Description of Work: KMS designed a kitchen plan. They were very responsive to our requests and were able to incorporate what we needed in a small space. We have not yet committed to the project as we're getting bids and design ideas from a few contractors.

It went fine, they showed up on time each day. If there were delays we were warned and informed on the expected time.
Description of Work: When we requested a review and an estimate. They went well over during the review, setting up just what we required in a very professional. They gave us a 3 week contruction time but warned us it might go over,\. It was completed in weeks and a day. One of owners did much of the work but they also had specialist when needed for electrical counter top work and plumbing. They were all pleasant to work with.

I definitely feel it was worth the $49 to finally learn exactly how much it would have cost to remodel my kitchen.
Description of Work: I own a very small home (924 sq ft) and was hoping to take down a wall between the kitchen and dining room to have one big up-dated "eat-in" kitchen. A KMS contractor came out to the house and let me explain what I had in mind and then took detailed measurements of the two rooms. Before he left, we booked an appointment for me to come to their business and sit down with a designer. The designer had already entered into his computer my dream kitchen from the measurements the contractor had taken and from the notes concerning the placement of appliances and such. The designer and I spent at least an hour reviewing various options of cabinets and counter tops which he was then was able to add to the computer image. When we finished we had a 3D image of my dream kitchen which I was given printouts of. The designer first gave me a "rough estimate" of the cost to achieve my vision and asked me to come back for a follow-up appointment at which he would give me a detailed, line item estimate of the entire construction cost. To be honest, I knew I couldn't afford my dream kitchen so I never made the follow-up appointment.

The sales rep was very professional, prompt, and friendly. He was thorough during the appt. in doing measurements for the work I wanted done. The only problem is it's been 2 weeks and I haven't heard a word back from them. I was hoping to hear something in this time frame...at least a follow up email that they are still working on the plans but nothing. I still hope to get the plans but highly unlikely I'll use them for the services now simply based on the lack of follow through. I really did like the sales rep though....I'm just disappointed in the lack of follow up customer service. I would like to get my design plans at the very least and will probably just buy my cabinets at a big box retailer and have my handyman install at this point.
Description of Work: Supposed to be a full kitchen design with plans included. Haven't heard back from them since our appt. however.

Customer would not make an appt. at time of measure due to day care in home, we left it with the customer contacting us at her earliest convenience. Our normal time between measure and design appt. is 7 to 10 business days. We contacted customer via email 12-3 to schedule a design appt. and customer said she would come in on 12-14, but did not show. The next we heard was the report on angie,s list. I think customers expectations of timing were different than what is normal in industry.

Great experience. A consultant come to our home and took measurement. Took about 45 minutes. In less than a week the designer had made us new Kitchen. We met with the designer once to go over option and make changes and then about a week later met with the designer again to go over line by line pricing for the job.

The came out, talked with us on what we were looking for, what type of things we liked and performed all appropriate measurements. Very professional. Later we met at their design studio for a 3D walk through of plan. During discussion changes were made real time. Again very professional (and fun) experience. We love the plan and the quoted price. We plan to have this company perform the work when budget allows.

We didn't know much about how to design our kitchen, so KMS helped us from square one. Rob came to the house and took pictures and measured, then we went to their office and we were able to design our kitchen based off of our measurements and what we wanted or needed. Nancy worked with us using a computer program to design and model our kitchen. It was beautiful even on the computer program. We had decided to do the majority of the tear out, disposal and install ourselves. Nancy worked with us to itemize each part of the remodel and were able to do a lot of it. Other contractors may not have been as flexible, but KMS was willing to work with us in whatever way we needed them. They were patient and understanding throughout the decision making process. Every electrician and installer we had that came to the house and worked with us, did an excellent job. They all took pride in their exceptional workmanship. We only had one hiccup in our remodel. When the moving company came to drop off the cabinets, then ended up breaking our garage door. After a lot of going back and forth with the moving company, they refused to pay for ti. KMS came through and covered the cost of the garage door repair. KMS employs honest, personable, hardworking people who are easy to work with. As this was our first remodel, we ended up having a wonderful experience with this company. We love our new kitchen. We will definitely use KMS again on future projects and we would recommend them to anyone.

Our newly remodeled kitchen by Kitchens Made Simple (KMS), was a renovation that turned our 1980's kitchen into a beautiful 21st Century Great Room. Our vision for the remodel became a reality with the expertise and the craftsmanship of all the professionals we came in contact with through KMS. We solicited bids from 5 contractors, and narrowed our choices to two contractors. Our final selection was based on perceived overall value, ability to deliver within the scope of the project (no change orders), and how engaging they were from the start; KMS was the top choice in this regard. After the completion of the project, we believe KMS did deliver the best overall value (price, quality, professionalism) and we are extremely satisfied with the end result. The designer (Pam) was creative, working with our vision, was engaging from the start, provided multiple solutions at various price points, and was thoughtful in her style, as well as the contractors, who skillfully took those designs and made this wonderful space that we enjoy today; from what was a kitchen, dining room, and living room into one Great Room. The project involved the removal of walls, ceiling modifications, engineered drawings, and structural considerations, so it was not a simple replacement and upgrade project. Everyone involved, whether KMS employees or the few sub-contractors they utilized, were very skilled and delivered excellent results. KMS made it easy to make accommodations to perform any of the work ourselves. Considering our busy schedules, we drafted the contract to have all the work performed by KMS, but agreed on multiple credits, should we decide to perform some of the work ourselves, which we did to some degree. Of the few project challenges that did arise, they worked with us to provide remedies and/or mitigation, and all of these challenges were overcome to our satisfaction. Overall, KMS and their employees were a great group to work with, delivered excellent results, and we highly recommend their services. This posting comes 10 months after the project was completed, so it may be more relevant, as we have had time to reflect, having lived in the new space for awhile, and are better able to assess the overall utilization of the space and the value KMS provided. To that end, we couldn't be happier or more satisfied with the results and value, and continue to enjoy the transformation this has made in our daily lives.

The designer's service was good. The contractor's service was good but they did make one substantial mistake that could not be fixed. They did give us a couple hundred dollars off the final price to make up for the error. The designer's office staff did not communicate well with the contractor.

For many years, the small galley kitchen in our 60-yr-old home has needed updating to replace cabinets that were in poor condition. In spite of our space restrictions as well as the limited budget we had set, designer Pam worked diligently with us to select cabinets, etc., that suited our needs. Her experience and creative ideas explored every option for best use of space. Doug's project management and carpentry crew were a pleasure to work with. Their expertise and attention to detail were evident, especially as several problem areas were discovered when old cabinetry was removed, and repairs needed to be made before new cabinets could be installed. The final result is a kitchen that is more beautiful than I could have imagined in our home. Several months after the project was finished, I called Rob to look at a couple of potential problems that arose, and was impressed that he responded immediately in each case, came out the same day and resolved the issue to my satisfaction in such a timely manner -- a great testimonial to their professionalism and integrity! I am especially pleased that we selected KMS to do the job from beginning to end, and would recommend them to others without hesitation!

They had provided the cabinets that are in our house to the person who had refurbished the house. We wanted to add some cabinet space and so we went there. The designer was really nice and helpful. For some reason we wanted to pick up the cabinet and have somebody else install it. Originally they were fine with it. But they called later and said that they wouldn’t allow us to pick up the cabinets and that they would have someone deliver that. They said that they would charge $200 for that. I had problems with that and didn’t really appreciate that. They just stuck to that and we didn’t use them. They seemed to be very good with the design aspect. You need to be careful with what they are charging and why they are charging for every aspect of the quote.

I have just hired them to remodel my kitchen. They are yet to do the work. They have been great so far. They have ordered the materials. It will take another 3-4 weeks for the materials to come in. They came out on time to do the measurements. They came back to offer some suggestions that they had to make the work look smoother. So far, I have been happy with them. They even came out for a second measurement. I had seen their advertisement in the paper and when I had researched, they had good recommendations. I had also met with them and had checked out their license information and reputation. When they came out to do the quote, they were congenial and informative. I will use them in the future.

I spent $150 on the job. The designer was really flexible. Pam was great. She took my input and did several different design augmentations for me. They sent somebody to measure the space. They took the measurements back in. Pam basically put all the measurements in through a program. She gave me 3-4 different options. I reviewed all of them. I will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used KMS Associates DBA Kitchens Made Simple them to do a measure and a design for a kitchen, four months ago.
The group at KMS were GREAT to work with right from the start! They came out and did an assessment of the existing kitchen, took measurements and gave us a ball park $ number. The design person that we worked with was wonderful to work with and was very helpful in explaining the process, decisions that needed to be made, etc... Once we made all the necessary decisions on cabinets, flooring, countertops, etc...they got started right away. They worked quickly, but professionally, understanding that people do not want to wash their dishes in their bathroom since for months! They also helped us work within our budget as best they could. From demo to finish, the project took 5-6 weeks. Ultimately, they did an excellent job and were very flexible working with us on change-orders. We are very pleased with our new kitchen and would highly recommend Kitchens Made Simple to anyone considering a kitchen remodel.
Description of Work: We had KMS completely remodel our small south Mpls kitchen. Complete demo, installation of cabinets, flooring, countertops, existing & new appliances, lighting, all necessary plumbing and electrical changes, etc...

I they listened to our ideas and fit them into the kitchen design. Because of the home layout, extra structural support was needed. Our kitchen is now large enough and looks great. We appreciated the attention to detail from Rob, he did a nice job. There were several times when he was pulled from the job to go elsewhere, so we thought it took a little longer than it should have. I would recommend them to others.

This was a big job for us and even though it may not have been the biggest job for KMS we were treated as if it was. When they said they would be there they were. When an order was miss-sent there were no arguments only a quick request for the correct items to be ordered and shipped to us for installation. They always cleaned up, they picked up both in the kitchen and in the garage where we staged may pieces prior to installation. I have never gone through this before and it was for all that took place a painless event. In a heartbeat I would recommend this firm to anyone, they care about their customers and they do very professional work. Thanks.
Description of Work: We visited KMS for assistance in re-doing our kitchen. After 32 years we needed to do something. Pam and Doug and the entire crew at KMS were top-shelf! We engaged KMS for the cabinets, counter top, sink, electrical work, assistance with the re-do on the ceiling after I removed the soffett. We took care of the new floor and the wall preparation.
The bulk of the project took about 8 weeks, as we expected, and it went very well. Rob, Doug and Charles were all good guys to work with. I would say the same without a doubt for the subcontractors that they brought in to do the drywall hanging, taping/mudding and floor refinishing. Those guys were all great too. They explained a lot of things to me as we went along, answered alot of my silly questions, and were very good at explaining the unexpected problems and offering options. Communication was good with everyone. Nancy was a familiar and welcome voice on the phone as we had to make changes and modify schedules sometimes. She was great during the planning and design stage too. She suggested a few things that we didn't even think of and was very open to the ideas we had for those things that we did think of. Considering all the work that was done, and the quality of the job, I feel that we got more than we paid for from KMS.
Description of Work: We decided to gut and completely remodel our kitchen. KMS gave us some great design ideas, and ended up doing alot of work in the end. Most of it was planned, but being that we have a 105 year-old-house (with a kitchen that wasn't updated in 40 years or so), we did encounter a few unexpected things that needed to be changed and added to the cost, but we kind of expected that too. In brief, here is what KMS did: - demolished and stripped the whole room - installed all new cabinets and granite countertops, - stripped and refinished the floor down to the original maple, - installed all new appliances, - ran new electrical lines - ran new plumbing lines and installed new sink and dishwasher - re-routed a heating duct - replaced an old double hung window with a new casement window - replaced the back door of the house into the kitchen - rebuilt our pantry closet with a new wall and pocket door - installed under-cabinet lights and a new ceiling fan/light

They required $100 fee for measuring countertops which was to be deducted if they did the work. (I didn't know at the time that other companies gave free estimates). After we spent an hour with their designer/estimator we waited to get the cost of the Corian we had selected. When no one called, I called the company 4 times and was told each time that the cost had not come in yet. No one ever called us back. Finally, I sent a letter to Mr. Barto directly, saying that since they were not interested in doing this work I would appreciate it if they refunded my $100. I understood that it was to be applied to the work, but I didn't reject them, they rejected (ignored) us. It has been 4 weeks since I sent the letter, so I am apparently not getting a refund -- nor an explanation.

This incident was unfortunate and not a typical outcome for us at Kitchens made simple. The product that this customer was interested in was a new product for us and we really were having trouble getting the prices that she needed. When we received her letter requesting the return of her measure fee we were happy to return it. However, somehow this never was sent by our accounting Dept. and until we checked Angie's list recently, we were unaware of the oversight. Since then we have sent this customer their $100.00 as well as a gift certificate to demonstrate our sincere regret that this happened. Our company remodeled over 30 complete kitchens last year and can provide many customer references that demonstrate the care and attention to detail we strive to provide. This incident is an isolated one, but we realize as a company it's not so much that you make mistakes, it's the character you demonstrate and the way that you resolve problems that decides your reputation.

I submitted a report before on my bad experiences with their sales team. We fired them from the flooring job because of a series of missteps. The granite countertop install actually went pretty well. John came to take out the old countertop, and fixed a couple of small things that came apart from the cabinet. He was very friendly and along with another John, brought in the new countertops without damaging anything. He was able to get the job done within about 4 hours all by himself after getting help with carrying the granite inside. He did a nice job. Can't say that much positive about the rest of the experience, however.

We purchased the right to the name "Kitchens made simple" and opened a store in Roseville MN in January, 2009. The new owners are completely different from the former owners. We are a new company with no relationship or legal responsibility related to the actions of the past ownership. We have done service work for the customers of the past company (usually at no charge) even though it was not our responsibility. One of our customers saw a review of the old Kitchens made simple on Angie's list, called us about it, and after hearing that we are a new company and after checking out our many enthusiastic references, bought a kitchen from us and were very happy.

We needed to get new countertops and floors done in a hurry. The price appeared reasonable and they said they could do it in 2-3 weeks. Lori, one of the designers, provided our estimate. She made a number of math mistakes in processing the final invoice - and even after we paid, the lead designer found a couple of additional mistakes that Lori had made - and had not resolved with me, which were going to add another $575 to the floor installation and $375 to the countertop installation. They told me that someone would call me to schedule installation, within a couple of days. He still hasn't called and it's been 10 days - and I left him a message on his cell phone even. Rob opened the box for the sink we brought in and said it wasn't an under mount sink and we'd have to bring a new one in. Baffled, I checked on line, called them back to check again and they realized they were wrong. RIDICULOUS! We canceled the floor installation. I hope the countertop install goes better.
Description of Work: No work actually done - we planned on having them install new laminate flooring in the kitchen. After several missteps, we bailed out on the flooring and are still hoping and praying that the granite countertop installation goes okay.

Went to their showroom, paid $100 to have a noninstaller come out & estimate cost of project. Once we decided to have them do the work things went downhill from there. Salesperson promised actual installer would come out within 1 week. Four weeks later I called, finally getting a response from Rob Barta that he would be out to do measurements-took extensive measurements after I objected to our old countertops being removed WITHOUT the promise of a quick turnaround for our new counters. Since the old counters stayed, the job couldnt be as accurate-he was correct on that. Counters installed 3 weeks later. Security system pulled from wall, but not put back. Poor fit in several spots. We also paid them to install new diswasher while counters out-installed but leaked. Came back several days later and fixed leak but did not finish anchoring to granite. Process started beginning of Feb-head installer came out in May to inspect work. Despite a decent looking final product-process was horrible.
Description of Work: Granite countertops in kitchen. Also purchased wood flooring from company and had a different installer perform the install

We have done service work for the customers of the past company (usually at no charge) even though it was not our responsiblity. One of our customers saw a review of the old Kitchens made simple on Angies list, called us about it, and after hearing that we are a new company and after checking out our many enthusiastic references, bought a kitchen from us and were very happy.
