling cost would be low and that the job would only take a few minutes. The man snaked the toilet and told me the cost was $141. I almost had a heart attack. Since I was paying for his time anyway, I asked the man to fix the knob on the toilet. He was incapable of doing so. Since the woman did not tell me that $141 was the minimum, I feel that this company misled me. Her curt and abrupt tone discouraged me from asking questions. Had I known what this would cost me, I would have declined. I could have bought a new toilet for this price. I called to express my concerns. She did not offer to discount the job or to make amends for misleading me. I have never been so angry with a company.

+ -1 moreFrom the time we called the company until the completion of the work we were treated courteously and promptly. I had been told that they would call when the worker was on his way to our home - the call came sooner that I had anticipated and he arrived just a few minutes later. Earlier, we had also called another company Ron the Sewer Rat, had to leave a message and did not get a call back.
Description of Work: Cory discussed options as to what the problem might be and how to correct it. He brought in equipment and opened the blocked sewer line which involved removing some roots. He had us fill a bath tub and then release the water to check whether there was any further obstruction - there was none. He also tested the line by tapping a manhole cover in the street, telling us that if the sound came through clearly, the line was open.... we heard the taps clearly. He removed the equipment and cleaned up the area where he had been working.

When I called, someone answered the phone, and I was able to schedule my appointment for the next day (they could have scheduled me for the same day, but my own schedule wouldn't allow it). Now my kitchen drain drains properly.

+ -1 moreIt went wonderful. I called on Saturday night and asked that they not come until Monday morning. He came pretty early on Monday. (See above.)
Description of Work: Our basement drain was backing up when we used the laundry sink, the washer, the shower, the bathroom, etc. Over a period of 2 days we poured 6 bottles of different products (Drano, Liquid Plumber, The Works) down that drain to try to clear it, and we also tried to use an auger, but nothing helped. A staff person at Menard's (I love Menard's staff 'cause they are always so helpful in explaining things!) suggested we try a drain cleaner service because it sounded to him like we had a problem with the sewer and a regular plumber would subcontract that type of work out, and therefore we might have to pay more. I looked through Angie's List and found Midway Sewer Service. They were very clear over the phone about what the cost would be if it was the sewer versus a pipe, and they charged me right as what was explained. The gentleman did a wonderful job. He got roots out and a small plastic bag that were plugging up the pipe. He cleaned up after himself, and he was very pleasant.

They could schedule me promptly the next morning, and the guy came within the time frame they scheduled. He was nice and, more importantly, performed the work efficiently. We had tried to clear out the drain with our own mechanical snake, so we appreciated that he could do it where we failed.

+ -1 moreMy toilet was occasionally (about every third flush) clearing out slowly when flushed. The woman on the phone indicated that since the problem was not constant, they probably wouldn't be able to solve it very quickly. All I wanted was a preventative snaking. She recommended that I wait until the problem is more serious to have someone come out. I didn't see this as a good option, who wants to have toilet trouble when it could be prevented?

+ -1 moreOur main drain was backing up into our basement. Midway Sewer unclogged the drain (removing several tree limbs and debris) and unclogged a backed up laundry tub as well. After unclogging the main drain, he made sure to test the drain to make sure it was completely functional. He and his helper were knowledgable and efficient. We called the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, and the technician was a bit terse with us over the phone and in person. When presenting the bill, he apologized for the terseness and did not charge us for the laundry sink.

But when the day came, they called and a worker came over within 40 minutes. He was pleasant and did the work quickly, also cutting about an inch off a pipe that he said had been installed wrong. Gave suggestions for keeping the drain clear and for other access issues (we have a difficult basement). I was pleased with his work and would call them again.

Not like before, but for the 35 or so minutes he put into the work we were expecting more. We immediately called our standard sewer business, whom we have used 4 times in the past, but they said we would have to wait until Monday. It was going to be one of the hottest weekends of the year, so my husband decided to check Angie's' List for another company. With great reviews on Angie's List, and close to our neighborhood, he called Midway Sewer, who also wanted to know if it could wait until Monday. We said no, that we were concerned with heat, smell, disease etc. He came right away and charged us his weekend fee, for which he apologized. We simply were thrilled to have the work done fast, professionally, and it turned out at half the cost of our previous service calls. Midway Sewer definitely earned our praise and our business in the years to come. THANK YOU!
